We were looking for options we hadn't tried for breakfast. Read a few reviews and called to see if they had dining tables or were only take out. A man's voice brusquely said "both." I looked at the menu and saw typical options and thought most places can handle the basics. Someone said the biscuits were really exceptional. We walked in to a very narrow area with bicycles and tables crunched together. We were the only dine-ins so no biggie. Wasn't sure if the table was clean so I used my own sanitizer while hubby ordered. He ordered an omelette and a biscuit. Omelette doesn't look like an omelette and there were more potatoes like the ones they serve on the side in the "omelette" with the eggs well done. More of a well done scramble with mushroom stems as the mushrooms. Hubby liked the simplicity of the potatoes. The sausage in the eggs was tasty which bodes well for the deli aspect. My greater concern is for the cleanliness of things. My girlfriend and I stopped in here for a quick lunch. They have many options- we ordered the Steak and Cheese Sub and Chicken Shawarma on Pita. They were both good, although I'd say the Chicken Shawarma was a bit too strong with the garlic. Also, we noticed white strands of some kind of fiber in both of our sandwiches (could've been hair, we weren't exactly sure), so that was a bit unpleasant. Stopped by here for lunch- my boyfriend ordered the steak and cheese sub, and I ordered the chicken shawarma on pita. We also got a side of fries. No issues with ordering, and we got our food with not too long of a wait. However each one of our sandwiches had a white fiber in it. (At first we thought it was a hair but it seemed more like part of a hairnet or something, yet it was 3in long). I didn't get a picture because I was grossed out and immediately took it out. I visited Old Town Deli for lunch recently and enjoyed it! I ordered the Italian sausage sub with onions, peppers, and cheese and thought it was a great portion for the price. Most of the subs and other sandwiches here are under $10. Great value for lunch to go. During the pandemic, I've been frequenting delis more often when eating out, as they're quick and easy. My sub was ready in under 10 minutes. They do have seating inside, for those inclined/comfortable to sit inside at a restaurant. Was it the best deli sandwich I've ever had? No. But it was decent and definitely worth a visit, especially given its convenient location on Washington Blvd (right off of King Street). read more

I was working in the neighborhood and once I finished I had a taste for a deli sandwich. Checked the Yelp app and saw that they had one of my favorites, hot pastrami and cheese. Thought I'd give it a shot since the price was so reasonable. Omg! This has to be the best pastrami and provolone I can ever recall having since the old Capitol Carryout decades ago! I thought I'd be getting as a sub but it was piled on to what I believe was marble rye. I don't care for a lot on my pastrami. Just mustard, provolone and grilled onions and it was absolutely delicious. I foresee many trips across the Wilson Bridge from my home in Fort Washington to enjoy other items on the menu. Despite this place apparently being the go-to lunch spot. No one was inside, and only a few sitting on the patio. Impressive sandwich, gyro, and everything in between menu. They also had a large selection of refrigerated / prepared items, soda fountain, and bottled drinks. Actually... This was somewhat overwhelming. I opted for a small Caesar salad add chicken. Came out to around $7. Somewhat pricey for the small salad... But I did add protein I guess. When they gave me my salad it was a Greek salad. If I hadn't have paid $7 for this tiny thing I probably would've let it go. But I decided to voice my misorder. They were very kind and made me another salad free of charge. However, I was the only one ordering at the time. There were at least 5 employees lingering around. None of them were particularly nice or inviting. They actually were kinda rude to me as a paying customer. I felt like I needed to get in and get out. Terrible experience with delivery. Food was delivered more than 30 minutes after promised and it was cold. Old Town Deli- or "OTD" as their regulars affectionately refer to it -- is a hole in the wall, family owned sandwich shop. It's not very pretty, it's set up like an old subway..but the food is good! I've ordered the Gyro and the Steak and Cheese and both came out with a nice hefty portion and lots of fries! I wouldn't come here during lunch hour if you don't already know what to order, since everyone is working at a fast pace and don't seem to enjoy being bothered with silly menu questions. The restaurant is tiny and not much to look at, but it gathers a crowd around lunch time because so many people who work in Old Town love the OTD. It also closes early-- don't count on it for supper. While they do sell other foods, focus on the eastern Mediterranean foods such as the Sampler Salad, Athenian Chicken, gyros, tabbouleh, etc. These are the things Old Town Deli does best. (Many of the bad reviews are from people who clearly ordered wrong, sorry.) I wanted the lasagna which is not offered on grub hub so he told me he would switch it out an item under r the platter special once I pay for the order call back and he would make sure I have the lasagna. On one hand, the food I routinely order (big stinky salad or Mediterranean platter) is usually really good. On the other hand, they straight up scam with their prices. The platter I get is $9. Buuuut, about 86% of the time he rings it up as $11.50. Each and every single time I call him out on it and each and every single time he says "Ohhhhh, so sorry, that was an accident! I hit the wrong button!" and then rings it up as $9. He's gambling that most people wont catch the scam. And once after using my credit card there, Bank of America, canceled my card after 'suspicious' activity. The next time you are in Old Town, skip the typical tourist stop restaurants that line the streets with their beckoning open air dining and opt for this little deli on the corner of Washington and King. When I worked in Old Town, this was a regular stop for me. Now, I only manage to get here once in a while, but I still order the same thing...the Sampler Salad - or as some regulars call it, the Stinky Salad. The deli is tiny (I don't recommend eating in) and really, really busy. It is set up cafeteria style - you walk through the line and order your food telling them what you want and you get it moments later (they are quick at this place). The owners (always present) are super friendly and nice to chat with while waiting for your order. The order to get is the Sampler (Stinky) Salad. It's comprised of: romaine, green peppers, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, crispy sumac-crusted baked pita chips (I ask for extra), and for me - chicken and feta too - all bathed in the most delicious lemon herb dressing you will ever have. You can see why it might be called 'stinky,' but I think the nickname is off - I think it should be called the 'what you'd want as your last meal on earth salad.' It's that good. read more

Probably my most frequented place for lunch in Old Town, although that has a lot to do with the fact that it's close, fast, good and healthy. My only complaint is that sometimes the chicken is a little on the dry side. Their specialty is anything with their special chicken recipe. They toss it in the sampler salad, nicknamed "stinky" because it has a lot of different and unusual spices. They also use the chicken for an awesome chicken cheese steak or a chicken parm sandwich. Still, my favorite meal is the stinky salad, which has crisped pita bits mixed in. It comes with the dressing and spices already mixed - a little vinegary and yummy. Highly recommend. I love the sampler salad!!!!! It's really the only thing I've tried here, but it's worth coming back to again...and again....and again...and again (x10 or more)! Most other people have commented on it already because it's really one of the best things ever! The salad is fresh and the dressing has a nice lemony tang to it. The pita chips are a nice addition. I always get the sample side salad with chicken and a side of rice to eat there. The rice is good for soaking in all the salad dressing. The side salad is more than enough if you get it to eat there. If you get it to go, the salad is much smaller and hence much sadder. A friend tried to ask what was in the dressing but...no dice. Oh well, I don't mind coming here just for the salad! We stopped in here during our first visit to OT. It was about 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday, and there were only a few people there. We both got gyros-meat. The meat was moist and flavorful, the tzatziki sauce was tasty and plentiful, and there was a healthy helping of feta. It was almost too much for me too finish, but hubs felt that the amount was perfect. The place is super small, so I imagine that at peak times it is best to get your food to go.
