We had a great meal and a great experience here for lunch. Our server, Olivia, was awesome. She offered us bread but we declined, knowing we would fill up on it. The iced tea was brewed and awesome. I got the catfish lunch and substituted the potato cakes for the fries. I added a side of coleslaw. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. This restaurant suffers from bad management or ownership. I have had cold food in the past on more than one occasion. The wrong order and different portions before also. So I called to complain the first time Brian Carpenter was more than helpful as owner and acting manager. Nearly a month later another problem with the wrong order at the bar. I was disrespected by the bartender and even sent messages by her. That maybe I was right and didn't need to eat there anymore. At that time the call I made went to a hang up then, and employee asking me what it was about while I was left on hold until I hung up the phone. I asked for my money back due to the wrong order and was refunded by the manager Donnie at which time while upset, desrvingly so. I stated to him I would go to any Mexican restaurant before eating there again. So now nearly 2months after all of Old Towns Grills mistakes I call to advance order a meal. The bartender puts on the phone with Brian Carpenter owner/operator and tells me not to come??? What is wrong with this place?? Old Town Grill screws up twice and I get told I was wrong. The problem is from top to bottom at the old town grill. Owner thru employee, non of them can accept responsibility for their actions. They will no doubt deny this review as that's their m.o. at OTG......whomever the other partner is I feel sorry for. McDonalds or fasting would've been a better choice. One of the worst places I've ever experienced. There were only four tables seated when walked in and there about four waitresses, a couple bartenders, a busboy, at least one manager and at least one cook. That's at least nine employees yet were completely overwhelmed by the volume of customers. We ordered fried mushrooms as an appetizer. They were undercooked and over salted. There chunky strings of fried batter that were devoid of mushrooms. The ribeye was tough and under seasoned. It had obviously sat out for a while since it was cold. There was also grey in the meat which meant it had been microwaved. My baked potato was so cold the butter spread didn't melt on it. The sand which we ordered was cold. The only decent part of the meal were the obviously store-bought fries. Unhappy waitresses eating in front of us and complains about the other staff was the topper. Where to start... We were at the table for 20 minutes before the waitress came and took our order. It was another 20 minutes until we got our one appetizer, the fried pickles. We inquired about the delay in receiving our drinks, and were told that it was the bartenders first day by herself. Mind you there was only one person at the bar. He ordered a Rum and Coke and Long Island iced tea. (very technical drinks, don't you know). The Roman coat came in a tall glass with twice a Coke and the standard shot of rum. Attached is a picture of her second attempt at the Long Island iced tea. It looks like guava juice. Now, a Long Island iced tea is almost 60% alcohol and should taste as such. her final attempt tasted nothing like it. We asked the waitress if she could try again and we heard/saw the waitress say here. Try this important another shot of vodka. Not what should've happened. And I eventually ordered a beer on tap, which was some thing she couldn't screw up. Before getting the beer, our meals arrived. My son steak was well done after he ordered it medium rare to medium and my steak was completely tasteless. Had to send my food back not once not twice not three times not four times but 5 times. The chicken and Medium rare steak came out so burned it was shocking. The spinach dip was cold the chips were burned on one side and white on the other making them so waxy that that would choke u to swallow them. Asked to speak to mgr and he said he tried the chips and they were fine.. I beg to differ. If he's paying for them then I suppose burned on one side and raw on the other could work for him. My husband and I moved here a few months ago and wanted to try this place ! We came in to a smiling happy hostess - she immediately seated us ! Our waitress who was the bartender was equally friendly and polite ! She took our order and around 15 minutes later offered us hot bread and butter while we were waiting for our meals ! I came here on a Friday with a group of friends after it was recommended to me. The menu is pretty large, with many interesting sounding dishes, but I had heard the smoked beef brisket was good, so I ordered that with onion rings and fried corn as my two sides. The brisket was pretty good, I can see why people like it. The onion rings, on the other hand, were extremely salty, almost to an inedible level. I was expecting little fried corn niblets but instead it was the whole cob just deep-fried. It was good nonetheless. I was seated quickly on a Saturday evening and the servers are friendly. There is plenty of parking. The inside is dated and the menu reminds me of Applebee's. The grilled pork bonein and fried okra are good. My mashed was lukewarm. The meal came with bread and that's good. Service was slow to begin with but got better. We started with pretzel bread and beer cheese. Good shareable. I ordered Asian salad. It was large and filled with mandarin oranges, almond slivers, cranberries and grilled chicken. Oh, and Asian noodles. I thought that meant crunchy noodles, but these were spaghetti like noodles with somE kind of dressing which was delicious. My sister ordered Club salad. Absolutely horrible... waited about a hour and a half for our food to come out. There were maybe a total of five tables. So it was not busy for a Friday night. $15 for a 7oz steak to come out over cooked. Chicken was dry and over cooked as well. Charged .25 per water! The waitress was not good at her job what so ever. No communication. Late on refills. The waitress was eager to bring out the check when we weren't even about 20% into our food!! As we were leaving a table got up and left because of the service. Found this place while staying nearby. Took into consideration that they were short-staffed and had a "now hiring" sign outside and also the fact that most restaurants are struggling for the same reasons right now. The staff were doing the best that they could and we went in expecting to wait for our food. HOWEVER, we were pleasantly surprised that we got served right away and the food was actually VERY good. I went to the OTG for lunch on a recommendation from a local. I regretted taking her advice. I order the "Gumbo" and a grilled cheese sandwich. Who would have thought that hold the tomato was slang for please givee a super dry, bland, flavorless piece of cardboard tucked between 2 buns. Horrible is an understatement. On to the chicken strips. Way overcooked with a hint of burnt coating. It was so bad even my 9 year old didn't eat. I did appreciate my perfect view of the kitchen though as I was able to see the cooks not only not wearing any type of gloves but eating food right off the line. We ordered lunch and when our food finally came, the cheese on our sandwiches weren't melted and the Au Jus sauce tasted like water, no flavor plus most of the sauce was poured out onto the bread of the sandwich and the whole bun was soggy to the point you could not pick it up to eat it. The wait is forever for food and it's not uncommon to wait in a line but see multiple empty tables. Ok, so I'm truly confused by the negative reviews. I travel all the time for work and this place is exactly what I hope to find when I get to my destination. Let's start with the food: Its consistent, good flavor and reasonably priced. As if that's not enough, the speed at which it arrives to the table is usually shocking. Kudos to the kitchen for doing a great job. Bartenders and waitresses: Wow just wow... The girls here are awesome! Friendly, personable, professional and consistently go far beyond the call of duty. What more could you ask for? As someone who bartended, waited tables and managed restaurants for 19 years I hope the owners and management appreciate how great they have it. read more
