Visiting kennebunkport.... So far all the restaurants have been great but this one is my absolute favorite so far!! We went because it had the most options for my vegetarian friend.... The shishito peppers are a sure win! It did not need the sauce that came with but it was so good I had to have some of it anyway. The quinoa and chickpea snack was incredibly flavorful and the tahini sauce was the best I've ever had.... I had the sea bass over eggplant which is one of those dishes that I will remember for a lifetime. My friend had the salad with beets because she was having chickpeas in the app..... While it was delicious there are so many more exotic choices that she should have opted for. read more

Truly loved the ambiance, festive and fun atmosphere plus the staff working the bar were all friendly, fun, lively and patient. There was a 45 minute wait but we were able to snag two seats at the bar. Actually my favorite place to sit and glad we did. The mixology happening behind the bar from one of the bartenders was incredible. She was literally on fire and did not miss a beat. The food was a mixed experience for me. We ordered the French fries based on the couple next to us being served an order and had to have them. The sauces served were great for dipping and they were willing to give us a half order. Thank you! My friend ordered the salmon and absolutely loved her meal, she cleaned the plate and then proceeded to devour the chefs special dessert. I ordered the steak with mashed potatoes but I couldn't eat it. The salt content was too much for me. I took home the entire meal and tried it again the next day. Still far too much salt for me. I even asked no extra salt be added to the meal. Some chefs are just heavy on the salt. Maybe it was just the night. I would come back possibly if in the area again and would still recommend the food based on my friends love for her meal. The portions were huge and it is such a lively and upbeat place I hope it was just a fluke. It was a great place to hang out for the night regardless of my food experience I am just one person. First time visiting Kennebunkport. This establishment was recommended by 2 locals. I arrived around 7 to a full bar and most tables occupied on a Friday night in the off season. I sat at the bar and Janae guided me through my experience. She recommended the Roasted Chioggia Beet Salad and Fried Jackfruit Dumplings which did not disappoint. I would have thought they were pork I if I didn't know otherwise. It paired well with a Sauvignon Blanc she recommended. She suggested the Campfire Cremeux for dessert that was an experience in and of itself. What impressed me beyond the food was the knowledgeable and attentive hospitality I received. read more

Went there on a Monday night of the holiday weekend, and were seated at a quiet table in the back as requested. This is a tapas place but the portions are slightly larger than tapas. We shared the beet salad and the seared lamb loin and both were delicious!!! We probably could have shared one more plate but were full enough to stop there. The prices are much too high for the portion you get. The meatballs were kind of hard. The Caesar salad needed a better dressing. The tuna tartare was very good, though, expensive for what you got. Service is wonderful. read more

We have come here every summer since 2019. The food has been exceptional as well as the service. On this visit, as always, we ordered a few small plates & then, still reasonably hungry (because those plates really were small this year) we ordered the "large" lamb plate which offered lamb 2 ways-shank & chops. What arrived was a joke. 3 tiny chops (we regularly prepare chops at home & I didn't know they could be so tiny, as well as two 1-inch cubes of lamb shank. Not even kidding. 1 cubic inch. I should have taken a picture. A single person ordering this "large plate" would have been starving. And we thought it might be big for two! Ridiculous. Next year we will not come here to eat. It's just stupid plating-nothing more. Sad. read more

One of my best meals while in Kennebunkport. We ordered a bunch of options to share. The fried corn on the cob (like elote) was so delicious. We had to order more. The falafel was alright, but wasn't as great as the other dishes. The shishito peppers were yummy as well. The chicken meatballs were perfect and so much sauce. Finally we had the watermelon burrata which was so refreshing and the watermelon was perfectly ripened! Great spot! read more

So glad that they had all the precautions in place during covid. I love that their waiter system, almost Brazilian bbq style, the waiter comes when we put a sign up. It made me feel better that we had less contact with our waiter, yet he was available immediately when we put our sign up. Cocktails were delicious. Love the ambiance, tapas menu, and wine/spirit selection. We started out with the white flatbread pizza. A great combination of mozzarella, herbs, and garlic. Followed it up with olives and burrata. The heirloom tomatoes and fresh mozzarella were very tasty. The big fail was the service. Our waiter was a nice guy but he was clearly outgunned. One waiter for 10 tables is not good. Stopped by for a late night drink on a Wednesday night. There was a lively crowd but the tables were so far apart (socially distanced I assume) that it really took away from the atmosphere. And this was outside. The first drink I ordered- pina something was yuck and I sent it back for red wine which was meh. I'm sure there are plenty of good choices...I just didn't pick them. To begin, I'm a little disappointed that you can only make reservations if you have a party of 8 or more. What If I want a date night without the wait? Luckily they called me and cleared this up--quite promptly I might add, and there was no wait when my party arrived. The place did really fill up between 7:30 and 8:00pm though. When we got there the large area in the back was reserved for a large party, and most of the tables inside only seemed to hold 4 comfortably (I was expecting 5), so we sat outside close to the fire. It was quite charming until we got eaten alive by mosquitoes. Three days later I am still tormented by the 10+ bites I got on my legs. Our server, James, was really kind and kept the fire going to prevent more bites and even brought us bug spray (unfortunately the can was broken). It also got really dark outside. There is not sufficient lighting out there to read your menus. I don't understand why there are no lights outside rather thant he one that puts the Old Vines logo on the building. The service was painstakingly slow because it appears James was running the whole joint (or perhaps they had everyone else tending to the large party), but everyone at my table seemed to be pleased with their food when it finally came. I unfortunately wasn't that impressed with my onion-fig tart, and am kicking myself for not waiting the 45 minutes to get a flatbread (it took almost that long to get my tart anyway). I really do like the drink menu. It has a wide variety of cocktails, wines, and beers. I got a passion fruit caipirinha because I love caipirinhas and had never seen this variation before. It was hardly passion-fruity and it was mostly ice, so I would not get this drink again. I will not be coming back, and the only reason I am giving this place three stars is because James was great. He had a lot on his plate, and he served everything with a smile--he's also the person who called me back about my reservation. Does he do everything there? read more

Great place today share plates and try their handcrafted cocktails. The wine list does not disappoint!

When two big Yelpers both bookmark this place for an upcoming trip to Portland, expectations are very high. Old Vines met and exceeded every expectation my boyfriend and I had during our recent trip to Kennebunkport. We came on Saturday night around 8ish, and were able to pick any table that we wanted (granted, this is not high season for the area, so keep that in mind - I'd think in the summer, that wouldn't be the case). The walls are decorated with old wine crates, there are plank wood tables, and comfortable seating (though not a lot of seating in the main area, where we sat). The bartender actually seated us, and we were immediately given menus for small plates and for wine/cocktails. The wine list has a variety - most are bottles, but they have white and red glasses available in 3 or 6 oz pours. Prices for 3 oz pours range from $5-$7 and 6 oz pours between $12-$15 (roughly). Bottles are also varied in prices (to be honest, I didn't even look at the white wine offerings because I'm a red fan, so I can't be sure on pricing for white wines). I first tried a California Pinot Noir and my boyfriend had the Zweigelt - both were smooth and delicious (and came out fast!). I then moved on to a glass of Cab, and my bf then switched to a cocktail getting one with blood orange and vodka that was delicious. Since the food is tapas style, everything comes out when ready, which was exactly what we were looking for, as we put in food orders at different times and were able to fully enjoy everything. We started with the hummus and pita, which was incredible (both of us commented that it was possibly the best homemade hummus/pita we've EVER had). We also ordered the white flatbread pizza, which was incredible - it was so delicious with arugula on top that I wish I had the stomach to eat the entire thing. Boyfriend ordered the chicken meatballs, which he said were incredible, and I also ordered the fig and onion tart, which was fantastic (despite being SO full by that point, I ate the WHOLE thing). Service throughout the meal was excellent - glasses of wine never got close to empty before our server came back to see what we'd like next, and he was attentive in checking in about food/food orders. Old Vines is a fantastic spot - we talked about how good the food/wine/service was for the rest of our night, and even into the following day. Can't wait for a return trip to revisit and drink a lot more wine! read more

Old Vines Wine Bar was a lovely little spot for an early evening drink and appetizers. The decor is great, lots of reclaimed and reused items, dim lighting made for a quaint and intimate atmosphere. There is even a fireplace outside if that's what you fancy. The cocktails all looked delicious but I landed on the Lori 75. The tartness was unexpected but once my palette acclimated, it was delicious. Unfortunately, my husband suffered the consequences of the bartender's VERY honest pour of his Chardonnay. That glass was 5 oz. MAX and you usually hope for a little padding on the portion but no luck here. We ordered the burrata and the pita with tapenade. The burrata was delicious with arugula, honey, hazelnuts, radishes and balsamic. The tapenade portion seemed small but the flavor is so intense, a little bit went a long way. Over all, we were really happy with our experience. The two apps were the perfect size to hold us over a few hours until our dinner later that night. My only issue was music. They were playing a lot of motown hits which didn't seem to jive well with the rustic, wine bar atmosphere. read more

First course: Beet salad w/roasted golden beet, black radish, coriander citrus vinaigrette, mesclun, sweetened walnuts & Mycella blue cheese, paired with 2015 Ponga Sauvignon (Marlborough, New Zealand) -perfection. Second course: brown sugar-cured Arctic char w/green olive tapenade, paired w/2013 Force of Nature Chardonnay, Rob Murray Vineyards. Wine was awesome, but I'm not a fan of the char. If I had it to do over again, I would opt for the chicken pate or the spicy tuna poke instead. Third course: oven roasted Bangs island mussels with crispy pancetta, garlic, sea salt & ghee, same wine as second course. Mussels were good but on the small side. Fourth course and star of the show: beef carpaccio w/garlic Rosemary oil, chili oil, lava salt, preserved lemon & fried caper crumbles served with little toasted baguette slices - outstanding! Served with a gorgeous vinho verde, Portugal (Broadbent) - could not possibly have been better. Dessert course: sticky toffee pudding that was OUT of this world, paired with a great espresso - what a perfect ending! Really lovely waitstaff and bartenders, super helpful & attentive, tickled to do pairings for us, and glad to have us put ourselves in their hands! This place was awesome! Went to enjoy the live music for the prelude weekend and came back for dinner. Every single staff member - from the gentleman checking IDs at the door, to the gentleman manning reservations, waitresses who provided great insight in gluten free options, to the manager James who stopped by at the end of the night to ask how our evening was, were incredibly friendly. You can tell it's a nice place to work. Lori 45 drink was awesome - highly recommend! One of the best Caesar salads I've had. The fish chowder is AWESOME. Loved this place, was looking for a nice place to eat and relax and read the reviews and decided to check it out. I'm glad we did! Service was excellent we were seated at the tail end of happy hour which we didn't even know there was one, and our waitress let us know and asked if we wanted to put our order in then for the happy hour price. I thought that was great service for her to inform us. Food and drinks were excellent. There were a variety of small plates and tapas choices to choose from and I was happy to see it wasn't all seafood. Everything we had was delicious and just the right amount. The ambiance was great outside and they had a guy playing music and he was really good. Later on they lit fires outside. Inside was nicely decorated and cozy and the bathroom was very clean. Decided to give Old Vines a try tonight. Used their online ordering. Requested 645 pick up and got a text at 615 indicating it was ready so off we go to pick it up. Ordered Noodle stir fry. It was just meh. Menu description made it sound much better than it actually was. Scant amount of veggies and flavor was just ok. Also got a flat bread which was nothing to write home about. We were starved so we ate it all. One star as we won't return. If you want a great vegetarian noodle stir fry head over to Bandaloop in Arundel it's out of this world and far superior. Lovely atmosphere and nice selection of cocktails and wine. Staff were friendly and helpful. If you are celiac, this is gluten-friendly and they have a dedicated GF fryer. The serving sizes were generous, even for small plates. I didn't give 5 stars because our filet came well done when we requested medium and if you want items perfectly timed it doesn't happen. Really enjoyed this place. Showed up at 9:40 with the kitchen closing at 10. They were out of the ceviche unfortunately, but I got the meatballs and they did not disappoint! Had a sazarec to go with it, and it was made exceptionally well. The bartender was friendly, and I was in and out in an hour with a fairly priced bill. Absolutely phenomenal service and food. Our server was so friendly and thoughtful with her recommendations. She was attentive but not intrusive, never made us feel rushed. There was one small mix up with the salad we ordered (which most restaurants make the same mistake) and she was so apologetic and the new salad came out lightning quick. We ordered the street corn, the game hen, the beet salad, the pork flautas and the vegan panna cotta. Every dish was delicious and I would recommend all of them. The drinks were tasty too. This is exactly the right spot for a nice reunion in Kennebunkport. Don't be fooled by the label "wine bar." They also make excellent cocktails (Vieux Carre for me), and have good snacks, salads, and even a house-made burrata. Plus they have a lovely patio, suffused with the smell of smoky firepits. Loved the vibe of this wine bar. We got the chicken meatballs and the shrimp & chorizo...and a bottle of wine. Both dishes were good, but they could've been a little lighter with the seasonings - it was a little overdone in that regard. The ingredients in the dishes and the way they were put together were great - they didn't need much to make them taste good. But I'd much rather have more flavor than not enough flavor. :) read more
