I was looking for a quick coffee to-go for my drive home to the Bay Area and stumbled upon Old World Coffee Lab. I love that they close at 6 PM (which is pretty late for a coffee shop). The interior is super spacious and all the tables are spread out. There are lots of live plants, giving the coffee shop an earthy feel. There are also plugs everywhere if you wanted to work in the cafe. The baristas are super friendly and helpful. I ended up ordering a simple iced latte ($5) and my boyfriend got a hot cappuccino ($4.50). The latte was DELICIOUS with just the right amount of milk. The beans were not too sour or bitter - just smooth. You can substitute oat milk for a dollar more. The scone ($4) was sweet, crumbly, and paired well with the latte. This is my go to spot when I come to Reno once a week for my VA appointment. I love the location and parking is easily accessible, well in the morning hours it is and I can't say for later in the day lol but it's right in front of the coffee shop. I go to is simple but I love it and it's a cold brew. This is how I judge coffee shops because you can taste the quality of coffee in a cold brew and it's always been my fav coffee. When you walk in to this coffee spot its a bit overwhelming because usually people turn to look who's coming inside lol. I am never, ever coming back here. I ordered an orange blossom latte with mocha added in, which I had never had before but the cashier told me was popular. I received my drink & did not like it, so I got back in line to get something else. I politely explained it wasn't my favorite, and that I would like to get something else, and that he could throw away the drink (did not want to put a full drink in the trash or act like I was trying to get a free drink). He did not show a SHRED of empathy. Didn't say he wished I liked it, didn't ask what was wrong, and most definitely did not offer to remake it for me. He looked irritated that I was PAYING for another drink. For my second drink, I got the mocha drogata. When he brought it out to me, the drink was spilling down both sides of the cup and it was lukewarm. These are $9 lattes (with dairy free milk and tax) and the standards should be much higher than this. So to the tan employee with dark hair working the register on 02/03/24 at 1pm...seriously work on your interpersonal skills. It's the bare minimum to express you want the customer to enjoy their drink. read more

You could just feel the communal vibes in here - people were so friendly and warm but also minded their own business if you're trying to get work done or read a book! The Vanilla Lavender latte was not too sweet (in a good way); I wish it had been a little lighter on the milk, heavier on the coffee, but I would just specify that the next time I'm there & inevitably order it again I knew I wanted a pastry and obliged when the barista suggested the Blueberry muffin. It was SO good, I only wish it was either a little bigger or a little less expensive... I loved that they use glass cups for people staying "for here" but also understand if you need it to go! Most recently my friend and I went here for a study day and enjoyed our drinks and the atmosphere. We stayed here for 3+ hours studying. There is only a few seats near wall outlets so stay charged up before hand. They have a frequent flyer system to earn points. The matcha iced latte is always my go to, and we tried something new this time some sort of hot cookie latte that was enjoyable. Great coffee. Awesome customer service. I visited the Midtown location instead of the Mccarran one this morning. In the area visiting friends. Importantly noted: this location is BUSY. Expect a longer wait in line. HOWEVER, I was pleasantly greeted by the same young lady who makes coffee at the other shop. To my surprise - she was equally as bubbly with taking fifty orders compared to one - being the only customer in line in my prior experiences. Her huge smile did not waver. The other workers seemed happy to be there - this made the experience of a chaotic crowd more bearable for us. Java Notes: Mocha drogato is my favorite. The chai tea latte tasted chalky as well and almost like they added a powder as well as a hint of coffee. The baristas were kind but seemed slightly irritated that we clearly didn't know their menu. Love this gem of a coffee shop! My granddaughter was in town and we had originally gone to an ice cream/dessert shop next door- but they were closed. Plan B - we popped in to Old World Coffee for a coffee and a cookie. Super friendly service, very clean and a great selection of coffees. Was walking around midtown & found this place. Was pretty empty maybe 2-3 people. The guy that was working from afar seemed super nice since he was having a whole conversation with the person in front of me but when it was my turn he didn't greet me I ordered an horchata latte and said "iced please" & he responded "either way that's all we have today ha" (their milk steamer was broken) was waiting around and saw again how he was super talkative with the next customer and he didn't even tell me my drink was ready he just placed it on the counter and when I said thank you he just ignored me. The latte was 7 dollars & I guess that's normal but I definitely feel like that place is meant for regulars ? Maybe people that live around the neighborhood because I didn't feel welcomed at all. I was running late on a Monday and stopped at my usual to realize the drive through was wrapped around the street. Pull up my phone for some ideas and duh- why didn't I think of Old World! There was parking on the side, which was nice and easy. The last time I had been here it was a small shop, right next to a tea shop. Wow has the space grown! It was pretty packed in there, glancing around I think most seats were taken. It has a great neighborhood vibe to me, and a lot of work space being utilized at this time of day. I pulled up the QR on my app, but after ordering my drink realized they had something that I wanted to switch out to so I ordered the Iced Horchata Latte with Almond Milk. Wow! Perfection. It tasted like it was finely crafted and the amount of cinnamon on top just created the perfect balance of drink. I really enjoyed. Glad I stumbled upon Old World but at the same time lol I have a feeling I will be coming back often. I gave a four star review as I felt the price is a little high for a coffee but aside from that I left pleased. The barista at the register was so nice and for lack of better words, had such good vibes-- remembering faces, thanking customers for waiting and coming in, wishing them a good day, etc. Super friendly guy! We ordered a mocha drogata and an orange blossom latte, and yum! Excellent coffee and the flavorings are on point and well-balanced. The mocha drogata is a delicious spiced mocha (what more can I say), and while I was worried that the orange blossom latte might be too orangey, that was not at all the case. The syrup is a nice added hint of floral and orange notes, which pared well with the cinnamon. My only flaw would be that I wish the honey flavor was more prominent! TLDR: Awesome Customer Service! So we wanted to try a new slow drip coffee place, and this one got rave reviews. As I begin with all coffee reviews, my wife is the coffee drinker. She loves her coffee bitter and strong. According to the barista, they use a unique medium roast blend called Firefly, for the batch brew coffee. Then they have three different single source coffees for the slow drip. We opted for the firefly first, because there was just too many choices for us for the slow drip, and we didn't want to hold up the line. The barista told us they had just run out of the brew, but they were going to start a new batch and it would take a few minutes. We said sure, no problem, we can wait. So we waited. And waited. AND waited. Finally, the coffee lady came to our table with our coffee, and she was apologizing profusely for the wait. We told her not to worry about it, we knew there would be a wait and were willing. But despite that, she still refunded us our money! That was totally unexpected. Just for that, we're giving this place 5 STARS! As for the coffee itself, it was pretty strong. Unfortunately it was the sour kind of coffee, which my wife doesn't enjoy that much. But when we are back in Reno, we will definitely come back to try a slow drip! read more

I got an iced vanilla latte which was very good. Not too bitter, not too sweet. The vanilla syrup was homemade. I love it when I can find a coffee shop with homemade syrup. It's so hard to review during COVID. I can imagine Old World Coffee Lab just a year ago bustling with people working remotely before it was cool. Business meetings over lattes and pastry. Hearing someone sneeze without a panic attack. But we are in this weird, so why not still enjoy some great coffee. This place is one of the best in Reno with their own roasting. Parking is tough with limited on site and street options. This is serious coffee. Any place that roast their own beans already brings a lot to the table. On my trip, I got my usual espresso and croissant. Everything was perfect with the right pull and wonderful pastry. This is a very good sign and says a lot about their menu. COVID has everything behind plastic and masks, but they were happy to see me on a gray Monday morning. The interior is very sparse to encourage distancing, but I see the typical modern coffee shop with wood, metal, and probably some Edison bulbs somewhere. I actually have grown tired of his look, but it's expected with high end coffee places. You can still peek and see the roasting action too. It's good to support local coffee during the weird so it will survive for the post weird. Coffee has been essential, and places like Old World are keeping it going as close to normal as possible. read more

My new favorite coffee shop in Reno! The service and decor is spot-on and there's plenty of seating. My go-to was a mocha + cinnamon (they have a pre-made version of this with cayenne, if you're into that). Totally loved my drink! Their espresso is fantastic. They had a few delicious-looking pastries in their case, but my one suggestion would be to add some avocado or maybe goat cheese/walnuts/honey (oddly specific..) toast to the menu...but that could just be the Cali girl in me speaking :) Will for sure come again when I'm back in town! read more
