TUESDAY AFERNOON IN JULY - 1PM SEVEN WORDS: Bland Buffet / Amish Veneer / Homey but Unspectactular Of all Buffets (Yes, including Golden Corral and Ryan's Steakhouse), this is the worst. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's definitely bland - and that's a problem, given the fact it's a buffet. Naturally, we were greeted promptly and with great courtesy by the hostess and our waiter came up in no time at all and took our drink orders - it was Megan and she was fantastic. However, waiters are individuals and they are hardly a reflection of the restaurant's quality. That's why I tip them - and that can vary from 10-50 percent, based on their service - NOT THE COST NOR THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD. I ordered the buffet and my dining partner ordered the ham loaf. The ham loaf came in less than 10 minutes and the buffet was always stocked and in good clean order. My first plate included mashed potatoes, dumplings, and two pieces of chicken. The noodles hadn't even been salted or peppered. The chicken broth itself was a little bland, too. I wrote off the blandness of the noodles because, after all, it was Amish/Dutch/German fare - all of which often taste bland. The chicken was perfectly terrible. - and this isn't the first time I've had this problemat this restaurant. The cause might be two-fold: First, the vegetable oil (or worse yet, cheaper Canola oil) might not have been changed for several days. Secondly, some pieces were amalgamated into "multi-piece" where the pieces were dumped into two or more at a time - causing them to stick together - I got a wing-breast with one piece (I thought it was just a larger piece until I peeled it apart. On the drive home, I found out the ham loaf was bland/mediocre, too. All this for 26 without including the 6 dollar tip (min wage is 8 USD - she did 45 minutes of solid work, all tolled - but you cannot save bad food, it just leaves a rotten taste in your mouth. read more

Absolutely delicious comfort food! PRO: Food is fabulous. Buffet had 3 sections in a row accessible on both sides, and a separate desert table. One section was cold which was your typical salad fixings. The other two sections were hot and included sides like mashed potatoes, stuffing, a few casseroles, and veggies, and meats including fried chicken, roast beef, and sausage to name a few. Desert table was pies and ice cream. CONS: We went on Sunday, and it was really expensive imo, and really crowded. For 2 of us, we spent $40 for buffet, beverages + tip. I've eaten at this restaurant a handful of times. I've eaten here with my family since they live in the area. Every time we've eaten at the Old Dutch is when the church has a get together and the banquets are always 'buffet style'. We recently ate there in late February and the food was ok. The buffet consisted of a salad, pasta primavera, mashed potatoes w/gravy, corn, ham and another entree. For dessert there we had the option of either apple or cherry pie. Not much of a selection. The best part of the buffet was the salad, given that the other foods were plain (almost said it was bland), but you had to use salt & pepper to give the food some taste. The coffee was good, but I wouldnt compare it to Starbucks or any other gourmet coffee brand. The atmosphere was 'homey' given that we ate in a group in one of their banquet rooms. I've been going to this restaurant for years. It's good Amish-style cooking in the Hocking Hills area. The buffet is on par with similar restaurants located in Ohio's Amish Country (around Berlin, Ohio). It's a little pricey, but well worth the expense due to the sheer number of entree, side, and dessert options. Be advised that your drink is not included in the buffet price. This place shines in its desserts. The pies are rich without being sugary. The coconut cream is close to what I make at home and the French silk is creamy. Even their no bake cookies are scrumptious! Outside there is a small zoo with rescued animals, a putt putt course, and an ice cream shop. The restaurant is also within walking distance from several antique style shops. read more

This is the best Amish style buffet in the Columbus and surrounding vicinity. Yes, Logan is a drive from Columbus. Yes, oh yes, the food is worth the drive! Plus while you're in the area make it a point to visit the Hocking Hills state park(s). The is loaded with culture and its always beautiful down there. We have been to this buffet a few times in the past couple years and it gets better every time we go. This place has everything from soup, to fried homemade chicken, to pie to finish your meal off with. A grand selection of comfort food to win you over. The gift shop has some nice gifts for those who want a treat from semi southern Ohio. Plus if you're in to antiques there is an antique mall next door and a craft mall across the parking lot from the restaurant. So if you find yourself in the area and your hungry, this may be your place. The prices make it well worth it in contrast to Der Dutchman in Plain City. Our party of 9 very much enjoyed our buffet lunch while we were on our little Spring Break getaway. Our server was very friendly, as was all the customer service we received! Our server did amazing with keeping our drinks refilled, was mindful about our kids' ages to make sure she didn't overcharge us and even got all 9 pie orders correct at the end! The food on the buffet was so delicious. It was clean and we appreciated the sanitizer at the beginning. The salad bar had all the toppings you could want, the homemade ranch was amazing and the salads (macaroni, crab) were also very tasty. The hot part of the buffet was incredible. Perfectly cooked crispy fried chicken, the fish nuggets (delightful surprise, breading was perfectly seasoned), Brussels sprouts (wow! Very yummy food!! Wasn't too sure about this place at first but wow they actually have really great quality food/ meats. Much higher quality and greater portions than any of my local diners/ brunch spots. They opened at 11 and we're busy right away. They had a buffet option (at a good price) or menu items. Buffet was basically a combination of everything on the menu, so if you are really hungry, go with that! Buffet also loaded with tons of pies and ice cream for dessert, and the soups of the day. I went with the BLT sandwich. Bacon was great quality, thick, and cooked well. There was actually so much of it that I took some off! Friends tried the open face pot roast sandwich, it was HUGE! But oh my was the meat tender and soooo tasty. Mashed potatoes were great too, and I believe made fresh. Everything was really really good and service was great too. They do not serve breakfast foods at all though. We all were hoping for eggs but they only do lunch and dinner. Place was very cute and has fun stuff just outside of it (like goats, golf, and antique malls!) Really fun stop on the way home from camping. read more

I do not like buffets. This was like no buffet I had ever been to! The food was actually good! The mashed potatoes were homemade it said and they tasted good! I am gluten free and felt I had plenty of options. The staff was super friendly with my little kids. The desserts were awesome. My husband was glad I made him stay and eat here because he doesn't like them either. I liked the price level for kids of different ages. My two littles were free and my 10 year old was cheap. About $14 for dinner, salad, main course and dessert. Can't go wrong. Only thing is I wish they opened early. Opens at 11 and we wanted breakfast one day. read more

I was visiting the Hocking Hills area from Florida. After a long day of hiking, I decided to grab a bite to eat before heading back. The restaurant had the shortest wait time compared to surrounding restaurants. The staff was friendly, the food tasted good, the price was a little high for a buffet but overall things were great. Then it hit. 10 hours later my father came down with foot poisoning. He ate something different than I did so I didn't have issues. I get it it's a buffet but maybe steps to prevent food poisoning might be in order. read more

I can't say enough as to how good the food is here. We were staying in Hocking Hill for a weekend getaway and decided to try the Olde Dutch Restaurant, as we love Amish style food. Although the buffet looked wonderful, we decided to order from the menu. I had the dutch style noodles, they were excellent. A really nice building and location with great food. Prices are inline with what you might expect to pay at such buffet's. Grab a visitors book, they almost always contain coupons that will save you some money. If you can walk after your meal and the ample dessert selection, walk right next to the building to pet and feed goats and fallow deer. Also in this little area (all easily walk-able to each other) is an ice cream shop, putt putt golf, craft store, a wonderful antique store and a unique grocery.
