A really nice building and location with great food. Prices are inline with what you might expect to pay at such buffet's. Grab a visitors book, they almost always contain coupons that will save you some money. If you can walk after your meal and the ample dessert selection, walk right next to the building to pet and feed goats and fallow deer. Also in this little area (all easily walk-able to each other) is an ice cream shop, putt putt golf, craft store, a wonderful antique store and a unique grocery. I really wish I would've read these reviews before I made the mistake of coming here on my first visit to Hocking Hills. Let me start by saying the buffet is $15.29 which is ridiculous. Three of us ordered the buffet and not a single one of us liked it. Just like the other reviews mention: Everything is bland. Everything tastes like it came out of a can. The fried chicken is a contender for worst fried chicken I've ever had. Even the pie is bland. Everyone was upset we paid way more than we would've somewhere else and had a bad experience. The only reason this doesn't get one star is the service was attentive and kind. But it doesn't help that the food is a huge let down. Skip this restaurant. read more

My wife and I stopped in on the Saturday evening of the Circleville Pumpkin Show. It was crowded, but the staff kept people moving quickly! My wife absolutely loves the way they call people who have been waiting for a table! They give out popsicle sticks with different (famous) names on them and your party is called by that name. While we were waiting for our table, my wife would giggle every time she heard a group called to the hostess station -- "Mick Jagger, party of two," "Aerosmith, party of five," "John Wayne, party of three," etc. The best part, though, is that we got to wait as "Cinderella!" The buffet has a very well-stocked gift shop attached, so there is plenty to look at as you wait for your table. I'm sure they are hoping that you'll find something additional to buy and it worked with us. We picked up a couple Christmas gifts for family members while waiting. We were seated for dinner within 15 minutes or so -- not a terribly long wait. The waitress was over to greet us within a minute or so. She was very friendly and attentive to us, even though she was working several tables at once. The restaurant's homemade rolls were fantastic! They were very tasty and could have made a meal all by themselves. The buffet was very well stocked and attended to, and the food was delicious! The steam tables were being restocked and cleaned almost constantly by staff. If any food item was getting low, it was refilled very quickly. The salad bar was also very clean and had plenty of assortment to it. Particularly appealing, however, were the dessert tables! There was a great selection of sweets and treats, including very good lemon meringue pie and a Boston cream pie! The buffet was not terribly expensive, but you paid extra for drinks and tip. I have family that live in the area and told me this restaurant was under new management and is much improved. So..... Went here on a Saturday after a hike through Ash Cave. The place was decently busy, but waited less than 5 minutes for our table. My first stop was the restroom which was exceptionally clean and looked to be recently remodeled. We ordered the buffet and was nicely stocked with fresh offerings constantly being put out. Tons of selections and all the food was really good. The best part of the buffet was the dessert bar! Approximately 8 different flavors of ice cream, and another 6 to 8 pies that looked to be homemade. I had the coconut cream pie and it was AWESOME! Our server Whitney, was friendly and prompt. Our drinks were kept filled, and our empty plates cleared. I docked one star because although the price for children 10 & under is reasonable at $4.99, the adult buffet is pretty pricey @ $14.99. For a buffet w/o steak, I think 2 to 3 dollars cheaper would suffice. read more

Food poising in about 30 minutes after eating at this restaurant. I had Vomiting and diarrhea. Manager refused to acknowledge it was from her restaurant. But I hadn't eaten today prior to this. She said it takes 12 hours to show up. False, for common staph food poisoning from heating food for too long it takes 30 minutes to 8 hrs. We were driving from Newark to Athens to see my son at college, and wanted to stop someplace different for dinner. I'd seen this restaurant in passing several times, and have been missing the local amish restaurant which closed in our area of Ohio several years ago, so we decided to stop in. The first surprise was that it was a buffett... I avoid buffets at all costs. But that was my mistake for not checking ahead. The second surprise was the price; over $15 apiece with tax and drink. There were 5 of us (including my 11 year old daughter). The "child" price of $4 is only for kids 3-10. We tried to talk her into ordering from the INCREDIBLY limited menu instead, but she really wanted "a variety". She ended up eating a sausage patty, two dinner rolls, a biscuit, and a piece of pie. Again, not the restaurant's fault that she didn't find any of the other offerings even slightly appealing, but charging full price for an 11 year old? Seriously... My son ordered the grilled cheese plate off the menu, and ended up sending the sandwich back (the cheese was only half melted, and the bread had an odd flavor, which I confirmed). They were still nice enough to charge us for the cold fries that came with it, however - and they went half-eaten. My wife and I leafed through the tiny menu of buffet alternatives (we're talking seriously limited here) but opted for just the salad bar instead... both for price sake, and for some lighter fare than what the full bar seemed to be offering. There was a decent selection on the salad bar, plus some bland bean soup and a tomato Florentine soup with what appeared to be blown out, overcooked pasta (we passed on the tomato soup) , but certainly nothing to warrant nearly $11 each. The various casseroles, gravies, mayo based salads, and assorted mystery meats were not presented in any particularly flattering manner, but I did enjoy the turkey salad on the salad bar, and the pies were a big hit - they received rave reviews from the two kids who had them. My wife also enjoyed the cornbread (included with the soup on the salad bar) VERY much. The staff was friendly enough, but seemed distracted for some reason - constantly cleaning, wandering around, restocking the tiny food holders at the bars... attentive, but very distracting to the customers. The buffet's overall appearance and layout kinda made it look like it an afterthought (at first I thought it may have been a nightly special instead of the restaurant's main focus). All in all, it was a costly dinner that really left us flat. I don't mind paying a decent price for a quality, good value meal, and while the quantity may have been there, I can't say I felt the quality was, which made the value suffer. Reading the other reviews, perhaps we just hit it at the wrong time.... but I'd figure 7pm on a Friday would be typical, yes? read more

Not sure what is that good or bad about this place. The food was very bland. This place lacks a signature Dutch dish. They provide a menu and a buffet. The buffet was ok. The menu was plain and simple. The best thing I ate was the salad from the buffet. The server was very good and friendly. The worst thing about the experience was the DUTCH apple pie I had for desert. The pie was not heated at all and was very cold! To make matters worse I believe it was a Sara Lee frozen pie... Went here over the summer where my boyfriend and I camped out in Hocking Hills. Maybe it's the fact that we haven't had legit food for 2.5 days or the fact that we were sweating hot and haven't showered in a while or that we hiked over 3.5 miles in the sweltering heat. I think it might be all of the above, but going into an air conditioned place with a running bathroom and an array of authentic Dutch food was MAGICAL. The food tasted HEAVENLY....we couldn't stop stuffing ourselves with the corn pie. We still talk about how much we love this place but too bad we're all the way from Philadelphia, PA. read more

Ok, food was decent, but most of it was what you'd come to expect from this type of restaurant/buffet. Exceptions: the grilled salmon - it was surprisingly good, very moist, and flavorful; good soup variety including one that's a bit unusual, a tomato-based "taco soup" with lots of ground beef and surprisingly good combo of spices. All in all, good food for the price on this weekday ($10 a person); I'm not sure I would have felt the same on the weekend (understand it goes to $14), but not sure what extras they have either. Oh yeah - decent little gift shop, but unless your an Ohio State fan, it's pretty standard shop fair. My boyfriend and I were spending a weekend in Hocking Hills, so we came up to Rempel's Grove and Logan for some food and shopping. Olde Dutch was our first stop, and pretty satisfying for lunch. (We did the buffet.) Highlights: crispy fried chicken, tater tot casserole, dense fluffy bread rolls. Not so much: chicken liver. Everything else was fine, and there were lots of options -- salad bar, soup, mashed potatoes, corn, vegetable medley, roast beef, etc. Also a dessert bar with cakes, puddings, and pie. Service was fine and the ambiance was casual (perfect for us since we had just finished hiking). Went here on a Friday after a long day of hiking in the hills. I think the best thing on the buffet line is the broasted chicken...way better than Lady and Sons (Paula Deen's restaurant) in Savannah. I've been to a lot of Amish restaurants and even worked at one long ago. I have to say, I've never seen one that serves pies, cakes, and ice cream as part of their buffet. Very friendly service, we were seated within 10 minutes and the buffet was delicious. The only negative thing I can say was that there was basically no waiting area, you walked into a gift shop and you had to walk through the gift shop to get to the restaurant - My friend was a little tired and wanted to sit down thankfully we found a small wooden chair that was next to the hostess area. We've enjoyed lunches and dinners at the Old Dutch Restaurant for years on our frequent trips to Hocking Hills. After a day of hiking it's a great place to grab a quick, reasonably priced buffet meal. There's tons of seating, so I can't imagine there's ever a line. The staff is nice, but stretched too thin, it seems. And for whatever reason, napkins... The regular paper kind... Are really, really hard to get! The last two times, though, have been less than what we've come to expect. Seems like the food on the buffet is sitting out longer or is over cooked and dry. The desserts were never terrific, but now they are dry and lacking flavor. It's still a decent meal for the price! read more

They have the best fried chicken and cheeseburger soup. It is an hour and a half drive for us. Each time we request the cheeseburger soup. We are told they will see what they can do, but we have only had it once. We also love the fried chicken. We were very disappointed on our last visit. Not only did they not have the cheeseburger soup, but there was a man that came into the restaurant to get a take-out order. He ran in the door and loaded up containers with all the fried chicken. Many people were disappointed. The restaurant should not allow a patron to take all the chicken from the buffet. It was very rude of him, and the restaurant should have stopped him. We had lunch on Sunday before heading back home. The buffet has a huge selection, but for me, the stars of the show were the broasted chicken and the homemade rolls! This was among some of the best broasted chicken I have had - super crispy on the outside and incredible flavor. They also have a wide variety of sides (mashed potatoes, green beans, cooked carrots, stuffing, etc.) and a lot of other meat options. Tons of pie choices for dessert. I had a piece of the chocolate cream, and it did not disappoint. The service was great, and though it was busy, we had only a short wait. Afterwards we enjoyed taking our daughter to look at the goats in the petting zoo. Hoping this will become a new staple whenever we are in the area! read more

I was previously a Chef and personally I typically enjoy buffets so I can sample a variety of the foods a place has to offer. I am accustomed to the issues with holding temps etc on a buffet and will state that the majority of the items on the buffet were hot enough. That being said however, I will say that the food here is typically rather bland. Understanding that buffet food needs to accommodate the variety of personal pallets and therefore can not be overbearing in seasoning; I would have to say they can do better than what they are offering. The variety on the buffet varies very little from day to day and is catered to the tastes of locals (chicken livers and stewed tomatoes???). This place far exceeded our expectations. Stopped here with our two year old and our 8 month old in search of a quick hot meal. Both of us had the buffet and shared with our toddler as kids under 3 are free. Chicken was fantastic, The mac and cheese is a must and the desserts were all delicious.
