My wife and I are out visiting our grandkids and took three of the boys out for our traditional breakfast in Chester at The Olde Post Restaurant. We were warmly greeted by Cory who is very friendly and gave us each a hug. We sat at the window and everyone ordered something different. I had the Irish Eggs Benedict which swaps out corned beef hash in place of Canadian bacon ($12.50) and includes some killer crispy home fries. The boys had waffles and sides of sausage and super crisp and tasty strips of bacon. My wife has two eggs and the home fries with side of toast. Everything was well made and tasted great. This place is loaded with locals and it's a little like going into someone's home for breakfast. We gave a nod and waive to Rob the owner/chef and got another hug from Cory on the way out the door. I found the prices a little high and the food is good, not great. They could also improve on their coffee and I won't be ordering it next time. I wouldn't drive out of my way to go here but we really like to stop by when visiting to enjoy breakfast at this classic old school place. Have been here quite a few times and while the food is decent the staff can be extremely rude depending on which waitress you have. This is a very small establishment so if you have 4 people you are going to be one of their "larger" parties and if you have more than 4 be prepared as they only have one table that seats 6 and any more than that you will not be sitting at the same table. If this place wasn't 5 minutes from my house I wouldn't ever go back but sometimes it is just convenient. read more

We've been going here for many years and we've mostly been getting take out, but the restaurant is open to eat in! I had my first chicken pesto sandwich here quite a few years ago & it is delicious and not only that, consistent. The same flavorful sandwich every time! I've tried getting it elsewhere, but it's never as good. Rob does a great job! My husband loves his turkey club! It's a great serving size with lots of Turkey. His comment is that it's consistent. It was one of favorite places for breakfast over the years. My wife and I were there on Oct 18 19 we order our favorite breakfast two eggs over easy home Fyes and Bacon. And the thick raisin bread toast. Well all I have to say when the server brought it out it looked like something from a greasy spoon. And that's what took us over the edge was the server. She had the personality of a rock. And the prices they charge$$ are crazy for that kind of food & service. Put a fork in me I'm done. And I forgot one thing. Absolutely terrible today! I used to like that this place was less than a 1/4 mile away from my home. But after today I doubt I return. I walked in today to place an order to go. They sweet old lady at the front walked me to the counter and began to take my order. Before she could finish the cook comes out the back and says "Is that a huge to go order?", she shrugged it off and continued to take my order. Mind you I literally ordered 4 pancakes and two omelettes to which he replies "oh that's a huge order it's gonna take more than 40 minutes." I replied sarcastically "thanks a lot guys" and walked off. Listen buddy the whole premise of your business is to sell food, if you don't want to cook it, you probably should of picked another profession. Your a cook, stay in the kitchen and make the food that's ordered, if customers wanted your opinion, we would certainly ask for it, or ask the waitress what the wait time is! We just went there for the first time last weekend. We just moved to Chester this week! Nicole was our server and she was fantastic! She was super nice and attentive and she was busy for sure! Worst service in the world, the best food. I used to live and work in Chester, NH and we would go here for breakfast and lunch quite frequently. I would put the Olde Post's breakfast menu up against the likes of Manchester's Red Arrow, Chez Vachon or Blake's any day and the Old Post would win. It does get packed so be prepared to wait on the weekends, I'd actually recommend you avoid it altogether on the weekends. Make it a special weekday treat with your friend or child to wake up a few minutes early and pop by. I love their Texas Burgers. Their burgers are great and come on the most delicious rolls and are always cooked to perfection. Their fries are thick and crispy. You will leave smelling like a fryer. It is the price you pay for excellence. However, you will have the worst server in the entire world. She is the only one that works there for weekday lunches and she is inept, you may never get your drinks, the correct order or your food correctly. My recommendation for lunch is get it to go. Oh, don't sit at the counter unless you like Fox News, that's all that's ever on...it's rural New Hampshire after all. read more

I am not posting a review about the food or the staff. I have eaten here and have always been pleased with the food even if staff tends to rush people out the door when the meal is complete.....visiting is not encouraged here, but the food IS good. This review is about repeated attempts to purchase gift certificates. I just tried again. I am not able to drive at this time so am TRYING to do this over the phone. We called ahead and had a table for four waiting for us when we arrived. The Turkey club was delicious and my husband really enjoyed his steak and cheese. My daughters ordered French toast made with homemade bread and loved it. They were doing a good job of spacing the tables out and the waitresses were busy but attentive. If you happen to look at the rest of the reviews mine will mirror the rest. Wish the owners of the restaurant would actually do the same. Me and my wife have been there 5 times now. But this last time being there will be our last. Food is great, farm to plate style. Unless your a regular the service is awful. Slow, demanding,short, and not patient ether. After saying we needed a minute to look at the menus, she comes over 1 min later and says alright times up. In what world would you ever as a waitress tell a customer alright times up?! Secondly I am putting my order in and I asked for grilled onions with my home fries and she says sorry too busy. First off place wasn't very busy and how can you now put onions on home fries when they are going on the omelet I ordered!!!!! If you would like good food with awful service go right ahead and stop in. But if you would like the best of both worlds there are much better places 3 miles up the road. read more

Service is very slow, waitstaff never notices we were seated and waiting. People that came in before us, got coffee and places their order before we were even recognized!Then we were told the menus were the pamphlets on the table!!! It's a little strange being a new person we do not know the specials and they are only posted OUTSIDE THE DOOR and not know the location of menus. We felt foolish!The food was "good" but boring and lacked flavor. I found the menu plain and expensive. We decided one visit here would be enough. This is a cozy little breakfast/lunch place located at the 121a/102 crossing. I love this place. For breakfast they make all their own breads and you have the option for homemade or regular. The homemade french toast is some of the best I've ever had. I've had almost everything on their menu since I live relatively close. Prices are very reasonable and food is always fresh. I've never had a bad meal there. They do takeout or seat in and are open Tues-Sunday until 1:30pm. read more

Ya know, the food here is pretty darn great. They always have large portions, good meat and great waffles and omelettes. My main complaint is sort of endemic to a small town breakfast place. The waitstaff, though friendly, are slow. There is only one cook in the back (due to a small kitchen) so if it is busy you will have a LONG wait even if the wait staff is more active than normal. There are obvious regulars that have established good relations with the waitresses, but when the conversations and preferential treatment affects the service of the rest of the customers, then it is a determent as opposed to an asset. I have lived in the Chester area for 20 years. No one could believe that I have never eater here - so my family took me here for lunch. OMG this place is great. I had breakfast for lunch - because that's what I wanted. The food was simply the best. The restaurant decor was perfect for a small town. And, the employees were so friendly. It was perfect...I really mean it. This is my new favorite place - anywhere. Olde Post gets 2 stars only because it USED to be great. Have been here MANY times and used to be so much better. It was a bit of a drive for us but we even introduced others to this place who also (at the time) thought it was a great place to go. It's true what the customers have been saying, it's the SERVICE that is killing this place. The last time (literally will be the last) we got seated after a long wait when there were two empty tables. And literally as I had my fork in my hand the older gruff waitress came by and scooped up my plate and reminded us that people were waiting for this table. Good lord....what happened? The food is GREAT there, not just breakfast but the reuben sandwhich at lunch and wings? Yum. The ambiance is really great, but your SERVICE is killing you. She must be the owner or related to the owner because I fail to see how this can be ignored. This fell off our restaurant "breakfast round" over a year ago. I am a huuuuge breakfast lover and have to say, compared to any other local restaurant I've tried (Mary Anne English Muffin Cracker Barrel etc.) I continue to look for better but I feel like I've waisted time and money because there is non better than Chester Olde Post until you get to Portsmouth or the Mountains. I always have a great country home like experience. Prices are reasonable with good portions and service is very prompt and friendly. I recommend anyone traveling around or just want to try some place new to them this aught to be the place. No exaggerations read more

My sister took us to breakfast at this restaurant a few weeks ago and we took friends back today. The food is great and the homemade cinnamon raisin bread is awesome! It's really not that hard to be friendly and patient if you are a sever, that's the job you signed up for but the older woman who works there who we always get stuck with is the reason we won't be going back. And after reading the rest of these reviews seems to be the same issue for a lot of customers. Food was always good no complaints there but I don't go out for breakfast intending to get hassled, eye rolls and made to feel like I'm the problem because I have questions about things. We recently moved to the area and discovered the Olde Post Restaurant in Chester while driving around after church. As stated before - this place is cozy and quaint, and we had a wonderful breakfast! We like that it's not a chain restaurant, and has just good home-style cooking. Today's specials, pumpkin pancakes and waffle, were yummy, and we decided we had to try the homemade cinnamon bun too... also yummy! We always used to love going out to breakfast after church where we used to live, but hadn't found any place we enjoyed doing that since moving here... until now! read more

Some of the best home made cooking to be found in N.H. be sure to order the "Home Made Toast" it is to die for. Small quaint atmosphere that is usually packed on weekends but well worth the wait.
