First of all, I am a sucker for a diner waitress that calls me "honey." But that won't influence my review. My husband and I ate here on a busy Sunday morning. We didn't have to wait long for a spot at the counter. The spacious dining area probably helped with the short wait. The ambiance is cozy and warm with a subtle gnome theme. Our waitress was very knowledgable (helpful with my husband's food allergies) and friendly. She also gave us a heads up when our food was coming, although weren't in a rush. Friendly service and sweet ambiance. Bright and airy. Good corner restaurant attached into a corner strip mall. Double the size of most breakfast places in a strip mall. Food was delicious and served in good time. Had an excellent vegetarian omelette with cheese and 2 blueberry pancakes, that were so easy to cut with a fork. Delicious. Good coffee with refills. Came here for brunch on a weekend morning and the place was a bit busy, but we seemed to have missed the rush as there were a good amount of people just loitering outside, probably done with their meal. Menu had solid brunch selections for reasonable prices. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time and everything tasted correct - I enjoyed my eggs and the home fries were great. Did you know that corned beef hash omelets are a thing? I sure didn't...till I visited this place. And no....I did not order one. Though I actually had this place in my sights for some time, I didn't decide to visit until a friend re-recommended I check it out. If I had a dime for all the times I look up a new destination...only to discover that I had already previously bookmarked it, I'd probably be able to purchase a Tesla. But seriously, folks...visiting this place was long overdue. You see, we needed another breakfast option; preferably a local one with halfway decent coffee that doesn't resemble the look, consistency, and taste of dishwater (I'm lookin' at you, DP). As many of you know, breakfast ain't exactly the most complicated meal to make. It's also pretty easy not to screw up. So, to save time, I'll run through my usual all time favorite breakfast which is....just about any rendition of hash n' eggs. Hash was excellent and so was the toast. The eggs and homefries were fine. Pretty much on par with Donna's Place in Hudson, actually. The thing that would make me return here instead of there is...the coffee. See, I think I figured something out about breakfast places; especially here in New England. If a restaurant offers, at least, a few different brews and/or flavors of coffee, that's a pretty good sign the coffee will not only be better than average. It's also a good sign you'll probably find just the right brew for yourself. Brooklyn Bagel has it. This place Janie's has it. Hell....even Waffle House offers a dark roast option in addition to their standard breakfast blend. And every one of these aforementioned breakfast Valhallas rocks the cazbah! Think about it. If a restaurant offers only ONE blend of coffee, you have to hope that it will.. 1.) Be at least bold enough NOT to resemble the taste and translucency of tea. 2.) Not taste worse than DnD's. The dining area is sufficiently large. Plus, they have scan n' pay for speedy checkout. I sincerely wish more dine-in restaurants would offer this option. Especially considering America is one of the only countries (that I know of) that permits a stranger to take your credit/debit card completely out of the patron's direct view and slide it for payment. I feel as though scan n' pay could resolve the slim possibility of credit card fraud. But, I digress. It's there. It's awesome. Highly recommend taking advantage of it. We'll be returning to this lovely hot spot, I'm sure. Janie's Uncommon Cafe gets 4 bold cups of coffee strong enough to make the hairs on your back stand up out of 5. read more

Such a cute breakfast spot - they have all the basics you would want from eggs to French toast to skillets!!! They have lighter options so if you want an omelette with two eggs instead of three that is a possibility! If you want rye, wheat, or white toast - those are all options. They don't have tons of decorations because they're not trying to be kitschy, they're trying to get you in and out with great speed and they definitely do that! We used to go here every Sunday morning. It was always great, piping hot and tasty. Coffee was always good. The specials would keep you coming back. Since ownership change it has gone downhill. Menu has been downsized. No specials anymore. Prices have gone up dramatically. Went this morning and my over easy eggs barely touched the grill and had no flavor. Toast might have been in the toaster for a full 30 seconds, no crunch. And the coffee was basically brown water. Used to have to wait to get a table, we walked right in. We've been coming here for years with the previous owner. Everything was run impeccably with good food and good service. The new owner that bought this is running a sorority house. The "front of house" "manager" is openly rude to some employees and all of the front of house/waitress staff collect together and have a gaggle of gossip in front of customers. We would come here all the time and love it but something has definitely changed. Over the weekend we came in for breakfast and decided it would be our last time in. We were all disappointed with our meals, including the very watery coffee. The eggs were tiny and bacon had definitely been cooked some time ago. Pancakes were tepid and lacked any real flavor. The only way I can describe the homefries is that they tasted like they had been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. They were greasy and downright not fit to eat. It seems that this has gone from an upscale diner to just another overpriced greasy spoon. Our server was kind enough but nothing special to report. The most shocking part of this visit was the cleanliness. I went o the bathroom and saw an Employees Only door near the bathrooms. The bottom third of the door was FILTHY! I'm guessing the staff open/prop this door with their feet and its marks from shoes, but this was so glaring. It made me wonder how clean the kitchen on the other side of the door was. read more

I'm giving this restaurant very high marks. They consistently have very good breakfasts. The wait staff is very attentive and very kind. I recommend this place particularly if you're headed up to New Hampshire on Route 93 as it's just off the highway. The one thing that I wish they would do, and this is not unique to this restaurant, is to update their website when they close. The restaurants website indicated that they were open 7 days a week for breakfast. I fully expected that they would be closed on Christmas but we drove up the day after (12/26) from Arlington MA and they were closed. Well-deserved, I'm sure, but wish their was some indication on their website. Fortunately we were able to find another place, North Side Grill, a few miles down the road. We came in to a very clean and warm environment, all of the staff was very nice and checked on us periodically. The food was ok, very typical diner food. Decent sizes for the price. I ordered the basic breakfast, The hash browns are shredded, and while not heavily seasoned they were solid. The home fries are split red skin potatoes, not crispy/fried, but nice and buttery and soft. the sourdough toast was light and fluffy but quite oily and wet on the top, like liquid margarine was used. Eggs were cooked well, bacon was Smokey and fatty. All over a good hangover meal, but not the first choice for breakfast. read more
