A nice hidden way Elgin bar that is a dive and has some crazy locals and a homie cabin feeling at one time this bar might actually have been a cabin in the woods and it seems like it is right off the busy Route 12 in in a underpass old developed area of under it this bar was outstanding with plenty of televisions and gambling and had the old crusty seating that one would associate with a dive bar the bathrooms were discussingly small and there was stickers and graffiti in and around the bathroom area the four slot machines area also are in the other corner and ridiculously small the small Windows give it a homie feeling and you can actually look out and see cars drive close by and hear the trucks in route 20 they even have an outside and a pool area to get away from the rest of the ugly fuckers who might be inside the bar there's one pool table in a patio type setting and the small and bumpy parking lot could be difficult to Traverse read more

I truly have never had a more expensive, disappointing lunch in my life. I only gave one star because I couldn't give 0. The BLT sandwich was a gloppy mess that fell apart instantly. The fries were cold and greasy. The Chicken Wrap was tasteless and the tortilla was stale. The mozzarella sticks, onion rings, mushrooms were over cooked and greasy. A few weeks on a Sunday ago I ordered wings. Sadly, they had a fishy taste from the Friday fish fry. I notified the owner and she said the oil was always changed post fish fry. She said she would insure it would be changed after future fish fry. I am very happy to report that I have ordered the wings three times since and they were fantastic. No fishy aftertaste. Smith's has a 90 year history in Elgin? I knew that before I went the first time. This is a great little bar with good food and great service. It's a bit of a "Star Wars cantina" mix of people for sure. Drop in, you'll like it too. read more

To be honest I really enjoying coming out to this place. It has a nice atmosphere and they offer Karaoke on Saturdays. The drinks are always cold and the prices are fairly cheap. It's a good spot to get down and sing a few on the weekend. read more

My friend and I have been stopping off at Olde Towne Inn for years on our bike rides along the Illinois Prairie Path. We ride a loop and this spot is the perfect lunch spot. We sit outside and always have had great service. We have had the wings and burgers which are good but the biscuits and gravy are outstanding and the prices are cheap. Looking forward to our first ride of the season to stop in. read more

Came here to try the fish fry with my boyfriend and his daughter. I first had to go to ask someone at the bar if they could take our order after we had been sitting for a bit. We didn't get our drinks until we got our food which was like 30 minutes later. The fish was ok, but her burger wasn't cooked well. During our meal I had to get up & ask for lemon & tartar sauce. Not once did they come over & ask how we were until we were done eating. I'm glad we used a Groupon for this place, and even at that they didn't deduct it from the bill & had to refund me & recharge me! We'll be sticking to Our Place in S.Elgin for fish! read more

Basic, but not in a bad way. It is what it is, a neighborhood bar full of locals. The food is good, but nothing fancy, but it doesn't claim to be. The crowd may look at you weird when you first walk in if you're new, but they warmed up fast. Mostly a 40's - 60's crowd, so I my friends and I were a bit out of place, but everyone was nice. I just want to start off by saying I feel very bad for the new owner of this bar , because I know that she wants this a bar to be something better but because of the current clientele I don't think it will be changing anytime soon. It has been and it looks like it will stay a pub for the local riffraff. We have tried this place on two separate occasions since the new owner took over. The food is pretty good except for our fries on the last visit were overcooked and unsalted. We went for the Friday fish fry my wife and my daughter who is 16 had the shrimp and I had the halibut. Both were very good. They did have quite a few inappropriate songs for children coming out of the jukebox , but I guess that is what is to be expected from a pub like this. The service was lacking to say the least. The men's bathroom was slapped together and needs a complete overhaul. The bar it's self is oversized so it takes up half of the square footage of the entire establishment. Overall because of the bad service on two occasions and the type of crowd this place caters to we will not be going back again. Which is too bad because it is right down the street from our home. I wish the new owner luck in turning this place into what she really would like it to be. read more

If you like disgusting cheap imitation food, this is the place to go! The hamburger's are a $1 because they are cheap processed 40% vegetable burgers. They use the same grill for not only chicken but hamburgers as well! Come find out one side of the grill isnt working! Was told by another patron they have the hamburger thawing out all nite without it being in ice! Even though bacteria would be spreading like wildfir they use it and you eat it! Tried the chicken sandwich, the meat was hard, kinda like microwaved hard. Gagged when I tried it, took the $8 loss. The place also smelled you can see garbage bags lying in the dump area in the back. Saving a few dollars for imitation food isnt worth the health hazard, run the other way and save yourself a major hospital visit! read more
