After being out running around in the morning I noticed some rumbling in my tummy. Time to feed the beast before walking into a grocery store. Our sites were set on one establishment then saw another we liked and when we pulled into the parking lot, it was like a guiding light we saw McAlister's Deli. First time visit for this establishment. Ivan could not have made the experience more pleasurable. From the ordering of the food, delivery to the table to the clearing of our table he had exceeded our expectations and deserves this honorable mention. The menu board above the kitchen passthrough looked overwhelmingly extensive. We took a step back to look it over for a while. Iven was there to educate us as we asked questions. I finally settled on one of the spuds (spud max). My wife decided on soup (Chicken Tortilla) no green onions topping, sandwich (French Dip) no cheese, and a side (Tomato and cucumber salad). Yes, she is very choosy when it comes to "what's in it" before eating something. What impressed me was the fact that a young lady emerged from the kitchen area and mentioned that the soup choice my wife made did in fact had an item in it that she asked not to have as a topping (green onion). Here I was left alone to make my spouses decision. Without going into all the details.... It was reported that the soup was great! After ordering you are handed a number that you place at the table of your choice, then it is brought out to you. Leave the dishes as it's cleaned up for you. They have 2 size drinks.... 32oz, and child size probably about 10oz. I suggest you take the time and check out the on-line menu before jumping in. Employees don't actually read order tickets. Almost always missing something from my order. I'd say my food is wrong 25% of the time. Anytime I try to add extra of something they put none of it in at all. Maybe the way the tickets print is the problem but more training should definitely be done on how to read their tickets to avoid the issue. Cause it is way too frequent. Overall the establishment is clean, and fast service. I have tried the ultimate nachos and they were pretty filling. They come with chili, cheese, olives, jalapeños, tomatoes, sour cream, and avocado. The soups are ok just a bit water down for my taste, the baked potato soup is ok and not that many potatoes in them. The chicken and dumplings has good flavor but again not that many dumplings. The grilled chicken sandwich is ok but but need a bit more seasoning for my taste. The best salad that is on point is the southwest chicken salad, and their house dressing. I like to pick up lunch at McAlister's Deli. My favorites are the McAlister's club sandwich, the Veggie Spud and a tall glass of their sweet iced tea. I want to try other menu items, but I seem to gravitate towards these. The service is usually fast. Lunch during the weekend can be busy. The staff is nice. The food was good, just small portions ans weird customer service experience. I got a half chicken salad sandwich and half a salad. My chicken salad sandwich was probably five bites? In the past it's been in a decent sized croissant and full of chicken salad. This one was pretty sad. We ordered drinks but I had to ask a different worker for them, as the cashier forgot to get them. Not a huge deal, but just a lot of little things that added up. The guy seemed very out of it....like it was hard to communicate my order to him. I told him I wanted the sherry shallot dressing and he responded they were out of the raspberry...ok? I ordered from here off Uber eats one night because I was craving a nice salad. Let me say it was so good I ordered the very next day again! I ordered the Savannah Chopped Salad and a few other items for my husband as well. We were both so fulfilled that we had to have them again the next day. The spud options are delicious. This is a family favorite, so we've dined here quite a bit. I love the spuds, the New Yorker & the potato soup. Oh, and the potato salad! Difficult to decide what to get because there are so many yummy options, but the choose 2 is great for that. We used to be big fans of Panera, but have found we enjoy McAlister's more. Portions are a good size for most normal humans. My husband is a BIG eater & he's quite content after he's eaten at McAlister's. Lots of good sandwich options & you are able to customize as you need (for instance, I dislike tomatoes). The staff is attentive & will gladly refill your drink (their sweet tea or lemonades are super tasty - add a fresh puree for a fruity flavor! Yum!) Very happy to have a McAlister's nearby. read more

McAlister's is a delightful spot for good salads and sandwiches. We have gone there plenty of times and always leave with full bellies and satisfied tastebuds. The most recent trip was an interesting experience. We had ordered all of our food to go. Not some of the food, all of it. The manager was working the front with other team members and told the kitchen our order. The order came out on plates, which of course, cannot be taken out of the restaurant. He asked if we had wanted them to go...yes of course. So instead of just saying they needed to be in containers or saying "whoops, my bad", he said that we changed our minds and needed them to go. Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but don't lie. Don't lie about customers and don't lie in front of us. At least lie in secret. And then one of our kiddos had to go to the bathroom because all kids do when it's inconvenient. So during that walk to the bathroom, the manager stared my man down. We paid you for your food and the lie, don't give dirty looks because of a natural bodily need. Chill out my friend and show some respect to people who come to your restaurant. read more

So, I gave McAlister's a couple weeks before dropping in. My son and I had lunch there during a very busy Sunday lunch hour, and we were happy with how it went. The workers were all super friendly. Maybe not fully trained on the register, but nice. The menu is large, so check it out online before you go as the big electronic board can be overwhelming, and it flips screens. We ordered the BLT+A with a side of applesauce and an additional Caesar side salad. Let's start with the ordering...the kind teen helping me didn't think we could get the sandwich as a wrap. I can't believe this to be true, but I didn't push and we got it as a traditional sandwich. When ordering the side, he began to offer me any salad as a side salad. The manager must have overheard, and he came over to correct him that is just a Caesar or a garden side salad for your choices. This is what I mean about the training...surely you can change breads and one should know the side choices...But, he was nice :-) As for the food, the sandwich had lots of very good bacon, plenty of fresh tomatoes and lettuce, but a little too much mayo. I'm also wondering about the bread, it was supposed to be a 9-grain, but it had no seeds. It seemed more like toasted sourdough to me. It was good, but I would ask for the 9-grain, or a wrap, next time. My son ate all the applesauce, it was a decent side portion, and I had the salad. This was the only disappointing part...It was drenched in dressing. I should have taken it back, instead I tried to scrape off dressing. The flavor was good, just way too much. I will definitely go back. I think the prices are more competitive than Panera, and the flavors are good. The sandwich was stuffed, and my son wants to try a couple things off the kids menu. Great staff, clean restaurant, delicious food! Our company hosted a tour for a visiting organization today. The group had arranged lunch through McAlister's Deli on Randall Rd in Elgin. The delivery staff member was delightful and set up the 53 box lunches in our conference hall. The lunches arrived before the visiting group and so they were not paid for. As the Elgin location is just a zig zag off of my route home, I offered to drop off their check after work. Such a simple thing to do! The staff at the restaurant were friendly and very helpful! And the catering and restaurant managers offered me a free meal. It truly wasn't necessary but was so kind! I kept it simple with a wrap. BUT! It is delicious! Eating while I type. McAlister's you have won my future business. I think I will take that little zig zag home more often and pick up McAlister's sandwiches on the way!! read more

McAlister's is one of my favorite chain sandwich shops, and so I was happy when a few started popping up in Northern Illinois. They have several menu items that I enjoy, and the menu is huge so you might want to take a look before you head into a location. They are known for their potatoes, sandwiches, and lemonade/tea mixed drink. This particular location has a drive through that currently is only for if you order ahead (either online or via phone), but that is what I do most of the time as the inside can get quite crowded during busy hours. If you are in the mood for dessert, I also love their cheesecake. Employees here are efficient and friendly, I would definitely recommend. read more

Our family has been to McAlister's on several occasions. The restaurant is kid friendly, with high chairs, coloring brochures, and kids menu. The bathrooms have baby changing stations. Busy during grand opening. Online order was smooth. OK... so the ham that we were supposed to make for dinner was expired. Hmmm what to do? Well, I recalled seeing the McAlisters Deli was having their grand opening today. With a little trepidation, I decided to download the iphone app, and get dinner for the family. I downloaded the app, and I was pleased to see that it was pretty easy to customize the sandwiches as we wished. We ordered a couple of French Dips, a couple of Reubens, some kind of Turkey sandwich, and a Caesar Salad. I ordered about 6PM, and they gave me a pickup time of 6:16. I arrived about 6:10, so I was concerned that perhaps the order would not be ready. They were just finishing the last item. Pickup was easy. On to the food. My wife was very pleased with the Reuben. It was huge. I tried a taste of the meat, and it was nice and tender. My son and I both had the French Dip. The bread was excellent. (Baguette). The beef was very good. Nice and tender, and fairly pink, which I prefer. Our only observation was that the Swiss cheese probably could have used a bit of salt. The au jus was tasty too. My granddaughter liked the turkey sandwich, and my daughter was happy with the salad. We got a $5 credit from a coupon we had in the mail, and they gladly took it off the bill. Overall, I was very pleased, especially considering the fact that this was a grand opening visit. We will definitely return. read more

My WIfe and I were SO excited to see a "Deli" going in right by our house. It saves us the trek into West Chicago or Carol Stream to go to Augustino's, or if we're out by her Mother's, Mario's in Addison. But after going there last night, this is a borderline 2 star to 3 star review. I am in agreement with Robert M below. I will explain; 1) When you have "Deli" in your name, one key thing on your menu I am expecting (and what I was looking for last night), were SUBS! A big, 12" or bigger, meat and cheese filled football of goodness. There are only 2 (or maybe 3 items) that remotely resemble a "sub" on the menu, of which, I had one (the french dip, basically what I settled on). 2) I am an extremely picky eater. I HATE vegetables and I dislike most sauces, especially mayo, which makes me want to hurl! Anyway, anything on that menu, I would've had to remove 90% - 95% of the ingredients to make it acceptable to my palate. What is wrong with a SIMPLE FREAKING SAMMICH! I want MEAT and CHEESE! Why does everything need to be do overcomplicated with ingredients? K.I.S.S. 3) Portions. They say on the website "large portions". Maybe for a 10 year old! My French Dip was 3 bites! My side of Mac & Cheese was pretty much an appetizer. Literally one, maybe two scoops of the spoon and it was gone. The one thing that is "green" that I will eat, a pickle, was the size of a pencil that has been sharpened down to practically nothing. Now, with that said, the wait staff was very friendly. At this time (having just opened recently), they have a lot of people there, I would expect that as the newness wears off, staffing levels to go down some. Accepting expired coupons- why doesn't every restaurant- McAlister's does! Some restaurants want the actual clipped out stamp of a coupon for $5 off $25-they can take it- but then I won't be back until another stamp like coupon comes in my mail. Went there tonight and was really disappointed by how dirty every dish used for my food was. I order from Door Dash all the time & have gotten from McAlisters quite often as the food is good! Tonight 3/19/19 I got the turkey Rueben w/potato salad, a broccoli cheddar soup, 2 cookies &. Diet. Food all came as ordered and was good. The cookies however were not their usual standard of yummy.I had a heath & a macadamia nut & both were hard as bricks! Don't know when they made them but they were inedible. Very disappointing as they are normally quite good. Guess everyone has an off day. read more
