This review is for swimming only. I've been coming to this location for over two years on a regular basis to take my 5 year old golden retriever swimming. Every swimmer that she's ever had has been great, especially Darius and Morgan. This review is only pertaining to a swimmer named Jason, whom I'm also told is a supervisor in another dept. I've now had issues with him both times my dog has swam with him. The first time we had let him know that the other swimmers there had come up with a great method to make her rest every once in awhile so she doesn't over-do it (he literally completely ignored us even though I made her stop to re-explain that to him). His overall vibe was rude & it almost felt like he was offended by it. Today, I brought her in to swim (not knowing he was the swimmer today) and decided to give it another shot. This time he literally took the opposite approach and turned it into a training session where he forced her to sit and wait on the platform in between every single dive. She didn't understand his way of "training" her since she's been doing it the same way for two years and if she dove in without his permission, he would literally yell at her and watch her struggle to get back on to the platform (in front of myself and my mom). My mom tried to explain to him that she didn't need to rest every time, but maybe every 5-7 jumps. She also told him that she doesn't respond well to being yelled at. He told my mom that if she jumps in the pool without a diver present, she could drown. Ok, I get that. But he was in the pool with her, she's an expert swimmer, and she's been going there almost weekly for 2 years. He also said that he couldn't believe the other swimmers let her get away with that behavior (which was inappropriate). Even after we asked him to stop yelling at her, he continued to do it and continued to force her to sit in between every single jump. If I had asked him to train her, I would be more understanding. But, I take her there to let loose & have fun because she absolutely loves swimming and I am recovering from brain surgery (which limits how much activity she has). I don't have the ability to exercise her as much as I want. The last thing I expect is a swimmer using it as a training session while yelling at her and reprimanding her the whole time. She associates old Towne Pet Resort with fun & is always super excited when we pull up in the parking lot. Why does Jason feel it is his duty to turn it in to an awful display of how to confuse and instill fear in a dog that is a regular there, experienced in the water, well-behaved, and is only there for fun & exercise? Some dogs don't react well to being yelled at, especially when they have been doing this for two years and don't know what they're doing wrong. It really makes me concerned for the other dogs that are in his care when the owners aren't around. No other trainer there has ever had a problem getting her to listen & sit on the platform when she needed to take a break, which is why we tried to explain to Jason their method. I brought up this issue both times with the manager on duty, and both of them were very nice & understanding. I really hope they re-evaluate scheduling him to be a swimmer there if he cannot control his temper & uses yelling and fear as a training method when customers like myself take my dog there to have fun & get exercise in the pool. Side note.....outside of coming here to swim, my golden is a very mild tempered, well trained service dog and I also volunteer as a foster, so i am very very experienced with training methods. Jason is rude, cold, & takes it upon himself to train with fear & yelling. I'm really hoping management addresses this or I'll have to stop taking my dog here in general. I definitely won't be using any of their services other than swimming knowing he could possibly be left alone with my dog. Every other staff member I've met, including management, has been great. I also totally commend this facility for offering free boarding to dogs being brought up from hurricane affected areas. That's the only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of one. read more

Update: It's been 1-month now since the death of our family K9 at the hands of OTPR. Calypso's bubbly, playful and joyful presence in our home has been painfully missed. Yes, Management did call and offer their sincere apologies, adding, that her sickness and death breaks their hearts, and then added, we did pay the K9 vet emergency room bills, and we don't normally do that; and we did change our policy on how we notify owners going forward; oh, and the State doesn't allow us to do much more, so we apologize again. So, they are saying, we know how you must feel with your lost, but are hands are tied, and there is nothing else we can do, expressing that not feeling our pet in their care wasn't malicious. No, it was NEGLIGENCE! OTPR didn't see in signs of our pet being in distress. I commented to them, you guys are the so called pet experts; you SHOULD HAVE noticed her sudden decline when you saw that she hadn't eaten in 1-day, then 2-days, then 3-days, then 4-days while in your care; and then you send her home to us saying she had a great stay; how cruel. And then we watch her quickly deteriorate to being put to sleep, while I hold her in my hands, while her mother watches in total shock. And then Management says, they are willing to give us a couple hundred dollars more towards the purchase of a new Lhasa Apso or pet of our choosing [a measly couple hundred dollars when a new AFC puppy could cost upwards of $1500 or more; and we paid $800 for our AFC baby when we acquired her 11-years ago], they will contribute a mere $200, wow! We miss our little girl so much; and she still had several healthy years ahead. She was a major part of our family, now she's gone. It's still kinda surreal. When other people are walking their pets by our home, we long for Calypso even more. When my 82-year mother who suffers from dementia & alzheimer walks through the house searching for her little lap friend, and looks even more puzzled, can you imagine how painful that must feel to watch her state of confusion? And yet, my trade-off for my buddy Miss Calypso is I get to have her box of Ashes, and she'll never return; thanks OTPR. I'm still in shock 30-days later because of my decision to leave my little girl, in what I thought was the safest place for the 4-day I went off to another military base, and return, and within days she's hospitalized and then euthanize while I hold her in my arms, feeling her last heartbeat. And OTPR says they are very sorry for our lost, that's all. My daughter, who is away on active duty, serving our country, continues to express her painful grief, and tries desperately to keep focused her the mission at hand, but she's hurting so much, especially, when her baby was 2-3 weeks away from being shipped to her base so they could be together again; now one day soon, I'll ship her little buddy, Miss Calypso's ashes to her (what a trade-off), and all the great memories where she and Miss Calypso went through boyfriends, moving, driving together across country together, and so many more memories, to now, this painful loss of her at the hands of OTPR. And OTPR says, there's nothing else they are willing to do but apologize for our loss; which will never bring her back to us. Don't do what I did... associate big, and beautiful and luxurious with receiving the best care. Because of my choice (and I feel so responsible because I choose OTPR), our family pet and little fury friend is dead, and all we have are her memories of the joy she brought to our lives. And we have anger too because OTPR took her from us because they failed to ensure she ate food for the 4-days she was in their care, and they failed to notice her slipping into depression which resulted in severe intestinal infection, then heavy diarrhea, then vomiting up bio, then death. Maybe management may come back again and dangle a few hundred more dollars towards a replacement of another pet, while we are still grieving her lost, or they may even say their hands are still tied to do more. Nevertheless, I hope other customers think twice before making the painful decision I did and that now forever changed our life and the dynamics of our home. Our little girl, Miss Calypso is gone, she died unnecessarily because of their negligence. Don't be fooled by the 5-stars like I did. read more

Grooming (bathe, trim, teeth brushed) for a 17-year old long-haired white Persian cat. I love this place. My mother, who lives in Maryland, is no longer able to take care of her cat (Babe) so he has become my cat. I needed a good groomer closer to me in Northern Virginia, several were suggested by our new Vet, including Olde Towne Pet Resort. After reading a number of online reviews for several groomers on various websites I decided to try Olde Towne. So happy I did. So much information is available on their website including links to video tours and interviews by local media. After filling out the online form for our first visit I sent several questions via email, it never took long to get a reply. You can even pay an additional $20 if you want expedited service, which meant a grooming visit which took 3 hours or more at other groomers only took 1 hour, and Babe (a white Persian) looked beautiful. He was also very calm when I picked him up so I know he was treated well. From the moment you enter you do feel you are at a very special resort for pets. The lobby is large and very nice with a play area for pets. The entire staff is professional, courteous and obviously want to ensure you and your pet are happy. I don't have a need for anything other than grooming at this point, but they are a full-service resort for dogs and cats offering boarding, day camp, and training. Their prices are fair and reasonable. I definitely recommend Olde Towne Pet Resort. read more

Brought my dog there last week for the first time for boarding and some doggy day camp. The staff was extremely nice, helpful, and genuinely interested in taking care of the dogs there. They also seemed to get along with each other, which was great as well. I think my dog had such a great time, she didn't want to come home! Only downside of course, is the price. But you know the price beforehand, so if you can swallow it, I highly recommend it! read more

Amazing Staff! 2.5 year old intact Belgian Malinois started off in day camp, then went to preferred daily, and now we have boarded him for a week with zero issues. All concerns were followed (male handlers special request) and he came home without missing a beat! The doggie report card is a plus! read more

I have been boarding my various family dogs at the Springfield location for over ten years. I currently have two finicky Frenchies who absolutely love this place and its staff!! They have stayed for long weekends, and for as long as two weeks several times in the past two years. They literally start happily jumping around in the car each time I pull into the parking lot. They are always clean and happy when I pick them up. That is the best test for this place.....my doggies LOVE it!! As for me, I can't say enough good things about the kindness, attentiveness, and professionalism of the staff. They call me immediately if they see anything unusual going on with the dogs. Plus, you can watch your pooch 24/7 on the webcams! It is simply THE BEST kennel ever!! Can't imagine ever going elsewhere. read more

The staff turnover is absolutely absurd, and no one seems happy to be working here. There is constantly issues with my dogs and he comes home from daycare with multiple scars with no explanation. They fire staff over ridiculous reasons and hire more incompetent teenagers who do not care for these animals. I used to love this place, but since the change of management, I am no longer comfortable leaving a member of my family here. read more

I URGE ALL PET OWNERS NEVER TO TAKE YOUR DOG HERE!!!!!!! If i could give Old Towne Pet Resort a negative -100 score I would. If you care about your dog do NOT board them here!!!! This was hands down the worst experience i have ever had boarding, verging on nightmare experience. I brought my 2 medium sized dogs here to be boarded for 3 nights. When I came to pick them up, the manager took me aside and said there was an issue with one of my dogs, although they had never called me to even notify me about it. She was very secretive about what had happened and seemed like they completely lied about knocked one of the automatic waterers off the wall, that is bolted to the wall, and landed on one of their paws. They had my one dog off in the office with someone. Her paw was swollen to 3 times its normal size. She could not walk on it and just held it up. They not only did not bother to call me and notify me, but they didn't call or take her to my vet or any vet for that matter. All they gave her was asprin. This was clearly painful and what I would consider animal cruelty!!! We left there very quickly and took her directly to an emergency vet for an exam, x-rays and pain meds. It turned out that there were no broken bones but it was a soft tissue injury with a cut between her toes. The emergency vet visit was $350 and she had to go to the vet every week for the following 5 weeks for them to make sure it was healing properly, since the cut was i such a strange place, totaling $600. Also one of her toe nails turned purple and fell out. I called back and talked to the General Manager, they still stuck to their story and didn't seem to think that they had done anything wrong. I'm not sure how something that is supposed to be a permanent fixture could be knocked down from a medium sized dog, when they clearly have larger dogs there with no issue. My vet agreed that the injury did not seem to be consistent with what they said had happened. I told the general manger that they neglected my dog and caused her much much more pain because of that. I finally after months of calls got them to reimburse me but only the emergency vet, after letting them know that I was contacting an attorney. The only place I will take my dogs now is Seneca Hills Animal Hospital and Resort. It is more $$$$ but worth it. I have only had positive experiences there, and not enough good things to say about them My dogs always come home clean, happy and tired from lots of play. read more

The manager called me this weekend to address my "incident". It's funny how it wasn't addressed immediately after it happened but only after my yelp review went up. Yes, it was endearing that the manager called me to apologize for the mishap, but the fact that she called only after my yelp review was posted and asked me if I could update or remove my yelp review takes all that away. I'm sorry Olde Towne Pet resort, I would rather pay $$$$, maybe thousands of dollars before I send my dog to you. Your customer service still seems superficial. I assume that If I didn't post a yelp review, you would have just brushed me off. The power of online review's I guess. Very sad that they do not get the big picture here though. Do not be deceived by the facilities, their service is mediocre and careless. My dog was returned after boarding for 8 days, limping from an injury that occurred while on their care and was "unnoticed" by their staff. The quality, trustfulness and care for the pets is questionable. My concerns began as it took the receptionist three calls and to finally send somebody to personally get my dog (took about 20 mins) while other customers who came after me received their dogs expeditiously. Then as I walked my dog to our car I noticed he was limping. The first reaction from the person sent to check the dog was to doubt my dog was limping at all and question my statement as it was not noted on my dog's boarding notes. I had to walk the dog outside and show him the limp in order to confirm there was an injury, but he then proceeded to give me a prognosis of a "fake limp" and down play the injury as my dog was limping with every other step. It was not until I said that I wanted to see the manager that he then decided to check my dog's legs and paws. I understand accidents happen but the way it was handled make me question the care my dog received while it was boarded at Olde Towne Pet Resort. I should have not been the first person to notice the injury. Second, the dog should have been examined once the concern was expressed instead of quibbling and second guessing my judgement. Third, someone should ensure the shortcoming will be addressed and that it will never happen again. None of these actions took place. I am extremely disappointed as I expected quality service from this business and instead my dog had to endure mediocrity and carelessness. I wish I would have read their reviews prior to booking and will never use OTPR services again. read more

OTPR is the only boarding facility I've ever felt 100% comfortable leaving my dogs at. While it is pricey, the facility is clean and spacious, there is someone on site 24 hrs a day and there are a variety of add on activities. My dog is not suited for open boarding or doggie daycare, so I really appreciate that she can have solo agility training to keep her busy while she's there. Sometimes because it is a large, busy facility check in can be a little slow, but that's really just a slight inconvenience in the scheme of things. The staff is friendly, I never feel sad or guilty leaving here there and Ivy seems happy and calm when I pick her up. read more

Pros: Great place. Great swimming pool, daycamp is great too with web cams available. Great staff: Cons: Poor management: Dog got bitten in daycamp and was treated in a way from the general manager that because my dog was a pit bull it was his fault. All other staff are nice and courteous. I was really annoyed at the GM trying to spin the fact that Oden was being aggressive however, from the one of the guys on the daycare staff told me Oden specifically chewing his toy and the German Shepard attacked him and bit a hole right in in his side. This is not the first time that Oden has had blood marks. The first time I did not noticed until I got home and Oden had scratches and a lesion right below his eye. I was told that because the dogs were going home some of the dogs got excited and probably scratched his however, Oden is an 80lb APBT, so I am not sure how this happened. When picking him up for the day when they did give report cards daily, the report card stated the normal Oden compliments and love. The staff love Oden and its such a shame I had to remove him of OTPR. I wish the day care staff had much more training and supervision and special attention to all the dogs instead of just watching the clock and hoping the dogs will sleep. For other dog owners in the future this should be a demand, because they are on camera. read more

When I made the initial phone call to see how much it would cost to board my 2 dogs for 3 nights they gave me a price and told me it was booked and I gave them a deposit over the phone. Upon arrival and dropping my dogs off it took well over an hour for check-in to determine which type of rooms we would like and they gave us a different price assuming we wanted bigger rooms for our dogs even after I had already discussed all of this when I booked over the phone. It was as if nothing was written down under our account from my phone conversation. They also told us then that when they stay for 3 nights or longer there is a required spa bath for $50 per dog and that was WITH a discount. After we spent a very long period of time at the front desk discussing the details above (greater than 45 mins) we were taken to another room where our dogs were inspected and another employee went over which type of dog food we brought to feed our dogs and which type of medications were added. Mind you it was fish oil and a joint supplement we give to our older dog which I had already separated into the zip lock bags of dog food that I had labeled with each dogs name and written the day and whether it was for the morning or night so literally all they had to do was give each dog their labeled bag of dog food for that day and dump it in their bowl. Today when we picked our dogs up we were charged over $400 (our dogs were in the smallest rooms they had because we couldn't bring ourselves to pay even more money than we were paying for our own hotel room that was slopeside for the weekend) and then we look at the itemized bill and there was a charge for medications! This was not explained to us at time of drop off when we were discussing the "medications" that are really just vitamins. After inquiring about this they explain that they charge extra for administering medications because they have to make sure it doesn't get mixed up and another dog gets something they're not supposed to have. Now I'm confused. To my knowledge my dogs are fed in their kennels not near other dogs where things could be mixed up. And when we were escorted back to drop our dogs off to see where they would be staying they put our food in a little holder on the outside of the kennel door so I'm very confused how it would ever get mixed up with another dogs food. And whoever was the person feeding them would have never had to even take meds out of the jar and add it to the food because we already had them mixed in the food. After going through this and explaining how ridiculous it is that we're getting nickel and dimed at a place where we're already paying over $400 they decide to refund us the medication charge. We take the dogs and belongings to the car she said she would walk out the refund receipt to us. After she hands it to us and walks back inside we realize they didn't refund us the whole cost of medication administration but $2.20 less than what we should have been refunded for. Talk about being nickel and dimed. Absolutely NEVER bringing my dogs there again. I'm positive for the money I paid I can find a better place. They do all the small things like send you home with a report card and tell you how your dog did to make you feel like you're getting the best care but it absolutely cannot make up for all the other shortcomings. read more

My prissy, very self-centered, perfectly groomed miniature brown poodle is very judgemental; until you let him loose to play with a swarm of other sweet creatures in day play. He invented the phrase "run free"; though it's likely the patient staff at the Pet Resort helped him to accept who he is - a happy, social, playful doggie. Thanks everyone there! I took my pup to OTPR for boarding. I was planning to leave him for 3 days, but we were stuck in traffic trying to return home and navigation said we would arrive at 4:10 pm on Sunday. OTPR closes at 4:00 on Sundays, so I called to inform them and find out my options for pickup. I was told that there would be a $100 after hours pickup charge. I decided to leave my pup there since the nightly rate for boarding was $41.25. I couldn't see paying $100 fee for being there 10 minutes after 4 when they say that they have staff there 24 hours per day. My husband picked him up the following day and I saw that we were charged $25.00 extra on our bill. Bill states 1/2 day rate....but we didn't have any half days. I called the location and their explanation was that if you pick up after 12 noon, there is a 1/2 day charge. I have boarded here before and picked up after 12 (picked up in the evening) and did not incur this charge. No-one made me aware that this charge existed during booking reservation, at drop-off, nor when I called to change my reservation. Now I am being told that it is in their policy, but I was not given this policy. When I explained these things to Mari, she said they could issue a credit to my account for future use. I don't appreciate being charged for items that haven't been mentioned to me in advance. It seems that they arbitrarily charge customers and then when it's questioned...they say it's in the policy. How will customers know what's in your policy if you don't provide it to them? Poor customer service. I will not be returning for boarding, grooming, or swimming. I will go to a service provider with integrity and good customer service. read more

I received a message from the Pet Resort manager apologizing for our experience and offering a refund - a very kind gesture (that I will NOT be taking her up on). That being said, obviously the management here wants to make customers happy, which is a great thing...but I still just don't think this place is a good fit for my big, high-energy guy. read more

Terrible, horrible, miserable place! To start when making my reservation I was hung up on twice (not like a phone cut out, but put on hold for over 5 minutes and then having the line go dead). Once I got my reservation she refused to quote me a total price saying sometimes it's different when you check out - I should have realized what I was getting into then! My dogs were to be in "daycare" while there. I try to check up on them to see how they are doing on the webcam and find that one of my dogs is missing! I figure have it wrong - there are 40 dogs in a room about 8 feet by 15 feet (reminds me of the feeder fish tank at the pet store). The guy in there "supervising" them is trying to walk though them, but continually has to knee the dogs to get past them. He had no problem squirting every dog in the face with his spray bottle, but never once did I see him play with or even pet a dog. I check the other cameras to see empty unused rooms, but my dog is nowhere. I call and am told I will be called back - 2 hours later they call and they inform me that my dog had been trying to get out of the room every time someone opened the door (who would suspect a dog might try to do that!) so he will be spending the next 4 days in a 2x3 crate! I have a very active dog and that will torture him! Oh, and by the way your other dog has been removed as well. I am told to call the front desk to see what I can do. I call and am told that my dogs appear to be under extreme stress there. That one of my dogs has snarled and lunged at a handler. This is an adopted dog - been with me for 3 1/2 years and been to the dog park over 500 times. His previous owners beat him. Never once in his life has he snarled at anyone! If he's under more stress there than in an abusive home???!!!??? I am then give my "options" . I am told they can be moved to a room for 2 nights and then back into the crates due to lack of space. The room has the same footprint as the crates, but they will be together and have the abilty to play. I am also offered a $250 a night room! 250 a night for a concrete floored jail cell sized room?!? I don't know about you, but I stay in nice hotels and have never paid that much! I work it out with her and she is willing to give me an exact total that I will pay. I can't deal with knowing they are locked in a crate with no excercise so I fly home early to pick them up. At this time I am given a report card saying they are such good dogs and had so much fun. Fun locked in a cell without excercise or a chance to run outside?? I don't think so. I am then overcharged by over $150. They claim to have moved my dogs to a bigger cell - without asking or telling me. Honestly, for all I know they never even left the 2x3 crates. No way to prove what services they receive while there, or even where they stay. Very frustrating. I like to relax on vacation. Not have to change my flight, come home early, stress about my dogs, and then get slapped in the ace with extra charges for a miserable time. Lots of better places. I board my dogs typically 6 times a year and they always come home happy and tired. I wouldn't consider taking my dogs back to this place though. read more

This review is for cat boarding in the OTPR cattery. I gave three stars for the facility. I love the location, the cattery, the care, and a webcam (although there is only one from a basic angle). The issue I am having is the price. Lately I have had some unexpected work travel and while I boarded my two cats at OTPR in the past for vacations, I just cant seem to justify their prices based on surrounding competition. I recently started taking my cats to another reputable cat boarding facility in Alexandria, and they are 50% less than OTPR and they get a larger cat condo. I guess I wish OTPR would instill maybe an "upgrade" system if you board 2 pets or something a little extra. Paying $40/per cat for a condo without a window view is just not within my budget especially when I just paying for more aesthetics. Definitely do your research, there are other great cat boarding facilities that have been cheaper- especially if you only need to board them for a few days. read more

This review is for the swimming only. Our 12 year old GSD has DM so her back legs are slowly failing her. Swimming is really the only way for her to get some exercise and keep her on her feet for as long as possible. We've taken her three times now and are continuing twice a week appointments. The staff that swims with her are incredibly kind and patient with her. They listen to us as we talk about the our dog's needs and hold her tightly to give her a rest when she needs it. Swimming has made a huge difference in our dog's health. read more

I boarded my dogs here for one night, it was their first time being boarded and they were almost as anxious as me! I got them a room with a camera and watched them almost all night - almost defeated the purpose of boarding them. I was pleased to see that the staff took them out many times and for long periods of time. The staff is very friendly and seem to really care about the dogs. I'm especially happy that the dogs have outdoor access to eliminate. I brought some bedding from home to make them more comfortable and the puppy peed on both their blanket and their bed. The staff washed their bed and delivered it to our apartment 14 miles away later that day. I thought that was pretty exceptional. It's a big facility with a big store that I didn't allow the pups to browse in but my hubby said they have lots of cool looking toys/treats that he hadn't seen elsewhere. I might take them for a swim here one day. My only caution is that you ask them directly how much your visit will cost. It's expensive but if you can afford it I think this is the best place to board. read more

When I took Nismo again to swim a different guy swam with him, and was much more knowledgeable about everything. He pointed out that maybe the first time the reason Nismo had been stressed was because he hadn't had a vest put on which is supposed to happen (I wasn't aware of this since it was my first time going previously). When I tried to walk into the pool area this time Nismo put on the brakes. He had no interest, started showing signs of stress (panting, tucked his tail, whining some). This guy said he would give Nismo a shot in the pool, but it was short lived as everyone recognized that Nismo wasn't enjoying himself at all. It is a shame, because Nismo loves the lake and creeks. read more

I was skeptical at first at the idea of a "pet resort," but I've been won over. We left our Poo-Chon puppy at OTPR for a weekend away, and had positive experiences throughout. From reception and check-in through to pick-up, we were confident our pup was in good hands. We got a suite with the petcam, and were able to look in on her from our smart phones at any time. We arranged for her to be groomed, and almost didn't recognize her when we picked her up. The groomer did a wonderful job. The staff weer helpful and friendly, and it was easy to see that the folks working there love animals. Next time we head out of town, we'll be using OTPR's fine services again. read more

This place is WAY overpriced and their restrictive policies and add-on fees make it really difficult to be a client. My dog comes back from boarding totally stressed out and exhausted, and for days he won't even look at us. Nothing bad has happened to him, and he's never gotten sick or hurt in their care, but at their prices, I wish I could say something better than "nothing bad happened." Edited to add: by restrictive policies, I am not referring to vaccination policies. We will not be taking our dogs back to the Olde Town Pet Resort. At, a painful, $120 per night we expected an excellent experience but that was not the case. My husband had to wait a long time when he picked them up. What makes it worse is they lied about the reason for the delay. First he was told they were getting their morning walks (at 8:30 in the AM). This turned out to be false because our larger dog peed in the lobby, in the parking lot AND in our car, which she never does. She also had a very full bathroom break when I took her out a few hours later. She obviously had not been allowed to relieve herself that morning. Than he was told they were late because the staff had forgotten to give our 12 year old dog her morning joint supplement. This was particularly troubling because we took time to add her joint supplement to her food and put each meal in separate zip lock baggies. All they had to do was give her the morning meal. By the way, be careful, they charged us for giving her the supplement, which they called a "medication", to justify the daily charge, even though they only had to put her food in her dish. They also tried to justify the charge by saying they had to make sure no other dog got "hold" of her supplement. This is a ridiculous argument because our dogs are fed in their cages, away from other animals. The mandatory $50 grooming seemed to be only a bath. We saw no evidence of hair trimming, ear cleaning or nail trimming. This seems like highway robbery. Please carefully read and consider the reviews of other before you decide to use this facility. It is very expensive, there is evidence our dogs did not get services we paid for, and they added unnecessary/unreasonable additional charges. In the end, we feel cheated! read more

I heard about OTPR from my friend Ashley who works there. I was hesitant about bringing my dog Lola because she's usually not great around other dogs. But I brought Lola there for the second time this past weekend and I have to say I've never been more comfortable to leave my dog somewhere. She's done great in dog day camp and I can already see improvements in her socialization skills with other dogs. The entire staff is amazing with her and they spoil her rotten. Ashley always helps me schedule Lola's time there and always makes sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck. She's also been really understanding and flexible when my pickup times or drop off times change last minute. Lola will be coming back for many more visits because there is no other place or people I trust with my little baby! read more

Never again will we ever leave our pup at Olde Towne Pet Resort. She went to day care at the Dulles facility from when they opened in Oct 11 until Jan 27, 2012. After two separate incidents 7 days apart, we are done with them! The first incident happened on Jan 13, 2012. My husband was at home (on bed rest) watching our pup on the web cams. The software they use allows for snapshots to be taken, and he was taking pictures of our pup playing with her friends. He noticed one of the employees chasing our pup around the room spraying her with water because she was playing with the other pups. At one point she walked over to another dog and the employee PICKED OUR DOG UP BY THE EAR, HER TWO FRONT FEET OFF THE GROUND, AND MOVED HER OVER ANOTHER DOG OFF THE PLAY EQUIPMENT! Totally unacceptable behavior and when we confronted them about it upon pick up of our dog, they explained it looked worse than it really was. Needless to say we found out it had actually happened TWICE that day, with a different employee. We were slated to leave our pup there the following weekend and were assured they had addressed the problem and the employees and the problem would never happen again. On Thursday January 26, we dropped our pup off for an over night stay. She was in daycare again and we were vigilantly watching her from the web cams when we could. At 5 pm she was put in her "suite" for the night, maybe got two walks (as we paid for and were promised 4) and we again watched her all night when we could. The next morning she was supposed to go into daycare. We checked the web cams around 7, noticed she wasn't in there, and trusted that she was at daycare. We would be picking her up soon anyway so we thought we had nothing to worry about. Boy, were we wrong. Upon pick up, the employee behind the counter noticed we had not been charged for daycare for either Thursday or Friday. We knew she had been in on Thursday however where had she been all day Friday if not in daycare??? The employee checked with another employee who said "yes, she was supposed to be in daycare" but was never taken over. So essentially, our pup was in her "suite" from 5 pm Thursday night until we picked her up at 2:30 pm on Friday afternoon. MULTIPLE employees at that location knew she was supposed to be in daycare as we had spoken to them the day before we dropped her off, they day we dropped her off and a week before when we made the reservation. When we left we were told we'd get a free daycare visit for the next time she came to daycare. We took her and left, mortified that she had been in her "suite" for almost 24 hours. After numerous calls to the manager and general manager, we did end up getting a full refund for our overnight stay and the one day of daycare she attended, however the manager was not very apologetic in regards to our forgotten pup and when she did finally agree to a refund, she asked if we wanted to put the credit on our dog's account. Really? There's no way in hell we'd go back to that horrendous place. read more

As an update, just received a call this evening from the General Manager, who apparently saw this Yelp review. She was very understanding and apologetic about our experience and assured us this is not the norm for their business. She helped to remedy the situation and we are satisfied. So many reasons to 5-star Olde Towne Pet Resort! First, the treatment they give pets while being kenneled is just superb. On one stay, I opted to put our 13+ year old dog in a room with a pet cam since he had started experiencing separation anxiety. I knew what was going on when we left him at home for a few hours, but I wanted to see what he did in a kennel. Not only did I find out what anxiety patterns he experienced, I was able to see first hand just how the staff at OTPR handle pets who are stressed. They get down to his level (dachshund so it's literally on the floor!) and love on him and rub his ears. He's going blind so they make sure he knows where the water bowl is, and where his bed is, and if he gets, and drops, a treat, where to get it. I could see they are talking to him the entire time, because his talk was wagging. Such comforting reassurance for an anxious owner. On his last stay while we were out of town, he actually had a medical emergency and had to be taken to a 24-hour vet--twice in 2 days. They relayed the information by phone to us and assured us they were taking care of him like they would care for their own pets. I was able to talk several times to staff who gave me precise information on the treatment he was getting. After I picked him up, there was a mix-up in charges from the emergency vet -- I actually had paid the vet a down payment for the surgery, but that was not reflected on the OTPR bill, so I paid "twice". When I brought the error to OTPR attention, they could not have been nicer or quicker to rectify the error. I know some folks have said the prices are high for boarding. It's true, the price is more than, for example, boarding my pet at my vet. But at my vet, there is no one around after 8:00 pm and before 7:00 am. And they have minimal staff come in on the weekends only to feed and walk their boarders. So, I'm happy to pay a little more and be assured that someone is watching over my dog like I do when he's at home! OTPR, you've earned 5 stars in my book! I'm a BIG fan and will be boarding my current dog and any future pets with you when we travel. read more

My little princess usually came home stressed and panting from being boarded at other facilities, not so at Olde Towne. The lobby of this place looks and smells a lot better than at some hotels I have stayed in. My dog has stayed here several times and has always come home stress-free. The facilities are amazing-a pool, play areas, several ranges of "suites". The price difference of the suites is due to size, # of walks and play times and window or no-window. We have also used the doggie day camp which she loves. There are always staff on hand in the doggie day camp to ensure safe play. It is a bit more pricey than your run of the mill kennel, but worth every penny. read more

My first review here so I will try to be brief. I was not totally happy with my dog's stay there. I was not totally unhappy either. I really would like to give them 2.5 out of 5. They did not harm him but they did not go overboard in taking care of him for almost $100 a night. I had to call and request adjustments to his care, based on what I was seeing on the web cam, things that they should have caught and made the proper adjustments since they were paid to care for him. But, he was at least kept safe while I was gone. That is a big plus! I do not know if he got his 4 walks and 2 play times, I never saw that on the web cam but then again I was not just watching him the entire time. But when I called to inquire about it, I was brushed off. It is an ok place, if I am in a crunch I may use them again since my dog now knows that when he goes there, I am coming back and since he was not harmed while there But I am still looking for that perfect place for my dog to stay while we are away. read more

i take my dog to the Springfield/Newington location mostly for occasional daytime daycare/ play with other dogs. The front desk and staff in the large dog daycare are outstanding. Luckily I am able to check on him via the webcam numerous times a day and he appears fine, but he's always happy to see me. The overnight boarding experience is iffy for me. I had my dog in a luxury suite, with webcam, and gave specific instructions about feeding (he has bad allergies) as well as a walking schedule after day camp. Unfortunately they did not follow directions about feeding, and actually gave my dog a different dog's treats. No big deal........but my dog has severe allergies! I emailed the manager twice after being requested to rate the experience, but received no response. At $150 a night (suite,daycare, and extra walk) I expected a reply. As a result I make other arrangements now for my dog when we are out of town. The takeaway from this review is that you just can't be guaranteed that they will follow instructions. i feel horrible for those poor dogs in the kennels/crates the whole time. The facility is clean, though, and I believe the staff does a good job at trying to do the best they can. Again, daycare is great. That staff rocks! Overall I'm a fan. If you are leaving your dog in a kennel there please have the dog go to day camp during the day. read more

If you want your dog treated better than he/she is at home, take him here. It's not the cheapest kennel, but their care and concern for your dogs makes it worth it. I have left my 12 and 13 yr old dogs at both locations and have had a great experience at both. The check in process is thorough so don't try to cut your drop off/airport departure too close. read more

This review is for boarding a cat at OTPR. We've taken our lovable cat to OTPR about 5 times for stays of 4-6 days. The place is clean and well managed. The facility is designed to appeal to pet owners, and pets too. The people are very friendly and take good care of kitty. Being a friendly cat, he gets the run of the cattery. They know our cat well and recognize him immediately. (From their positive comments, maybe they should pay us to have our cat there!) When we arrive for pickup, he sometimes seems to want to stay. That seems like a vote of confidence! The only detractors are the location (not terribly convenient to us) and the cost (but you get what you pay for). They even offer a "delivery" service if you can't pickup your pet. read more

My dog goes to daycare here occasionally and after trying out other daycares in the area this is the one that works the absolute best for us. Dogs are divided into small and large dog play groups without toys mostly. Since I have a small dog with some sharing issues, this set up is really good for her, she can socialize without the anxiety of resource guarding. The dogs have the ability to access an outdoor play area intermittently throughout the day, which is also awesome since I have a dog that will try to hold it all day at a daycare without an outdoor elimination option. Another good thing about this daycare is that there are multiple attendants in each daycare room throughout the day and webcams so you can feel comfortable seeing how your dog is doing and knowing there is someone there to address any needs that might arise. read more

I was recommended OTPR by my dog's orthopedic specialist for the use of the pool. My dog seems very excited to come here and swim, and loves all 3 swim instructors that he's worked with. They listen to my worries about his handful of orthopedic problems, and make sure he's having fun in the safest manner for him. My other dog comes here for daycare and she is always very excited to come... And exhausted when she leaves :). Should I have to board my two dogs, I'll definitely be using OTPR because I know they'll take great care of my kids. :) they offer many different kennel sizes and amenities, which is nice. read more

Very disappointed in both care and grooming. I expected more from them. After being a faithful customer for 3 years I will never take my pet there again. After being groomed my Bischon came back injured. I asked the manager about it and he said that my dog was "fussy". Don't hurt my dog. Just don't groom him read more

Just went in for grooming. The groomer did a fine job. However, the front desk staff was TERRIBLE! They were so unhelpful, rude and blatantly disrespectful. I have never had SUCH a bad experience with customer service. Bitter, hateful people like the ones who work at Olde Town Pet Resort have no business working in customer service. I have been a loyal customer of OTPR for 2 years now and I have had SEVERAL problems with this place. I think enough is enough! Word to the wise, do yourself a favor and find another place for grooming, boarding and day care. This place is a HEADACHE! read more

I'm going to downgrade my original review from 4 to 3 stars based on a 3 night stay my dog had here last week. We paid for a $100 room with a window, 4 walks and 2 playtimes for each day. Instead on the 1st night and day I looked in at my dog, she was in this large cell and she never moved from the door. In addition to there not being a window in her room, each time I looked at her, she was in the same place in the cell, never being taken out and never in the play room. I called and questioned this and she was moved but I'm convinced if I had not said anything, I was have been charged the rate for the window room and multiple walks/playtimes while she was in the lower priced room. I was given $5 off when I picked up my dog. read more
