I've only been to Louisiana a couple times to visit family. But hands down the best po boy I've ever had! I got the gator po boy special, really fresh bread and big chunks of fresh gator. It's a little small for seating during lunch but the food makes up for it all. Very friendly service also. I definitely will make it a point to come here anytime I come visit from Texas. read more

First time customer, I ordered 2 large shrimp Poboys and got a free fry for Friday UL student. The sandwiches were delicious, I will definitely come back again for them. I since moved to Broussard and suggested to Glenn another store. Glenn delivered with BJ Poboys in Broussard and added onion rings to the menu. One of the coolest little places in Lafayette for a quick sandwich! Love the shrimp po-boys as well as the BBQ Beef. I would give five stars, except at my last visit, I watched as they fixed the sandwiches without gloves, and proceeded to touch other items in the back which grossed me out a little. I went to Old Thyme yesterday like I do at least once a week and ordered what I always order. They are a cash only buisness but have a machine that you can swipe your card, withdrawal money like it's an atm machine except instead of giving you the money it prints you a reciept. You take the reciept to the check out and it gives you the change. Today I realized that it charged my account twice. I brought the owner proof and she refused to help me. Her employees treated me as if I was trying to swindle them. I even let the owner speak to my bank. I would think that a small local buisness would treat thier customers better than this. I will never go here again. I live in the same neighborhood that they are in and send them customers every chance I get. I will never suggest to anyone again to eat there. I don't suggest that you do either because they will do the same to you. read more

I moved to New Orleans from Lafayette over 2 years ago. During my time in New Orleans, I have had a hard time finding a suitable substitute for Olde Tyme. Everything about an Olde Tyme poboy screams heavenly perfection. The batter on the shrimp has the right amount of crunch and they use fresh, soft french bread from a local bakery (Lnglinais Bakery, I believe). It's one of the places that I have to go to when I am passing through. My recommendations, The Shrimp Poboy with American Cheese, The Meatball with Provolone, The Sausage with Pepper Jack and for the brave, The Olde Tyme Special. WARNING! The Olde Tyme Special foot long has over a pound of meat on it. It's delicious and extremely filling. GOOD LUCK!! read more

Exactly how I imagined a good poboy to taste! Charming little place, mom & pop feel. Unpretentious. We ordered one shrimp poboy and an oyster one. The shrimp was fresh, and had it's own unique coating. The oyster was fantastic too! The bread was chewy and perfect. The seafood tasted fresh. Their food is typical lunch counter fare for New Orleans, definitely not worth all the hype or hassle. In order to get a sandwich, one has to stand in a long line (often stretching out into the sun) to order, stand in another line to pay, and then stand around an wait 20 minutes for your food. The whole process takes place in a 20x20 very crowded and noisy space. Once food is procured, one must fight and push to find a dirty table with little provisions. God forbid they get your order wrong as they did mine (paid for a whole sandwich, received half of one). Then you get the joy of repeating the whole process, dealing with obviously overwhelmed staff who act they just do not believe something could have gone with their wonderful system. Or maybe the employees are just as over this place as I am. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. The food, the people, the atmosphere. ALL OF IT! I got half of a meatball po boy and man it was huge! It was delicious. The best po'boy I've had in the South hands down. All those people that told me the best po'boys are in New Orleans are horribly misinformed. This place is super efficient and I'm guessing perpetually busy (located across from a university and next door to a police station). We didn't know what to get so we told the guy behind the counter to order us his favorite po'boy. And he didn't disappoint. If he happens to be reading this, I'm going to come back and marry you. We had a shrimp/oyster po'boy combo, and, seeing that we were going to share, he kindly had the kitchen mix it up so that we wouldn't have to take apart the sandwich.
