Wow. Thats the best Meatball sandwich I have ever had and I've been to almost all 50 states. Service was fantastic and friendly. Speedy and fresh. Highly recommend this place to everyone. More dining room than I realized. Kept clean

Tip: Cash only Pro-tip: When multiple people recommend the shrimp poboy, get the shrimp poboy. We ordered a full shrimp poboy and a full weekly special, The Cuban. The shrimp poboy was a perfect bread-to-shrimp ratio; the shrimp were hot and crunchy contrasting with the fresh bread. The Cuban was good with big chunks of pork roast and a nice amount of sliced ham, pickles, and the fresh bread. Lucky for me, my dinner companion exchanged half of their shrimp poboy for half of my Cuban poboy. A very good selection is available. Enjoy!

In Lafayette for a few days, came across this place on YELP and had lunch there today. Be prepared to stand in line, but it will be worth the wait. My wife had the shrimp, and I had pastrami. If you are visiting this area this is a must!

Stopped in town for a volleyball tournament and toured the school campus. It was a half mile walk from the campus and we enjoyed the stroll through the tree lines streets to get there. It's an older establishment with a great outdoor space. They specialize in sandwich poboys. You order at the counter of an older smaller grocery and they bring your food to you whether you are sitting in their great outdoor space or in the restaurant seating. The boys on the volleyball team enjoyed the outdoor space and the life size chess board. Fun little establishment to visit on the weekend if you are in the area. They had a live band starting up as we were leaving.

I feel Lafayette is such a nice place with lovely folks. This was our first food stop during our visit. The ladies instantly were polite and really helpful while deciding what to order. We went ahead with the Old Tyme Special and the Shrimp. Personally I would love the Shrimp again. Great crispiness to them. Nothing was over powering. Great with the hot sauce on top. The Old Tyme Special is a no-go for me. It was honestly like slimmy to me. The fries have a great flavor to them. I'd recommend splitting them.

My family stopped here on our way to New Orleans and heard that you had to get the shrimp po boy. Needless to say, it was delicious! Inside is a cozy grocery with seating in the back. You order at the counter and wait. Service was fast and the people were very nice. Shrimp alone was fried and breaded just right. Together with the other items in the po boy it was a good match. Parking is in front or in the lot across the street.

SWAMP. FRIES. crispy fried potato wedges smothered in crawfish queso. I recommend eating it there while it's hot. Yum. The po'boys are also delicious, we had one pastrami and one oyster. Very good and the bread is fabulous. There's way more dining space inside and out than it looks. Worth the stop!

The food was great! Portions are huge! Original steak fries & fresh bread! The place is small so very busy but still a nice spot to grab a sandwich. The setting is chaotic & loud but I think it's suppose to be this way! We had guests from out of state so wanted them to experience this staple of Lafayette! Yes I recommend this place but I advise you to know your order ahead of time

Y'all, I just can't say enough positive things about Olde Tyme! This place has been a staple in my heart since I was little, and every time I go back it just continues to get better. The ambiance, the people, the food - it's all a 10/10. I also LOVE how they have seasonal specials to include any sort of specialty seafood or offering. Don't miss out - HAS to be on the list when you're in Lafayette.

These Po-boys are TOPS!!!! I have not lived in LA for many years, so when I visit I search for delicious po-boys. All the locals I spoke with recommended me to Olde Tyme Grocery. I loved it so much I ate there 2 days in a row, and would have been more had my trip been longer. TOPS! Friendly staff too!

We had chicken and sausage gumbo, Pepper Jack boudin balls, bam bam gator bites and the blackened chicken pasta. The waiter this time was better than the waitress we had last time. He was very attentive and made sure we never had to ask for refills. The appetizers came out fairly normal time-wise I would say. The main portion took a little bit longer than what you're used to at a franchise restaurant but here that's perfectly fine as it's worth the couple extra minutes. The gumbo is perfect(I love when gumbo is not over complicated) I like to add a lil hot sauce to it and it's delicious... only thing is, while they already give generous portions... the cup and the bowl looked exactly the same except I think in the bowl they give you one extra scoop of rice... which would be just fine if it wasn't like $6 more. But still delicious nonetheless. The bam bam gator bites were really good and I highly recommend them. If you like bam bam shrimp you'll love these. The pepper jack boudin balls were good, nothing special but they were definitely worth the try. My co-worker had the blackened chicken pasta and when I asked him how it was he said "dude, it's really good!" lol. The building is pretty unique and they have some outside seating with a massive beautiful tree that over looks the restaurant and takes claim to some of the asphalt in the parking lot lol. But it's a great spot for birthdays, good lunch menu deals, casual date night or if you wanna blow some steam off, they have a little bar in the restaurant as well. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend. I'm from East Texas, so I'm no Cajun/Louisianan but they truly got some good grub here. I'll definitely be coming back several more times when I get the chances. I will warn you, I believe the food is freshly made so when it gets to the table, give it some time to cool off because it comes out HOT.

Or that they argued with the amazing manager for nearly an hour total after being told they couldn't accommodate that size party. They're also leaving out the part where people from their group marched in and seated themselves, stood over occupied tables waiting for guests to leave, insisting the hosts clean the tables, and made the entire restaurant uncomfortable. This had nothing to do with race and everything to do with behavior. Any group acting like that would've gotten the exact same response. In short, do better. Y'all came in and ruined everyone's dinner because y'all don't know how to plan ahead. Stop blaming people for your mistakes and take accountability.

This may have been part of the reason its wasn't all that busy on a Tuesday lunch. Similar to some other restaurants in Louisiana I've visited, they have a side with a bar, to-go area and high tops, and a more family oriented side of the restaurant with a bunch of low top tables. Fried pork rinds are served with every table. They have daily plate lunches and the one day I came it was chicken fried steak. However, it's not usually a good idea to order CFS outside of Texas in my experience. Therefore, I ended up ordering the catfish and shrimp platter, served grilled instead and added a $5 strawberry margarita. The entree comes with a side salad but they only have seelct dressings and none which I would typically order, so i just settled on honey mustard. Margarita- for only $5 it's not bad and comes with either sugar or salt rim Catfish and shrimp platter - seasoned with a blackened seasoning but it wasn't spicy. The catfish filet was small and tasted like it was previously frozen. The shrimp were also small and didn't taste much better. Not sure I'd return if ever in Lafayette, as I was really looking for a more festive environment and more grilled options.

Everything we tried was solid, and it's the kind of place where you already know you're leaving happy before you even order. Service: Service was smooth with no issues at all. Vermilionville, however, stood out as one of the best, and is a memory I'll hang onto for a while. The attendants in period garb were friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer our questions. The woman with her spinning wheel even gave us a demonstration. She had taught herself to spin whilst working there and explained the excessive amount of hours it took to finish even one sweater. She also made it possible for me to try the bread pudding I'd been eyeing on the restaurant menu; she warned me they were closing in just 15 minutes so we rushed over and put our order in. Now, I'm not sure if their restaurant has its own yelp page so I'll just review it here. That pudding was the most delicious, most perfect bread pudding I've ever had, and I've tried quite a lot from some of the best places in NOLA. The top was crisply caramelized, and the center was a buttery custard infused with vanilla and cinnamon--an aromatic taste sensation. The server brought me two containers to go (an extra as I'd only asked for one!) and I was so excited to try it, I devoured the first one while wandering between the houses. There were some rather beautiful little homes, furnished with accurate historic decor, and I appreciated that we were able to look at things on our own, at our own pace, free from having to follow a guide. We visited on a day it was set to storm, but we were able to see most of the buildings before the sky opened up on us. We foolishly forgot to bring umbrellas of any kind, so we ended up darting between structures, and eventually taking refuge in the old church while the worst of the rain passed. It was atmospheric and memorable. We found some charming animals in a little barn--a donkey and two sheep and we said hello. There were even mushrooms, and among them we found a single chanterelle, so keep an eye out, fellow mushroom hunters! Lastly, you must leave adequate time to check out the gift shop. They have something for everyone, and much of it made by local artisans! I would recommend Vermilionville to anyone with an appreciation for southern history.
