Drove by once when I was lost and saw the place. Looked it up online and had to visit. The ambiance was just what I was looking for, out of the way, small town Indiana. We sat outside on a nice evening. Our server was so friendly and attentive. The menu had some items you don't find just anywhere. We had the Grinch Salad and BBQ Bacon Burger. Both were good and done to our requests. The owner/chef came out to talk with the guests. New ownership (and the allure of weekend brunch!) has encouraged me and my family to finally try the Ole Hitchin' Post. We first came in to see live music on a Friday night and tried the hand breaded fish and tenderloin. Both of these Hoosier staples are deep fried options and definitely hit the mark! After learning that they cure their own bacon and make their own sausage we knew we had to try the brunch. You may not expect much for brunch in the middle of Larwill, I can't say that I did, but I am so glad that didn't stop us from trying it. For a little roadside place in a tiny town this spot has a great down home menu. Burgers, hot dogs, tenderloins and beer. I see bikes (Harleys) in the parking area, all of the seating is outdoors on wood tables, no masks, and they only take cash and checks. So, fair warning, if you are concerned about Covid contact you best get take out. They did say they clean the menus but we didn't trust that and sanitized our hands. You can pull in front and they will serve you in your car. I got a grilled chicken and an ice cream cone, RRR got a cheeseburger and strawberry milkshake. Good and just as expected. They got the milkshake order wrong, chocolate instead of cherry, but RRR still liked it, and my Moosetracks was very good. read more

Holy Cow! THIS is where the mother-in-law wanted to go for Mother's Day. I'm thinking she's getting a tad more wacky as the years go by but if she wants to go Larwill [not sure there's any other reason to go to Larwill] then by God, we'll take her to Larwill to the Hitchin' Post. Gravel lot, picnic tables, some good loud music, fire pits and solid service staff. Menu arrives; burgers, chili dogs, tenderloin, fish, steaks, ice cream. It's got all my food groups covered! Steaks at nearby table look delish. I choose chili dogs, the outlaw the burger, & the better half the breaded tenderloin. Food is made to order. Piping hot on delivery. Sides are made in house mostly it seems. I'm happy with the slaw too. Downside here would be weather challenges - there is some indoor seating but we didn't lay eyes on it. You can have carhop service to your vehicle as well. This should be a destination drive if you're looking for a different venue from ordinary and value some good chow in a casual setting! read more

Stopped here while driving through the area. Cute little local dive with a western theme and FANTASTIC food. Food is simple but fresh, delicious, and clearly made with love. The Ole Hitchin Post is a great spot to grab a sundae. Great decor, lots of outdoor seating, and friendly people. Today I wanted some lunch so I ordered a fish sandwich. Wow! This place is AWESOME! There is a seating area outside and an inside area that is climate controlled, an adorable "theater" area and lots of neat decor to look at while you wait for your food. We stopped in on our way through the area and we're pleasantly surprised. The girls that work here are super sweet and helpful with menu items. The food we had was hand breaded fish, tenderloins and chicken tenders...and even though they were friend, they tasted clean and were crispy and flavorful. My husband and I have eaten at many places including big cities...and this place left us more pleased than a lot of restaurants that were considered high end. We will definitely be back and hope more people stop in and support this locally owned gem!!! read more

Food is decent. I had the Texas burger. It tasted fine but was very basic. Prices were much higher than I would have thought and expensive for what you get. Lunch with a burger, side and iced tea was ~$20. Not a bad place but way better options out there. read more

We went here on a Saturday to try something new. It was a great experience. The weather was good and we sat outside at the picnic tables. We got the Ole Hitchin Burger with fried pickles. The burger seemed fresh and the lettuce, tomato and onion were a good complement. The southwest sauce brought the whole thing together. We'll definitely be back and recommend this to others. Great little spot in Larwill. We drove through Larwill by accident and found this place. They have a great breaded tenderloin, plump and moist without too much breading. We have become regulars at the Ole Hitchin' Post and we've tried most of what's on the menu at one point or another. The tenderloins are amazing, the burgers are the best around, and you can't go wrong with one of the steaks. All the carhops are super sweet and helpful. It has great atmosphere and we love going there...whether we get something to go and are on our way or we sit at the picnic tables or we go in the little building where they have indoor seating, we always get excellent service and food! read more

Fun old school drive in type of place. Came out to the truck to take my order. May have to have a touch of gray hair to know what to do when they bring the food out on the window-hanger tray :) Coney dog and fries basket was good.
