Food was OK. Service was good. All was a positive experience until I received the bill. Only a total, not itemized. The BIG issue was the ADMIN fee added to the bill. I was totally surprised by this totally unwarranted addition to the bill. Some restaurants have adapted and additional surcharge due to the service fee added by credit card companies. It is a surcharge every restaurant has paid for decades every time a credit card is used which the restaurant builds into their prices. Now they are gouging us by adding the surcharge to our bill with no explanation. Even if you pay cash or use a debit card ( which has no additional charge ) they still charge you more. I will not return to this restaurant again. Greed seems to affect some owners. IF they would disclose this BEFORE ordering, it would give you a choice to stay or go somewhere else. Unfortunately this may affect tops in the future even hough the server has nothing to do with this greed. But if the servers don't make tips, the owners may revisit the decision. read more

The best cheeseburger in Fort Wayne! It's a must try!! Double quarter pounder with cheese loaded and not over priced. More bang for your buck!! And the staff is spot on! First off don't go before 8am at breakfast as they have one person trying to get like 15 tables. So don't expect a coffee refill. Then on to the food, so terrible I had to send mine back as it was all microwaved. My husband didn't like his biscuits and gravy but was too hungry to send it back. Waitress was rude when I sent it back and still charged me for the toast that I didn't eat and would take it off the bill. First time I just didn't leave a tip and will not go back. We arrived to Lunch Box Café hungry and ready for a good meal. This was my first time at the café, and I appreciated the community atmosphere and the kind servers. I got the tuna salad croissant sandwich and the croissant was one of the best I've ever had! Their prices are reasonable, and even being there on the Saturday brunch rush, our order was out in a reasonable amount of time and was great!  Their menu has a great variety of food, and you can even get some dessert. I ordered a tuna melt today and was totally disappointed. The quality of the tuna salad was lacking..the cheese cold.. not melted.. I took three bites and could not finish the sandwich. I shared my concerns with the waitress, she said to tell the owner..that she would want to know. Tina is the owner and when i was discussing this with her she immediately became rude. She told me that the tuna was fresh everyday. She stated that when I get my own restaurant, I can fix a tuna melt any way I like. I was not combative and was insulted by her response. I asked if the green beans had bacon in them. The waitress said yes. I told the waitress I can't have bacon, no pork on anything, same with my friend. We got back the Beef Loin steak with gravy on it. I cut my steak and noticed the gravy had sausage in it. That was pork. Here goes the BIG issue, the waitress took my food back, she was grumpy, the kitchen scraped the gravy off put the steak back in the deep fryer and served us the same steak I had cut. I already touched my food and cut my food and served it back to me. There was a boy behind me coughing with a terrible cold. What if he returned his food to get re-cooked and now the kitchen is passing his cold to us. The managers behavor wasn't any better than the waitress. They were very rude...grumpy! Disappointed in the butterscotch pie. It's not brown sugar butterscotch that's homemade but orange butterscotch pudding from a box with cool whip topping. There is no brown sugar, no meringue that a good butterscotch cream pie should have. I didn't try any other types but I would ask questions the next time before ordering. WOW! What a hidden gem in Fort Wayne! I went here for brunch with my good friend and we were surprised! The quality of the food was so fresh and delicious! They even have fried pickles there which I want to try next time. I got the southern omelet which had gravy on it and it was delicious! It has beef hash in it and I went to flavor town! The pancake was not the best but the server did tell me to get a waffle. I ended up getting a a pancake because it came with my meal. However, the blueberries were delicious on it! I also had a coffee there and normally small cafes have horrible coffee, this was not the case. It was really good coffee for a small cafe! Hear me out. The food was really quite good. The service was mediocre. But what I COULD NOT get over, was the kitchen staff. We all know we are in the midst of a pandemic. All of the wait staff was wearing masks. So i felt good about it when we walked in. My husband and I sat at the counter. There is a "window" where the wait staff places their orders and all the food comes out of this window. I saw 5 different people through the window. None of them were wearing masks. I tried to remind myself that they don't have to and probably no one is wearing them at restaurants where you can't see into the kitchen. But then I realized the man giving the food its last touches, wasn't even wearing gloves. He was touching the ALL the food before it went out, with no gloves!! My only complaint about the place is that their portions are too big. The Fish Sandwich is a go-to favorite for both me and my parents. The fish is fresh and tasty, not fishy at all. It is fried to perfection, and bread is soft and delightful. The Chicken Tenders were also delicious. You could tell the chicken they used was a good quality and fresh. This is a local business tucked away in a shopping strip off a main road by a gas station. It has a nice shared parking lot and easily able to find a spot Walking in you notice how clean it is and spacious with more tables than booths. Staff is friendly and usually very busy with long time customers. They seat you and greet you immediately with a smile and give you time to look over the menu. It's a simple menu but the chefs pours their love in the food. It's mainly known for breakfast and they have really good eggs Benedict. The muffins are Crisp and the eggs are perfectly poached. With a little hot sauce it's perfect. They also have really good chili. It does have beans but it's a perfect balance with the ground beef and broth. Again I add hot sauce. I wish it had some jalapeño in it too but no luck. The kraut and sausage soup is a creamy broth based soup packed full of sausage, kraut and mushrooms (which I could have gone without and did nothing to the flavor of the soup) and enough broth for each bite. Def a must order if they have it. Again, some hot sauce made it great. Want a salad? The Cobb is great. Large and fresh but I didn't like the lunch meat they used for the meat so I wouldn't order that again. They have a lot of regulars and staff has been there for years which makes his place homey and that hometown fee some of us still long for. They do get very busy in the mornings but if you do have to wait it's not for very long. They also have private bathrooms that are located right in the dinning room so if you are having bowel issues try to wait. I've been seated by the bathrooms before when someone couldn't wait and it was awful with the smell. I like going here due to the homestyle feel and breakfast foods. Recommend to try it. I stopped here for lunch recently and my meal was great! I had the breaded pork tenderloin and it was one of the better ones I have had. It was very large and had excellent flavor. The only downside is afterwards I didn't have room for pie. The reason for taking a star off is for service. I realize I was there during the busy lunch rush, but my server was basically absent. I will go back, but my hope is I'll get better service. Side note: While I was having lunch there were three service members at a table nearby. An older gentleman approached them and told them he was a veteran and knew what they were going through. He then told them he had taken care of their bill. Kudos to him! read more

I've eaten here several times, only once dining in, and more than 5 times ordering carry out. The food is always excellent! That's what keeps me coming back. However I do have a complaint. It states on both the online menu, and printed menu that "All sandwiches served with chips & pickle spear or carrot & celery sticks" I have yet to see a pickle spear. I have even stated clearly that I want the chips and pickle with each sandwich ordered, we always get the chips, but never ever, any pickles. If you don't have them, then stop advertising that you do, and at the very least tell me when I order that it is not an option. What gives?? This last time I ordered carryout I found a $2.30 customer fee on my receipt. What is that? I did order a side of sour cream with my potato skins. Did that cost $2.30? read more

A 3 1/2 star. Yeah the food was just okay this time. My fries were sent back 2 times. After waiting for 30 minutes, I expected them to be hot waiting on Husbands chicken. The waitress brought them back as hot, and they were NOT even warm. She then brought them back hot but double dipped greasy. Wth !! So if that wasn't enough, she told us an outright lie. No coleslaw she said and low and behold the table behind us ( not 10minutes later) brought 2 ladies coleslaw !! I was sooo pissed !! I just found out that residents from my my moms assisted living location went to the lunchbox cafe today. After leaving the restaurant to load back up in the bus the manager came out and told them they were no longer welcome back as some of the people didn't leave tips. These wonderful elderly people look forward to getting out once a month to a different restaurant. I find this behavior rude and unacceptable. These men and women deserve our thanks and respect. Many of them are veterans. I wonder if the servers or manager would treat their parent or grandparent with such disrespect. Granted servers make their living on tips but wouldn't it be a better world if our elders were shown respect rather than told never to come back to a place on their one monthly outing. The staff at this AL facility do so much to try to make their residents golden years truly golden. Shame on this manager for such rude behavior. read more
