I had a faux leather skirt's seam rip right up the center and I wasn't sure if it could be fixed. I brought it to Olga and she had it fixed and ready for me the next day. She was able to fix it by placing a faux leather patch over the seam and it looked great. read more

Perhaps Olga considers herself the tailor to the stars! (But she has no use for us common folk, it would seem) A few months ago, I called Olga. I have a pair of pants that fit really well but developed a large tear above one of the rear pockets. The pants are several years old and weren't expensive, but I liked the look and fit. Which led me to Olga. I explained about the pants. She was very pleasant, and said come in on either Tuesday or Friday, and gave me the hours. The following Friday I walked over with the pants, at around 5pm. The sign on the door says open till 7! So I called her again, reminded her of our conversation, and she said she had to close early due to family circumstances. Hey things happen. I get it. Today, Friday, I once again went over with the pants, this time about 4. Once again, the shop is closed. So I called her again, to find out what's going on. She said she's closed because it's a holiday weekend!? Silly me for thinking she actually EVER worked the hours posted on her door. She DID however remind me that there are many other tailors in the neighborhood. This all would've been so much simpler if she'd just told me up front that she didn't really need any new customers. On the positive note, after I left, I walked passed another tailor. I walked in, the tailor greeted me with a smile, and after a brief consultation, he took the pants, and I walked out with a receipt, and will pick up my pants next week. So no, I cannot recommend Olga. She may do good work, I really tried to find out, but apparently, despite the sign on her door, she only works when she feels like it. Now you know. read more

Wonderful integrity and excellent work. I highly recommend Olga. I brought in two pair of pants where elastic wore out. I wanted to spend as little as possible. The velvet pants quite old. Olga ran a seam down and took no time. When I asked how much? She said zero. When I needed button holes and buttons sewn in, I brought to Olga and very reasonable. I have a friend who has her copy dresses and also uses her design expertise. Delighted she's in my neighborhood. read more

I've brought in 3 dresses to Olga (including my wedding dress which required many fittings and changes) and I have been very happy with her work. Her sewing work is very good and she is very attentive to detail. Her shop is also very clean and she vacuumed every time before she took out my wedding dress. I saw a few seamstresses before her and none of them made me feel as confident about the finished product as her, which is why I decided to bring my wedding dress there. She always has suggestions, knows about material, and always puts you at ease. Waiting time was always very reasonable too. read more

I first came here because I lived around the corner, and a neighbor made the recommendation. I had a couture designer strapless dress that had a built in corset and multiple layers, so it was a complicated alteration. Olga knew exactly where to modify it so it would stay up and so it would look flattering. When I saw what a great job she did with the complicated structure of the dress, I knew I could trust her with any dress, and now that I live in CT, I'm tempted to bring my clothes to the city just for her to do the alterations. I agree with the other reviewer that she is pricey, but I have had tailors at dry cleaners ruin other clothes, and I'd rather pay more and be confident the job will be done right. read more

I came in hoping to get a dress altered for a wedding. She was extremely rude and acted as if it was an inconvenience to see what the alterations would be. She rudely told me she could not make the alterations in the time frame that I needed done. Definitely never going back. read more

This place is the worst place I have ever walked into. Whoever gave 5 stars must be their friends and family. Over priced for shit work. Attitude is horrible. Olga is my go-to person for alterations, design and fashion taste. She has always known just the right modification to my clothes, whether it be the length of any garment or the amount of fabric to take in or let out. I trust her to do an excellent job on any category of clothing; designer label or not. She is an extremely accomplished dressmaker as well, and I would trust her expertise to construct or adjust a garment that is important to me. Condescending attitude and no idea of what contemporary style/fit should be like. Ridiculously overpriced. Spent 20 minutes pinning my pants down on me(needed to take down the waste due to recent weight loss), held them at her shop for over two weeks and managed to give me back garment that was still so loose in the waste that my pubic area was risking exposure,but somehow managed to take in the width in the thigh, making my $300 Brochu Walker "boyfriend trousers" look absolutely ridiculous. No apologies when I pointed out the problem and asked for revision. She said she was going to call me when pants are ready, sometime in two weeks(!?!) When I expressed dissatisfaction regarding having to wait for two weeks again, she told me -" if you not happy, don't use my services." Refused to refund my $ and asked not to "make a scene". No need to say anymore. read more

Insanely overpriced for average work. A short tunic was $40 to shorten. Take your clothing elsewhere. She ruined two of pants.

I had a horrible experience here recently. I dropped a vintage suede belt off to be altered and had an in-depth discussion with Olga about what work would need to be done. She handed me a paper receipt and told me she would call me when it was finished. She called me a few days later to say it was done, and I told her I would pick it up the following saturday. On Saturday around 3:15 PM I called her saying I was on the way over (her shop closed at 4 PM) and that I didn't have my paper receipt. but reminded her about exactly what the item was. She told me "I have no belts here, I don't know what you're talking about". I said I would be there shortly to sort it out. When I arrived at 3:30 PM, she had closed the shop early. I left numerous voicemails the following week asking her to call me back which she never did. Luckily I found the paper receipt and my friend went to the shop 2 weeks later. Olga handed her the belt (which she charged a fortune for, and is cash only). The whole experience was very strange and unlike anything else I've seen in New York. I'm very grateful I got my item back, but it was a long and difficult process. read more
