Came by on 12/20 before they close the following week. Olga's is a staple for some of us that were fans since the st Clair mall loc. Then Alton was the last Illinois one. Now they will be closing. A place called max time out will be taking over their menu and coming to Belleville soon in the former 4204 main st. ( cannot wait) I had my usual 3 cheese Olga, curly fries, and of course pizza snackers are a must. My server was Tia and she was very kind and on it! Very prompt with what limitations they had. They were on an prof 2 hour wait for inside Destin. ( one cook called out) they rocked it though Since timing the dinning area wasn't over crowded which was nice. Their poor bathroom needs a little TLC. All in all good service and food good as well!! read more

This restaurant has been a favorite of my family for many years. But I believe there's a reason they're closing the doors - the service went down hill and so did the food. At my last attempt to visit before closing I had a very long wait time (from getting a table, to being greeted, order taken an the receiving food) but also the food just didn't hit the spot the way it normally would. I am sad to see them go but I am not at all surprised. read more

A friend of my wife found out about this Olga's location in Alton so here we are after a 45 minute drive from Belleville. I have to say it was pretty darn good. Between the 3 of use we had 3 orders of munchers, a spicy Olga with curly fries and zucchini fries, peasant soup, a Greek salad and a fried chicken w/ 3 cheese. Everything was freshly prepared and tasted great. I don't know if it was the nostalgia of not having this for 20 plus years or I was just hungry. As I was enjoying my coffee on the morning of May 12, 2021, I checked to see what was selected as the ROTD in STL. To my surprise, it was a restaurant in Alton, IL and barely a mile and half from my house. Once I saw that, it was an easy decision on where I'd be going for lunch that day. I remember eating at Olga's when I worked in various malls in STL, but I seriously had thought they had disappeared. To my surprise the one at Alton Square Mall is still going strong. What is sad, is that it literally is the only thing that is open on the second level, but the Alton community still supports them and keeps them going. Honestly I am surprised they haven't moved to a strip-center where they'd get better traffic. Any way, let's talk about my lunch. I was very pleased and most likely will be returning, but will do carry-out as I saw many others doing. The day I dined, they had a special which included; The Original Olga, small Olga salad and a side of Olga's seasoned curly fries. Now that was a filling and delicious combo meal. I enjoyed the small Greek salad and the gyro meat was tender. Those crazy curly fries are a treat plain and when they are seasoned, they truly are a treat. Visiting during COVID, they provided me with a "Little Cup of Ketchup" for dipping my fries. To be honest, I always prefer my ketchup in a little cup, so I was extremely delighted to see it on my plate. My beverage of choice was iced tea and when I asked for Spelenda, they brought me individual packets and placed them on the table. Again, it was a good and safe precaution during our pandemic. The service was friendly and attentive. Their ambiance was bare bones and simple. When I lived in STL, I had so many choices for a gyro. Here in Alton, the choice are minimal. I'm glad I have re-discovered Olga's and that their gyro satisfies my craving. I'll be calling and doing carry-out in the very near future. I had this food when it was catered for a work event. The pitas with veggies, chicken & beef, snack chips & cheese, salad with Olga dressing & different types of chicken was all so good that I want to go try other items on the menu @ the restaurant. They delivered the food in a nice organized set up. They labeled all items. read more

We come up from Belleville every month or so because we love Olga's so much but the food is definitely hit or miss. They've definitely gotten better over the past half year and service is always good! We will continue coming back for our favorite classics read more

Soooooo, this review goes to show how just one little cog in the wheel can really color one's whole experience... We were seated at the very back of the restaurant, right under a vent. I usually like it on the cooler side, but this was TOO cold. We moved up a table, which helped a little. People at the booth along the wall saw us move, and said that they were freezing too. When the waitress came back, we told her we were all cold so she turned the temperature up. MUCH appreciated. Not sure if it was complaining about that, but afterwards, our service was almost non-existent. I ordered the Loaded Hummus which the waitress suggested and I was very grateful for the suggestion. It was DELICIOUS and.... not on the menu. An advertisement pasted on the table??? I also had Zucchini Fries which were good too. Just not a whole lot of them. The only NOT good thing was the service. We had to ask numerous times for plain mustard, and then napkins. And she kept passing us by to wait on other tables even though it was very evident we were needing assistance. And she told us several times she would be right back, and then.... The food was 4 star, but the ambiance and service brought the overall rating down for me. read more

Everything thing was great! We got there at 1130, no wait, very strange for Olga's. Restaurant was busy, but we were sat quickly, drinks order taken quickly, drinks brought, order taken, food arrived quickly and correctly. Service was great, food was excellent!! read more

Went here last night with a friend- it is located inside of Alton Mall. The mall is definitely lacking and I can't imagine it will be open much longer. The restaurant was nice with waiter service, not your typical food court mall food. We ordered snackers with pizza dip and cheese and spinach pie as appetizers. Both were tasty! I love how soft the bread was on the snackers and they had a lot of seasonings on it (seasoning was salty, but I like salty). We got the Olga meals with half Olgas. I loved the zucchini fries!!!! The Olga itself was okay but not amazing for a gyro. The meat flavor was good, the bread was soft and sweet, the Olga sauce tasted like plsin yogurt to me. Overall, service was good, food was good, prices were good. I'm a fan and will probably return. But I wasn't a fan of the location, it'd be nice if they moved into a new location outside of the mall. read more

Horrible... much the same as the mall it's located with. Awful!! 6 people in line upon arrival, and told 20 minutes to wait (possibly less). After 40 minutes... all are seated except us, as I watch 2 parties walk in and be seated? What the hell? Went to desk, and got an 'oops'. ... thought we'd seated everyone? (There was another poor party behind us). Service pathetic. Understaffed, tired decor and zero ambiance. This is NOT the Olga's I remember from years ago. I would never, ever return to this horrid location on the desolate second floor of a dead mall / Alton Square. Server did her best to make it up to us. The food is good, but the mall is infested badly with roaches. Probably something to keep in mind.

Olga's Kitchen is still around after all these years and one of the only stores holding Alton Square mall together. The grilled chicken Olga is a full meal. Lot of protein and filling. The Olga bread is delicious. The Olga salad could use some work. Not many people eat iceberg lettuce anymore and it's full of it. Little to no nutritional value in this salad. Would love to see more wraps and bowls on the menu. read more

I have always loved this place BUT, Not anymore. Was there Wednesday Dec 11. Was waited on quickly and our waitress was friendly. We got all you can eat soup,salad and snackers. The soup came and it did Not have any of the lamb in it. It also was like mud and like it was made with a can of tomato paste and no broth. If you have eaten their peasant soup before you know it's a brothy vegetable soup with just a little bit of tomato base in it. I called the waitress over and asked her why there wasn't any lamb in it and that it was nothing but paste. So she told the manager and the manager quickly said will fix it and then didn't acknowledge anything else. So they brought us a different soup which was the white bean chili. It had no beans in it and my daughter said that the chicken tasted like prison food. They brought me my salad and it wasn't even mixed up with the dressing on it. Wow. This place is great. The gyros are the best and are authentic and tasty. The pita bread makes the gyro the best though. Get the Olga's Way. It's made with fresh lamb meat, onions, tomatoes, and the Greek sauce. You can get the curly fries as a side. If you want try the Zucinni fries as a side as well. There was a bunch of soups available. Didn't have room but they looked great. The restaurant is in an old mall, but it's worth the trouble getting into the place though. read more

I will start by saying I loved Olga's and have been coming here for years but I will not give them a 4 or 5 star anymore and rave to people about them until they bring back items they have had on the menu for decades! I'm all about adding new items to expand a menu but I'm so tired of restaurant's changing the menus and not in a good way. It's not that hard to keep classic menu items that make sense and just add something to see if it's a hit or not!! I guess corporate doesn't like guest to bring kids either bc it's now also less kid friendly too!! Shitty crew everytime I come in I feel unwelcome and I don't even feel safe bringing my children to stop by and eat there because everytime I get my food servers always on phone in front that I get food cold and the cook don't care how he sends it out. I know his name is John and he don't show that he respects any of his customers so if he don't care about them what makes you think he will care about the food or what he sends out? 6-26-18 Dinner for 3 Parking - Extremely generous. Huge shopping center lot. Alton Square Shopping Center - now almost defunct. Olga's Ambiance - Very cozy dinning GOOD food and generous portions. Service - Very attentive. Accurate. Polite. Very nicely dressed & very polite. Just plain GOOD food that will please you. Mall was almost empty BUT OLGA'S was full almost every table completely full. Out of sequence. That's how I'll describe our experience. The restaurant was remodeled but still with the old floor plan (two separate kitchens with separate entrances without connections and dishwashing in rear). We got seated at a two seater table right by the one kitchen entrance. Foot traffic galore. Hubby and I always order same thing- minestrone soup, basket of fries, original Olga with extra sauce and "make it larger" Original. Our fries came first? Then soup, and much later our Olga's. Mine without the extra sauce. I requested it two more times before getting ice cold sauce. By then my sandwich was 3/4 eaten and lukewarm. Adding ice cold sauce wasn't happenin'. Restaurant actually had a wait for tables; not sure if it's due to Friday crowd or the remodel. Sorry Olga's- this visit wasn't as great as we're used to. read more

I want so badly to give Olga's 4 or 5 stars, but I can't do it. For the most part, the food is good. I always get the original Olga sandwich with a cup of peasant soup. I've given up on the fries because they're usually cold. Consistency is the serious issue at Olga's; it's almost 50/50 what kind of quality you're going to get each time you go in. Sometimes the food is amazing, sometimes is barely warm and in minuscule proportions. Once, the chicken Olga my husband ordered was literally two layers of breading filled with air- no chicken to be seen. Several times, the fries were worse than cold, and the salad was slimy and disgusting. Beware: Unlike most restaurants that serve fries with their sandwiches, YOU PAY EXTRA for a side of fries at Olga's. Like, an extra $2.49. For a sandwich and some fries, and a drink, you'll be lucky to escape the place without paying more than $12 for your meal. For a restaurant that costs this much per person I would expect perfect consistency. In all honesty, McDonalds is more consistent in their quality of food (it's always gross and low quality, but cheap.) Dear Olga's: either lower the prices, or include a side with your sandwiches, or keep the quality of your food A+ to justify me paying $15 a person for a sandwich, fries, and a drink. We LOVE Olga's because it's a family favorite, but half the time we go we leave disappointed to the point of saying "We're never going back there." I will admit I doubt prices will change due to the major renovations the restaurant recently did, and it looks SOOO good! If Olga's is going for a "fancy" atmosphere, with the nice fixtures and high prices, it needs to ALWAYS be satisfying. read more

HORRIBLE service every time we have came here. Never have had a problem with the food until recently. Last 2 visits we had to wait until after our food was out for our snackers (the appetizer). we told them never mind after we were done eating and all they offered was to take off the food we didn't get. Cups stayed empty literally the entire time. The past 2 visits we had the same waitress, Devin, who came to the table twice, to take the order, and then ask once we were already done with the food how everything is going. Someone else brought the food we actually got and the manager got us refills. i HIGHLY do NOT recommend this restaurant! You will wait an hour for food and have no drink the whole time! read more

Was unsure of this place but visited with a couple family members. The smackers are VERY good and worth the order of an appetizer. The cheeseburger, turkey, and BLT (all on pita bread) were the favorites amongst everyone. Service was decent especially for a smaller place. There's not a lot of space so would definitely recommend calling ahead if you have more than 4-5 people in your party. That's this spot has been open from 1980 onwards inside a mall that has slowly died down and changed is pretty amazing. Came here on a memory lane tour, got the snack box. Aka pita bread with somethjng that resembles zaatar seasoning and compound butter on the side. Go Olga's. Now walk around the mall reading the history of Alton. Pretty amazing. read more

I came here twice within the last 6 months to use a gift card my sis gave me - so, having never eaten at Olga's, I totally accepted. I knew it was always a mall staple, but unfortunately with all the malls getting worse these days and the number of Olga's locations shrinking, it was a bit of a challenge to find one! The one in Fairview closed, so the closest one to me was at the indoor ghost town Alton Square Mall. Of all the places left in the mall, Olga's was where all the people were. No joke. The service was great both times. Sure it seemed slow, but I've worked in the restaurant biz before so I know how it is. Both times I had a gyro and fries. Simple like that, since I usually don't try salads or anything special that soon. They were great, and it was enough to fill me up. Even better, since I checked in on Yelp - there was a free dessert offer and of course I utilized it. I had their Birmingham Brownie with ice cream. Pretty good I must say. It was cool overall. According to the company's website, there are 3 Olga's locations left in the St. Louis area. Visit them while you can! read more

In the are and ate at this Olga's location and it was surprisingly GOOD! Snackers were fresh/hot Entrees Fresh Flavorful and Hot! Thus This is a restaurant that should not be forgot! While some restaurants that were originally "mall based" moved out of the malls only to focus on quality/consistency and subsequently became Very successful. I would have liked to have seen Olgas do the same kind of thing as I think because of their menu being "different" than the Typical Burger Chicken Fare, IF implemented correctly could also be successful! Nonetheless great job by this staff today As stated Snackers fresh n hot, her Original Olga Gyro spot on, and fresh and I tried something a little different *The Sesame Chicken Olga Think Flavorful Grilled chicken *with a nice char, onion,peppers, and fresh zucchini topped with an Asian Balsamic!
