This place was very nice, vegetables and bread are fresh. The workers are very polite and friendly. They also sell Italian items such as pasta and sauce. The items are very neat. My family and I enjoyed this place and will come back for sure.

Yum yum yum yum yum. A good sandwich is like a symphony in your mouth. -- Toast I discovered the Olive Branch Sandwich Shop completely by chance thanks to a DoorDash promotion. Honestly, I probably would have never found this gem on my own. I saw it on the app, checked Yelp to see if it was legit, and wow, am I glad I did. This place makes incredible sandwiches and it's incredibly close to where I live. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I placed my order anyway. The food arrived in under 30 minutes and I was shocked--shocked--by the size, quality, and flavor. The moment I unwrapped the sandwiches, I felt like I had just time-traveled back to one of my all-time favorite sandwich spots in the country, Little Luca's in San Francisco. That's saying a lot. Their Sicilian sandwich is absolute perfection. A brilliant sauce, generous cuts of meat, and the option to add arugula or lettuce. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and downright delectable. Most places serve tiny little subs and call them Italian sandwiches. Not here. Olive Branch is the real deal. And the meatball sandwich? Incredible. Perfectly seasoned meatballs and a rich tomato sauce that wasn't too salty and soaked into the bread just enough to give it this beautiful buttery quality. I also tried their broccoli cheddar soup and was totally surprised. It actually had a homemade taste with generous, tender florets of broccoli. Not that watery stuff you find elsewhere--this was cozy, comforting, and real. The whole vibe of Olive Branch speaks to me. It's homemade. It's delicious. It's my new go-to sandwich shop. I can't wait to try all of their other sandwiches, their Italian wedding soup, and their salad selections too. This is proof that promotions really do work. I never would've found this spot without DoorDash and Yelp leading me there. Now I'm envisioning an illustrious sandwich partnership between me and the Olive Branch. Salute!

    Sicilian on ciabatta was great.

It's Olive BRANCH, not Olive GARDEN, ok? No all you can eat breadsticks here, as far as I know. The three sandwiches we tried were all made to order and wonderful. We tried the Turkey Club, the Sicilian, and the Capri and they were all excellent. They were perfectly-sized and loaded with fresh, delicious ingredients. The bread was particularly great and super fresh on each sandwich. There are various and interesting imported Italian products for sale inside, including drinks and snacks. There are a number of tables inside so you can either dine in or take out. For sandwiches, this feels like a takeout place. I will say it was very clean inside and the counter gal was very friendly. I realize this is a brand new restaurant and all new restaurants (and other types of businesses) go through growing pains. On Yelp, I try to accentuate the positive, as the old and fantastic Johnny Mercer song goes (look it up). There are some significant issues with this business that must be addressed. I will leave it at that.

VENICE (prosciutto, mortadella, capicola, fontina, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, pepperoncini, mayo, and Italian dressing) on ciabatta roll
    Scott T.

holy mortadella, Batman, Olive Branch's sandwiches are really tasty. the wife unit was out that way for work, and I asked (okay, begged really) her to pick us up a couple for a late lunch. she got the VENICE (prosciutto, mortadella, sweet capicola, fontina, spinach, sliced red onion, cucumbers and tomatoes, pepperoncinis, mayo, Italian dressing, salt and pepper). she got me the SICILIAN (Genoa salami, sweet capicola, pistachio mortadella, provolone, mixed greens, sliced red onion, cucumbers and tomatoes, pepperoncinis, mayo, Italian dressing, salt and pepper). both were ordered on a ciabatta roll and both were totally amazing. seriously, I'm a sandwich guy, and my those were two of my absolute favorite sandwiches EVER. my recommendation: jump in your Batmobile, drive like a bat outta hell to the shop in San Marcos, and grab a couple. ps: I barely minded they ignored my ask for an arugula add. yeah, their sandwiches are that good.

    Laura P.

This is a really nice place to get an upscale sandwich. Really fresh and excellent quality bread choices. I chose a turkey sandwich on focaccia. It was excellent. A large sandwich, enough for two meals. Lots of nice side salad options as well. I will have to try those next time.

    Sicilian on sour dough

Came on a Sunday and we were the second group (2 of us) to arrive. They were already out of ingredients which was concerning. Ordered a sandwich and a salad. The sandwich was generously prepared with meat, cheese, and vegetables. The bread to filling ratio was spot on. As robust as the sandwich was, the salad was sparse. I asked for the bread that was supposed to come with the salad and was told that it was frozen and would take time to be prepared. It was never brought to me and neither was I offered an alternative.

OB Works Sandwich with no cheese, Mayo, or Mustard
    Trevor T.

Also known as Olive Branch Eatery I ordered the OB works Sandwich with no cheese, mustard or Mayo. I like my sandwiches like I like my humor...DRY. Sandwich was stacked and delicious. Really happy with my order and thankful that they took my requests when making the sandwich. Some establishments won't or they will try doing different things like put oil on the sandwich or another spread. Glad Olive Branch doesn't do that. They make the sandwich how you want it. Woo hoo!

Best sandwiches made here. Super chill spot for some grub. Ricky, Aaron & Nick are all cool workers here. Check out this spot whenever you in town!

Do you see the mozzarella in this caprese? Nope.
    Taci T.

Firstly. The ingredients were super fresh and tasty. I appreciated that. That is 5 stars. My bf LOVED his on works and the kids sandwich was a great size. What lost stars for me was 2 things. I ordered a caprese. Noticed as she cut the sandwich that I never saw her add the mozzarella, when asked she was like oops! And then added it in. It's the main ingredient. I get home to discover that there was not much mozzarella even still. Half the sandwich was without. The parts the had it were good though. Then at check out there was confusion on how to apply my coupon and lots of fumbling, i found my needing to take my calculator out and ensure the price was correct. Overall good, it's walking distance to my house so I am sure we will be back but hopefully the service steps up a bit before we do.

Pastrami Ruben- my favorite of this order, really just delicious. Italian- delicious and messy, very classic. It really doesn't make sense as to why I would be expected to do this for one sandwich and not the other. I drove all the way back to the restaurant and was patient even when they told me about this inconsistency on the website. However, my main disappointment regarding this experience comes from the staff trying to tell me the original sandwich I received was correct. Apparently the website voids every ingredient that is supposed to come on the sandwich when you pay for extra add-ons, however my original sandwich was STILL missing the add-ons I paid for (avocado and cheese) and included the skimpiest amount of bacon, even though I paid for 3X bacon. On top of that, the size of the bread was half that of my other sandwich, which is supposed to be the same size. The girl at the counter tried to tell me it was because my other sandwich had more veggies (even though they were both supposed to have the same amount) but I really don't think that should affect the size of bread they give you. I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of accountability and the staff trying to convince me my sandwich was right when we were all looking right at it. It honestly was just the weirdest experience because they were all staring at the open face sandwich trying to tell me it had the ingredients I paid for. Even if they claim I was supposed to add the original ingredients manually myself, it STILL was missing the extra add-ons they charged me for. It was extremely odd that they kept going back and forth with me instead of admitting their mistake, so I decided to let it go. Lastly, the person whom I'm assuming is the manager re-wrapped the original sandwich for me and said he would make me another one and I could keep the first one. When I went to leave, the girl at the counter gave me grievance over taking both home, as if she either wanted it for herself or she was planning on recycling the ingredients for the next sandwich which I really hope wouldn't be the case for other customers' sake considering I literally took it home and brought it back to show them. Overall just a very weird customer service experience. Would not recommend.

I ordered the half-and-half with chicken teriyaki and katsu, and honestly it was one of the better teriyaki plates I've had anywhere around here. The chicken was flavorful, the katsu was crispy without being greasy, and everything tasted fresh. It's a little pricier than some teriyaki spots, but the quality backs it up. My wife and I could easily split one order next time. I came in around 4 PM, so it wasn't packed, but the people inside looked happy, the restaurant was clean, and the whole place just had a really good vibe. Sometimes you can tell within a minute whether a place cares about what they're doing, and this felt like one of those spots. There's a reason they've got 4.7 stars. From the first bite I had from my own Focaccia Roll, to the rest of my wife's Onion Roll I sampled hours later at home, it was perfectly baked and delicious with a lightly chewy crust to a soft and very flavorful interior that blended nicely salted and slightly sweet notes with a fragrant hint of herbs in the aftertaste. Seriously outstanding bread. With that being said, I very much liked our visit to On a Roll in Carlsbad. It's a small shop in the middle of an Office Park, open only during weekdays, with an interior that reminds of the shops I used to visit with my father back in the late 80's and 90's. The service was personable, their menu extensive, and their side selections include the Dirty Potato Chips brand, which is always a plus. I ordered their daily special, which was grilled chicken and sharp provolone that was supposed to be served on a French baguette. As noted, it eventually came on a Focaccia Roll, which was still delicious, but I admittedly would have preferred what was advertised. The chicken was well cooked, the horseradish sauce had a nice and light bite, and it was overall very tasty. My wife had The Gambler, which the wall menu stated was a roast beef and cheddar on a onion roll. When we sat down and looked at the take home menu, we realized it also came with tomatoes and mustard, two things she detests. Looking back at the wall menu, we saw the disclaimer that all sandwiches come with those standard written at the bottom in darker green lettering. We tried to amend our order and have those left off, but it was too late. She was able to salvage her lunch by removing the bottom bun and still thought her meal was pretty good. Overall, issues aside, our lunch here at On a Roll was pretty fantastic. And even despite those two errors in our order, I have to say I want to come back. With the bread they have here leading the way, the freshly sliced meat to order, and a wide selection of options that all sound worth a try, we definitely plan on making our way out here again in the future.

But for the price....$30 is basically the cost of a meal at a sit-down restaurant. So you always have to balance quality, quantity, and price. Incidentally, on the menu, there is no reference to "Maine" versus "Connecticut" style rolls. (My understanding is that the lobster in a Maine roll is cold and is dressed with mayo while the Connecticut lobster is served warm and is more buttery.) The video screen above the counter to this place mentions you can order it either way. The menu should also say this but whatever, this is just an FYI. If you don't specify a style, you will get the more popular Maine roll. I saw a number of people getting lobster rolls so apparently others are willing to spring the big bucks for this dish.
