I think tonight was my first time there; we'd try to come before, but it's always so busy! We had the Dolmadakia (stuffed grape leaves), Braised Lamb Leg (Wednesday night special), & I had the Fish Souvlaki. The food is exceptional! (No wonder they're always busy!) Luckily, they had a few tables available, so we ate there. The Dolmadakia were so soft, they practically melt in my mouth! The Braised Lamb was so tender & flavorful, I could've eaten it w/out the tomato sauce. And my Fish Souvlaki was perfect! I love their salad dressing as well. Very delicious Greek food! I am a fan of Greek food, so it's hard to disappoint me, but I'd have to say this tiny little restaurant offers fresh and flavorful Mediterranean offerings! The baba ghanoush was mouth-watering with it's smoky, roasted eggplant and seasonings. The soft pita bread was only .97 cents for an additional slice. My falafel was delicious but underwhelming as it was held in a delicious pita and slathered in hummus but nothing else. The only lettuce or greenery offered was my tasty Greek side salad which came with it. I usually avoid the Greek dessert .... because it's been typically overly sweet and slathered in honey, like a bomb of sugar is a good thing. However, their version was far more gently sweet, flavorful and flaky with crushed pistachio nuts on top. Yummmmmmmy. The service was friendly with its deli-approach, you come to pick up your own food when you are called, and it's cash-only. Bank of Hawaii is only a few yards away! I noted that some dining patrons had wine and possibly beer. The restaurant didn't offer any alcoholic beverages. They did offer some unusual drinks, such as French lemonade, but no wine or beer. I deduced that some of the diners went next door to the wine and beer shop and brought their own. I would have loved a glass of wine with my meal, so maybe that will be my plan next time I come to visit! read more

Ohhh I'm so glad I finally tried this place!! After multiple recommendations, I finally came in to enjoy fresh, flavorful and delicious Greek food. The fresh fish souvlaki is amazing, as are the yeagantes (giant beans). The pita and baklava are delicious and orders come out pretty quick! Cash only & I recommend calling it in before you go in! What a bizarre experience I always seem to have at Olive Tree. I've only ever had take out, which I've only had twice, but no due to not trying! Getting through to place your take-out order during dinner service can be a challenge in itself. They always run out of the special before I ever get through to place my order. Picking up the order sucks too. It's loud and crowded inside and I always end up awkwardly standing in the hustle and bustle to get my food. Despite all this hassle, I still patronize this cafe. The competition for Greek food here on island is abysmal and this is the best option. Their falafels are decent and the sandwiches come with a healthy sized amount of hummus for added moisture. The tabbouleh salad isn't super traditional compared to what I have tasted from middle eastern tabbouleh, but maybe the Greek version is different a bit. Anyways, its still delicious and it has a great texture. Not a cheap dinner. My two falafel pitas and tabbouleh this last order, after tip, was $36. For most cities in the world, falafels are one of the cheapest meals! Oh, Hawai'i. There is a market attached. The restaurant is cash only but the market is not. Hands down the best greek food I've had, and I've tried a lot. The hummus and dips were delicious, the mussels- divine. The pita wrapped sandwiches were delicious and fresh and not dry.... and the salad was so crisp with the BEST dressing. We did take out, which was fast and easy. They even have 15 min take out parking spots reserved! I want to write more but I'm slipping into a pleasant food coma post-meal. But truthfully...............my fave before trying Olive Tree, and after......is still Leo's Taverna (even if it isn't as authentic still the best gyro/souvlaki I've had) I ordered a lamb souvlaki and a fish souvlaki along with hummus and pita with an extra pita. Hummus was pretty bland and sad tbh, even store bought hummus have more flavor which was a little sad. Meat was a little salty, very chewy and big chunks I wasn't a fan. My other half had the fish souvlaki which she said was okay. Overall I most likely wouldn't have paid $42 for it. TIP: Go to Leo's Taverna, get the Gyro Value Meal for $10. And get garlic fries and a canned drink. Def the better way to go. P.S. For some reason I couldn't stomach the food 15 minutes later. I started to burp constantly and realized I had to throw up. I ended up throwing up and forcing everything I ate up and felt 10x better. Wow, this place gets really busy during peak hours. Must be really good. I came here around 7ish, danggg...it was full. It took us awhile to find a table since there was like 5 of us. Anyways, I order a mahi mahi souvlaki, includes the pita bread and the salad with dressing. I didn't like the dressing because it was really sour. The mahi mahi was really good with pita bread. This is our second visit. Enjoyed the food-slouvaki-fish & lamb options, falafel came in a pita with salad as well. Saturday special was braised lamb which looked good too. Our appetizer of choice was the baba ganoush and the pita is amazing (but not homemade). Portions are alright, def not large. All prices round up to 50¢ or even $ and you pay when you grab the food. I have been here a few times. Last night I tried their daily special of a cornish hen stuffed with spinach. This dish came with a side of potatoes and greek salad, and pita bread. The cornish hen was juicy and not dried at all. I did wish the salad came with greek olives. The employees are always friendly and the place clean. The layout is you order first and then pay when you pick up the food (the same counter where you order). The seating is on your own, so if you are coming with a group of people send someone to snag a table. My only complaint, too many tables and chairs that no matter if you sit inside or on the lanai, everything is cramped. read more

Holy Moly!!! Hubby had been craving Falafels and some friends had recommended us to Olive Tree. On our way home from the beach we stopped to get some grub and boy I'm so happy we did. Hubby and I started with the Avgo Lemono. My son engulfed his mussel ceviche appetizer. I had the fish Souvlaki (no pita due to being celiac) my 6 year old had the Chicken souvlaki and the hubby of course had the Falafel. The fish was flavorful and delicate. The dressing that paired with the fish was amazing!! My son loved his chicken souvlaki with the pita bread. He barely took a breath lol. My hubby thoroughly enjoyed his falafel and said it was delicious. Wish we didn't live so far away. But we will definitely make a drive back here just for the food and the awesome service! read more

Let the record show I love BYOB place!!! So this place gets an extra brownie point. On a regular weeknight, we stroll by the restaurant and the place is packed of patrons enjoying their food and wine. Tip: There is a wine shop next door in case you forgot the bottle at home! We settled in with a few selection of appetizers. I love the texture of the hummus, but not a big fan of the pita (bit hard on the night we went). Everything was freshly made to order. They also run couple specials and they are limited. All orders came with a healthy salad. To clarify, the restaurant does provide cups and wine opener. I brought my own because couple reviews stated they charge for one. Most people don't associate Hawai'i with Greek food unless they've been to Olive Tree, one of my top crave-worthy restaurants and a must eat any time I return to O'ahu to visit family and friends. Unparalleled falafel and hummus (seriously the best), amazing lamb wraps, Yeagantes (butter beans marinated in tomato deliciousness). For me a perfect date (and in fact one of my first with my now husband) is grabbing Olive Tree to eat on the beach at dusk. We went on a Wednesday night just before 7 pm and were lucky to score two parking spots in the parking lot. Great timing. The hummus was prepared and ready for pick up well ahead of our entrees, which was a definite plus since we didn't get our entrees until 30 minutes later. This place gets busy as soon as it opens so be sure to order right when they open otherwise you'll be waiting a good 30 minutes for your take out! It's worth the wait though! This is still my favorite place to go for Greek food on island. The ambiance is low key, the food is consistently delicious, and they are still BYOB (woohoo!). A few of my favorite dishes are the lamb Shaorma, the Falafel, and all the apps they offer. OK, favorite apps list is: baba ghanoush, dolmadakia, mussel ceviche (green lipped like in New Zealand), and the tarama salata. Everything is still cash only which can be inconvenient, but as a regular, I always remember to bring cash when I go. Seating is limited but over the years, they've added more tables out on their lanai so it's rare not to be able to find a table. read more

Came here for the first time after hearing good things about this restaurant. A couple girlfriends and I met here for dinner on a Wednesday night (restaurant open 5pm-10pm). When we arrived, shortly before 5pm, people were already lined up outside the door. There were at least 8 people on line when they opened. Seating is first come, first serve so we saved our table before standing in line. We ordered our food and had a seat at our table to wait, they call you name overhead when your order is ready and you pay when you receive your food, CASH ONLY. Our order: hummus and baba ghanoush w/pita, piato tiri w/pita, and mussel ceviche for appetizers. Organic chicken souvlaki, new zealand lamb souvlaki, and their special for the night, lamb shank. Omg!!!! Best baba ghanoush and hummus I ever had. The mussel ceviche was ok. Loved loved loved the piato tiri so much I went to the little store next door to purchase some french feta to go after dinner. I had the New Zealand lamb souvlaki, which I really liked. It came with a salad that was delish as well. I had a taste of the special for the night, lamb shank, and it was pretty tasty. I'm not a lamb fan and was expecting it to have a gamey taste but it didn't. I believe the organic chicken souvlaki was good as well because my friend didn't complain about it and she ate it all. It is BYOB, but they charge for glasses, I believe it was $0.46 a glass, but you can bring your own glasses as well. They do have a little store next door with a wide variety of wines to choose from. We brought our own. For a little restaurant they were very busy on a Wednesday night. By 6:30pm all tables were full. There were lots of take out orders, but our food didn't take long to be ready. Ended up going to longs and buying something small so that I could get cash back and walking back. lol They're food is so good! It looks good too as you can see by the pictures. I got the muscle appetizer $8 and some other dish $9. I opted out of getting the pita bread and they gave me more salad. They made it super quick. Plus its BYOB. I will be back soon! This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant! Located on the corner of Kilauea and Pahoa, it has a small parking lot that is shared with the nearby Subway Sandwich shop, a bakery coffee shop and a wine deli store. Lots of street parking and in a pinch, I've parked at the Waialae-Kahala post office (shhh, don't tell!) at night to pick up my takeout order. All the food is consistently good here. The daily specials are in limited supply and when they run out, you're SOOL. Sunday's it's spanakopita, Tuesday lamb shank, Wednesday stuffed eggplant, Thursday chicken saffron. I forget what they have on the other days. Three different grilled fillings for their souvlaki: chicken, fish and lamb. Their tzatziki sauce is like McDonald's Big Mac special sauce. Oozing and dripping out of the pita sandwich and so finger-licking good! It's a casual restaurant where you go to the counter and order your food. When it's ready, they will call you to pick it up. Beware this restaurant does not accept credit cards. Cash or check only. You can BYOB and there's no corkage. Bring your own glasses because they charge for that. And they charge for water too. One small request, this is a fun restaurant to eat drink and be merry but some patrons hog the tables all night and leave no tables for other diners. Really down to earth spot with good greek food that make you feel healthy after! The salad was fresh, the soup was so good after a long day of walking around, and the dips were all flavorful and not overly seasoned. I really like the hustle and bustle of the place for dinner, and it does get a little tight so just be mindful if you're in a rush/or super hungry. The service is pretty fast for being so busy, and the set up is different from any other restaurant in terms of when you pay. I think it would be nice to just pay up front because touching money halfway through (cash only) is sort of gross. But, just a small detail, no big! read more

Ok, so my First Ever Yelp Review: I've decided that it should be one of my favorite restaurants. I've been going to Olive Tree Cafe since they opened. I love their Fish Souvlaki with a side of hummus....But the main reason for my choosing Olive Tree Cafe as my First review, is that so many other restaurants could learn something so essential to success from Olive Tree: CONSISTENCY! There's been slight changes over the many years, slightly smaller portions haven't gone unnoticed by me, maybe a couple of new distributors cause slight variation in flavor. However, it's the consistency, always good, always exactly what I expected, amazing staff. Can you imagine working in that fast paced environment, and pulling it off, night after night, year after year. They do it, and do it right. Sure, every restaurant, no matter where, might experience an "off night", but that's just like any group of humans trying to create harmony. It's like going to see a favorite band and once in blue moon something sounds off, but it's still fun, still good, and no question that you'd be back for more. That's how I feel about Olive Tree Cafe. They may be missing their founder, Savas Mojarrad, but they're still making great food. My favorites include the hummus with pita appetizer, and the feta vinaigrette salad dressing. Access is moderate. There's a shared free small-ish parking lot. Ordering is by phone or in person. If you order by phone, they will not call your name; check in at the pick up area. If you order in person, they will call your name. The phone is sometimes busy.
