I completely understand not wanting to open dine in the way it was (silverware, ceramic plates etc) BUT at least put a dang trash can outside and let customers sit at the tables. That would take zero extra staff. No waiters, no dishwashers, etc. zero change to the process they have now. I wouldn't mind eating out of the disposable containers, I just need a place to sit and enjoy and a trash can to dispose in afterwards. That's all we're asking :((((( read more

Good Greek spot! Portions are relatively small though :/ Came in for a takeout order for dinner. For some reason, they didn't pick up their phone, so had to order in person. Took about 15 min. No line. Cash only. We ordered 2 lamb souvlaki platters. With tax, each one is $15. Comes with a small salad, then the lamb is wrapped in a pita with sauce. The flavors were all there, but in my opinion, the value isn't. We were pretty hungry and it acted as a small appetizer for us haha. All in all, good spot with good food. A long overdue review of this place, anyone looking to find good mostly Greek food look no further. I've had almost every item on the menu, and while I don't love everything, I can most certainly say everything is absolutely delicious! (I have yet to try their desserts however...) Though they are take out only nowadays, you can wait comfortably in the parking lot, or in their outside area with some sort of Mediterranean music playing. At least that's what I think it is...? My one and ONLY complaint, is: that they are not open more often! If there was some way to maintain the food quality and be open all the time, I would live there. The first thing you notice is there is no dine in. You can only takeaway. Hmmm ok. There were probably dining options at some point? It's also cash only. Be prepared. Pricing is pretty decent for Kahala. We ordered dolmas, baba ghanoush, the chicken special, and lamb souvlaki. They were great about keeping the pita on the side. I ate the baba with veggies from home. It was excellent. The chicken was excellent. The lamb I had one bite of because my toddler and partner devoured it. The one bite was great! My wife and I love Greek/Mediterranean food and have even wanting to try Olive Tree for a while (heard great things). However, living on the Windward side, it's hard to make it out during the hours they're open. Finally, FINALLY, we made it and we're so glad we did. Got the falafel x2. Soft pita, flavorful hummus, falafel was well seasoned. Probably the best on the island. The side salad (which I piled into my pita) was great, but I regret not eating it on its own as the provided salad dressing was fantastic. Overall verdict, I'd probably say best falafel on the island, though I craved a banana pepper or something pickled (which I found in the fridge). However, the flavors across the plate were fantastic and the price was also good value (and consistent with the prices I saw on here). Will be back. Olive Tree Cafe is ultra consistent. They provide high quality, tasty Mediterranean food, the same way every time! They have been closed to in restaurant dining during the pandemic but they pack the food to go very well and it does travel to your destination nicely. I've been eating and bringing friends to Olive Tree Cafe for over 15 years and no one has ever been disappointed! Since this is such weird times, it is hard to find places to eat. Luckily, this place was open. Still didn't disappoint!! There are two different entrances to the restaurant. If you ordered over the phone, you go to the side entrance and you tell them your name and pay there. You can still order at the place, which is really good. They basically have everything on the menu, so we got our favorites. Muscles ceviche and the New Zealand lamb souvlaki. Still delicious!! Started coming here over a decade ago and without a doubt has always been the best Greek food on island. I haven't come since the pandemic and was worried this would be another victim to the post pandemic food situation... but their quality of food has not changed. Unfortunately neither has their customer service. They have always been known to be very short and not very friendly, so as long as you know that going in you won't be disappointed. Back in the day we used to grab a bottle of wine from next door and share a meal outside, but they never reopen their seating area, so now it's take out only now. Hopefully one day it will reopen! Come early. Lines get long and it's CASH only. I was pleasantly surprised that their prices have not gotten crazy high with inflation. Can still get a decent meal for about $14. As a 20+ year customer I was extremely saddened by the passing of Savas Mojarrad some years ago and then the sudden passing of his manager too. I have so many fond memories of dining there and never had a bad meal. The food and service has always been great making those long lines and time lost worth every minute . This all being said one of the next best things about Olive Tree Cafe was the ambiance and energy . Regardless if you dined inside or outside it was always great food , wonderful people and charming . Since Covid it seems they have never returned to dine in and I honestly believe it lost its charm and many customers have since started walking away. I really wish management would get back to the old ways and bring back dine in. Their hummus is so delicious. Be sure to order with extra pita bread. My absolute fave is their chicken sovlaki is my go to dish. We have very fond memories of this place from the 2010's. It's sad to see the current state of it. 4 years after Covid and they're still keeping it take-out only. A few minutes late opening. No warmth or hospitality upon entry. They do not provide a place to sit to wait on your order. The music volume was so low...it makes you wonder if they're deliberately trying to get folks to call-in their orders and stay in their cars before pickup...it's sad. Its sad because of what this place used to be. When the new owner took over, he said that he was going to honor the original owners legacy... It's become a (cheap) capitalization on the original recipes...while denying the community the atmosphere and experience we loved. I'm not coming back until the owner re-opens the restaurant, the liquor store, and re-discovers the atmosphere and hospitality that made this place special. read more

Invited by family not sure what to expect. Very casual, outdoor seating at a quaint little cafe. Menu is simple, but has something for everyone (even vegetarians!). Definitely ask the cashier for specials when you go to the counter. Found out there was a Spanakopita Pie on Sundays, which was basically a GIANT beautiful spanakopita filled with spinach and a good ratio of cheese. You order at the register and they call your name over a speaker coursing out your meal. No servers, just a great chef and super friendly staff around to bus tables. Just remember it's cash only. Ordered the fresh mussels ceviche and handmade dolmas for our appetizers. The mussels were definitely fresh, juicy, and had a light seasoning of what we though was lemongrass. Wish there was some sort of sauce or spice, but the seafood was very enjoyable. Dolmas were great too, came with a light yogurt sauce on the side. For entrees we chose the Lamb Shoarma, Lamb Souvlaki, and and the Spanakopita Pie mentioned before. I'd have to say the Shoarma was the family's and personal favorite. Wish I wasn't the only one who ordered it cause we all wanted more! Evenly spiced and has a slight kick of heat. It shined through the red tomatoes and mild onions, all wrapped up in a warm pita. The ground lamb was cooked medium rare, almost medium well. Super tasty and memorable. Really nothing I've tried before. The Souvlaki was good as well. Huge chunks of lamb, but it just wasn't seasoned like the Shoarma. It was good, just different. The pie was great as well, probably something I would order again. Typical Spanakopita, instead it was oversized. All of our entrees came with a fresh side salad filled with plump tomatoes and cucumbers. You could tell every item was cooked and prepared fresh. Cam here around 630pm on a Monday night and it was already full with non stop customers. This was my friend's first time here and my second time in a loong time. Line went by fast and we ordered three appetizers and one platter all to share. We ordered the Hummus, baba ghanoush, Spanish Serrano ham and cheese, and the fresh fish platter. The appetizers all came with pita bread and the fish was wrapped in a pita with yogurt sauce and side salad. Hummus was good and tasted homemade. Come to think of it I believe I ordered the caviar hummus the first time I came here and that was way tastier! Try the caviar hummus! The eggplant hummus (baba ghanoush) was even more flavorful and had a strong eggplant flavor which I really enjoyed! The ham and cheese was okay-don't know what kind of cheese it was but it was a little too funky for our taste. The fish was well seasoned with like a lemon and caper herb yogurt sauce it was nice and tender. Luckily there were still some tables outside open but after we sat down, everything was full and packed. Loved that it was a casual vibe, you can BYOB and we saw lots of families enjoying together. Their menu is minimal but everything seems fresh. I am not sure everything on the menu is my type of food but I would try it if I am with friends who order what I haven't tried yet. Parking is limited but if you go early enough you should be able to park in the lot next to the restaurant or just park in the malls lot and walk over. Love the ambiance, outside seating, family owned, quirky Greek music, great service. For friend reunions or have guest visiting, this is a must go to. Tapas: The mussels, oh the mussels! Perfectly seasoned, with olive oil, capers, some dill, salted by the ocean. Jamon and cheese that comes with pita, best! Hummus is house made, also comes with pitas. Grape leaves are yummy. There is a seafood caviar spread that tends to sell out quickly. There usually is a daily special, if they have any left, get that. It's always delicious! They have a chicken with saffron in a tomato sauce with rice, so good! So is their eggplant dishes. Their regular offerings don't disappoint either. Their lamb or fish soulvaki are good staples. The sharoma (ground lamb patty) in pita, which has a yummy sauce. Save room for their baklava! You won't want to share! Cash only. You can BYOB! No corkage, they have wine openers at the counter. This family restaurant is a staple in our food rotation. Anytime we want something guaranteed to be delicious and brighten our day, we call in an order for our favorite lamb souvlaki, gather our cash and head to Olive Tree Cafe. Nothing excessive or over the top, just straight forward, perfectly cooked and well seasoned with good ingredients- the garlic sauce on the souvlaki is mouthwateringly addictive. The staff members are so kind. Like many things on the island, if you respect the process and people, it makes everyone's lives easier. If you call in your order, you don't have to wait. Otherwise, it's delicious and popular so a wait is to be expected. We have encountered some entitled tourists who are somewhat aggressive to us when we get our called in orders but usually we see familiar locals picking up bags of takeout for their families. Their patio is adorable but right now it's takeaway only. As a doctor, I am glad to see they continue to take safety precautions to protect their staff and it does not impact their ability to produce great food. There is usually just enough parking in that lot, and plenty of parks and beaches just down the street to eat at if you don't live closeby. read more

Kahala residents are so lucky to have quality Greek food so conveniently tucked next to the mall. Currently they only offer takeout which is smart and totally fine with me. I ordered the fresh fish souvlaki which is $15.01 with tax included. When paying, they only accept cash or checks which I feel is not as sanitary as accepting credit cards... but I guess they don't want to pay for the additional 2% charges. When I got home, I quickly took the pics so that I could scarf down my dinner. Basically, I inhaled it. Partly because it was so yummy and the partly because it's not a lot quantity wise. I feel that they can and should include more of the greens... to cover half the plate. I would've been more satisfied. I've heard that the Mediterranean diet is good for your heart. If that's the case, my heart is happy because I Olive Tree Cafe! One of my favorites is the falafel salad! First, the greens are fresh and bright with purple cabbage, onion slices, and sweet ruby red grape tomatoes. Meanwhile the dressing is light and lemony, so good I wish they would bottle and sell it! Then there's the falafels -- fried to a deep golden brown with a crispy outside and moist inside. The aromatic of combination of ground chickpeas and spices are complemented by homemade hummus. There must have been at least 8-9 of these golden nuggets! So generous! Another favorite is the chicken souvlaki... the grilled moist chicken has its own secret sauce and folded between warm pita with a side salad, it's a meal that will satisfy. Add a side of baba ghanoush -- the eggplant appetizer that'll make you love the purple veggie especially when accompanied by warm pita bread. The fava beans with tomato sauce is one that gets eaten by my friend's son before my fork can even hit the side dish. To see a boy enjoy a veggie dish just about tickles my toes. Be sure to ask about specials as last night they had an unusual lamb lasagna dish. It was wolfed down quickly by the teenager, with just enough left for the dad to have a couple of bites of this rich dish. We ordered ahead and did take out. So it's time to update this. Nothing has changed since the last time I've been here, but I feel like the place is a little more vibrant, more clean, more friendly, and the food is much better. The prices stayed the same as well, which is good considering the minimum wage and cost of goods and services has all gone up. It's still pretty much a fast food style place where you order at the counter, find a table, and go get your food when your number is called. We ordered the Hummus, which is very good. It tasted fresh with clean flavors of chickpeas and tahini, and had a very good texture and consistency. It wasn't anything like the store bought variety. The pita was warm, soft, and light. The Dolmadakia was very good. Nicely prepared and the filling was light and tasty with nice flavors. It went very well with the tzatziki sauce. Next was the Egg Lemon Soup. This was very good. It was light and creamy, and had the perfect amount of sourness from the lemon. We ended the meal with a piece of Baklava. It was good and a great way to end the meal. It was a little sweet for me, but the different textures and tastes from the walnuts, phyllo, and syrup were amazing. Overall, it was an excellent meal. The staff here are super friendly. They also have a busser who is very attentive and very quick to remove your empty plates and clean tables. I can see this place gets super busy with customers ordering in, phone orders, and take out orders. There's only one main person handling the front where another one prepares other items and moves the food out. I went back in line to order an extra pita because we had left over hummus, and the girl in front ignored me and the chef. I'm just there waiting to quickly pay my one dollar and get my pita and go, but the chef who I believe is the owner just let me go. I'm very grateful for that. read more

For Yelp's Big Night In, I decided to order takeout dinner from Olive Tree Cafe! It's one of my favorite spots for Greek food and gathering with friends because it's BYOB. My home is always BYOB so takeout is still great and I decided to make a special date night tablescape for me and my husband to enjoy our meal. Here's what we ordered: -Hummus with pita bread: This is always a must at Olive Tree Cafe and be sure to get extra pita bread. It seems as though they've altered the recipe slightly as the hummus tasted a little spicy. I actually liked this because it an extra level of flavor. -Mussels ceviche: I mainly ordered this for my husband but was pleasantly surprised at how much I also enjoyed them. There was a little garlic, ginger, parsley which made each bite tasty. -Chicken tslouvaki: Always my main dish which never lets me down, but occasionally I'll get fish. Big chunks of chicken with onions and seasoning in a soft pita. Be sure to get the sauce on the side, it's way too much for me personally. -Baklava: The other must order at Olive Tree Cafe.
