We had two chicken platters. One with hummus, yogurt sauce and grape leaves. The other over rice with yogurt sauce and tabouli. To be quite honest I was expecting much more from the yelp rating. The chicken was dry and tasted like it had sat under a warmer the majority of the day. The yogurt sauce was tasty but was given too much of it, I was stuck sitting there wondering what I was supposed to eat the rest of it with. The tabouli was mediocre, not as tasteful as I have had but still refreshing. The rice was nothing special, would benefit from some help from spices. The grape leaves were nice, a tad small from what I'm used too. The hummus was the best part of the meal, too bad the pita bread wasn't homemade. The man behind the register was nice and friendly. The price of the meal is fair for the portion size. Unfortunately I don't think I would return. read more

I don't know how I haven't written a review yet... best falafel in all of CT ( and I have been to dozens of other middle eastern restaurants in CT). Staff were not wearing masks when I went to the restaurant and didn't even put them on when I came into the restaurant. Love the food here, and we want to support local businesses during the pandemic. But, waiting 2 weeks to make sure I'm not sick--no falafel is worth that stress. When I walked in, both staff members were at the back of the restaurant, and I was on the only customer. I was looking at the shelves and coolers of prepared foods while I waited for my (previously called in) order, and I wasn't paying close attention to the staff members' appearance. Only when I was at the counter and he was running my credit card did I notice he didn't have a mask on. Didn't attempt to put one on, nothing. Just acted as if there's no global pandemic. Don't feel safe coming back--and if they're so lax with safety during a global pandemic, I'm hesitant about their safety record during normal circumstances... Ordered a chicken gyro to go. While I waited, was given a free falafel and hummus, both which were incredible and got me very excited for my meal to come. There are also several platters to choose from for a few dollars more which are heartier and include side dishes. I work right down the street, so its a quick and easy option for lunch. A recent remodel now makes this a nice spot to eat-in. If in a rush, you can also call in a to go order a few minutes ahead of time and it'll be ready when you arrive, however service is always very prompt! read more

Friendly staff and great prices. We had the mujaddara with kofte kebab and falafel wrap. I thought the falafel was great (wished I had seen the spicy option) along with the kofte kebab. The actual mujaddara was ok. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't probably order it again. It also came with a salad (tart lemony dressing) and yogurt that were enjoyable. They had lots of other choices I would be interested in trying next tune. My friend and I decided to give this place a try since they had vegan options for her and the Yelp reviews were positive. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't that positive. While waiting in line to order, we witnessed a staff member go from taking and order to touching food with a bare hand, no gloves and no hand wash in between. When it came time for my friend to order, they were out of what she wanted which was falafel. When it was my turn to order, they were out of what I wanted which was lamb. We settled on other items and were not that impressed. I'm not sure if it was due to arriving later in the night but in addition to being out of food items, my chicken was dry and I found a piece of hair underneath it. While two falafels were brought to the table at the end of our meal, we were disappointed based on all the positive reviews we had read. Maybe next time we will arrive earlier to hopefully have a better experience. read more

Falafel. I used to not like falafel very much until I came here. I came here with a co-worker who happens to be a regular. I order my usual lamb shawarma and it was good. But then.... They gave me a sample of their falafel in a little bowl with hummus. My life changed I am now a believer of falafel. I can probably go vegetarian now and live on falafel and hummus alone. Okay so I gave this place a second chance and I am so glad that I did. Last time they were out of lamb so I did not get to try it. So this time I ordered the lamb kofta platter and now begins quite the comedy. We picked up our order and realized that they gave us someone else's food (there was no lamb). Someone there called us (we were just going to let it go and never go back there) and profusely apologized and told us they messed up and offered our meal to us for free. Being a fan of Mamouns I decided to try this place out due to reviews and the suggestion of my significant other. Walked in and at first kinda thought it was a joke. Looks like a deli with a couple fold up chairs and tables throw about it n the kitchen, but i thought hey maybe they are so focused on their food & are more of a take out place they arent that interested in doing it up inside. Plus everything doesnt have about 4 layers of grease/dust on it like Mamouns SOOOO thats a plus! I ordered the hummus platter with chicken which came with two pitas, some sorta salad and another sorta salad thing (yeah im not that fluent with this type of food, but it was good!) and the boy had falafels. (Which I tried and they were awesssommmeeee) SO INCREDIBLY GOOD! it just tasted fresh and the chicken was actually moist and had a crap load of flavor. Yes a CRAP load, I said it. ANOTHER plus is you DONT HAVE to spend 20$ to use your credit card which being someone that doesnt carry around cash is a super plus. This food is cheap and its a rarity we come to about 20$ for the two of us and often at Mamouns we would find ourselves buying things JUST to come up to 20 bucks. NOT AT OLIVE TREE! What a disappointment. I have been coming to the Olive Tree sporadically over the years and it's been going downhill more and more since the day it opened. It's so unfortunate because the next nearest place with filafel is in New Haven. We ordered take out for 4 of us 45 minutes in advance of picking it up. Even after all that time, they were still cooking our food, yet somehow it was cold in the short drive home. We also realized they forgot one of our meals completely and didn't include nan with our meal when it specifically noted that it did. They also went WAY up on their prices - a used to be $6 dish is now $9.50. More than a 50% increase. Not OK. Overall, it was a major disappointment and after this fiasco I won't be back. Worst of all, the filafel is now cooked in these strange saucer-esque shaped forms and they cook unevenly and the texture was all wrong. They used to form them into small balls, but now it's all changed. Not sure what's going on here, but I'm not sticking around to find out. read more

I came here based on a recommendation from Mike at the Black Diamond Ink Tattoo in the same plaza. I ordered falafel, the hummus platter with kebbe, and a chicken shawerma. Hands down, the best falafel in Southern CT. When you order your falafel, they are *freshly* put into balls and fried in a cast iron pan. I recommend getting the falafel and a side of hummus to dip it in with their red chili sauce. The kebbe was excellent as well. Ok, so it's a hole in the wall... but the food is absolutely amazing. Chicken Shawerma is my absolute favorite... but the Falafel and kefta are amazing too. I introduced my picky boyfriend to Middle Eastern food here... knowing that if he didn't end up liking Olive Tree, there was no hope in him liking Middle Eastern food all together. He loved it, and actually gets craving's for it. The only downside to this little place, is that they don't deliver. I honestly think that I'd eat here 3x a week if they did. read more
