Came here for dinner second night in a row. We are in town dropping our son off at school. The food is so delicious. And the customer service is excellent. The appetizers are so good and there is a good variety to select from. The pasta selections are great and they all taste delicious. Our waitress Hannah was so professional and courteous. She was also patient with our questions. Tonight's manager, Taylor did an awesome job. He made sure to make his rounds and check on our table. He also was very courteous. Taylor had a good crew working tonight. Overall, Olives & Oil is a great restaurant that is highly recommended.

Service was great, food is awesome. Shocked the place isn't busier but it was Father's Day. The pasta is to die for. The sauce is amazing. So much flavor in the dish. This is my second time here, first time was for a pasta class which was a lot of fun and the meal that went along with that (eggplant parm make it vodka) was amazing. You can tell the pasta is fresh. Drinks were great, I got the mimosa flight and a screw driver. The only thing we weren't huge in was the pizza. It was good but not sure id get it again. Will def be back here tho!

Great atmosphere for a friend's dinner! Our waitress was very attentive and the timing of the meal progressed at a good pace. For appetizers we had the Brussel sprouts and broccolini. The brussel sprouts with bacon were delicious but the broccolini was overcooked so had no flavor. For an entree, I had the eggplant Parmesan in vodka sauce and it was a huge portion and delicious. 8 out of the 10 guests in our party took home leftovers.

I loved my experience at Olives and Oil in New Haven the ambiance of the restaurant was so cool and I loved the brick interior. The staff was so nice and gave great recommendations and answered all of our questions honestly. They brought out bread with olive oil (were even thoughtful enough to ask if anyone wanted it without red pepper flakes which I appreciated because I hate spicy food.) I tried the cinnamon crunch toast espresso martini and it was amazing. The drink menu had a lot of options, including an espresso martini flight which I thought was fun. Food was absolutely amazing with giant portions. I got the bottomless tortellini which was fresh made with ricotta cheese filling (I was nervous was going to be super heavy) but it was fresh, light and delicious. I started with the vodka sauce for the first round and moved to the Alfredo pesto on round 2 from the waiter's recommendation and it was 10/10. Another entree we ordered was the chicken Parmesan and it was massive, they gave a great portion of delicious chicken and the sauce was so good. I highly recommend Olives and Oil, will be coming back to try more!

It was our 1st time here. We appreciated the last min accommodation for my daughter's birthday...party of 4. However, is was uncomfortably hot and humid in the restaurant. The way the ice was served left a sweaty mess of water all over the table, menus, & our stuff. No napkins or spoon for sauce or pasta. Had to ask for a spoon w my spaghetti, therefore you can tell it's not authentic Italian cuisine. My favorite, cacio e pepe was served so salty I couldn't take more than 2 bites. Drinks were average. Service was regular. 5.5 out of 10.

We stopped in after a show and were immediately seated without reservations. The restaurant was nicely decorated for the holidays. We were seated at one of their booths, but they had high top tables and bar seating as well. I started with the butternut squash soup which was the best part of my meal. I really enjoyed of, especially with the day being so cold. For my entree I had the steak with garlic butter which was cooked at a perfect medium rare. My girlfriend had the branzino which was a very large portion. She enjoyed it. Overall we enjoyed or meal.

Food could've been better, it was cold. The ambiance and vibe wad good, the drinks were good and service was decent. Went with some friends when we were home for thanksgiving, which may be the reason for the food not being up to par. Would try again, but nothing to race about.

Ask the Community - Olives and Oil

Do they have gluten free options?

Yes we have ample options for gluten free guests. We are putting out a new menu within the next few weeks which will add even more options for our guests who suffer from gluten allergies and celiac disease.…

    How's the brunch?

Outstanding. They have an all you can eat waffle bar for $12 with all the fixings. We are back this week to try it. Last weekend, I got the prosciutto & melon Benedict. It was delicious and creative.

Between Frank Pepe's and BAR, my friend, a Yale student, prefers the latter, and as a mere tourist,…read moreI deferred the decision to her. Man, so glad I did. We arrived on a Monday around peak dinner time, but there was essentially no wait (apparently uncommon according to my friend -- just a delightful consequence of dining at a college town during the summer). We split a medium pizza (1/2 elote mexican street corn and 1/2 bbq brisket), proving to be more than enough for two plus a more than ample amount of leftovers. Recently, I've gravitated toward thinner pizzas, a far cry from the typical Detroit (foccacia-esque) style pizzas I used to prefer, and BAR's pizza is akin to a flatbread yet very thin, another fallen angel to the GLP's. The undercarriage boasts a brilliant crust, almost cracker-like. However, it should be noted that the pizza is indulgent all the same. The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The service is also impeccable, almost rivaling that of southern hospitality. I always thought Californians were friendly but something is in the air every time I visit New Haven. Incredible!

Based on a recommendation, four friends and I visited for an earlier dinner on Cinco de Mayo (yes,…read morewrong type of cuisine, but we were in town and this restaurant was on our list.) BAR is an interesting restaurant: open air, picnic tables, open space, paper plates, no utensils unless you ask for them, etc. We were greeted right away by a less than friendly waiter who seemed peeved we didn't have a drink to order right away. Strike one. After a few minutes, everyone put their drink order in and I asked if the bartender could make me a mojito since it wasn't on the menu. The waiter said yes, so I waited. Then came the mojito. It was the worst "mojito" I've tasted in my life. I'm not one to send a drink back because of an "I don't taste any alcohol" excuse, but this was BAD. It tasted like margarita mix with lime and mint sprigs thrown in. It was absolutely terrible. When I double checked with the waiter if the drink was an original mojito he simply said yes, not "is something wrong with the drink?" or "would you like to send it back?" The drink was so bad I told him I couldn't drink it. He was peeved again. Strike two. I asked for a soft drink instead and the soda was flat (strike 3), but at this point I just needed something to drink... because who wants to have water with their pizza? Then came the time to make a dinner choice. My mission was to try the mashed potato pizza. It was hands down AMAZING!! Mashed potatoes and bacon on a pizza. Yes, please!! This was the only saving grace from my experience. I would return to BAR again if only for that pizza! Two of my friends had the clam pizza and the pepperoni/mushroom. Both enjoyed their own! Warming: New Haven pizza is thin crust. I got two meals out of a small, so if you visit with a group, consider ordering a few small pizzas so you can taste a few. I would've given BAR 4 or 5 stars, but the unpleasant waiter, the "mojito," and the flat sofa made for a trifecta, so I'm giving my visit 3 stars. If I find myself in New Haven again, I'll be back! Hopefully my next update will be 5 stars!
