I'm the type of person that likes to do my research before going somewhere and I'm super picky about everything from my hair, to my nails, to food. This salon is the real deal. I've been going to this salon for over a year now. I have had the extensions in for over a year as well. I have done everything here from having my hair black, to brown, highlights, Brazilian blowouts. When I came in my hair was just above my shoulders and a frizzy mess. Within the last year my hair has grown to just above my waist. This is with lightening it, with the extensions and with regular haircuts. My hair has improved tremendously. You always hear horror stories about extensions and how they can make your hair fall out. That is true if you go to places that don't have a clue about what they are doing. I know that if I continue to come here my hair will continue to grow and improve over time. While realistically my hair is long enough to no longer wear the extensions, I love the added volume. Too many negatives to list but here it goes. I arrived early and understandably, the colorist was working on another client and told me to come back. She was helpful and even gave me the name of a local cute coffee shop that was perfect to wait until my appointment. She was not ready when I returned. I waited for her but had no problem with this because to me, it meant she was giving the care and attention to her client. It was my first visit so I took that as a good sign. When she did come to me- we talked about what I wanted and I showed her pictures. She understood what I was looking for and it was easy to communicate with her. She did take a few jabs at the poor job my normal stylist did on my color but I took it in stride because I was there because I felt I needed another opinion on my color. She tended to me very well during this first 1.5 hours. I was getting half head of highlights and single process. I asked quite a few questions while she worked on me and I apologized for asking so many questions and I thanked her. I genuinely felt she was helpful answering my questions and I told her so. She responded by saying that she would of course answer my questions and that if hairdressers were annoyed by questions that means "they are doing something wrong and are defensive." Her exact words. While she was working on my hair, her next clients called to say they were running late due to traffic. She said a few unfavorable things about these clients to me which left a bad taste in my mouth but apparently one of them was rude to one of the gentleman that work at the salon. Fast forward and my highlights and low lights are applied with the help of her assistant and I sit and wait. Her other 2 clients come in and she begins working on both of them. My timer goes off a half hour or so later and she never comes over to check on me. She is in full on conversations with her 2 clients (mother and daughter). I time it and it is now 15 minutes at my time went off. I was panicked that the dye (bleach?) would ruin my hair. I approached her and let her know the timer went off and asked if it was important to rinse me and she said no. She told me she sets the timer just so she knows something or other- I don't even know what she said because she barely looked at me and kept talking to her clients. I was now frustrated and felt that I was bothering her and very unimportant. To top it off, it felt like a mean girls club because I got dirty looks from her other clients for interrupting their conversation. My husband was at the salon with me waiting patiently in the reception area. After another 10 minutes with no attention or check in (she didn't check my hair for at least 20 minutes after my timer went off), I went over to my husband and asked him what I should do as I was very upset. At that point I am scolded by the hairdresser for getting up from my chair and that now she has to give me a new robe and clean up my mess. I was outraged but felt I had little options because I had close to 30 foils in my hair. She went on to ridicule and taunt me the rest of the time. Everything from my hair took extra long because I "walked around with orange hair" and it didn't lift to "I saw your texts- everyone did" and you are complaining about me. WHAT!? You read my texts to my husband?! From there it went horribly downhill with the other client telling me I was the rude one. They chastised me and giggled and whispered the entire time. Honestly- I left ok because my hair was not ruined however, she did a horrible job covering my gray. At this point in my process we were in a full on petty argument that I refused to engage in and just wanted to get out of there. So my highlights are fine, gray is not covered correctly /fully (AND I DIDN'T HAVE MUCH) and I feel horribly disrespected. I was there almost SIX HOURS for half a head of highlights and single process and bang trim. I spent over $700 including tip (20%). I was also charged for a blow out and didn't have a blow out. If you ask why I didn't question the charges- that would have been very ugly with the mean girls club. read more

My journey with Christina started on February 2 2023 before coming to Christina I had been following her work for years through social media and even when her show aired on TLC (Hair Goddess) I was even more convinced that this is who I wanted to bless my hair since every single result had been wonderful for anyone she had touched. Fast forward I paid a deposit for $104.50 that I paid to Christensen salon's on February 1, 2023 and had my appointment for consultation on the 2nd rather than get work done. Now before I went in to her salon I had gotten a keratin done at unnamed salon on the 2nd of January ( a month before my initial appointment) and was well aware of how healthy my hair was since I had been keeping it natural and taking care of it for more than 5 months prior to the procedure because as you know hair along with eyebrows MAKE the face, my hair was healthy, strong and shining before I made the mistake of trusting this person with a hair she is unable to work in. If you are not within the 1A-2B hair type please spare yourself the bad experience of visiting this or the Staten Island salon as I can assure you by the time that they are done with you there will be no hair left on your head specially if you leave it on for more than two months (she had said I could have the extensions for up to a year before having to take them off again. So, I paid $2, 142.25 for Indian slight wave 2N (12) bundles and $500 for maintenance (which never happened because I took the hair off instead of carrying out the maintenance since the damage to my hair was starting to be noticeable) the day before the consultation I washed my hair at home and used my regular hair routine products and then I got it blow dried and flat ironed so that it would be ready for her to see it and tell me a date to get them installed came the day of my appointment I went in for the initial consultation she sees my hair as soon as I take it out of the ponytail and her words were "honey you have A LOT of hair" and made a frustration face and sighed which I am well aware of and I told her that I kew hence why I was choosing her to work on my hair extensions because I had been following her for a while, we started talking about a possible date to get the hair done and she was mentioning something along the lines of a month before she could do my hair and the reason why she was trying to make the appointment so far was because and I quote "I'm just going in for surgery to remove this little extra belly fat that's been killing me for a while and since my sister is getting her boobs done she told me to come with her and I said why not and thought it's a great opportunity to also take care of this so I won't be in for the next few weeks as I am getting surgery on the 25th and don't have availability until further notice" so I asked her what could she do as I had an important upcoming trip and would be out of country for some time as well so the date she was offering me didn't work and I expressed to her so she was quiet for a few minutes, she looked around and started looking for some hair asked me if I wanted to keep that color or that if I wanted to change it to something darker she had hair available from another work she had completed recently and that she wads able to accomodate me for that sesame day, dye my hair and install the extensions then and there if I wanted before she left for surgery and I agreed because again THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL WHO KNOWS WHAT SHE IS DOING AND I AM TRUSTING THAT SHE KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT SHE IS DOING. In response to your comment: Hair was not colored to match perfectly upon instal, the color issue became apparent after i left the salon and my husband pointed out the color difference. ON the second visit the color was glazed- unwillingly which eventually faded back to the orange color. I have not been a client for a year I had the instal done in the middle of june and had 4 maintenance appointments the last being in early February (7.5 months). I did offer to pay for the removal, in fact i was there for 10 minutes after my appointment trying to pay you for the service that was rendered- the removal of the extensions. You did not wish to accept payment for the removal you instead demanded payment for services that were not rendered (instal of the new extensions) and when I asked you so you don't want me to pay for removal, you said no and insisted I pay for the extensions. This is called waiving the fee. When I said I don't want to pay for services not rendered you stole my property. GRAND LARCENY IS A FELONY IN NEW YORK STATE! read more

Little did I know I was embarking on my hair loss journey sponsored by Olivia Christensen Salon's. On the 14th of February after the hair had been tangling in the back towards the end for days and I had already followed all the steps she had recommended as well as using her hair products and nothing else on my hair I finally decided to reach out to her and make her aware of the situation because it was starting to mess with my self-esteem and I was becoming desperate as I didn't know what else to do to fix this, I made her aware of the situation and her reply was (and you will see it on the screenshots I am posting below) "how often are you brushing it? I'm wearing the same hair as you only difference is mine is much longer and I don't have any knots" which wasn't the reply I was looking for to the hair getting tangled even after I had just finished brushing it with the super looper hair brush that she had told me since day 1 that I needed to get two take care of the hair, when a customer reaches out about a concern on a product that you provided they are not looking for you to tell them that THEY aren't having the same issue or just being dismissed in such any unprofessional way I had no answer as this was on Valentine's day I had ton wash my hair homeland sit down for two hours to untangle the hair little bye little and then went to the salon to get it blow dried and curled which was another mission and the girl that did my hair had a hard time as well as she would untangle the hair ad it would tangle right bank up, it had friction and was starting to look all split at the ends. On the 17th I texted her back again regarding the same issue as literally the day after valentines the hair was back to square one with knots that were bigger and there was just no brush that could get into it I expressed my frustration and told her that if she couldn't fix this that I was interested in receiving a PARTIAL refund and that I was having to untangle the hair 3 times IN ONE DAY and even then I told her it wasn't really about the money and how I was interested in fixing the hair but if she failed I would have to get another professional to work on my hair so that I would be somewhat satisfied with the hair. I received an answer from her or Kim I am not too sure who it was as the text message starts off in 3rd person which makes me think that maybe somebody else started writing it. The message started "Hi Yasmin, Firstly Christina has surgery this week and will not be back in the salon until 2/25. There is no such person as Olivia or Samantha. SANDRA has colored and cut your hair, if you are referring to her she will be in the salon 2/23 and can see you at 3:45pm that day. Unfortunately there is no money back so we would like the opportunity to make you happy and fix it." I already had an appointment set up for the 23rd that I had made on my last visit to the salon but still I told her of me coming in to speak with her regarding the hair. On the day of the appointment on 2/23 arrived at the salon with the hair in the same conditions that I had sent her the pictures in hopes that she would be able to see how HER hair was the problem and that I indeed was having problems with it, she was not at the salon unfortunately so only Sandra, Kim and the lady who washes the hair were able to see that I was, in fact, not exaggerating when I said there was no solution to the hair even after they tried to untangle the hair themselves and it wasn't working, Sandra proceeded to tel the lady that was washing my hair to not untangle it as it seem like it would take long and proceeded to put own the Brazilian to untangle the hair with it. After leaving the the salon the hair was ok maybe for like 3 days before we were right back to square one and the knots got worse, I made the decision of taking the hair off and texted Christina that instead of doing maintenance for my match appointment I would be removing them, came the day of getting them removed and the use of unnecessary strength that was used to remove them by both Chrisitina and her apprentice who had the audacity after she was done untangling and removing all the beads "if she was hurting me" in conclusion I had to face racism and Iack of professionalism from beginning to end with this place and even though I asked nicely for my refund there was no reply and no refund hence why I am taking this public and all the way. I came in for a consultation when I was just in remission for cancer. Anthony and Christina were kind, patient and honest. They suggested I come back when my hair was a bit longer to get the optimal result. I did and am so glad I listened! I now get my hair cut and colored here as well as weekly blowdrys, all with Sandra. After one year I replaced the extensions I had. Below pictures are before extensions, regrowth after one year and how my hair looks now. My hair is in great condition and growing, the extension technique they use is gentle and not damaging to my hair at all. Coming here was the best decision I made. It is beyond difficult to find anyone who can deal with my limp, thin and raggedy tresses. For years (and years and years) I have struggled to address this situation and it always reverted to the stylist who could provide the best bob in order to plump up by sagging strands. Today was something entirely different at the Olivia Christensen Salon. Hair extentions! First, just let me say I experienced the most pampering here than I have ever had in my life. Each of the girls -- Sandra, Bella and Cristina -- are incredibly sweet and really want you to have an amazing experience. Just looking at the three of them, who are absolutely gorgeous themselves, makes one convinced they know their stuff. And know their stuff they do. During my consultation, Cristina thoroughly explained everything in great detail and allayed all of my fears concerning additional damage to my (wispy, thin and sad) existing hair. She was very thorough in defining exactly how the process worked, what I could expect (more hair!!!), the upkeep (special shampoo, no oils) and even the cost (expensive, I gotta say). First, my hair was colored by the talented Lena who mixed up a shade that perfectly suited my skin tone. The extension application by Cristina, using hair that was dyed to match my new color exactly, was relatively quick. I then moved to the amazing Sandra who cut my hair to the perfect length and blended the extensions so they couldn't be seen. The result was unbelievable and it is fair to say that I hardly recognized myself. I definitely looked years younger but even more astonishing was that I actually had hair! Glorious, beautiful, thick and shiny hair. If your hair is (was) like mine I can only scream "RUN" to Olivia Christensen. I actually had makeup applied to finish my look and can confidently say the gorgeous Bella is a miracle worker with her potions and brushes. My own experience at the salon was made all the more fun by watching Victoria artistically blend the strands which are used in the extensions. Integral to the experience was Anthony who happily banters with clients and staff alike while keeping a firm hand on the business side. But the real testament to how good this place is? I cannot say enough good things about this salon. After going to another great salon for 7 years, I thought it was time to switch it up. When this salon opened right next door I thought I'd give it a shot. Not only is it gorgeous, every person inside is friendly and helpful. When I called and spoke to Anthony, he provided details and never once seemed annoyed with my questions. He made me feel very comfortable about making the switch and recommended Maria for a cut and balayage. Maria was AMAZING and gave me a gorgeous honey-toned treatment. overpriced and low quality - but at least they're rude to you! make up a lot of silly rules just to force you to pay more and more - "required" maintenance, throwing out extensions rapidly, etc. look at other salons before being dazzled by the performance. the guy at front of the house (think it's her cousin or nephew?) is particularly catty, gossipy, and rude. but the owner sets the tone and she is arrogant and can often be mean-spirited & condescending. compared to other salons at the price point really don't treat the customers well - no offers of beverages while you wait, etc. also a big price difference between their manhattan and staten island locations. look elsewhere and then go elsewhere read more

I have been using these extensions for about 10 years now. I first started going to Christina back in 2010 when I decided to chop off all my hair and of course hated it. It's been 7 years that's I've had these extensions in and not once have I experienced any damage with my own hair. The quality of these extensions are absolutely amazing. I've gotten my hair died by Izabella and the blending is perfect. At least once a day I have someone say to me I love your hair or I wish I had your color. Christina and everyone at her salon are there to make you feel like the best you possible. I've experienced going to other salons and walking about feeling ugly or hating what they did. This was, without a doubt, THE best hair salon experience I have ever, EVER had. And I have the sort of (problematic) hair that makes it difficult for me to be able to make such statements lightly. Even in the best and most experienced of hands, my hair is "very difficult to make look good" (as one particularly forthright casting director once told me, and it happens to be true). Full disclosure: I heard about this salon through the extremely honest and helpful YouTube videos of a fashion model named Jessica Clements (yes, she has wonderful hair to begin with, but any approximation of her haircut would have been like discovering the Holy Grail for me). I went to the same stylist Jessica went to and I will all-cap her name because, if I could, I would actually write it in the skies: JENNIFER!!!! Jennifer is finally THE ONE who could make my hair actually "happen" for me. Please know, this feat has been unprecedented by any stylist, at any price or experience level (and I am old enough to have gone through many, many stylists in many, many salons, old enough to have cried through bad perms and body waves even!). What is also amazing about Jennifer is that she is actually so young and only at the beginning of what is sure to be a hugely successful career. I have no hesitation in saying that, even at her tender age, she is FAR, FAR more gifted and capable than people with 30 years more experience and way more industry buzz surrounding them. And it doesn't stop there. Jennifer also possesses a positively golden personality in every way. She is intelligent, knows how to listen to what your needs are and what your hair issues are, knows how to analyze and how to separate myths from true realities, is IMMENSELY kind, is fiercely passionate about what she does, is truly invested in her clients looking as good as possible and being as HAPPY as possible and is innately a phenomenal artist and craftswoman. Not only did she finally SOLVE my life-long and rather torturous (and seemingly futile) quest for a layering technique that could actually work on my hair type (which, I repeat, is extremely difficult and resistant at holding any shape or style) but she even STYLED it in a way that actually gave my hair the volume it has never had before after a professional styling job (I have always left a salon with the standard overly "flattened," face-clinging hair which I couldn't wait to shampoo out). I wish I could keep this hairstyle all week and this, too, is startlingly unprecedented. I will be going back to her for color (she does that too and I already love her suggestions for the possibilities of adding some color dimension to my oh-so-easily-damageable hair as well as covering up stubborn grays--two other Holy Grails that had seemed impossibly out of reach). I will even have her cut some clip-on extensions I had bought some time ago that are a bit on the long side, just...well...just because she's THAT great and I trust her abilities completely. As to the salon: it is gorgeous, relaxed and very cutting edge on the products. A peaceful little haven with the aura of being a "best kept secret in NYC"...but I doubt it will be for long. I came here a couple weeks ago for a consult, after being told my hair would cost almost 3000 just for the extensions not including the cut or color I felt very put on the spot not expecting it to be so expensive considering that the length of the extensions weren't nearly as long as my hair was currently at the time. I told Olivia I'd need to think about it and she urged me to put down a deposit saying that if I didn't I'd lose the hair and what not. She then told me the deposit is usually 800$ which is ridiculous and I was not ready to leave a deposit that large I told her all I could do was 400$ because it was the only room I had on my credit card she nicely was able to Accommodate me with this. Her assistant then brought over some paper work and told me I needed to sign agreeing to the cost of the service and the price of the touch ups which was about 600$ a month, I stupidly just signed without thoroughly reading. After leaving I realized I had made a mistake and I would not be able to afford the hair at least not anytime in the near future and the more I thought about it the thought of spending 600$ a month on hair was always going to be out of my budget so I emailed Anthony less than 2 hours after leaving the salon telling him I had changed my mind and would consider getting my hair done at a later date when I was in a better financial spot. He did not email me back for a day until I sent an email asking if they need my info to refund me back for the deposit in which he told me I could not have my money back and then sent a picture of the signed contract. Honestly I was shocked considering I had just left the salon and had not cost them any money or time I had paid 100$ just to even meet with Olivia for 15 minutes and not to mention Olivia pushed me into putting a deposit down and never once mentioned the deposit was non refundable and neither did Anthony when he was explaining what to sign on the papers. I understand this is a business and I should have read the contract thoroughly but I found it to be extremely greedy and un compassionate especially after I told them I was not in a good financial space. Anthony then proceeded to email me saying they have cheaper hair, I do not understand why Olivia did not give me options she sold me their most expensive hair, urged me to put a deposit down when I told her I needed to think and put me on the spot and then tells me I can't have my 400$ deposit back. I find this to be extremely poor costumer service. They said that they will hold the deposit for me when I want to get my hair done. But the price and the experience has made me not want either. I think the thing that was most disappointing was how incredibly sweet Olivia was at the salon. I really don't understand why they wouldn't just give me my deposit back when the reason I put the money down was to hold onto the hair, if I don't need the hair why do you need my deposit? Seems very greedy to me especially since I contacted the Salon 2 hours after leaving. All this being said I think Olivia does amazing work but the sales and the costumer service need to be improved upon it's extremely shady to not mention something so expensive is nonrefundable and then hitting the costumer with a "well you signed a contract" read more
