Great spot for a date night. I suggest coming here in the summer when they open the walls and make the restaurant appear larger, and filled with that special summer night air. The food was great. They had the biggest mussels that I ever ate. We didn't enjoy the foie gras because it had an overwhelming amount of apple sauce on the bottom which overpowered the gentle flavour the main attraction. We ordered halibut special which was prepared to perfection, and the sides were amazing. I find that too many restaurants have carbs as their sides, and we appreciated the simple yet extremely flavorful preparation of the sides as well. We also ordered the braised beef which was extremely tender and flavorful. Ordered a latte to finish off the meal, and it was done to perfection as well. This is a spot that I will definitely come back to. read more

3 1/2 stars! A nice place for brunch. Not crowded and they actually take reservations This place reminds me so much of the cafes in Paris, with ample outdoor seating. The indoor seating is not too closed off that you still enjoy the outdoor. The lattes here are strong and creamy. Had to get a second cup. They don't have a long list of brunch item. Many are served with poached egg, so if you are allergic to eggs, the menu will be very limited. I had the egg feuilette and hubby had the burger which was served on an English muffin. The burger was cooked to perfection with the right amount of seasoning. There was an option to have bacon which he passed. My dish was made of tomato marmalade, anchovies, tomatoes, olives, poached egg over puffed pastry. First bite was wonderful, but then became too salty for my taste. I think it had too much anchovies and olives, and not enough of the pastry. I wished the ratio could be better. The servers were attentive however, and will certainly give it a try again maybe for dinner. read more

I had a fantastic dinner here with my dad recently. He had the pork chop special and I had the fish of the day, striped bass. The pork chop was gigantic and everything was delicious. We made a reservation a day before using YELP (yay YELP! for being so very COOL!) Its a cute, small, dimly lit place and casually romantic enough for a first date! Now to the food: I have mixed feelings about each dish. First, mushroom truffle soup was just OK. I guess I just don't like Mushroom soup. Next, I had the pasta special which was Spaghetti pasta with shrimps, octopus, and clams. The sauce was black so It looked really interesting. BUT, the taste was SO VERY Tasteless. I couldn't even figure out what the dish wanted to taste like. So sad. I could be wrong but I sort of felt like the food was not made to order. It seemed like it was sitting for awhile. Not sure about this though. Lastly, we also ordered the steak with french fries. French Fries were yummy...Can't go wrong with french fries. The Steak was nice and tender. I'd say just order this and be done with the rest. For Dessert, we had the apple pie with ice cream. But no crust! I was really looking forward to the crust! So, I didn't enjoy this one either. Olivier Bistro was the choice for my birthday brunch. We headed in on a Sunday morning around 11am, and they were able to seat our party of six right away. It is a super cute restaurant that also has outdoor seating on the sidewalk out front. I've never been to Paris, but another reviewer remarked that it reminded them of a bistro in Paris, which made me really happy. I ordered the Eggs Norvegiene for my meal. They were very tasty, and it was just the right amount of food, so I didn't feel like I needed an after brunch nap. My only complaint was that the eggs were supposed to be poached, but instead the yolks were hard. He got La Tartine D'Olivier and said it was absolutely amazing! Just a note, they are cash or Discover card only, so plan ahead. This was a very cute spot for brunch, and I would definitely recommend it. read more

The food is absolutely delicious. The halibut was very fresh, flavorful, and well portioned. The mussels were delicious and largely sized. In general, all of the food was very good. I just have a small negative comment -- the apple patte had way too much apple added and it overwhelmed the flavor and proportion of the patte. I recommend coming here during the warmer months when they open up the front walls and you can sit outside or by the opening. It's a fairly small restaurant so it may get a bit too loud when your enclosed in the winter. read more

So the food is delicious the service is amazing. They have a lot f outdoor tables set up for covid purposes and the distance between the tables is great. Again the food is amazing I had the hung steak which was great halabat speacial was so so good melted in my mouth ahhh It was good . They had great trees set up all around about 7 seperate trees just beautiful. Ok so the reason that I'm taking a star and I would take a half if possible but they don't except credit cards or debit cards only American Express which isn't normal. And they do have a debit card machine which only allows to take out 160 my bill was 150 means I had to use it twice and there fee was 2.75 plus bank fee I felt that was a bit unfair in today's. Easily one of the most memorable venues I have visited in a long time. From start to finish every moment of the experience was top notch. I was looking for a bistro that was open early in the morning (7:00am and this one was en route to work). I called and spoke to a nice staff who took my order over the phone. The breakfast options looked good but I was in the mood for a lunch sandwich; so I settled for a veggie sandwich (ciabatta bread with two eggs, cheese and avocado). When I got to the cafe, I had to wait a bit even though I was the first and only customer (from my observation). The eatery is petite in size but its cute and cozy with a French flair. I can imagine brunch hours being extremely busy. But groups can still have fun here. After a ten minute wait, I received my breakfast and enjoyed every bite. The ciabatta was nicely toast yet soft. The entire sandwich was very tasty. I knew my day would be good afterwards. Unfortunately, this eatery is still cash only (sad face) but accepts Amex as it's only credit card payment. I had the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant with the server at this seemingly lovely Bistro I had been meaning to try since I moved here a couple of months ago. I went inside by myself on a rainy evening. The woman who sat me was very nice. Then a man came over from the bar and was immediately irritated and confrontational about reciting the specials, and said they did not want to if I did not want to hear them, he was angry and oddly accusatory - it was weird. He left and I looked over the menu and decided to let it pass, I have many friends who have worked in the restaurant industry, or started their own restaurants. It's hard work and I deeply respect that. I worked my way through college as a server in restaurants. I respect the work. But this server came back and continued to be angry and odd, very off putting and even argumentative - why? Very strange. So I left. Not worth it. I had planned on a nice dinner on a rainy night in a lovely neighborhood place, and now will never go back. I hope the manager and/or owner understands that this employee is driving customers away. My favorite French Bistro. I've been to a few in the tri state area and this is by far my favorite... still have to have the brunch which is really my flavor but if it's anything like the yummy comfort food ... bœuf bourguignon almost like grandma's, as per Olivier, Grandma's is still better but after a few months they got it close, brunch will be equally comforting. Well it was amazing, comforting and caused me to grab the last piece of bread to dip in the rest of the sauce. We started with a delectable meat and cheese platter which comes out in perfect presentation on a wooden cutting board. Bread, 2 types of cheese, salamini, prosciutto, grapes bursting with sweetness, gerkins & walnuts. A great starter for a wonderful cozy meal. So cozy and cute this 4th ave restaurant and bar manages to make you feel as though you're not sitting across from a tire store and a neon sign for a bodega. It's romantic with great outdoor seating in the summer. I went on Sunday and had the $1 Oyster deal and wasn't disappointed. We ordered shisito peppers, burger and chicken breast. Overall very tasty but a little on the salty side. The burger comes with an english muffin as a bun which is odd. The grilled octopus appetizer came with delicious grilled fingerling potatoes, asparagus, cherry tomatoes and jalapeño peppers, the last of which I chose to cut up and eat with the octopus. We had our Thanksgiving dinner here and everything was AMAZING! Started off with delicious French onion soup and crispy calamari, then moved on to turkey dinner for me and hangar steak for my husband. Both meals were incredibly flavorful. Ended night with lattes and creme brulee - super satisfying. I also loved that we had our own private little tent. We went for a dinner and ordered salad and some desert. They brought us coffee right away. After we have been waiting for more than 1 hour they asked us to wait 10 more minutes and kept promising that it's almost ready. We waited 20 more minutes and after all left hungry. The waitress was so mad because he was getting a lot of same complaints. 1.5 stars. The charcuterie portions are really pathetic- it's $7 per item. For example we ordered Saucisson Sec and we got 7 small pieces. Of the cheeses, we got 2 thin slices, also $7 each. We asked about subbing mashed potatoes for fries- they would charge '3 or 4 dollars' and were told by the waitress that she isn't the boss so she doesn't make the rules... these two items cost the same as sides. So, that doesn't make sense. We also ordered escargot- something we order often. The texture was wrong. One person at our table ordered mussels- they were delish. Won't ever come back. I live in the neighborhood and just came here for a birthday brunch today, although I've been here countless times for both celebratory and everyday occasions. Olivier creates fresh, flavorful dishes with perfectly satisfying portions. From traditional brunch items like eggs Benedict to more classic French dinner classics like foie gras and duck cassoulet, Olivier Bistro offers items that are rich and delicious--yet still light enough to enjoy dessert afterwards. My husband and I love Olivier's creative, elevated take on some of our favorites. I often overindulge on hollandaise, so I was initially a little dissatisfied to see how thin theirs looked on my eggs Benedict--until I realized how their light, buttery sauce perfectly complemented the poached eggs' thick yolk and was absorbed in just the right way by the English muffin. The same goes for their apple tart: it's actually cooked sliced apples (as you would expect to find in a tart or a pie) formed into a circular shape using a cylindrical mold, then topped with a cute little scoop of coconut ice cream. It's not overly sweet, and there's not a bit of tart dough to be found--and, surprisingly, that makes it better! Beautiful flavor profiles, lovely light dishes, and just the right amount of fat and salt to leave you feeling satisfied but not bloated. The staff is always so pleasant and lovely, and has even accommodated some food substitutions or unusual requests. In the daytime, the open storefront creates a breezy, serene brunch location, and in the evening, the warm wood hues and candlelight make for a perfect romantic ambience. We used to go to this place quite a few times until this last time when our group was served by a mid-aged woman who seemed so sweet at first. It was an oyster special night and I ordered some for me and my gf. Then more people arrived to our party and ordered more oysters. Later on it looked like she screwed up with the order and never placed another order for our friends. When she was asked about the order - guess what? Instead of being professional and apologizing for the mistake - she blamed me for stealing the oysters! Why me? Because I stepped out for a second and I suppose was the easiest target to blame. Stand out from our meal that I remember is hanger steak, Stark tartar and the calamari. Table bread was also good but they only give you 4 or 5 pierces and we had three people among us. Be careful of dining inside when they ask you for your phone number. I believe it was the manager or MOD telling me it was only for the law and would receive no unsolicited messages at all. Within seconds of giving my number, I got an email saying I made a reservation at Olivier Bistro. How did they get my email when I only gave my number? I didn't make a reservation at all. When I confronted the MOD about this, there was no apology but just endless explanations about the law, like I'm an idiot. I understand if that's the law, but he personally told me I wouldn't receive unsolicited messages, but that's exactly what happened. Next time, open up that confrontation with an apology about being wrong instead of explaining the law to me over and over again like I'm a moron. Guy wouldn't listen to a word I was saying and just kept explaining the law. Such an insult. So disappointed in this experience. read more

Just had the worse experience ever. I placed an order for delivery which after 3 hours never showed. I contacted the restaurant 3 times and was informed twice my delivery so kind be picked up soon. Eventually i was told the delivery person was nowhere to be found. No one takes blame, and now I'm forced to wait for a refund and go elsewhere for a meal. Worse experience ever. After the loss of Cafe 474 across the street, the area has been yearning for a new cafe ... and its finally arrived after months of coffeelessness in the form of Olivier French Bistro. Right now, the business is limited to a coffee counter and weekend brunch. Full service to come. The space is cozy, with a coffee bar on one side and a full bar on the other, a few table scattered between. Stopped in for a morning coffee, and barista was pleasant - although he did not know what kind of coffee they served. (He produced the bag instead). A few tips: 1) Get wifi during the day- its good to have people linger in your cafe, 2) Advertise that you are serving Crop to Cup coffee. Its amazing coffee, local, and sourced. Why shroud it in mystery. 3) Make your pastries look more appetizing by putting it in a nicer display or telling us if its baked on premises or where its from. A lone scone here and a croissant there is kinda sad. 4) Have a welcome to the neighborhood party when a full menu launches. It will get good buzz and possibly press. Overall, the place has tons of potential for jumpstarting 4th Avenue and possibly creating a 3rd Avenue-like food scene. I hope they are working on making their menu extra yummy since Olivier can really be a jolt for the area. read more

Unfortunately my gf was sick so she couldn't enjoy her meal, but that didn't stop me from inhaling mine; if anything it kind of worked out because her Benedict was awesome. My steak was good. Sometimes with steaks in the morning, places seem to get not-so-great cuts of meat--but I was happy to find that it was better than expected. Went for brunch on the 4th of July with my fiancee. Slow service and bad food: not coming back ever again. We ordered: - The escargots to start: which were OK. Did not love them. - Steak frites MR: It wasn't good at all. We barely had two pieces because it had a meat taste of a sweaty cow and it was just tasteless. We even got up to ask for steak sauce and they did not have it. How am I supposed to eat a piece of dry and smelly meat? (They should really make sure that they are getting a good cut from their vendors or get a chef that knows how to prepare the meat) - Burger R: it came out more like M and It was terrible. The burger was all soft and smoochy. Definitely not something you would like in your mouth. At the time, there was a sweet girl working that was making the coffee, and serving the food. She approached a table because they needed something. Instantly the french guy (what appears to be the owner and our waiter) yells "Don't take any orders!"... And then they argue about how they did not had steak sauce for us. The way you communicate with the staff affects the experience of your customers. You don't want to run an establishment where you show customers how bad you treat your staff. (We saw the girl leaving the place at 11am right when it started getting busy and before world cup: maybe she went shopping or maybe...) We did not complain at the time because the guy (what appears to be the owner) was running the place by himself, and by the time we needed his attention, he wasn't around. Olivier is such a gracious host. My child and I pass his bistro daily, and he is always there with a friendly smile and a high five. I love the simple decor, open and airy atmosphere, friendly service and the open line of communication he has with his customers. He is always asking how everything was and whether there is any way to improve anything. The seafood is absolutely the freshest ever. I've had mussels and oysters and both were truly delicious. I've tried the steak and it was cooked to perfection. The french fries are perfectly salted and seasoned, and fried up just right. There is a nice selection of wines by the glass, carafe or bottle. My friend was visiting from Canada and I brought her and she loved the place so much, she begged me to join her there for dinner on her next visit. Olivier offers great 2 for 1 drink deals at least once a week. Also, stop by for really good strong coffee in the morning, which you can pair with yummy pastries.
