Amazing addition to the neighborhood. There are plenty of seats and plenty of customers on a Monday night which insure the food is fresh. They are. I was disappointed by the fact there's no oyster deal on Monday however they have other special. We have a good date night with appetizer and entree below $50. Price is very reasonable and staffs are friendly. Food wise, the mussels are a bit small which we failed to ask. My burger is delicious. They are kind enough to ask if we want mustard. My girlfriend and I had brunch, here, based on some fond memories she had. I got a flanker steak and eggs, which, I have to say, were quite good. She was also very pleased with the quiche she had. That being said, they seemed understaffed. It's a small place and the people weren't very attentive, at all. They forgot that I ordered pork sausage, which I ended up letting go. Also, they had some good orange juice that wasn't on the menu - my girlfriend had to ask for it, specifically, which I found odd, considering how good it was. So I would still recommend the place, you just have to be ready to spend more time in there than should be necessary. read more

I went to Olivier this past weekend for a dinner with my parents and their friends. The food and service was excellent and deserving of 5 stars, but unfortunately I am deducting two for their prohibitive payment policy. Nowhere on the website does it seem to indicate that they only accept Amex, nor was it noticeably visible anywhere outside or inside the restaurant, nor did our server mention anything about this when seating us for our reservation. Instead, she waited until handing us our $400 bill at the end of our two-hour dinner to let us know that the restaurant couldn't accept any credit cards other than Amex. She offered the option of an ATM outside the restaurant, but we had only brought credit cards, so we ended up having to embarrassingly scrounge together whatever cash was on us until we were able to pay the bill. I understand the incentives for making a food establishment cash-only, but this isn't a coffee shop where people will reasonably be carrying enough cash to pay for a coffee or pastry. I can't see any reason why such an otherwise excellent (and not cheap) French restaurant wouldn't be able to accept other kinds of credit cards. It also wouldn't have been much of an issue had we been forewarned and knew to withdraw cash, but the way our payment was handled will most likely prevent me from recommending this place in the future. read more

I must say that my dinning experience was heavily on the negative side. While the restaurant had a great vibe and is decorated nicely having to drive around looking for parking was a downer. Quite frankly put the location I.e being across from a tire repair place is not ideal. My husband had the lamb sandwich which was plain awful! The bread seemed dry and there was nothin special about it at all, please do not waste your money on this dish. I had the la tarine de l'olivier which while better than the lamb was not memorable. After this meal I am left feeling discouraged to try out new places. Sigh read more

The service wasn't good at all here. We were so excited to come but unfortunately were passed up so many times. The waitress had a bad attitude and attempted to ask us to give up our seats. Really dude? Initially, I came with a couple girlfriends to celebrate my promotion but ended up leaving because of lack of service. Its not often you find truly good NY French food outside the upscale Michelin starred Manhattan joints, and that's why i was so surprised at the quality at Olivier. We called for a walk-in late and they kept the kitchen open an extra half hour for us which gets them big points. The staff was very nice and attentive, and adorably French. The menu is classic French bistro cuisine and we ordered in classic American style (with eyes bigger than our stomach!) The escargot were on point and the seafood special entree was perfectly portioned. Classic steak frites did not disappoint and the chocolate mousse brought tears to my eyes it was so delicious! Will definitely be stopping at Olivier on the regular. read more

Highlight of our trip was the white wine mussels, which for $17 came with a HUGE bowl and a side of fries. We had to ask for bread to mop up the extra sauce because it was that good! Maybe the brunch is better, but dinner here recently was not good. - Bread was stale, tiny portion. - Service was quite slow and there were only a few other patrons. - Gnocchi was far too dry. This is a standout restaurant. Expertly executed Classic French bistro food. How lucky are we to have the former Executive Chef at Bouley here in our neighborhood! We went to Olivier last night to grab a quick bite to eat before seeing a show in the local area. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the new menu (launched last night I think) is fantastic and I struggled to make a choice. The food arrived quickly and was very tasty (I had the short ribs and they were great), we squeezed in one dessert to share between us the tarte tatin which again was perfect. They even accommodated my friend who is a vegetarian even though there was no vegetarian item on the menu. They have a small but well formed (and well priced) wine list. Great french bistro food, I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. We had to rush off to the theatre but I wish we could have stayed longer. read more

Olivier's is a cozy neighborhood bistro with great food and a friendly atmosphere. The owner, Olivier, has a constant presence in his restaurant, ensuring that everything is running smoothly, and is the first to address any issue you may have. The rest of the staff is also warm and competent, and the young blonde woman makes a great cocktail. The menu changes from time to time but there are some solid choices that remain consistent. Although not the most French item on the menu, the hamburger is always good and cooked to perfection, and the soups are well rounded in flavor and variety. If their fish soup is being offered it is a definite go- to. In addition, their French fries are crisp and delicious, and the fois gras is smooth and rich. I have been here many times with family and friends, usually for dinner, and always have an enjoyable and relaxing evening- just what you would want from a charming neighborhood place! I would recommend more for dinner than for brunch, just in terms of the menu offerings but great options all around. Will definitely continue going to Olivier's for as long as they are willing to host me. read more

While I've never eaten a proper meal at Olivier's, I regularly stop by for coffee (and occasionally a pastry) while walking to the subway on weekdays, and the place is such a breath of fresh air in the neighborhood. (I, like other posters, was duly saddened by the loss of Cafe 474 earlier this year.) The girl behind the counter is incredibly cool and friendly (even at 8 a.m.!) and the coffee is better than any other in the vicinity. Definitely recommend. read more

I've passed by this place constantly and never went in because it was always so empty and dead. Usually Thursday and Friday at 6pm when I meet my husband at the F train. Maybe it is early but they do have happy hour. Anyway, I was craving oysters and decided to stop by and have some only to find out they only have $1 oysters from Mon-Thurs. ok, not a prob. We still need to eat dinner. So I ordered the mussels and my husband had the gnocchi. He liked his dish but it was small enough to be an appetizer. Yes, I get that's how Europeans eat but we're not Europeans. My mussels were beyond disappointing and border lined disgusting. Half of them were closed which means they're dead, which means it's not fresh! Way too little broth and WAY too much sand and grit. I seriously thought I cracked a molar half way through dinner. The bread was stale and the slab of butter was really cold. I use to work in the corporate office for LES HALLES so I know the French likes to use this really expensive block of butter. Unfortunately, Olivier's does not. The service wasn't bad. But the guy who waited on us was slightly off putting when we didn't order the seafood tower or the 24oz steak. (he might have been the owner because he greeted several guests that appears to be regulars) considering how bad my mussels were, I'm glad I didn't get the raw stuff. Maybe their brunch tastes better because they have 4 star reviews so someone must really like their food. So far, I'm not a fan. read more

What happened to my beloved bistro? They ran out of the house red wine before 7 PM on a Wednesday, however, quickly found me a replacement. When we asked for extra dressing and tomato for the super dry chickpea salad, we were told it would cost an additional $5... Or, get it right the first time. A thimble of dressing was brought to the table, but all that did was make the salad super oily and less edible. Coq au vin is supposed to be moist, I thought... Last time I had it, it fell off of the bone. Last night, it was served to me and I swear the chicken was Fresh Direct rotisserie leftovers that were five days old, hacked up and dragged through the room temperature sauce. They gave me a steak knife and I could not cut the chicken off the bone. It was so tough and dry, the one bite that I did take found itself spat into a napkin. When I cut into it, it was clear that the chicken had not been cooked in the broth and that the sauce had merely been drizzled on top since only the skin had color. Two glasses of wine and two lousy entrées for 50 bucks... Not likely to return. Very disappointed. read more

I wandered into Oliver's after volunteering to sing at a nearby community house and before getting a massage, to have a cappuccino and write in my diary. First what I liked: The atmosphere was good enough, and there was still a tiny Christmas tree with red balls on the bar top. I like some Christmas decorations left out late; they seem to have time stand still. The lady be-bopping to a man's jazzy guitar was cool, and reminded me of Norah Jones. I was met by a tall French man as I walked in, astonished I just wanted a cappuccino and perhaps I picked a table. We seemed to engage in a 15-minute conversation. I said I would like cinnamon and whipped cream on my cappuccino. He said he has neither. He said no cinnamon. I must have asked several times if he is kidding me about the cappuccino. It is one of the most delicious, and nutritious, spices in the world. A cappuccino is not a cappuccino without it, and, as I pointed out later, neither is French toast. I had the okay cappuccino in a small cup. I asked the waiter for a bit of coffee in it. When the boor returned, he inquired if I wanted an extra cappuccino. I said just give me the check. In between, I asked him about cinnamon. He said something to the effect that, because they do not serve it with cappuccino, French cuisine is the best in the world. I said no, Greek and Italian is. He must have not figured I am European. Just like the French Riviera is a plain bore next to any of thousands of Greek islands, as much as it can be a good variety and things like creme brulee and French onion soup are fine, fatty cream does not beat or bring out the sexy, natural flavors of food like lemon, oregano and olive oil, and I do not care if I ever have snails and frog legs. No cinnamon or no cinnamon or whipped cream on a cappuccino = an abomination = stupidity. Thank goodness I have been spoiled by the wonderful food of Athens, the Greek islands and Manhattan and Astoria restaurants, and of course my aunts in Long Island. read more

I have to admit I'm American as hotdogs and beers at 2p.m. in your aunt Betty's trailer, but this bistro is good eatin'. I've only been at night, so as far as day time brunch is concerned, I have no idea. I am vegetarian-they will accommodate you here. I'm not a wine drinker, but I always see their small bar loaded with people. Many of the customers seem to be regulars. If they are not, then they are greeted as such. Food: You can tell the ingredients are quality. Lots of fresh herbs. My boyfriend thought he could even detect truffle oil in the fish dish he had ordered here last time. The mushroom risotto is neither overwhelming to the palate or bland. The crepe desert was excellent. My daughter loves this place, so bring your kid if you want. Ambience: Relaxed and....French. The waiter at night both times I have been was super accommodating and nice. Sometimes I hear French spoken here between staff. It's a nice little additive of authenticity. One thing to note - it's cash only. Get thee to yonder corner liquor mart for an ATM six spot or more, because it can get pricey, especially if you want desert, but I once ate here for $30 bucks and it was still delicious. Basically, if you want to feel French and have some fine wine and low lighting, check this place out. It's a really chill place to eat and drink and muse on why American food isn't this good. The food was so delicious. We went for brunch. I had French toast and my wife had brisket and honestly it was the best French toast I have ever had. The price was great too. First of all - I am French :) I probably come from the center of the French food universe called Dordogne where the Foie gras comes from ;) Olivier has caught my attention a few times as I was driving on 4th avenue. I have never really been interested in any other places but the simple and attractive design kept calling me back. Finally I made a reservation last night: The waiter (French) was super friendly and genuinely helpful and sweet. Not only working a smile to get a tip! How refreshing! I chose the foie gras torchon : really great! And a very decent price! Then bone marrow : very interesting as prepared with capers. Oysters: super ! A hanger steak: cooked perfectly with skinny French fries and a salad this a perfect dressing. and goat cheese to finish my meal :) Great wine recommendation too! And: the baguette basket is complimentary like it is back home!! So lovely :) I cannot wait to try their lunch menu :) I am a park slope resident and real estate agent. What is not to love about this cute little place. location is conveniently right outside the subway and saved me from having to walk a half mile in high heels. my french boyfriend literally was drawn to this place like a fly to light. the hostess was super cute and spoke to us in french. she was really nice and talked to us about the menu. we had the foie gras. it was excellent!!! i would definitely reoorder. we also got the cote de beouf for two. the steak had great flavor. it tasted dry aged and was perfectly cooked to our request. the fries that came with it were amazing. the green beans were great too. i wish they had an aoli or something to go with fries. i never go to brooklyn but i would definitely come back here. while its not a fancy schmancy place, the simple cuteness of the place is solid. reminds me very much of bistros in paris. read more

Started with a French onion soup. It was okay, it was like lukewarm, under seasoned,onion&cheese water. It wasn't something I enjoyed. The cheese just sat on top barely melted, which was disappointing because I like the cheese to be melted throughout my French onion soup. As the main course I ordered the filet mignon medium rare. It wasn't cooked evenly throughout but it was still good. I needed to add quite a bit of salt for it to taste more flavorful but overall this was definitely better than the French onion soup. However, the steak was the size of my fist, and I'm a 5'4, 00 pants wearing, petit 20 year old woman... In other words, the steak was extremely minuscule. Anyway if you come here, don't get the French onion soup, it's seriously subpar. Haven't had desert yet but we'll see how that goes. I gave three stars cause the food isn't bad, in fact, it's pretty good--just nothing to rave about. Creme brûlée was pretty awesome though, reminds me of the one my grandfather use to make me when I was a kid. read more

The tiled floors and bistro table offer a quaint old world Brooklyn/ Euro vibe.The menu is rich and elaborate. Olivier's French influence can be tasted in every dish. I've only been for brunch, but the dinner menu looks fantastic. The quiche was light and airy- yet rich. The side salad complemented the meal well. The house dressing wasn't too sweet. I came here after a doctor's appt nearby. I had blood work done so i was really hungry and decided to grab brunch by myself. I found out they took cash only so i had to walk a few blocks to get cash. I didnt mind the walk since i really wanted to try this place after reading all the reviews. So i got cash, came back and was seated right away as it was a wkday and early noon so the restaurant was pretty empty. I sat facing the streets so it was actually nice watching people and cars pass by while i enjoy my brunch! I had the eggs benedict and an orange juice (although i regretted not ordering a mimosa!!!) the food was pretty good and especially the fact that i was able to eat and watch the street.. I went to Olivier tonight with my husband for dinner and I really enjoyed this place. I had the lamb shank with some amazing french beans and potatoes. The food was great, the atmosphere was very nice and the service amazing. I'm excited to have this restaurant in the neighborhood and I think it's a great addition to the area. I have just couple of suggestions for the owners: the place is TOO dark, please put some more candles on the table or do something, as I could barely see the menu and my husband during dinner. Also the menu needs in my opinion couple of more appetizers and entrees (perhaps a nice beef for one person or a pork chop). Overall a great restaurant! read more

I went in for brunch, their brunch menu was simple, so it didn't take me too long to choose Le Tartine D'Olivier. The brisket was tender, and the eggs were perfectly cooked. The only thing that can be improved was the jus was a little bit too salty, even with the bread. But overall I loved the dishes. This is a rare Gem in Brooklyn!!! It's becoming one of my favorite places to go for fabulous food, wine & good service. I was there w a girl friend of mine, this Monday, it was a quiet night--which was perfect for my friend & I to have a great conversation. Foie gras & bone marrow were great (had it the previous time i was here) the traditional French Cassoulet w Duck confit was amazing, the pork belly was yummy, but my favorite was the squid ink pasta! The food was absolutely & fabulously delicious! Wine was great, and the staff (so courteous & genuinely interesting guys, we had such great conversations bc it was a slower/ more relaxing night!) I highly recommend this restaurant for a great overall experience. Very Authentic French cuisine, without the pretentious vibe, which made the dining experience even better! A friend made dinner reservations for an impromptu Sat night dinner. The place was not crowded, we could have walked in. Based on all the reviews I ordered the hanger steak and frites! I asked that it was cooked medium well... Well well done is what I got. The steak was tough and chewy. The frites were great. A friend ordered the chicken dish (they only have one). It looks delish, my only concern is the rice dish was cooked w/ white wine. This is not mentioned in menu. I'm happy I didn't order it, as I have an alcohol intolerance. We shared the creme brûlée.... It was typical Creme brûlée, nothing exceptional. I personally like my custard served warm and a bit firmer. Absolutely terrible and amateur. Fooled by 4 stars. We ordered medium rare and received raw meat. Asked for it to be recooked and it was exactly the same. The fries are obviously frozen and the meat was of terrible quality. If you're a French Restaraunt, you have to at least have a good steak frites. Someone working there (and munching away at the bar) came to defend the cooking when we complained about the raw steak. Left with stomach pains and an overpriced bill. They offered a free desert, but this matters little when the meal is a disaster and you are charged fully for it. Not the wait staff, rather the chef and owners. read more
