The single worst salon I have ever had a service in. If I could give it negative stars I would. I had a great first service there for just a cut so I went back thinking it too, would be good. It was anything but. The color that was done on was a nightmare that they had to "redo" and after over ten hours looked abysmal. Getting any communication was like pulling teeth. It took him nearly two weeks to return a message on the phone and an email. David was really rude to me once he realized that I used to be a stylist and knew what I was talking about. He wasn't even there for my services and kept telling me that the things done, were not in fact what happened to my hair. How can he tell me that I have a different color hair than what anyone can see looking at me? I asked for a level 5 (BROWN) all over hair color with a few chunky highlights framing my face. nothing else., What I ended up with after it was turned orange and then going back to have it fixed - is blonde, like Jennifer Aniston Blonde. He had no legs to stand on when I showed him what color correction I asked for and even knew EXACTLY what had to be done to achieve the desired results - but argue about it he did. Their stylist Andrea just screwed it up and then when I went back another day to have it fixed just turned me an all over blonde. Mistakes happen, but not repetitively, and when a mistake is made, all they had to do was apologize, and fix it - that's it. On top of that, Andrea and another stylist had an argument on the floor about who's client I was because the girl at the desk told me Andrea wasn't working there anymore and then booked me with someone else (for the first color appt.) you don't fight over customers in front of everyone, its just not professional. Anyway, Andrea bullied a really nice girl out of the appointment and then tried to squeeze me in between all of her other services when she was booked solid. This was terrible because while i could have been in and out with another person I waited and waited and waited in between applications and washes, etc. I could go on, but I have a limit on the amount of words I can use on Yelp. All in all a nightmare. Don't go there for color. Avoid talking to David at all costs - he's a complete tool and has a big problem with someone calling him on his BS. Oh, by the way, He doesn't even DO hair himself or have a license to do hair, his wife does. So how he thinks he knows better than someone who was in the industry is just beyond me. read more

The salon is nice enough. But I did not have a good experience. I went in for what I thought would be a simple color treatment, since I have gotten it before with no problem. I had some highlights that I wanted to color over back to my natural color, a light brown ( you can see my natural color in my profile pic), because I am trying to eliminate the upkeep. Anyway, when I sat down I told her what I wanted, and she told me her plan. I told her specifically I didn't want ANY red in my hair because my hair sucks that stuff up and I hate the way it looks with my complexion. My roots somehow came out gold while the rest of my hair was dark the first time she dyed it. Second time, my hair looks uniform in color, but really dark while still wet. So I'm trying not to freak out, because I just went from pretty light brown with highlights to basically black. She dries my hair and it pretty much stayed the same shade of black except now that it's dry I can see red shining in there too. Great. Well, it's now past 8pm, so I pay and go home, hoping the color will wash out in a week or so. Well, a week later it has lightened up only a tiny amount, so I call back to get it fixed. David was very very nice and told me to come back and get it fixed for free. How very kind. So I come in on a Saturday and spend another two hours with dyes and sitting under heat..... Then my hair dries and looks just as dark, but now the red is at least gone. Overall, I spent a total of five hours and now have hair that is waaaay too dark and I don't really know what to do now. I think what really made me mad about the whole experience is that when I commented that is was too dark, and I wanted it to be like my natural color, she kept saying, "But your natural color IS dark!". Ummm, I'm pretty sure I know what my own damn natural color is, and this sure isn't it, thank you. read more

After searching and visiting many west side salons, I found David Gerard and took a chance at getting a hair cut. I won't bore you with my recent horror stories (I have many) and would just like to share that this salon in one of the most professional salons I have been too. The owners really take the time to find out about you and match you with the best stylist. Carol was awesome and took her time with me. The salon is very nice inside , clean comfortable and the receptionist was very friendly - something that I find very important when walking into a strange place. absolutely the WORST EXPERIENCE I've ever had at a salon (and I've been to Fantastic Sams). I went in with a photo of exactly what I wanted, the exact color I wanted (which btw, the instructions for the color was on behindthechair.com), and the crap that I got after 4 hours was disgusting. I even asked how high she was putting my ombre. She said at the bottom of my neck.. and it was only an inch down from my scalp. I came back the next day only to sit in the salon for 6 MORE HOURS. She went to take the color off of my blond and ended up taking it off of my bottom red... which destroyed the chance for the color to blend correctly. She ratted my hair, pulled it out brushing it, put so many chemicals on it I'm surprised I have any left. I asked to be toned to a light ash blond and ended up with this ugly gold strawberry blond. The first time I came in I booked a cut with Ashlee and a future color appt. I showed her a pic of what I wanted, not worried about it cause hair grows back... well she cut it super short and used a razor which is a big no no with my wavy texture. I told her I didn't want the razor and she said it wasn't a razor and it was a "thinner" and she would only use it a little... I walked out with what I thought was an ok hair cut only to wash it and have it look like a kindergartner had cut it. It was extremely choppy and even my flat iron couldn't make it look decent. I quickly canceled my color for fear of having her ruin the color too. The only problem is I had purchased the yelp deal for $100 and I knew I didn't want to come back to her. I called the salon and asked if I could transfer or gift the groupon because i wasn't pleased with my hair cut. The owner agreed to let me transfer it to my neighbor, told me to come in to have his wife "fix" my hair...I didn't want to come in, I was embarrassed but they assured me it was ok and Ashlee wouldn't know. I came in and they proceeded to tell me that Ashlee said I asked for a "disconnected cut" and that's why she did it... ummm mind you I don't even know that term. But Ashlee swore I said those word. It was embarrassing and I felt so small yet I let Carol go through and blend it in...I have to admit, she did a really good job blending in the choppy mess with out cutting too much more off. I was embarrassed but it did look better. She scheduled me for another appointment with her and offered a deep conditioning treatment free for my trouble. So about 8 months later I call to get a hair cut/trim and they book me for a 10:30 am. I show up and wait... 10:48 am and I'm still waiting... at about 11 am Carol finally walks up and says it will only be a few minutes and apologizes for the wait... I still end up waiting between 5-10 minutes... it felt like a lifetime. Finally she tells me to come on back and offers to wash my hair, I told her I already washed it and she tells me that she's going to wet it any way and she ends up washing it... I tell her what I want and tell her I'm not worried about the rest of it but mostly want a full bang... she says ok and then cuts my hair. She then begins to blow dry it telling me she wants to see how my bangs dry before she cuts more and as she is doing this she blow drys my hair and begins to flat iron it... I didn't ask for a style as I'm going home to 3 small children but too late now. I feel like it's taking forever and tell her, "you don't need to flat iron my hair I'm going home right after" but she is pretty much 1/2 way done. Needless to say, the one thing I was most looking forward to, my bangs, does not look right... it keeps parting in the middle and my hair part is always parted on the side but when she cut it, she parted it in the middle so it's being very stubborn. She then hands me the flat iron to see if I can fix it and it still wouldn't sit right (probably not her fault) so I mentioned using water a few times but my whispered plea went unanswered (maybe she didn't have a plain water spray bottle?) she finally finishes and I notice one side of my bangs is longer and keeps going in my eyes so I ask her if it's longer and she says no so i say ok... I walk up to pay and it's $48. I'm pretty sure she charged me for shampoo and style when I specifically said I didn't want them but I pay any way because she did do them. I tipped her 15% cause I wasn't happy with the price unless the prices went up but last time I paid $36 or $38... needless to say I'm in my car and I notice my bangs are uneven. I go home and put water on them and they are still uneven :( I also found a super long price of hair I the back... I feel sad. I wanted to love this place but I feel so dumb. I've lost $55 and have a jacked up hair cut and didn't get on the road until 12:23 and was supposed to have my appointment at 10:30 am! Who takes almost 2 hours for a hair cut? That's just crazy. I'll attach the pictures so you can be the judge. From not on I'll quit trying to save a few bucks and stick to my $75 Scottsdale hairstylist... $20 more and it's pretty much perfect. And no they didn't even give me my complimentary deep conditioning treatment... other wise I expect I would have been there even longer. read more

The first time I made a last minute appointment for homecoming cut and style and he made sure I was scheduled accordingly so I could be on time. David Gerard is tucked away south of Goodyear and Avondale, but very convenient for residents of Estrella Mountain Ranch, and worth the drive. The owner, David, and his wife Carol, have many years of hair expertise, developed in their native New Jersey. Carol is my stylist of choice, but I have seen many good looking cuts & styles from all the stylists, when I visit for my monthly cut. Carol listens and suggests, before starting a cut. She is one of the few who can give my hair a balanced look, and hide my behind-the-ear hearing aids. To sum it up in one sentence, Filiberto at David Gerard Salon is the best! After 20 years of long, straight hair down to my waist, I decided it was time for a change. Naturally, I was nervous about trusting someone with such a radical haircut. David Gerard Salon had great reviews here on Yelp, so I took a chance and called. I spoke to David, who put me at ease and was able to get me an appointment within 45 minutes. I worked with Filiberto Torres Jr., who's got a host of qualifications, including 20+ years in the business and Paul Mitchell certification as a trainer. Through everything, he discussed what he was going to do and made sure I was okay with it, starting with confirming that I wanted such a radical change - and then donating the long ponytail he cut off to Locks of Love. He wasn't just technically skilled - he was patient, funny, engaging, and relaxing to work with. David also stopped by to check up on things and make sure I was happy with how things were going. In the end, I went from waist-long straight hair with no real style and lots of grey to a pixie-cut with deep brown color and red highlights. Filiberto is a genius with hair! I wasn't aware of this until tonight, and it tore my heart out. I have so much respect for David and his stylist, especially Naomi. I visited the salon 4 times in an attempt to lighten my hair. I was honestly shocked at the high prices but I needed to establish with a salon in my area and was willing to make a sacrifice and pay what was asked to achieve what I wanted. After 3 visits and few weeks/months, my hair was still nowhere close to what I asked for. The beautician continued to say how good it looked but it was not. Eventually she made mention of how it was not getting to what I asked for and instead of admitting her fault (I dont think she used the correct technique), she instead offered to continue with the process. By this point I couldnt handle the continued disappointment and cost so I asked her to just color over it a single color. In a few weeks I had to cut all my hair off. There was unfortunate damage that was irreversible. I wish she would of recognized her mistake the first time and made adjustments instead of continuing her same technique and I wish I would of knew better. I have seen other great work there but i won't return due to my own experience. My beautician should of said she didn't know how to get what I wanted instead of using me as an experiment. read more

Ashlee did my hair and I am very pleased. She not only listened to what I wanted, but she also explained to me what will be the process. She stayed over an hour to help me get my hair back and the price was reasonable. Will be coming back to see you. I met David and he was very friendly and professional. I don't know what the other review was talking about. Hard to please everyone I guess, but this salon does a good job. Really clean and fairly big. Everyone was friendly and approachable. Not snobby at all, which is the one thing I can't stand about salons. Love it!!! :)) I went for a haircut at Ulta and the lady there showed me what a horrible job the colorist did with my highlights. There were many different shades of blond on one stand of hair. Several toners were used and now my hair is a rainbow. The angle the highlights started at were all in different directions. I appreciate her hard work but I had no idea what the highlights looked like on the back of my head until the lady from Ulta showed me. Ashlee is very nice no doubt about that, but the last time I went in I wanted the dark brown out of my hair that was on the bottom section and she said she put many highlights in that area and that it would be fine, but that's not what I wanted! I wanted all dark brown out of my hair and to go blond. Wasn't everything I wanted and won't be back. I like the salon and I'm sure there is a stylist that's good but because of one experience I don't feel comfortable going to the whole salon now. Ugh. read more

I was looking for great hair salon for a very long time.. I tried several of them in Goodyear and area, but every time I was disappointed. I saw one day David Gerrard salon and I decided to check their webpage. I saw that he moved to Goodyear from NY, I checked his website and reviews. Everything looked good and I decided to make an appointment . David made my appointment with ASHLEY. I told her my horror stories and about bad experiences I had, she was listening very carefully, I explained what I want to be done and she verified with me everything. During the process she made sure to check with me if I am happy with her work. I left salon that day VERY happy and relaxed. My hair looked great, I had VERY natural looking highlights and perfect layers. Before I left salon I made my next appointment with her. This was over 2 years ago and I am still client of David Gerrard salon and Ashley. We built strong rapport and when I go there I feel like I am visiting friends. Ashley make sure EVERY time that I leave salon satisfied and happy. David is very understanding if I need to reschedule, he is SUPER nice and make sure to greet me every time he see me in the salon. David and his staff strives to make every guest feel awesome and good about themselves. In this salon also works NINA, I was fortunate to get my nails done with her. She made my fingernails so beautiful that I was getting complements from people almost daily. The quality of the nails is great, they look super natural and I never had any problems with them. This is very beautiful hair salon, it has wonderful industrial look, high ceiling's with huge ceiling fans, it is very clean and has plenty of day light.
