Slow roasted carnitas left, shrimp taco right, and skirt steak I think in the middle.

I would rate higher if it was a better value. You get 3 tacos with no sides. Food is great, they cook with care. You can taste the flavors, not just plain ol salt. The cottage style setting is relaxing .Staff is attentive. Not low cost. You won't have leftovers to take home. You can literally eat at TX Roadhouse with ribeye steak and pay the same. But.. have to admit I enjoyed it. Corn tortillas taste homemade. Shrimp tacos were yummy. Nachos were good. Drinks do not disappoint. Overall, yes I'd go back, but not often due to cost. Skip the drinks and the price will go down, but it's hard to resist those too. Oh I just remembered the elote gives you a tiny portion-maybe 3 spoonfuls for like $6-$8. I will definitely skip that next time. But give it a try, might be one of your favorite spots.

First Look: Ollie's Azul House brings Upscale Street Tacos to Historic Rowlett. Located in the beautifully restored historical Oliver House at the corner of Rowlett Rd and Main Street, Ollie's Azul House recently held its soft opening. This new spot specializes in tequila and tacos, aiming to bring a more elevated dining experience to the heart of Rowlett. From the jump, the attention to detail is evident. Moving away from the plasticware of previous tenants, Ollie's feels like a "real" restaurant with cloth napkins, proper silverware, and decor featuring historic photos of Rowlett. The atmosphere is top-notch, featuring a long bar, a family-friendly porch and backyard, and even a cozy upstairs area perfect for a private "speakeasy" vibe. The Taco Breakdown The menu offers a variety of signature "upscale" tacos. Here's how our flight landed: * The Miller (Steak): While the steak was a bit on the tough side, the flavors were undeniably there. The combination of onions, peppers, and chimichurri really made the beef notes pop. * Forester Chicken Tinga: This was a standout. The pulled chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful. It came double-wrapped in soft corn tortillas and topped with a nice cream sauce and plenty of shredded slaw for a perfect crunch. * Ray Hubbard Shrimp: You get three shrimp per taco with a solid chili flavor and crisp slaw. The shell was a standard crispy taco, though the overall bite felt a little dry; a drizzle of cream sauce would have taken this to the next level. FYI, shrimp is not from Lake Ray Hubbard (lol - that's a good thing) Sides & Starters * Chips & Salsa: These might be the best chips in Rowlett. They have a superior crunch compared to local competitors. The salsa is deep, well-blended, and carries pleasant peppery overtones. * Elote: A must-order. The corn had a fantastic char, complemented by a generous amount of cream and a hit of cilantro spice. (Recommend verifying price on POS) * Blanco Queso: The consistency was thick and satisfying, though the flavor profile was a bit bland. It's a standard, safe choice for the table. Drinks & Dessert * House Margaritas: For those who like a kick, these are tequila-forward. However, the flavor was a bit light and felt slightly watery. As self-proclaimed "non-connoisseurs," we found them to be a fairly standard, middle-of-the-road option. * The Tisinger Churro: This is the perfect finish. It arrived warm, coated in cinnamon sugar, and served with a delightful dulce de leche. It's a sweet, high-note ending to the meal. Final Thought: During our soft opening visit, the staff was incredibly welcoming and appreciative of feedback (including a minor $2 pricing error on the POS regarding the elote). Our server was friendly and paid us the proper attention. With its great porch, ample parking, and upscale approach to local dining, Ollie's Azul House has the potential to be a staple in the Rowlett community. We'll definitely be back for a local treat! To be honest, we typically review BBQ places. But we enjoyed our new Taco adventure. We hope much success for this business.

The staff is always friendly and pleasant, and you can tell they genuinely enjoy working here. There are plenty of seating options: a cozy bar area, three separate dining rooms, a large patio with its own bar, and even picnic tables out back. I think the upstairs may be reserved for private events. Every time I visit, I end up ordering the same thing because it's just that good--the Naked Chicken three-piece. Absolutely delicious! I'm also glad they now offer two sides with your entrée for a small extra charge. The mac & cheese and green beans are both amazing. I've tried a cocktail or two, but usually skip them since the portions are small for the price. Overall, this is such a fun, charming spot with consistently great food. Brick and Bones Backyard is a blue house on the corner of Main St. in Rowlett, Tx, that has been transformed into something magical. This Mexican-Inspired "chicken shop" is offering fried & rotisserie chicken, classic cocktails, and live music in a rustic setting. The menu is diverse and offering all things chicken that is brined 24 hours, fried and can be order breaded or naked( for the gluten-free in you). They also have rotisserie chicken, tenders, sandwiches, salads, bowls and wings, along with unique sides. Poblano mashed potatoes, habanero mac n cheese, mexican corn, etc... often garnished with fresh radish and cilantro around out the menu, with top notch service to boot. Mi marido ordered the breaded fried chicken, mexican corn and poblano mashed potatoes and gravy. The chicken was well seasoned with a great crunch. The potatoes had good flavor, but were barely warm. I can imagine their greatness heated. The mexican corn on the other hand was the real elote deal! The fresh snap of sweet corn, dosed with cotija cheese and spices lives up to the hype! Sweet, spicy, savory, it hit all the flavor profiles. I had the naked chicken with an order crinkle fries(faves) which was greatly appreciated for it's gluten-freeness and flavor. However, it was abit overcooked. Which left it thready and a little dry. The sauce that accompanied it, was needed, but shouldn't have been, while the fries were fresh, but undercooked. The concept and flavors make Brick & Bone standout on the chicken front. Better execution can make it a cut above the rest. Check It Out!

A week later and I am still thinking about the delicious food and fantastic service! We didn't wait…read moresuper long for a table and the hosts were great. We took my dad to dinner and he complained that it was a little loud, but felt like we sat right under a speaker. I explained to him that it was part of the "vibe". Other than the volume making it difficult to hear, everything was fantastic. We probably could have asked to sit on the heated patio. The chips were warm and fresh and came with both red and green salsa, and both were super tasty. My husband asked if I could make salsa like that at home! We ordered drinks and they came quickly. I appreciated the quality of the drinks especially since we mostly ordered from their drink menu. We ordered "The Good Guac" to start and our server made sure that it wasn't too spicy or anything for my dad. I thought that was very thoughtful that she asked if how it came was ok. For food we ordered street tacos, Baja fish tacos and the parillada en fuego. The food runner seemed confused and brought us another dish (maybe the Verde molcajete) but with the loud music the message that we didn't order it was lost in translation. My husband thought maybe it was what he ordered and started in. Because our server came to check on us so quickly, she caught the mistake right away. She apologized profusely and said they were bringing what we ordered. They allowed us to keep the dish, and no sooner did we have a few bites of the deliciousness the correct food came out. They checked on us quickly, apologized profusely, brought the correct food immediately, let us keep the other food, sent another manager to apologize and finally followed up with coupons to return after making sure we were satisfied with how they handled it. I understand humans make mistakes, so I feel like the recovery or response is what is important. This is the type of amazing service that will keep us coming back. We were actually happy with the mistake as we were able to try another dish we likely wouldn't have ordered (but ended up being our favorite thing to eat). The ambiance was fun, parking was easy, the wait was reasonable, the service was FANTASTIC, the food was delicious and food/drinks were made with quality ingredients. We'll be back!

Since we were going to the show, why not go for dinner? I mean we have never been. Love that you can book reservations online. Super easy to get through the gate and it has amazing views. We were greeted by the host who was so kind. The place was super busy, I assume due to the show. So, we had to wait about 10 minutes. Table right in the middle of action... 1 min... 2 min... 7 minutes no greeting nothing and a woman walks by and says she will be right us. Cool. Thanks for letting us know. Walks past us 4 more times and nothing. The good thing is clearly someone else noticed and brought us water and said she was helping while the server got caught up. Okay. Everything will be OK. Whole ordering our drinks the server took over. Ordered drinks. App and 2 entrees. Then she was gone. 30 minutes after seating... nothing. Not even drinks yet. 32 minutes... she brings my husband's can of beer. No glass. No manhatten. She says they are working on mine. After 32 minutes (at least 20 minutes after ordering our drink)... can we have a glass? 5+ minutes later she brings me my manhattan... in a wine glass? Before I smell it I ask if its a manhattan because it looked like wine (damn good pour). Her response... I don't know. Never had one before. And still no glass. A. The Manhattan was fabulous and a ridiculously amazing pour. And for the cost... damn. Thats amazing. We decided she never rang in our drinks. Its the only thing that makes sense. It had really quieted down and the bartenders were working hard. And thats fine. But own it. Another 40 minutes and she stopped by once. Said our food was coming. But honestly haven't had a server who seemed to care less about her table in quite a while. Food came about 45 minutes after ordering. We ordered the Philly egg rolls... flavor was awesome. But they were cold. Clearly they had been sitting... for a while. Literally the cheese had melted onto each other and cooled. The entrees came at the same time. Smash burger and chicken fried chicken. Both honestly really good. The mashed potatoes were cold though... not sure if its because they werent kept warm in the prep station or if our plates just died waiting on server. Flavors were good though, including the gravy and fries. Good seasoning. We asked for ranch. Can you believe she never brought it? Nope us either. Seriously. The service was the worst we had in a while. It seemed exlusive to our table/server. I finally got her name at the end... Leandra. I am not trying to put her on blast everyone has a bad night. When my husband asked about the ranch. She said oh I forgot that too.. no apologies for that or the entire night. I said well it has been a rough night... she said yep. Here's the check. We are super nice... lots of grace... but this service made me almost want to not return. But... this is a small business trying to create something for our community. So im going to return oncs more and score is based on potential. But please owners.... staff is hard to come by, and maybe it was a rough night... but no one will survive if 30 minutes with not even drinks and cold food is acceptable. Its a beautiful space, flavorful food and great energy im very hopeful.
