I'm staying in Providence for a few days and I mentioned to my wife I'd like to have a good Rhody Wiener for lunch. What the heck is a Rhody Weiner? Well, Chicago has their hot dog version, New York has the famous water dog from a street cart but my all time favorite is a Rhody Dog! The Rhode Island wiener, often called a New York System wiener is a distinctive Rhode Island hot dog. Toppings may include: Meat sauce, often called "wiener sauce" Yellow mustard Chopped onions Celery salt And Wally's Wieners has a lunch special, *Two Rhody Dogs w/ Fries for $10 bucks! (My wife is now looking at me with disgust) Listen, I am an adult and if I want to eat wieners? I will do so with a beer. Wally's Wieners has a side parking lot. We walk upstairs into a nice space. Large bar to the right, to the left is a nice size dining area. There is a larger space, almost like a speakeasy in the back?! Our waitress was nice, I point to the special on the board and ask for a local beer. My wife orders a smashburger, all is right with the world. My Rhody Dogs? Perfection. I'm participating in the 2nd Annual Rl Food Fights Weiner Event and this was my first stop. I went during lunch time on a rainy day with my friend. There were two other groups there when we arrived, all sitting on the same side of the restaurant so we decided to join them to make the server's life easier. For the first coupie minutes, I was admiring the peach and teal color combination all throughout the restaurant. The coupon I had was valid for a classic hot dog ($5.00) which came with ketchup, mustard, relish, and diced onions. On top of that, I ordered an OG smashburger ($10.50) which came with lettuce, tomato, pickles, American cheese, and burger sauce. I decided to add bacon onion jam not knowing there would be a substantial upcharge (+$3.00) that wouldn't be worth it. My friend ordered their double trouble smashburger ($14.50) which came with double patty, American cheese, bacon, onion ring, and chipotle aioli. Our server talked to us while we waited for our food; she was a good conversationalist and kind. The food looked great. The cheese was melted well, but I wish the buns were toasted on both sides or pressed down on the grill a bit. The patties were flavorful, had the signature crispy finish, and not too thin. I was grateful they had shrettuce (shredded lettuce) as I think it somehow makes burgers taste better. I did appreciate the caramelized onions in the bacon onion jam as it added a sweet element, but I couldn't taste much of the bacon, so for that reason, I didn't think it was worth the extra charge. The hot dog was okay. The dog itself did not have much flavor (l love a salty classic beef dog), but the toppings helped create that classic sweet but acidic taste. The prices are a little high for the type of food but the food is good so it balances out a bit. One huge plus is that they have their own parking lot and it's free for customers. I drove around a bit trying to find street parking as l am conditioned to assume parking lots aren't a thing on federal hill but Wally's is an exception. read more

I don't even love a hot dog... But this place definitely impressed me! From the drinks to the dogs.. it was all delicious. Shoutout to our server- was his second day and he was great! Nice space, lots of seating / bar seating and outdoor seating. Fun retro diner vibe. We got loaded fries, the Hawaiian dog & a veggie 'girl dinner' dog, espresso martinis, and the dog bowl! I will say, as fun as the dog bowl is- it spills! & we did have some miscommunication ensuring my friends dog was actually the veggie one- but it did work out. Lord of the Wings review 2025: We came for the wings and left wanting it all! Federal hill so expect a hard time parking. Cute inside. It was a Saturday around 2pm and plenty of seats available. We went with Wally sauce wings and the guys split a kimchee dog. The wings had a lot of meat, cooked well as ordered and smothered in sauce. And the sauce was flavorful! This was an adult wing crawl. I went into Wally's for the Rhode Island Food Fights Lord of the Wings 2026 challenge. I've been to Wally's before but I had never had their wings. They had a variety of sauces and I went with the straight Buffalo. Their wings were lightly breaded with a nice crispness to them. The sauce was your typical buffalo sauce. They were very enjoyable. I also couldn't resist ordering a spicy kraut dog (a hot dog with dijon mustard and cherry pepper saurkraut. It was reasonably priced and hit the spot - a nice compliment to my wings. I sat at the bar and spoke a little bit to the friendly staff. I've had their hot dogs before and they are very good. It was a Monday night and they weren't too busy. This is my second time at Wally's but the first time trying their wings as part of the RI Food Fights wing throwdown The place is all pink and teal, pops of color and screaming that it's a fun place to be. The bar was crowded but we easily found a table in the dining room. Our server was Nathan who was awesome. Super friendly, informative and patient, he helped us navigate the menu to figure out what we wanted. Being at Wally's, we of course had espresso martinis. We each got a different kind, mine was the chai. A balance of warm spices and coffee, this drink hit the spot while we waited for our food. We chose to get the General Tso wings. They came out quickly and they were CRISPY. I loved the texture, super crispy but juicy inside. The sauce came on the side. While I wished it was tossed, I can't deny the incredible texture achieved by having it on the side. I made a mental bookmark when Food Blogger friends created content about the Newport Wally's Wieners earlier this year. Because the hot dogs looked really good. Oops. I mean wieners. Last week, I was searching for Providence wieners to try as I was driving home from a trip. Wally's was one of the two names that stood out. The Providence Wally's is located on Atwell, just inside the Federal Hill La Pigna Archway. Wally's is part old school, because they use Saugy's "frankfurts", a beef and pork blend in a natural casing, that originated in Rhode Island in 1869. Love when places are loyal to their hometown dogs. You can also get a classic "All the Way" Rhode Island Wiener with meat sauce, mustard, chopped white onions and celery salt in a steamed bun at Wally's. But Wally's is part new school too. The inside, with pops of pink and green pastels, feels a bit like Miami. And Wally's is definitely a fun topping place. They have specialty combinations, with a modern spin. When I went, they had a special Bolognese dog and a special Cacio e Pepe dog. I ordered the special Bolognese dog, and the Spicy Kraut dog from the regular menu. The wieners are generally rapid-steamed, but you can request them grilled as well. I went for the classic RI steamed preparation. The bun was also steamed. The dog had a plump texture. I didn't find it especially snappy, although I know that Saugy's have that reputation. The dogs had good flavor, but the toppings were the stars for me. The bolognese sauce was very good. The kraut included cherry peppers, and was topped with an artful Squiggle of tasty "Dijon", that looked more like a blend with Stone-Ground Mustard. Very good hot dogs. The atmosphere was modern and colorful. Service was very good. If I lived nearby, I'd be in regularly to try all the dogs. 4.5 Stars read more

Came on a Sunday for early dinner and the staff were so nice and kind. The playlist was a bop, so sorry other people in there for singing ever work of FOB. Anyways! The concept of the hot dog towers is SO FUN but I couldn't eat it all even splitting with my husband. I think next time I'll just stick to choosing one or two and upgrading to all beef! My favorite was the girl dinner hot dog, which is surprising because who knew I'd love salad on my hot dog! It was so helpful that they had parking! We went to a friend's 40th bday celebration here a couple weeks ago. First off the queer o meter is off the charts. There about 9 of us and the staff and atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Kudos! We got the parm fries, pickle chips, some adult beverages, a chicken sandwich and various hot dogs. I was surprised I liked the fries, I tend to like the crispy hot traditional ones but these were very good. Well seasoned and bursting with flavor. Everything else was fairly straight forward and on the upper end of fine. Except for the drinks, those were delish. I tried everyone's ha ha Def upgrade to the beef dog. The buns were hit or miss. Unfortunately, some were hard and we ended up eating the contents sans the bun for those. The 2 items that stood out, IMO, were the crispy chicken sandwich and the meatball sandwich. Both were hot, flavorful and the chicken was crispy without being oily. Well done. Will we be back? I've been to Wally's twice now, and both experiences have been wonderful. My husband and I love all of the choices of toppings, and have gotten the Hotdog Tower both times, to try different options. I have food allergies, particularly gluten and dairy. I know it's kind of a pain, but from the moment I mentioned my allergies our waitress and the manager ensured everything I received was allergen free. I can't thank them enough for doing this, as this isn't always common. Everything I had was delicious! The bartender, and our waitress, took it one step further. They currently have a Pumpkin Martini on special, and when I asked about it, she informed me it did have dairy in it. Later, she said they were trying out a dairy-free version and asked if I was interested in trying. I did try it and it was delicious! This extra step was incredibly nice, and I hope it's something that sticks to the special menu for others! The ambience here is casual and fun. I love the colors and decor, and as a dog lover and vet tech, being dog themed and named after a real dog is such a special touch. We already have plans to come back soon! read more

The concept is interesting but this space went from a classy, good Italian restaurant with a ton of local history to a place that sells "ok" hot dogs. My main issue is that almost everything is cut with pork supposedly for "flavor" but that typically means to cut costs. Every meat sauce they have is mixed with pork - even the chili. I was so disappointed because that cut the options in half for me as someone who doesn't eat pork. I'd been super excited to try the expresso martini tree since I saw it on social media but it's $85. I can't fathom that price, so I skipped it. They were pretty busy for Labor Day Monday, and only 2 servers and the manager were on. Service was okay to slow. My first drink was the Guava Lava which I was excited about because I love spice and guava. Barely tasted the guava and the jalapeño overpowered the whole drink. I asked to have more guava added and there were nice about it, but the drink came back just tasting sweeter, not like guava at all. They need to change the name of the drink, guava is non existent in this flavor profile. Wasn't a fan of the Midnight Mocha cocktail either, it was really whiskey forward and that's all you could taste. My mom got a burger - the bluesy Lucy - and I got the Mac Dog and Balsamic & Brie dog. They were fine. Nothing to write home about. Honestly, I prefer spike's - you better bigger hot dogs on torpedo rolls for the same price. Decor is fine, I like the coral and sea foam green colors. The chairs are those awful tin like ones that start to hurt after a half hour. I'd maybe go back one more time to give them another chance, but for the love of god folks, please make a pork free chili so a hot dog lover like me can have the most classic hot dogs in existence! read more

I've been here twice now. I'll just pop in grab a dog. I enjoyed the hotdog but the service for it to have been empty basically both times I went was a little slow especially for me to literally be getting one dog. I got the Chili Cheese Dog with the cheese on the side so it didn't get too messy and the amount of cheese someone adds to something can get subjective. Get the meatballs. Get the beef hot dog (it's worth the upgrade). Wally's was a good stop, especially on national hot dog day! They have a deal every Wednesday that you get a free Classic with every main dish purchased, so it was great to try some extra dogs. Our favorite of the night were the meatballs, which we had to try after they won an award for their meatballs a few months back. They were light and flavorful - I loved the hot dog bun as bread touch too! The standard hot dog is mediocre at best though. Nothing special and felt a little undercooked. It's well worth the upgrade to the beef dog or I would try getting it grilled next time. The beef dog that my husband got was well worth it. The other concern I had was that it smelled strongly of cleaning solutions when we walked in. Not sure if that was just the day we were there, but it was a little unpleasant to dine in and smell while eating. I hope that was just a fluke that day though. Service was also just okay. We were seated at a table in the bar section, which seemed annoying for the bartender to get to. We ordered a gluten-free bun specifically for my girlfriend because she has a gluten allergy. We made this extremely clear to the employee over the phone and were reassured that the restaurant could provide a safe gluten-free option. Despite those explicit instructions, she was given a veggie dog on a regular bun. This was not a minor mistake -- it was a serious failure to follow a clearly communicated allergy request. She became sick that night and ultimately had to seek treatment at urgent care. What makes this especially upsetting is that we trusted the restaurant's employees and management when they assured us that a safe gluten-free option could be provided. My girlfriend should never have had to suffer the consequences of trusting those assurances. We are extremely disappointed by the negligence involved and by the lack of care shown toward a customer who specifically disclosed a food allergy. This situation caused her significant physical distress and required medical attention. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Newport! Amazing drinks, plenty of options to choose from when it came down to whatever toppings you wanted on your hotdogs, and I highly recommend getting starters to share like the fried pickles, onion rings, and the Thames street fries. My family and I devoured our meals and they were amazingly fast to seat our family of 7 within 30 minutes for a late lunch on a busy summer Saturday. They did a great job paying tribute to the former beloved Canteen restaurant giving it that same charm and personality we love. Of course, we sat at the bar and made friends with the patrons around of us and of course, the bartenders who were amazing. We went (in July) opening weekend and had such a fun time. The vibe was exceptional as were the drinks. We will be back soon to try more of their offerings and the different spaces to sit! New to the hill - it is a chill spot with a large menu. There are lots of burger and dog choices, something for everybody. Even the apps had nice flair to the selection. I can't pinpoint what it was, but I wasn't wowed by the food and service here which is what I kind of expect from a restaurant on the hill. Already tried the Newport location and now the Providence location is check off as tried too! This location is very new, and looks similar to the OG location with its iconic pink and blues decor. Tables are clean, and serves was prompt, kind, and efficient in getting our orders. Ordered the Nashville chicken to share with my friend and the staff did a lovely gesture and cute it in half for us! I didn't expect it to be sandwich~ but it was delicious. I expected more of a spicy kick but it did have good savory flavor, chicken was juicy and hot, and I enjoyed it very much. Spice level is at a good level 4/10z I ordered my favorite pizza dog! It was just as good as I remembered it, the good combo of pizza cheese and pepperoni and hotdog mix. I ordered a mocha martini, and it was strong but delicious in the bitter side. I ordered a ginger ale soda too~ straws are optional and received upon request. As our sweet treat, we got a tiramisu. Nothing too special. I was coffee flavor I think. Creamy but simple. Can't say it's better than the Newport location, but I did enjoy my food experience. I would rather come here for my dog cravings~ I'm very interested in the drink menus and might give that a try more next time since they have a good variety~ read more
