Terrible. We had a military move - or else we wouldn't have picked them in the first place. 1 Pro - they arrived on time! Cons...long list lol 1. They were not organized. They had to send someone halfway through the day to go get more packing supplies. 2. They packed terribly. Even with us in the room. They wrapped and double wrapped unbreakable items - then didn't wrap a single thing around pictures or glass items. Seriously! 3. We offered them lunch (just some sandwiches, gatorades, waters, chips, etc. ) for their hard work. They accepted - except for one guy. That guy complained the rest of the day (yes in front of us) saying things like "that's really shitty food they got you" and stuff like that. 4. The lack of care put into our place and our items was unreal. Holes and scuffs all over the place! I expect some bumps and such on the wall as they're moving big things, but this was next level. 5. Upon arrival to our destination, so much stuff was damaged. Like REALLY messed up. Even our movers who unloaded our stuff at our new place said that they were shocked by the state of the craft. Family heirlooms broken, pictures smashed, boxes turned into circles because they were beat up so badly. We will never use these people again and will wish anyone the best of luck who doesn't have a choice (like us). read more

An amazing experience AGAIN with Olympia Moving & Storage. I have used Olympia previously for moving/storage needs in the DC area, and I have never been disappointed. From start to finish, this is a professional operation. This past move (early 2024) started with a video walk-through with Dan, who provided an on-the-nose cost estimate. There were no surprises or deviations in my total invoice -- it was exactly as Dan quoted. He gave helpful advice for planning/packing, and setting up the move, storage, and delivery with the administrative team was super easy. They sent clear invoicing while my items were in storage, and their communication was clear, with reminder calls/emails in the lead-up to my move. The crew was also top-notch and very professional. They covered all my floors with mats before starting the move, and they did not damage one item or create any knicks or dings on my walls (both in/out of old houses with cramped spaces). And with larger furniture pieces, they took the doors off the frames and were extremely careful to not cause any scuffs or marks. All furniture was well wrapped & padded, electronics protected, artwork protected in special packing boxes that they brought, etc. A member of Olympia's administrative team also called during the move to check-in with me and make sure it was going smoothly, which I really appreciated. The 3-man crew all worked non-stop the entire day with minimal breaks (I don't actually think I saw any of the crew members take breaks, even to look at their phones), and they were very friendly and willing to move around any furniture pieces to suit my needs. The move was quick and pro-level. I'd like to give a huge thanks to Dan, Ariana, Jo-Kelly (crew leader), Rob, Tay (move #1), and Owen (move #2) for making this move as effortless as possible. We used them last week for a townhouse move to a stand alone because we used them 7 years ago and both were great experiences. Sales (Dan) came out quickly and was punctual, estimates accurately, helps understand how everything works and what is involved. They assign a move manager to coordinate the logistics and make sure everything is going well during the move (Ariana). We had an amazing foreman (Jo Kelly) that gives you a heads up with an ETA, figures out how to fit everything in the truck somehow, keeps everything running smoothly and efficiently, solves any logistical issues, etc. Moving crew (Rob, Gabe, Owen, Elijah) worked fast and didn't bang the walls etc even on the two hottest days of the year. If they don't service your area, buy a place somewhere just so you can use them!! read more

Our realtor has Olympia Moving & Storage as one of her preferred companies and recommended them to us for our move in-State. We got two quotes and Olympia seemed to have the most detailed and cost effective quote. One thing I would caution you about their service: if there is something "special" that you're moving (in our case it was a pool table), make darn sure that you understand whether or not the "special" item is included in the quote or if you need to get a third party quote. Our quote had a line item for the pool table, but apparently this only meant they'd take the pool table to the truck after a third party had come in and broken the table down into movable pieces. This was not clearly outlined on the quote, nor was it effectively communicated to us. Our move was nearly in jeopardy as a result of this oversight. Also, instead of acknowledging his mistake, our contact person Dan was then extremely unhelpful in resolving the issue with my wife and I. As for the move itself outside of the pool table issue, while the crew was friendly and helpful, they packed things in an almost random way that didn't show much forethought, and then on the unpacking side things were placed in curious and illogical locations. Additionally, some items we had in storage prior to our move didn't show up on move day, and some things that were supposed to stay in storage showed up. We basically gave the crew a grade of C+, but our rating is only two stars due to the wretched customer service with respect to dealing with their error in communicating the additional costs associated with moving a pool table. I was really frustrated when two days before my move, the office emailed me and tried to move my move time four hours later. I had already booked the moving elevator and loading dock and couldn't change it on such short notice. Lucie ended up being able to make it work and was extremely helpful! I understand that they are short-staffed due to Covid, and they fixed the problem. However, the movers showing up not knowing they had to pack and move was chaotic... on an already chaotic day. I rarely write reviews, and I truly hate to give a bad one. Unfortunately, having used movers many times, my experience with Olympia was the worst move experience I have had. The team from Olympia was hired through long-distance movers hired by my company for my relocation at the end of June 2020 to pack and load my household goods in Alexandria, Virginia, and then load them on the long-distance moving truck. During the pack and load process, we had trouble with the team generally not explaining the move process and being dismissive of our questions about how items were being numbered and tracked to the punch sheet (inventory), including several items without numbers and the large number of unrelated smaller items that were grouped and wrapped in paper rather than boxed. In addition, despite having done a full walk-through at the beginning of the move to go over everything that would be packed and loaded, at the tail end of packing, there were a number of items set aside and not packed. We asked the team about these, only to be informed that they could not pack them. Some of the items we understood (e.g., candles, a small can of paint), but we told them we would need to contact the long-distance movers regarding the household liquids (e.g., shampoos, lotions, laundry detergents, cleaning supplies), as we were not made aware of this by the long-distance movers before the move. (We had also not had this experience with any other movers.) We explained we understood this may just be a miscommunication, but we wanted to clear it up and be sure as we hadn't made other plans to move these items. But, the Olympia team became visibly angry. After about a half an hour, the long-distance movers had cleared up with the Olympia team that the liquids should be packed. We thanked the Olympia team and apologized for the misunderstanding. The team remained visibly mad and were talking around us about how they'd "never been asked to do this before." (We learned from the long-distance movers later that Olympia typically handles military moves, in which liquids are not typically allowed.) They began packing the liquids in a used, damaged box that had to be taped on all sides. We rushed to check all bottles were tightly closed, which we told them the long-distance movers had requested. But, they continued quickly haphazardly throwing the liquids in a box faster than we could check them. At the end, we were presented the 4-page punch list of packed items. Every item was marked scratched, bent, or otherwise damaged. I expressed that I didn't feel this could be accurate for every item, and pointed out, for example, several things that were new and barely used. But, the items were packed and wrapped, and we were given no choice at that point but to sign that we agreed. We were anxious and stressed, but our hands were tied. Worried that they might be inclined to be even more careless once they left, we tried to remain calm and kind; we thanked them and tipped them $150. Upon arrival, many of our fears were confirmed. 116 numbered boxes and items were listed on the punch sheet. But, 123 items arrived. 24 items were unnumbered, and 2 items were marked with the same number. Of those 26 items, we were able to identify what we believe the numbers were intended to be for 12 items, and were left with 6 packages on the punch sheet and 12 unnumbered items we could not match. The liquids box arrived flipped upside down with a note written on the bottom as if it were the top that "the customer packed the box herself." (Not true.) The doormat was put in with the liquids, crushed and ruined. Powdered cleaning supplies were packed without being closed, and a box came off the truck leaking puffs of white powder. Other boxes were loosely packed, such that they were crushed or dented. Glassware was packed with heavy kitchen appliances. And, rolls of wrapping paper were bent in half and shoved in a box. Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, all the goods went into storage. We did our best on unload, but we don't yet know what the full extent of the damage may be. Even more, if there is any greater damage than some lost cleaning supplies and ruined wrapping paper and doormat, we will likely have to cover this out of pocket as we didn't hire Olympia directly and it is likely the damage will be blamed on storage. I do not know whether Olympia was intentionally careless because this was a one-way move, they knew the goods were going into storage, we didn't hire them directly, or they wouldn't be there on the receiving end to deal with any issues, whether they always handle moves like this (other reviews certainly seem to be good), or whether we just got a bad team or a bad day. But, a 1,500 mile move in a pandemic that was already very stressful; the Olympia team made it worse. I regret the additional tip we gave. And, while I'm generally one for second chances, I would not hire Olympia again, and would discourage friends and family from doing so. read more

I used Olympia on my recent move from Alexandria to Gaithersburg. This was the first time I had used movers that weren't my parents, so I was a little hesitant. I called them up and they had someone come out to give me an estimate. The estimate actually was higher than what my expense turned out to be, so I was pleasantly surprised! On the day of my move, the movers showed up right on time. I was very impressed with how quickly they moved and that they asked me which way I would recommend driving to my new house, so that travel time would be diminished. The only negative of the experience was that the movers lost my check. But the company, without my even asking, offered to pay for stop-payment on my check and then even allowed me to charge the rest on my American Express (they usually only take MC/Visa). I would definitely recommend them though--cost about $700 for my one bedroom. read more

We live on the third floor of a walk-up building and purchased a custom sofa that turned out to be too large for our stairwell. After searching for solutions, we learned that Olympia could actually hoist the sofa from the ground, over our balcony, and into the living room. I was skeptical of this at first, but they assured us it was possible. They were right! I am attaching photos of the process, as words won't do it justice. They wrapped our sofa to make sure it wouldn't be damaged. Ironically, a leg broke off while they were doing so, but the sofa was not otherwise damaged and we purchased their insurance option. They then attached several nylon ropes to hoist the sofa up, with one rope used as a guide to make sure it didn't bang into the balconies below us. Once the sofa was at the top, it was incredibly difficult to get over the balcony railing, taking 4 men using all of their strength to do so, but they did it! They then removed the balcony door and brought the sofa in. The men were very professional from start to finish. The entire process was a bit pricey, but in the end, I'd say it was worth it given our alternatives. We wouldn't hesitate to use Olympia for a similar job in the future (i.e., when it's time to get the sofa out!). read more

We just moved this past weekend and I am completely disgusted by our experience with Olymipia. They started charging us from when they left, therefore we were charged for 45 minutes before they even arrived at our apartment. We ended up being charged DOUBLE our estimate. I'm still confused as to how a 6 hour move turned into a 12 hour one?? Our issues are as follows: 1. The movers only marked 30 minutes for lunch but I can't see how that was possible because we got to the house 2 hours before they did and the house was only a 35 minute drive. 2. The movers broke one of the granite slabs on our dining table and they also cracked our son's crib in two places. We were told at the end of the night that we could purchase the $75 insurance and that we would have a $100 deductible on top of that should we want to make a claim. Nice... 3. The worst part of this experience is that my husband has been trying to contact the company several times per day since Saturday and has not received a call back. Their booker, Jennifer keeps promising that we will get a call to discuss the situation but we are still waiting 6 days later.. We've told her that we are planning on contesting the charge on our credit card but still, no call back. I would never use this company again. read more

I'd used these guys a few times before and had no problems. Last time was a disaster. They did NOT wrap my stuff properly -- stain and scratches all over my couch and headboard. Plus they lost a $550 oriental rug and broke stuff on my bike. Plus the mover from Wheaton who showed up on delivery day was a jerk, and rude to his assistant. I've heard mover horror stories, so I prepared myself for the worst, but really - they were great. The office staff provided a clear and honest estimate, and followed up with me before, during, and after the move. The packers arrived 10 minutes early, were very polite, and extremely efficient. The movers also arrived on time in NC, and they got me into my new place quickly. I got a couple other estimates, and can say their pricing was very fair. We had a great experience with Olympia moving. We found out about them through our relator. Our move was in two stages, first a move to a storage locker and then a move to a our new home several months later. Both moves went well, the team did a great job taking apart and reassembling our bed and took good care not to bang up our walls. The short move ended up costing us more than the estimate, but not too much more. The full move into our new home was right on target. Our new home is a four story townhouse and the three guys who came to move everything in had no trouble pulling all of our 20 some boxes of books up the three flights of stairs to our office.
