Based on a recommendation of a local on the street we decided to try this Greek restaurant. We were a large party but were immediately seated as they were not crowded at that time. The server was great and very helpful with questions and suggestions. We order a variety of things from pizza to grilled chicken to moussaka. Everyone enjoyed the food and the restaurant. Never been to Olympia Restaurant on Denman before but it's an old school Greek spot. They've been around for over 30 years. There's a second location out in Kitsilano. We dropped in on a Saturday (12:15pm) and grabbed seats in their outdoor covered area. Excellent for people watching. The regular menu is large but the lunch menu (12:00pm to 2:30pm) has better deals ($14.00 to $20.00 entrees). All their entrees come with rice, roast potatoes, Greek salad and tzatziki. - Pita - they asked us whether we wanted pitas (uh, yes). Decent. - Roast lamb ($20.00) - good amount of lamb, didn't see much fat. Not much taste to the salad. Potato had a nice bite. - Moussaka ($18.00) - basically, a Greek shepherd's pie. - Beef souvlaki ($18.00) - one skewer of beef. Not bad but fairly standard. - Greek pizza ($22.00 medium) - slightly thicker crust. Liked how it wasn't greasy. Wished the onions were cooked down more. Since my last review, while food quality was not an issue, has yet improved. It was always prepared with pride and culinary finesse. Service is highly improved. Great pizza. Order for pick-up and always ready on arrival. Try the #6 with double cheese as I do every time I order because it's consistently good. The crust is one of the best and the grease gets absorbed perfectly into the crust to keep it slightly crispy. Efficient friendly staff too. I felt sorry for this place during the 2010 Olympics when they got all the hassle about the Olympic rings. But now in 2024 I'm pretty sure they should've shut the doors. I may have just had the worst pizza I've ever had downtown . It tasted like it was cooked five hours ago and reheated in the oven. The crust was dry and crunchy and they ignored all instructions. I had some bad food from here a few months back, but I gave it a pass, thinking it was a one of. But after tonight, I'm done with this restaurant. Greek style pizza is a thicker, greasier kind of pizza and Olympia does it exceptionally well! Can you say "too much cheese". No need to ask for double cheese because they don't skimp! The staff are very friendly and honest! The prices are so reasonable for the location (heart of Denman). They also have an underrated patio! A great place to have some drinks and food! I have been ordering take out from here for many, many, years. A few change of ownership, you could always tell. Anyways, I call for take out and wow, she sounded old and miserable, not friendly which is weird when in this kind of business. The food wasn't too bad the last time I ordered and the cash only thing was stated, but this time.....it wasn't the same. Very disappointing. We ordered: Baked Spaghetti with garlic bread, $17.95. Meat Balls on the side, $3.95 Roast Lamb Dinner, with rice, greek potato, satziki and pita. $21.95 2 chocolate cake slices $5.95 each Greek salad was served like a few times before with regular onions and not the usual Greek style, red onions, not really any olive oil dressing to speak of and the tomatoes were old, which is full of bacteria, won't kill ya but still is harmful. I knew as soon as I opened it, this was gonna be bad. The baked spaghetti had hardly any cheese on top. Not enough tomato sauce, and the sauce tasted so bland I had to add some Italian seasoning to make it tasteful. The pasta was way over cooked, just not the same as previous which was tolerable. The meat balls were even smaller than the last time. Previous owners always gave a good size of 3 meat balls The roast lamb looked good but it was the blandest I have ever tasted, just not the same mustard lamb sauce. The rice and potato was also bland. I do not like bland food. I want it to taste like Greek food and the pasta like Italian. The chocolate cake was moist at least, last time it was drier. I know how much groceries cost and whether it's a shitty cook. When I can do better than a so called professional cook. I draw my line in the sand. I am now looking for a great place to replace this one that serves both cuisines and looks like there are a few across the bridge i will have to have a go at. I will not be back. The grouchy old woman on the phone was my first clue of change of ownership, usually it's some younger, cheerful person answering or the cook. Good by. This Greek restaurant is located at Denman and Nelson in downtown. It is still in the popular area that attracts tourists or local people to come in and enjoy the Greek food. We came here for lunch as we saw an a-board outside the restaurant that listed $12.45 for lunch specials. Their lunch menu had a wide variety of items and most of the dishes were at a great price. We ordered two dishes from the lunch menu - roast lamb and moussaka. What a great deal! The portion was quite big and the quality was good! Even the pita bread was very fresh baked from the oven. The roast lamb was very tender and tasty. Moussaka was quite big with a lot of beef in the middle. Very delicious! The server here was very friendly and polite. We ordered two cups of hot water with lemon. When she delivered the hot water to our table, she mentioned that the water was boiling hot from the pot, so she asked us to be careful when we drank it. She was very caring about customers. Interior design was a bit old inside the restaurant but the style and ambience along with the Greek music made it more authentic. We love this restaurant and would like to come back and try other dishes. read more

I have been a customer for over 20 years. I ordered tonite over Doordash as I did not have cash. The app did not send the correct order in, so I called immediately to the store. The manager would not speak to me and refused to change my order to what I wanted originally. The mistake was not their fault but they did nothing to correct the problem. Very disappointing, mediocre food. Prawn and salmon skewers were tasteless and dry. Potato skins were also absolutely tasteless. Having lived in the west end for over 50 years we are very familiar with what is offered in our neighbourhood. They need a bit of a re-fresh in terms of decor as well. Doesn't compare to other restaurants near by with much better food and ambience. Great location but they need to really improve their quality. read more

Ordered roast lamb and it was a piece of meat!! Not fat and bones like I've had at other Greek restaurants. There were bones yes but my meat was lean with almost no fat at all. My partner had the chicken souvlaki and that too was good and not over cooked or burnt. Service was attentive and a pleasant person to deal with because I've had the worst customer service here by rude servers with no manners but it looked like the restaurant changed owners so the FOH is better behaved. Solid Greek place in the Denman area. Glad they survived that Olympic lawsuit. Parking is available on the side streets. The restaurant has been around for ages, so the interior is definitely a bit dated. Stereotypical blue and white (Greek flag) theme, and of course that landscape-themed wallpaper. Lots of character though. Staff were friendly. Special mention for their roast lamb. It really doesn't get much better than this. Nothing like gorging on a chunk of one of these little guys. Generous portions, and the meat is oh so tender. Very reasonable pricing too. Served with the usual pile fo rice, chunk of roast potato, and salad. My friends and I left stuffed. Both the veggie & meat lasagnas are embarrassing to say the least, I can't imagine any restaurant putting their name to this. Veggie lasagna consists of noodles & watery tomatoes, obviously canned, & no veggies otherwise. A little bit of cheese. Seriously, walk across the street to the Nofrills grocery store, buy an 8 dollar frozen lasagna that is three times as big, & much much tastier. Everyone that takes your order are super rude and dismissive, making you feel like you are disturbing them and wondering why you even decided to give them your business. I used to go to Olympia all the time as a kid and haven't been in a really long time; it's still just as good as I remember. We ordered the calamari to start with and it was delicious. The batter was light and crispy, and the squid was tender. The only issue I had with the calamari is that they didn't have any of the spider like pieces which I love, and there is not enough tzatziki with the dish. Next we shared the roast lamb lunch and it was great. It was a huge serving for a very good price, so much so, that my husband was trying to figure out how your could even make money on it. It was tender, easily falling off of the bone, and the flavor was great. Once again, I would have liked more tzatziki, and the potatoes were not the best that I've had, but for the price I really can't complain. I used to always order the baked pastas and my dad always had a pizza. I didn't see any pizza today, but I did see the pasta and was a bit sad that I didn't have enough room to taste it again as it looked delicious with a thick oven roasted later of cheese. Our server was also very sweet and attentive. I will be back soon to try out the pizza and pasta to see if it's as good as I remember. read more

The only reason thus far I haven't given this place a five star is I haven't dined in the restaurant but if the rest of the food is as good as the pizza I had last night I will modify and or add a new one later It is very hard to find a thick or deep pizza in Vancouver, the pizza of choice locally is either thin crust or flatbread, in my other home city (Calgary) there is lots of great pizza places that serve pizza that is "thicker " I ordered the small House Special and it came with free delivery, the pizza was very excellent and the toppings were quite generous, some people have commented that the pizzas there seem greasy or oily but I think that's how the Greek style pizza come when it is generously loaded with cheese and toppings. Honestly I could have saved a couple slices for the next day but the small is more than enough for one person I will definitely order pizza from Olympia again in the future and once the pandemic settles down I even do dine in as I like lamb chops and if the pizza was that good I'm expecting great things with the chops and other entrees on their menu read more

Its always a delicious meal at Olympia Greek restaurant in downtown Vancouver's West End. This was my first time dining indoors as usually I visit in the summer and dine on the patio. Straying from my usual lamb chops or chicken souvlaki... I had the calamari dinner. The sides of rice potatoes and salad were delicious. However I found the squid needed to be a tad crispier and more seasoning. The best way I can describe this pizza - other than it reminding me of old school Mamas Pizza in Steveston - is your Greek style pizza. The crust is a bit greasy and a bit perfect. Small Establishment. Casual laid back atmosphere. Nice Decor. Had the large lamb souvlaki with 2 skewers this night.. Portions are noticeably smaller than Stephos (like 1 piece lemon potato compared to 2 at Stephos) but the meat & rice pilaf here tastes better. Pita Bread is fresh nicely toasted. Since I have noticed Stephos has gone downhill as of late, I guess Olympia will be my new go to Greek Restaurant when downtown. read more

Restaurant was okay and food was also just okay. Got the vegetarian platter for $15 - it came with a baked potato, some flat bread, salad, tzatziki sauce and (I chose) the spanakopita. The bread was nice and soft. The salad came with ONE olive - my husband ordered the lamp special and that also came with just 1 olive. The spanakopita filling lacked flavour... My wife and I were in Vancouver on vacation and just finished a 6 mile walk around Stanley Park. We finished our walk and walked up the street in the west end and ended up at The Olympia. I ordered a reasonable priced beer and the lamb plate and my wife got the hummus. The pita bread was cool because I think they cook it in their pizza oven. Very crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The lamb plate came out with 2 huge hunks of lamb. Just gargantuan. The meat was juicy and not a lot of fat. Great salad and rice that came with it. Just spectacular, and the lunch price was like $10. Our waitress was awesome, gave us some awesome touring ideas for Vancouver as well. Worst spinach salad ever, and they won't fix update their web-site to reflect the ingredients. Their web lists the spinach salad as: spinach, mushroom, bacon bits, parmesan... What they DON'T mention is TOMATOES, which make up 40% of the dish. I'm allergic to tomatoes, so when I ordered this, I got a meal I couldn't eat. I asked them to correct their web-site two weeks ago and they said they would, but still haven't. And who puts tomatoes in a spinach salad anyway? You'd expect strawberries, beets, candied nuts and a raspberry vinaigrette. But no, this is just spinach, tomatoes and Italian dressing. Depressingly bland and, in my case, inedible. I came to visit my Dad in BC and this is one of the places I was brought. It's a small but inviting little place with a nice patio. My Dad and his girlfriend LOVE the pizza here. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try it, since I was so full from my chicken souvlaki. :) Good size portion served with a nice soft warm pita. Not sure how to rate this place exactly. I had the beef souvlaki and my father had the prawn souvlaki. We both enjoyed our meals and felt they were reasonably priced. The meat was delicious in both cases. The rice, potato, and tzatziki were enjoyable. The Greek salad was rather bland imo - too much cucumber and not enough tomato, olives, and red wine vinegar. We ate our fill and enjoyed our food. Overall I would probably give the food here between 3.5 and 4 stars. However, there were enough issues with the service and such that the best I can give it is 2.5 stars. First of all, they had a sign up inviting diners to seat themselves, but all the tables that were on the sunny part of the patio were tables for four, so my father and I chose one of the four-seaters. A few minutes later they tried to get us to relocate to a table for two in the shade, and the waiter did a poor job of concealing his displeasure when I said that no, we'd prefer to stay in the sun, thank you. (The restaurant was nowhere close to full at the time.) Our waitress did her job tolerably, but I don't think she said a single friendly or conversational word to us the entire time we were there. And then they charged us $2 more than the menu price for the prawn souvlaki. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it until after we'd paid, but I double checked a menu before we left, and yep, either they've raised the price of that dish without changing their menus (rude), or they simply overcharged us. Also, their patio tables are in horrible need of cleaning. There's so much old food between the slats on the tables, and it's genuinely kind of gross. Service is not a super important factor for me when it comes to dining out, so we might be back, but I'm not exactly in a hurry about it. read more

The meal was the worst restaurant experience we've had both dine-in and delivery. The lamb and the ribs were both grossly over-cooked. In the words of my dinner partner, "the ribs taste like they were cooked 3 days ago and warmed up." The potatoes and rice were barely warm. The Greek salad was crisp and fresh. Could not eat my meal. The first time in my 58 years I hated greek food. The lamb was dry and looked like it had been cooked days ago and stuck under a broiler. Rice had no flavor at all. The spice they put on the potatoes and lamb over powered them. I have never eaten a Greek potato i dint like until today. The salad had no dressing and just a bit of crumbled feta. The pita bread came straight out if a week old grocery store bag and was cold and dry. It was a huge fail. Honestly never eaten greek food I didnt like before. This was terrible. Great pizza parlor on the West End. Came with my friend, and didn't expect this place to be SOOO busy on a regular spring Thursday night. I just think this place is mainly foot traffic. But anyways, recommended from my friend who lives on the West End says their pizza is amazing. Ordered 2 Mediums and 1 Pasta dish to share with everyone and well, their pizza was DELICIOUS. I mean I was already salivating from the pizza to the table next to ours when I saw it arrive at their table. I was already craving for pizza. We ordered the Lasagna. I mean, it is literally pasta cake, and I don't know how they did it so wrong. I am so sad. I was totally rooting for them. The mozzarella was just not there when we were eating it, and the layers all just died when we put our forks into it. SIGH. I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU PASTA FOOD. Maybe it just wasn't their day. We ordered a Meat Lovers and a some Deluxe thing they offered. I mean it was delicious, and the warm ooze of pizza just filled my mouth.
