Never been to Olympia Restaurant on Denman before but it's an old school Greek spot. They've been around for over 30 years. There's a second location out in Kitsilano. We dropped in on a Saturday (12:15pm) and grabbed seats in their outdoor covered area. Excellent for people watching. The regular menu is large but the lunch menu (12:00pm to 2:30pm) has better deals ($14.00 to $20.00 entrees). All their entrees come with rice, roast potatoes, Greek salad and tzatziki. - Pita - they asked us whether we wanted pitas (uh, yes). Decent. - Roast lamb ($20.00) - good amount of lamb, didn't see much fat. Not much taste to the salad. Potato had a nice bite. - Moussaka ($18.00) - basically, a Greek shepherd's pie. - Beef souvlaki ($18.00) - one skewer of beef. Not bad but fairly standard. - Greek pizza ($22.00 medium) - slightly thicker crust. Liked how it wasn't greasy. Wished the onions were cooked down more. No frills, classic Greek eats at Olympia. 3.5 stars.

This Greek restaurant is located at Denman and Nelson in downtown. It is still in the popular area that attracts tourists or local people to come in and enjoy the Greek food. We came here for lunch as we saw an a-board outside the restaurant that listed $12.45 for lunch specials. Their lunch menu had a wide variety of items and most of the dishes were at a great price. We ordered two dishes from the lunch menu - roast lamb and moussaka. What a great deal! The portion was quite big and the quality was good! Even the pita bread was very fresh baked from the oven. The roast lamb was very tender and tasty. Moussaka was quite big with a lot of beef in the middle. Very delicious! The server here was very friendly and polite. We ordered two cups of hot water with lemon. When she delivered the hot water to our table, she mentioned that the water was boiling hot from the pot, so she asked us to be careful when we drank it. She was very caring about customers. Interior design was a bit old inside the restaurant but the style and ambience along with the Greek music made it more authentic. We love this restaurant and would like to come back and try other dishes.

Solid Greek place in the Denman area. Glad they survived that Olympic lawsuit. Parking is available on the side streets. The restaurant has been around for ages, so the interior is definitely a bit dated. Stereotypical blue and white (Greek flag) theme, and of course that landscape-themed wallpaper. Lots of character though. Staff were friendly. Special mention for their roast lamb. It really doesn't get much better than this. Nothing like gorging on a chunk of one of these little guys. Generous portions, and the meat is oh so tender. Very reasonable pricing too. Served with the usual pile fo rice, chunk of roast potato, and salad. My friends and I left stuffed. Recommended.

Olympia delivered a lousy pizza. Barely warm when it finally arrived. Crust was like cardboard. Do not recommend.

It's a two-story space off of Hastings with a bar downstairs that has table seating and a somewhat quieter upstairs dining area where the kitchen is. I prefer the upstairs area, but both are fine. Don't be misled by the fact that reservations for the bar don't mean that you have to sit at the bar. It could mean anywhere in the downstairs area. The menu is a combination of surprisingly upscale food and straightforward dishes such as pizza, but the pizza is just not ordinary pizza, even though it's reasonably priced. In fact, it's one of the best pizzas in Vancouver. The appetizers are varied and extraordinary. We had the hamachi, which let the fish shine through, and the kanpachi, which was a complex preparation that we particularly enjoyed. Another surprise was the cauliflower hummus, which was much more layered and intricate than you might expect. Service was excellent, and there is a thoughtful wine list plus an enormous selection of liquors such as whiskies and even Amaro. In fact, they have tasting flights of different whiskies and Amaro, which I always particularly appreciate.

Stopped by Nook on Denman Street for a casual Italian comfort food dinner…read more The Food The kitchen turns out straightforward, well-executed classics. We shared a pizza and the Rigatoni Boscaiola. The pizza crust had great leopard-spotting and a chewy, blistered edge, with the tomato sauce tasting bright and fresh rather than sugary. The rigatoni was cooked properly al dente, catching plenty of that savory, creamy mushroom-and-sausage sauce. It's thoroughly satisfying, though like many rich pasta dishes, the sauce leans on the heavier, saltier side toward the last few bites. We finished with a slice of their house tiramisu, which was airy, nicely soaked with espresso, and not overly sweet. The Service Lively, attentive, and down-to-earth. The staff handled the dinner rush smoothly, we were greeted warmly, menus were dropped right away, and wine recommendations were casual and honest. Even with a queue forming near the door, we never felt aggressively pushed out, though the pacing of the plates is definitely brisk. The Ambiance Snug, energetic, and very much a classic West End neighborhood joint. It's a tight room with warm lighting, rustic wood accents, and a bustling open kitchen/bar area that fills the space with good cooking aromas. Because tables are packed closely together, the noise level climbs quickly once the room fills up, so it feels more vibrant and buzz-y than quiet and intimate.

They quickly jumped at my presence and returned to their stations as if they're caught slacking off. First idea was to order a deep dish but a few moments later upon entry I decided otherwise. I opted for 2 slices and a pop. Meatloaf and cheese. The sever didn't bother to warm them. They were dry and like old pizzas. I didn't have very high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised by the pizzas here. They offer a variety of veggie and meat pizzas that can be made with regular crust or deep dish style. We ordered a small deep dish margharita ($19.99) and a medium deep dish butter chicken ($23.99) pizza. Both weren't true deep dish pizzas, but the crust was nice and thick. I'd recommend the pizzas here to anyone who likes a breadier crust. My only minor complaint is that the pizzas didn't have enough sauce to complement the thick crust. The pizzas kept well for leftovers too. They tasted just as good the next day heated up in our toaster oven.
