This weekend's shenanigans took us to Wilmington Delaware. The name of the place? Olympic Subs & Steaks..Real old school place with a real nostalgic feel with old pics and signs on the wall that hasn't changed since the day it probably opened lol..Orders written down by hand with a smile and a hello to everyone who walks in. Place is very clean (A+). Went with the Cheesesteak and crispy chicken sandwich..and if y'all know me, where there's tator tots!! I am to follow fo sho!!!! Cheesesteak was huge! Enough for 2 people at least. Well seasoned, bread nice and soft (not soggy) and the right firmness when you take a bite. The crispy chicken was awesome! And the tator tots of course ...4.7/5 ...Well done! Next time I'm in Wilmington..I'm stopping back! This place is fantastic! I have had the ital sub, cheese steak and gyro!!! all fantastic! highly recommend. piled high with meat but sliced really thin! would eat here every day if i could! Came here for lunch again. Had a cheese steak-one again wasnt disppointed. Also had the nigerian. It was pastrami, turkey and roast beef. Not something i would normally order but my boyfriend ordered it. I was pleasantly surprised. And we shared fries. They were crinkle cut:) Hard to come by but I love them. We had old bay on them too. Three stars for a really great lunch place? Yes because they advertise breakfast and I obliged to the detriment of my palate. Simple home fries and Bacon Egg and Cheese...no! The potatoes tasted funny (like they were recooked?) how does a greasy food NOT use fresh eggs? Eggbeaters for a sandwich? And I LOOOOOVE Bacon. I really like how some bacon taste different from other bacons while still maintaining their bacony integrity... This bacon was a liar! Felt like bacon but the taste was like ...not bacon. I love their cheesesteaks. They are a bit pricy (8.95 for a small) but it is well worth the investment. I have never had anything other than cheesesteaks and fries. Very clean establishment nice friendly staff. read more

One word: "Meh." Did I hate Olympic Subs and Steaks? No, not per se. The food was edible. But it was so bland. And expensive. It's like $14 for an 8 inch steak, tater tots, and a 12 oz. can of soda. I mean, come on. If I'm spending $14 on an EIGHT INCH cheesesteak, it better be %$!@ amazing. Pat's up in Philly, the biggest cheesesteak tourist attraction in the number one city for cheesesteaks, charges less money and gives you a bigger steak. And they basically are a monopoly with tourists. If you're a local, you know where else to go for a cheesesteak, but if you're visiting, or on business, you're going either to Geno's or Pat's to buy a steak. They could each charge $16 for a steak, and their sales wouldn't be affected, but they don't. They charge a reasonable price. One last thing on prices; Olympic charged extra money for tomatoes. What? Tomatoes? Why don't you charge $14 for a cheesesteak, and then an extra 50 cents each for steak, cheese, and the roll while you're at it. The actual cheesesteak didn't even taste that good. I see what they're doing with topping "tons" of meat on top, and how people love it and feel like they're getting a deal, and maybe it works for subs, but not for a cheesesteak. The steak was not juicy, the amount of cheese was VERY small, and the roll was soggy and awful. The steak tasted more like something you'd buy in Seattle, not Wilmington; less than 30 miles from Philly. Another complaint is the cleanliness. Some places are very clean, like Goodfella's; other places aren't as clean, but give off a gritty, blue-collar vibe. This place was neither. It was dirty, and depressing. It looked more like Jack's Country Maid than it did Capriotti's. If you're in the area, and want a sub, go to Gaudiello's in Trolley Square. They won't nickel-and-dime you, and they make the best Italian hoagie you'll ever taste. They're also very friendly (it's a husband and wife) and accommodating. If you want a cheesesteak, walk six blocks down to Bain's Deli on 2nd and Market and get a cheesesteak. Their steaks are delicious, and the place is clean. I gave both of those places 5 stars. Olympic's fails. The only time you should ever eat there is if you're at a new job, and your boss inexplicably loves them (he smokes heavily, and thus can't taste anything) and he tells you to pick them up. Other than that, there are plenty of other delicious sub places in the area that you should go to instead of here. read more

Poor Customer Service that I just experienced!! You may believe that the food is great but would you pour money into a business that doesn't give a crap about your concerns??? How dare they be rude to the very people that helps their company thrive ?????? If it wasn't for us where would it be??? And for a store owner or manager to suck at customer service so much is unfathomable!!! Below is my experience: all truths and I am appalled !!! So I go in the steak shop and I order something. I also tell them that Friday I came in and forgot to grab my soda, do I get it now? (Mind if they would have told me a formal "no" I would have chalked it. It's soda. I don't even drink sodas like that. I wasn't pressed) BUT the lady that was taking my order looked at the girl next to her and that girl flagged her hand and said oh no se has to talk to Pete about that. So the lady that was taking my order continues to write on the paper, so I said "ok so what do I next? Do I get the soda? Or who's the guy that I'm supposed to speak to?" While I'm talking she walks away! Wtf??? So I walk over to the other lady I said excuse who's the owner or who do I speak to because this customer service is poor. She's says well I already asked him and he said no u can't have it. I said that's fine but I want to complain about this poor service, she says over there... So I say do I go over there or what??? .. She says u can go over there. I go over to the guy Pete... I say "I understand that you don't want be to have the soda. It's not even about that, I would like to say that " he cuts me off saying sorry I can't help u continues to turn his back to the grill thing. I'm boiling hot. Because that's rude! So I announce to the entire store that "they are extremely rude. It's ignorant that they won't even hear me out, yet we the customers give them our money and they treat us like crap!" The girl gets pissed cancels my order and tells me to leave. I said no I'm talking to someone. She said I'm talking crap about the store I said no I'm talking truth... And I continued to explain what happened to everybody ... She starts yelling get out. And I stood there. The customers started standing up for me too. Can't say enough good things about these subs!! The owner took our order and told us that his dad had started the business and now him and his brother own it. We got the triple Philly cheesesteak, the pastrami special, the club and the Olympic fries. The Philly cheesesteak was fantastic. Delicious flavor and cheese was just enough, not overwhelming. The pastrami special had a Russian dressing and cole slaw in addition to some other deliciousness. It was perfectly toasted. The club had probably a pound of meat on the small-overstuffed with deliciousness! The Olympic fries were the only disappointment- frozen fries with cheese sauce. The bacon was freshly made though, not bacon bites. Even still, stick to the subs and you won't be disappointed! read more

Best Sub hands down in the State of Delaware.....Affordable and worth every bite. Meat is stacked high...staff makes it the way you like it....I'm a carnivore and I couldn't eat a whole sub. I miss this place...if your ever in Wilmington or even in Philly you must make sure you stop in. You won't regret it. read more

Good steaks and hoagies with nearly endless combinations. Had to edit my previous review. Maybe I caught them on a bad day or ordered the wrong thing for my liking. End up in here about once a week for lunch now. Folks behind the counter are seldom grouchy as others have said. Owners sometimes grumpy, but they way they churn out good sandwiches all through lunch it's understandable. Whatever it takes to do it the yay they do is OK by me. Still not a real fan of their steaks. Guess some people like them like this, but IMO they cook their steak way too much. Different strokes for different folks.. Other than steaks? All good on everything I've tried. The Nigerian Sub FTW!!! Great tasty sandwich on a nice roll. Only downside is there is so much meat stuffed in there it's hard to eat. Definitely not bad thing!!! Plus one star from me based on this delicious monstrosity alone! Good solid Italian sub, too. Chicken cutlet sandwiches are also very tasty and more than a fair price. Monster size subs and they don't go cheap on the meat nor the flavor. The Nigerian is very good. Will definitely be back when in the area.

Wow. That's a sub. Not like most places, where they pile on the vegetables and only put on a bare minimum of meat. The small is big enough for two people to split, or, for two meals. I like that they slice the meat as needed for their subs, instead of slicing it ahead of time, where it can dry out, if it's not stored properly. I'm definitely going back to try another. read more

The cheesesteak itself it's one of the best I've ever had. The service, eating area, and price - all not good. You get rushed when you order and the place is kind of gross - I definitely wouldn't be eating anything that happened to fall off my plate and onto even the tray. They also don't put anything on the fries which as you might expect are bland even after I added salt myself. We spent $26 between the 2 of us for the steaks, fries and drinks - not cheap by any means but not crazy expensive. I would probably go back and pick up a cheesesteak for takeout but that's about it. read more

Worst place ever, solid food and horrible service. They wouldn't even let me order because I was asking what food did they have. They were very hostile with me and would recommend anyone to go elsewhere. Extremely rude, bad service and unwilling to help their community. Just as an observation is that it's in a black neighborhood servicing allot of city folks and honesty not all mom and pop shops care for us all that much. Although I now live outside of San Antonio Texas I always stop at Olympic sub shop whenever I go home in fact I always get two for the Road. Once again Olympic blows me away. This time a delectable beast of a hoagie called 'The Nigerian'. I'm not sure why I went with this hoagie, perhaps all the talk of Nigeria in the news.... I ordered a small and the 215+lb hunk of man that is me had doubts I would finish it in one go. Needless to say, I might not be hungry for dinner tonight. So good I couldn't put the brakes on. Thank goodness for elastic waist bands. Now let's talk quality; and you can probably guess where this is going. Fresh, crisp, veggies, check. Freshly sliced quality cold cuts, check. So I'm in Wilmington on business, waiting at my hotel between meetings, and I want to get a sub for lunch. There are 3 or 4 sub shops within a few blocks, but I pick Olympic as they have great reviews. It is a small storefront, obviously family run, with more kinds of sandwiches than you can imagine. I settle on a Reuben, and then the friendly staff has to walk me through the plethora of choices available. I end up with pastrami and swiss on rye, with coleslaw and russian dressing. I ordered the smallest size, which was more than enough for 2 ordinary lunches. Great quality, very friendly, next time I'm trying the cheesesteak (of which they have about 40 varients). read more

Cheese steaks are very good. Get there before noon for lunch if you don't want to wait long. It gets busy. A small should do the trick for most people. At over $8 for a small though, it's kind of expensive. Probably the best cheese steak in the down town area. read more

Went here last week. Small turkey sub was loaded with turkey! Idk how they make a profit. So much bang for your buck! Also got a chicken Caesar salad one day last week..it was great! I was seriously excited to finally get to experience Olympics. I'd heard some things about it. Since I was finally in the area I thought I'd try them out. I ordered a Small Nigerian Sub, a Small Cheesesteak and four Cheesesteak rolls. I had no idea that a small was soooo huge. Nonetheless I intended to share my food anyways with my work Husband. The Sub was out of this world delicious, the cheesesteak wasn't the best, so I thought. My work husband thoroughly enjoyed the cheesesteak. Now the Cheesesteak Rolls(similar to an egg roll, but filled with cheesesteak) was ridiculously delicious. I would drive back there just for those. The creator of those has blessed hands. read more
