Went here for dinner on a Friday night at around 6 and there was no wait but it filled up as we ate. We got the Samosas as an appetizer, she got the Chicken Tikka Masala extra-spicy and I got the Chicken Biryani Hyderabadi. They gave us rice and naan and didn't charge us for either but not sure if that was a mistake or not. The Samosas were pretty standard. Deep fried pastries with potato and peas and some other spices and veggies in there so it's hard to go wrong with that. I wish there were a meat Samosa option but there is potato / veggie only. Dipping the fresh naan in the Tikka Masala sauce is pretty heavenly but it's so rich that I actually feel my heart working harder with every bite. Also, since Christine K is Korean, it's a given that she has to order her food as spicy as the Supreme Leader, Kim Jong Il can fathom, from the depths of his captured dragon's lungs. She also has to pretend that it's "not that hot" if anyone dares to mention that it's a freakin liquid ulcer waiting to happen. The Chicken Biryani Hyderabadi is similar to dishes that I've previously only gotten at cheaper, no-frills Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi joints like Haandi on 28th and Lexington. It's basically a hodge-podge of chicken, yellowish, brownish, curryish sauce, nuts, raisins, veggies and spices mixed in *with* the rice. This is different than many of the dishes on the menu that come with rice on the side. Anyway, I thought it was delicious and it had a spicy bite to it that was perfect. I'd get this again. The only down-side was that we were seated by the door and with the take-outs, deliveries, and other patrons coming in and out, we kept getting hit with wafts of cold air. To be honest, I think the take out menu may even be better, since you get a free appetizer with your entree. The only downside to some of these Indian places is the lack of free naan. I want unlimited bread in my tummy and I want it now! I wouldn't recommend you ask the staff for a recommendation on what to eat. I wanted some type of lamb dish and the server suggested his favorite dish. Although it sounded delicious I said I wasn't interested because one of the ingredients tastes like licorice which is not my favorite.... no other option could be given. This is my go to place for Indian food on the upper east side. I don't like spicy curry so I get the butter chicken, very mild. It's delicious. My friend gets black lentils and we share appetizers. We also get naan and order some extra rice. We always order delivery and never had any issues besides sometimes waiting longer than an hour. I tried another Indian restaurant's delivery recently because of their tasty buffet but it fell short to OM. Still my top Indian place! read more

I'm not sure I remember when was the last time I had Indian food but I'm so glad I came here. I came with one of my colleagues after work and we ordered some simosas to start with some chutney and green sauce; it was delicious. We then ordered a veggie dish of chic peas and white rice and garlic naan on the side. The portions were so big; it's definitely a dish you can share with a second person. Mediocre for your regular greasy indian food. Those who claimed this is the best Indian food they've ever had really need to try better Indian restaurants... ? At least they actually make it spicy, and it was ready on time for pick up when I ordered way in advance. I think the a la carte curries to be more worth it. Bigger portions plus rice. The special gets you an individual portion of curry, rice, naan, and appetizer. Good if you want a little more of "everything." $5 (incl tax i suppose) for a mango lassi is ridiculous though!! The staff is okay... they're not friendly, nor are they rude. I can see what the other reviewers meant by them being a little awkward but I had no problems with the staff. read more

Strong up-and-comer My friend and I were looking for a quick bite to eat after visiting the Met and we were in the mood for Indian. Solid reviews led us to Om. We were a little hesitant to go in because no one else was sitting there, but our stomachs got the better of us and we decided to go it. Service from start to finish (probably because we were the only people there) was spot on. My water glass was never empty, the servers helped pour our beers for us (it's a BYO), and they checked on us just the right amount. The food was very tasty, although the portions I thought were a little small for the price. We got the Lamb Tikka Masala, Bhindi Masala (okra), and Garlic Nan. They were all served with a bowl of basmati rice. The lamb was pretty tender and the tikka malasa sauce was very tasty with the rice. It had less cream and more acidity to it than I'm used to, but enjoyed this small change. The okra was was also a good addition. I'm a huge fan of okra and I'm glad the substance of the vegetable wasn't lost in the dish. The nan was okay, but honestly too expensive. If you're looking for a solid Indian food, their flavors aren't that bad, just be aware that you might be paying more than what you get. A couple notes: their storefront windows are so cool! They fog up as you walk by, this way diners won't have to look at directly at people passing by when they're trying to enjoy their meal. Also, the music stopped playing several times which made for silence aside for our meal's conversation, which was a little awkward. The pros: all the food is excellent (the onion-stuffed naan and cauliflower starter in particular were amazing, entree's spice-level was perfect for me); nice vibe (empty enough to get a table right away, busy enough to feel bustling and fun); service was excellent as well (regular check-ins, water refills, all the subtle stuff I look for). The cons: The food took forever to come out. "Forever" is a rough estimate--I didn't have my eye on the time, but I walked in hungry and by the time the food arrived I was bordering on hangry and desperate. Maybe there was a mix-up in the kitchen, I wasn't given an explanation. But the servers did seem properly apologetic, and I will say the food was well worth the wait, and portions were so generous I had enough leftovers for a full meal the next day. Ew. I ordered the Om Special for delivery. The lentil soup did not taste like lentils, just oil, grease and garlic. The spicy lamb curry was not spicy, had a layer of grease on top and had dry, flavorless lamb. The naan was good except that it didn't taste like garlic, and I paid $1 extra to have garlic naan instead of regular naan. I requested a side of hot sauce. I was perplexed when I opened the bag of sides and didn't see it. I called the restaurant. Me: I ordered a side of hot sauce. I know the white one is yogurt and the mango one is mango chutney, but what are the green and brown ones? Rest: The brown is tamarind sauce. The green is {whatever he called it}. We gave you that b/c it's spicy but we don't have hot sauce b/c our meat is marinated and spiced before we cook it. And then I tasted the lamb...the dry, flavorless lamb that I requested to be made spicy. My co-worker ordered the chicken tikka appetizer. The flavor was okay. The meat was dry. read more

I ordered food for delivery. 45 minutes later I got a call from a doorman at another building. They had delivered my food to that lobby and left. I called the restaurant they said they would. have to wait for the delivery person to return and then send home to pick up my food from there and deliver to me. They said 15 minutes. 45 minutes later I called and said either send me fresh food or give me a refund. After being on hold for each of these calls, they finally said I could get a refund. 20 minutes later the food arrived to my building. I told my doorman to send him back since the food was spoiled at that point. I used to order frequently from this restaurant but the last 2 times before this they also demolished my delivery order. I was trying to give them one more chance. The food used to be good but the atmosphere in. the new restaurant is gloomy and depressing. I will never order or eat there again. read more

We've had consistently good and welcoming service here. The restaurant has a very relaxing ambiance and vibe. Had the chicken tikka appetizer, veggie dish and sag paneer. All good and not overly seasoned or heavy where we couldn't finish the dish. It's filling but not overly so. Dishes felt like clean eating. Service was the only acceptable thing about this place- the waiter is really polite and accommodating. The food was really really shockingly bad. I was so surprised that there are restaurants still (especially in an area surround by really good indian restaurants like Drunken Munkey and Bengal Tiger) who serve what I call "packeted / boxed" food. Here's what I mean by that: 1. We ordered chili chicken for appetizer and I can guarantee that the base sauce used was ketchup and maybe soy sauce. This is unacceptable for a chili chicken dish. It also came out in ~2min. Which is just shady. 2. Our main course was rice, naan, vegetable korma and butter chicken... The naan was possibly the only thing acceptable about the main meal. The Veg korma had no taste what so ever -- it looked like a Thai green curry with a bunch of heated frozen veggies -- in which traditional veg korma do you see zucchini, large branches of cauliflower, bean stalks and stems of carrots and a white watery gravy? I sent it back and asked for the most conventional item, paneer tikka masala (thinking it was safe). It wasn't. The butter chicken and planner tikka masala were essentially the same thing with different pieces in them. The gravy was basically the pre packaged bottles of the tikka sauce that's sold in Indian stores... I was a college student not so long ago and depended on those bottles for several years. Trust me when I say I know that taste. To sum it up, this restaurant isn't deserving of their tag line, "real Indian food" it was actually the most fake Indian food I've ever eaten. read more

This is the most authentic Indian food I've had in the city and as good as any I've had in London, which in my opinion is as good a town known for Indian cuisine as I've seen outside of India. It's the UPE best kept secret and the staff are amazing and the chef is able to be creative with the menu( I asked for saag aloo and it wasn't on the menu and he made it for me specially) my boyfriend had the goat curry and he loved it. My favorite Indian place on the UES. They have an amazing delivery/takeout deal where you get an app, an entree, rice, and naan for $15.95. When I lived on the UES this was my go to place. The portion was enough for two people share or to save for another meal. That being said, we had to go back while visiting NYC and for the first time we dined in the restaurant. Our dine in order that day - chicken korma (5/5). I have yet to find a place that can make it like om. Perfect blend of spices, nice creamy finish, juicy chicken. It's delish! - samosas (4/5). You can't really mess up potatoes and peas wrapped in dough and deep fried. But the mint sauce and chutneys is what really makes this dish a favorite! - saag paneer (4/5). Om by comparison makes much tastier food - their dish flavors and spices are even and always consistent. Never super spicy one time, bland the next. My view might be a little biased because of my particular dining experience that might be typical at restaurants in NYC. My friends and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night and we were pretty excited to try a BYOB restaurant as they advertised. Unfortunately, upon getting there with a few bottle of Stellas to share, we were told beer was not allowed on the weekends and only unopened bottles of wine were allowed (which also cost a corkage fee). Nowhere was that made apparent when we looked, but we were compliant and put away the drinks. The service was okay for the most part, but telling us we couldn't drink our drinks in a so-called "BYOB" restaurant kind of set the tone for the evening. The weirdest part was they kept trying to get us to order THEIR Stellas which kind of felt like a slap in the face. The food for the most part was decent, but it felt heavy, especially with no A/C and the doors wide open, filling the restaurant with very heavy, hot humid air. Overall, I felt incredibly very sticky and uneasy with what sat in my stomach when we left the restaurant, as did the rest of my friends. Overall, there was nothing too glaringly bad about this restaurant, but all added up to a fairly subpar experience. The food was mediocre, the atmosphere felt a little unwelcoming and attempting to be "fine-dining", out the correct aesthetics to do so. Would be pretty reluctant to go back. There are plenty of places to get Indian food around, I guess I'll have to keep looking. read more

My only complaint is cleanliness..the side of the table cloth facing the wall was horribly stained and disgusting.. It's a small restaurant, but there was no wait. Went to this place from a Google search. We arrived at around 2:20 pm. The moment we arrived, the hostess immediately told us that we arrived in time because lunch specials were ending at 2:45! There was a sign on the window that read "sanitary inspection under review" which made my germaphobe wife a little uneasy. The restaurant was super clean as well as the bathroom, which is more than I can say for most restaurant bathrooms in NY restaurants. The food was amazing and the restaurant was clean!! We have been regular customers probably 2 to 3 times a week since they opened. It seems there was a new chef there today. The food was not good today. But mostly I am upset about how we were treated. I ordered lacha paratha like I always do and what arrived was not lacha paratha. The waiter told me yes this is lacha paratha. I sent it back. He had it made again and arrived with the the exact same type bread. Again he insisted it was lacha paratha. The chicken tiki masala was like water and no taste. When we brought it to the waiters attention he just shrugged his shoulders. We showed him how it was like water and said what's wrong with it. We also ordered a vegetable dish and the cauliflower was hard and under cooked. The prices weren't bad. The food is very good. I was pleased. It had a very nice kick which I love. I had the chicken tikka and the butter chicken (makhni). Both were great. What I love is you can always share with your other guests or take some home for later. The naan was good. Moderately priced though I've been to other places with cheaper bread but the little extra money is worth it for me, Nice little ambience, but they should keep the door closed. Only surprise you may get is additional charges which the waiters must be clear with the customers if asking for 2nds on "papar" or other mini sides. I came here the other night with my cousin who was in town from LA because 2 friends recommended it. We were a little skeptical at first, the sign in the window said grade pending and we were the only people in there but then we saw a delivery guy walk out with 10 bags to deliver so we figured it must be ok! The food was delicious. The decor was lovely. I got the lamb vindaloo and my cousin got some other lamb dish. The only thing that wasn't great, after they cleared out table they didn't offer us a dessert menu and we had to flag someone down for our bill after we waited awhile with our table cleared.
