My favorite Mediterranean place to stop by for lunch when I'm in NYC. I say lunch because unfortunately it does close a bit early for dinner (8 PM) if you eat late. The front of the restaurant is mainly for takeout orders, but the back of the restaurant has a classy decor if you choose to eat in. The ambiance is good for a date night... if you're eating dinner kind of early. The times I have been here; I have always enjoyed the service. The waiter is attentive with making sure you are satisfied. I remember my water being constantly topped off without needing to ask. Also I wasn't sure if the pita bread had free refills, but the waiter did it anyway. Most importantly, the food is excellent especially for the price. You get a ton of food for the amount you pay. I had the Omar's Signature Dish, which included chicken shawarma, lamb adana(my favorite), and I think the kaufta kabob. All the meats tasted tender and were well seasoned. Even though some of the meats are listed as spicy, if you're apprehensive of spicy food, don't be it's not too spicy. I did pick the turkish eggplant to try for the first time, and while I love it for it having a refreshing taste; it is served cold. I love Mediterranean food, but it felt that the food here wasn't all that great. I got the chicken kebab platter. The chicken was a bit on the dry side, where it left me seeking for sauce to accompany it. The tabouli was extremely salty. The hummus was more sour than what I've had in many other Mediterranean restaurants. I also want to note that they overcharge you. The menu above their heads clearly states the price is $20.50, but they charged $21.95. They also tacked on a credit card surcharge, which was 4%. It should have been made clear that there would be a credit card surcharge when I'm about to pay. I had cash on me. I've only noticed these after I left. Highway robbery if you asked me. read more

I've never had this poor of a customer experience ever in my 21 years of living. I was absolutely neglected not only by my server but by the whole staff. After I finished my meal, I had to wait a total of 20+ minutes to be able to pay. I raised my hand for 5 minutes and tried to call out to my server but I was ignored. Then another worker came over to take my plates and told me that he will come back with my check. 15 minutes passed and nothing. Until I had to stand up to try to get the attention of my waiter. That was when I was finally able to pay. I tried to voice my complaints, but I was only faced with aggressiveness. The guy who said he'd give me a check told me to lower my voice when I wasn't even yelling at him. Like was I supposed to be all happy and jolly after you treated me like that????? Of course I was frustrated and I approached in a respectable way. Not to mention I had zero water refills the whole time as well. The manager came over and offered to cover my check which I was thankful for. Zero apologies whatsoever from the rest of the staff. This should've been a good thing, but somehow they made it worse. They tried to charge me TWICE for the meal. Thank god I wasn't an idiot. They asked for my card and gave me another receipt asking me to pay again for the meal I already paid for. I was smart enough to notice and correct it which they finally gave me a refund for. I still can't believe I was treated like this at a restaurant and I feel extremely disrespected by them. Stopped in with a coworker for lunch. We both got the Omar Special. The waitress was really nice! And on top of everything. The hot pita bread was amazing. Unfortunately, I'm never coming back to this restaurant again. The food is pretty decent, but the pricing has gotten completely out of hand and $21 plus tax and tip for a lunch special. Beyond that, the staff and manager are completely rude and disrespectful of their customers. I will never give my business to an establishment that treats their customers so disrespectfully. Went back because my coworkers love it. Tried the falafel wrap and spinach with chickpeas the wrap was huge! Falafel was too big and not crispy. Vegetables were fresh though and they have very very good pita. The spinach with chickpeas was big for a side. Definitely like a soup curry? And needs rice with it. One of the best meals I've had in the city in a really long time. I'm kind of guilty of going to hype, cutesy, popular places, so this was a real treat. I wanted something that was high protein and had salad and was tasty, so I stopped by. I got the lamb Adana, hummus, and Greek salad. The pita bread smelled so good, like they just made it. I ordered food from here for my daughter's wedding. I told them I needed enough food for 50 people. They sent me enough food for 150-200 people! I never received an invoice for the food at all. It was disgusting how much food was there. There were 2 full pan EACH of the 3 different kinds of meats, a gallon of hummus too. We should have had only 1 half pan EACH of the 3 different kinds of meats! I asked the wedding coordinator try to donate it to a shelter. We were from out of state, so there was no way to keep it! I'm not a falafel person, but the falafel here changed me. My problem with falafel is that it's usually so dry. Omar's falafel is different in that it is so crispy on the outside and perfectly nutty and herby and overall light on the inside. Everyone here has always been so nice, they even give out free samples if you go closer to closing time. I've only done take out, but there appears to be a lot of casual seating. At that time the portions were large and the restaurant was big and spacious; however, the meat with a little bit on the dry side and was not too memorable at that time. This time for delivery we ordered and shared two platters. The first one was a Kaufta Kabob main. The kabob was delicious and very flavorful. It came with two pieces so it was easy to share between the two of us. We had some humus and baba ghanoush on the side which was also great. For the second platter we ordered a chicken shawarma as the main which was very flavorful and yummy. The fries it came with were good but a bit too oily. We also got the cucumber and yogurt salad which basically tasted like tzatziki which was also great. However, I definitely preferred the humus and baba ghanoush. There was also a generous handful of packaged white sauce and hot sauce in the bag for extra sauces. Each of platter came with a small amount of greens which honestly worked to soak up some some of the extra grease and flavor pretty well and two pieces of pita. For dessert it also came with a small piece of baklava. Everything was packaged very well. All of the flavors were great and portions were very large. Both of us were able to save enough for a meal the next day. All in all, a great delivery option for your next meal! read more

Agreeing with the masses here, Omar's makes fast-casual chains look bad. The quality of the food is notable, to call it an elevated halal cart doesn't totally capture what it is. When the sides come into play, it's hard to imagine how it could be any better. My go-to order here is the signature platter for $23. This place use to be solid when they first opened but now it's going down the drain because they mess up your orders when placed online. We typically place a large order for lunch but twice it was missing items. Also, when you call about the missing items they apologize and say they will credit you back. This is a great Mediterranean spot in midtown and a great place for you to have a quick grab and go! Food: I ordered the chicken shawarma platter which comes with two sides. The chicken shwarmama was amazing, the chicken was juicy and well cooked and seasoned. I got the spinach with chickpea over tomato sauce which was really good! When they say hot, they do not mean spicy, they mean temperature wise hot. It was like a soup but did not have that much chickpeas. I also got the hummus which was good and went well with the shawarma. All of their sides looked really good. They provide a lot of sauces with your order and a piece of baklava and I have to say the baklava was amazing! I am not sure how I've been working per diem in the building right across the street from Omar's for the past two years and did not know they ever existed! My review is for lunchtime take away only... We had a break between patients and two of my coworkers were headed out for lunch, overheard my laments about being hungry and invited me along. They filled me in on how good the food is and that I would not be disappointed. I was stoked to learn the restaurant is a two minute walk from our office. I'm not gonna lie though, the line for lunch had me shook; it was looooongggg but the girls assured me not to worry because the line moves fast and they did not lie. I ordered their lamb adana platter ($12 bucks!) which came with two large pieces of spicy grilled lamb patties, two choices of sides (4 falafel & tabouli for me), a side salad, warm pita, three sauces and a free piece of baklava! The food is bomb! The garlicky sauce they give you is good enough to ask for an extra. There is most definitely no worry that anything has been sitting for too long because I think I saw them replace just the hummus two times over in my twenty minute stay in the restaurant (I'm exaggerating but the turnover is real). The food is super fresh and plentiful. I ate it all because I was starved but you could definitely split the serving into two lunches. I'm definitely going to come back here. The staff is very efficient so don't let the line scare you. Our guy in the front who put together our orders was the best and I wish I got his name. I just know I'll be going back to him every time I visit. Even if you spent 20 minutes to cummute to Omar's, you'll still have time to pick up your food and get back to work before your lunch hour is over. Doesn't look like much when you pass by, but I was craving Arabic food and this is the closest to work. I ordered a Chicken Shawarma Platter for pickup and it was ready in 5 mins. I came to pick it up in 15 mins, and they had thrown it out (apparently because they find pleasure in serving food hot). That's great but the reason I pre-ordered was to be able to grab it and run for the train after work. Anyways, it was prepared again in 5 mins, nice and fresh. GREAT food, but just 1 piece of pita with soooo much chicken! Unhappy with that! So less pita, lots of perfect shawarma-chicken, lots of yumm hummus and lots of extra sauces.
