Lamb adana w/ cucumber yogurt, mediterranean rice

Solid choice for a Mediterranean meal. Ordered from DoorDash (note there is a $markup using that platform) for pickup so my meal (lamb adana) was on the pricier side. Generally speaking all the components were prepared and seasoned well and its a decent meal to share. It did however got a bit too cold when I brought it home due to its thin plastic packaging. Best to eat asap.

Went full gladiator mode at Omar Mediterranean Cuisine (154 E 55th St). Ordered the Lamb Kafta Kabobs like a grown man with responsibilities. Two grilled, seasoned patties that looked like they bench press on weekends. Fresh garden salad to keep it "balanced" (tomatoes, red onions, shredded lettuce -- because we respect vegetables... sometimes). Seasoned roasted potato wedges with herbs? Elite. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside -- the kind of potatoes that make you question every fry you've ever had. Vegetable stew with eggplant and tomatoes came in strong too. Rich, hearty, no nonsense. Then I finished it off with baklava that basically whispered, "You earned this, king." Perfectly sweet, flaky, dangerous. Portions are generous, prices are solid, atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the service? Friendly and efficient -- they move like a championship team. And let's talk about that homemade tzatziki and homemade hot sauce... absolutely lethal combo. Cool, creamy, then BOOM -- flavor uppercut. Midtown Manhattan, but make it Mediterranean warrior fuel. #foodieinthebigapple2025 #nyceats #mediterraneanfood #midtownnyc #lambkafta #baklava #mensfood #nycrestaurants

Chicken Kabob "Platter" - small amount of dry chicken, and "salad" was only a few leaves.

I usually go to the other midtown east location on 41st but today I was shopping in the area and went to this location. The food was so different and it's very disappointing. The side salad were a few sad leaves with no dressing, the other location offers a mix of green leaves, tomato, onion with dressing. The amount of meat was also less, and the chicken was very dry. The service was very good and attentive though, but I'm pretty sure I won't come to this location again.

Fresh, Flavorful, and Totally Satisfying - a Mediterranean Gem This place is everything you want in a Mediterranean spot: fresh ingredients, bold flavors, generous portions, and a menu that hits all the right notes. From the perfectly seasoned shawarma and juicy grilled kebabs to the creamy, rich hummus and crispy falafel, everything tastes like it was made with care and tradition. They also do a great job with variety. Whether you're vegetarian, craving meat, or just want a little bit of everything, there's something here for you. The platters are especially great if you want to mix and match. Bonus points for the friendly staff and quick service. Whether you're dining in, grabbing takeout, or ordering ahead, it's always smooth and efficient. If you're looking for Mediterranean food that actually delivers on flavor (and doesn't feel like a bland, watered-down version of the real thing), this is your spot. Highly recommend!

Great food but menu is a little limited. Staff is very warm and kind. Hummus and babaganoush are very tasty sides with the rest of the meal. Delicious French fries too!

Not much to look at from the outside, but once you are seated and away from the buffet service, then everything begins to fall into place. We ordered their signature Mediterranean dish with a selection of meats, Turkish eggplant, and baba ganoush. They are well worth a visit. And I would say a solid recommendation

I love getting takeout from this store. The portions are huge, the service is fast and if you come during a work lunch, expect a line. The only thing I will say is that I do think the price is a little steep however, the portions are huge.

Ordered lunch for pickup and it was super quick. The portions are incredible. So much food! The standouts were the garlicky white sauce over the chicken shawarma (I want to buy a jar) and the turkish eggplant! The falafel was very good, crunchy outside with a nice fluffy inside. The hummus was a great texture. The pita was very thick which I hadn't had it that way before but again, super generous amount of it. They give you so many extra sauces on the side too! Would definitely order here again!

So much flavor in every bite and the service was impeccable. The food was fresh and tasted delicious! What really impressed my friends and I the most was the level of service. Isidro, who goes by, "Chile." Made us feel like we were having a family dinner at home. So much warmth, attention to detail, and went far and beyond to make our party feel welcomed! I can't recommend enough!

Very solid all around. Stopped indoor a late lunch and had a great meal. Chicken shawarma lunch plate with Greek salad and rice. Service was polite and prompt, and ambiance was very relaxed. Icing on the cake was a complimentary piece of baklava at the end of my meal. All were delicious. The tahini, garlic sauce and even the hot sauce were very flavorful. Not the traditional dark red hot sauce of typical Mediterranean fare but a more creamy yet spicy and flavorful blend.

Ask the Community - Omar's Mediterranean East Midtown

Is this place open? I see in the reviews it shut down not too long ago after a fire.

    It just reopened.

Is the meat served: lamb, beef and the chicken especially hand-slaughtered halal? From which companies are these meats attained? Also, has this business been verified as Halal by the SBNY (Shariah Board of NY)

According to the host at the restaurant, the menu is Halal. The meat I believe for this location may be from a place called Leader Halal Meat on 3rd Ave., Brooklyn. At least for their other location on E. 39th St, that's where the meat is from.

First thing you'll notice upon entry is how absolutely decorated it is. If you're a fan of Witcher, it's like walking into an an old-timey tavern. If you have no idea then-- it's like an old-timey tavern. I wouldn't be surprised of they had bard Fridays and homemade mead. It's also a big space. Reminds me of one of the last remnants of the bygone era that was the Obama-era glow. Like peak millenial where restaurants were starting to get viral but not to the point where they have to hyper compete with a gimmicky dish. The prices are a bit steep and was making me consider dropping my rating down a star but fuggit, I like their food. I played it safe and got the mixed grill meats but that's because I lack reading comprehension and thought the main dish (I don't know what it's called, it's just the 1st entree listed) was a baked meat pie situation, it was more grilled steak on a bed of mash potatoes but these mash potatoes were savory like gravy. I wish I got my friend's dish. The mixed grilled meats were a lot closer to doners or skewer meat. Different cuts but also different flavors. What they had in common was a sort of spice-forward sizzling taste. My friend got two appetizers (which I also don't know the name of) but were definitely the most beautifully presented foods I've had in a long while. They were both creams but one had a pepper in it (not the spicy kind). The pepper one was a light refreshing sourness and the other was a heavier but not heeeeavy savory one. Both great to dip your bread in. I wanted to try the lemon cookie for dessert but my friend got us all Tres Leches by accident. That was great but I would say the most non-novel out of everything we got. Delicious, just not something out of the norm-- which is what I go for when I'm trying a new cuisine like Albanian. I wouldn't say this is normal day-to-day Albanian (I have a few friends), it's more like the Americana equivalent, an upscale where Albanians go out to eat.

We were lead upstairs to a table. There were 7 of us The seating was cozy but not cramped. We started with 7 family style small dishes: Hummus with Falafel Pops (chickpea purée, tahini, falafel, olive oil), Spring Burrata (roasted cherry tomatoes, toast, basil oil), Hamachi Crudo (passionfruit vinaigrette, citrus zest, cucumber, mint, sesame tuile), Scallops (carrot puree, serrano pepper, brown butter sauce), Tenderloin Skewer (zaatar chimichurri, fresh herb salad), and Shiitake Stuffed Grape Leaves (tomato coulis, yogurt foam, herbs). Everything was delicious. The hummus was well seasoned the falafel had a nice crunch. It went well with the warm puffy gyro bread that came to the table. The burrata was wasm and creamy. I love the vinaigrette on the fish. I ended up eating most of it. The scallops were the sweetest, most tender ones I have ever had. The tenderloin skewers were tender and well seasoned. I liked the grape leaves but the rice consistency was very soft almost mushy and you can barely tell there were mushrooms. There was barely any mushrooms flavor. Next we all chose an entree. I got the duck breast, my husband and daughter each had the beef tenderloin. The duck breast was smaller than i expected. The skin was nicely seared and very crispy but boy did it give my jaw a workout. It was done medium rare. It was juicy but tough. The small beef tenderloin was tender and smoky. The waiter poured the sauce over the tenderloin for added flavor. Finally dessert was a fruit plate with ice cream and pudding. The fruit was fresh and the flavors of the ice cream and pudding unique. It was a nice end to a good brunch. The price was a little expensive at $85 a person.
