Did Laboratory of Biohazard with a buddy and we got out in around 50 minutes. Puzzle was good although mostly linear with a couple of good twists. I would rank Penitentiary as #1, Lab #2 and Room X #3 IMHO. There were a couple of minor issues. 1) The puzzles use a lot of electronic locks, etc, and a couple of the items were malfunctioning so it took us a while to realize that we had gotten the solution but the mechanism was broken 2) The gamemaster stepped away for a bit so when we asked about it he didn't immediately respond. As the first team that conquered the "Room X" within an hour, we considered ourselves lucky. Soon after the game started, you would realize not only the challenging puzzles but also the time and anxiety prevented you from escaping the chambers filled with secrets. Wasn't a huge fan of this one (lab of biohazard). We've done 20+ escape room in New England and Canada and this one ranks toward the bottom. For a company that markets themselves as "high tech", the technology was pretty underwhelming. The puzzles kind of felt tacked on and a few were pretty unclear, and others felt more like homework than fun. One of more interesting interactions didn't work properly even though we knew exactly how to solve it. The 'controller' wouldn't respond at times and caused us to have to start over several times. At one point, the game master told us to undue a puzzle we had solved correctly, then redo it (presumably to reboot the tech). Some of the room elements were pretty cool, but others felt very lazy (laminated wallpaper paper peeling off revealing the out-of-theme wall behind it, sharpie marks that were worn off of dials which made it hard to determine if the dial was pointing to what we needed it to, cheap looking props, written instructions in poorly translated english). I don't want to be totally negative, so I'll say that the 70 min time limit is more generous than most rooms. Also the theme was unique and would make for a cool environment and story if it was revamped. We unfortunately won't be back to omescape, but they do have some potential if they put some energy into learning from their competitors read more

It was so much fun!! Did the reservation the same day in the morning and it was no problem. Never experienced a escape room that was multiple rooms in one. The story line was great as well. Laboratory of Biohazard. We attempted the room with just two people and I highly recommend at least 4. Great staff and unique puzzles. It's a pretty tough room for a newbie and myself (this was my third room at this point, since the writing of this review I've now done 43 escape rooms). We did not escape, but we had a great time. We were given 70 minutes to solve the room and I was impressed with the technology and production value. Disclaimer: this was my first ever Escape Room experience so I lack comparative insight! Also, I didn't have to pay (thank you boyfriend) so the cost isn't being factored into my review. The venue is around 4-5 blocks from the Times Square metro station, so the location is pretty good. Although my boyfriend didn't book a private room, we got to play with just the two of us given our reservation was for 8:30PM on a Monday evening with torrential rain. Isabelle, the staff member who prepped us, was very friendly and patient as she explained what our mission in the Biohazard Lab would be. Because it was my boyfriend and my first ever Escape Room experience, we didn't realize we had more than 1 room to explore... and spent around 20 out of 70 allotted minutes in our first room until Isabelle caught on and told us via walkie talkie that we had to find a way to escape the first room and enter the next. It ended up working out however because Isabelle gave us an EXTRA HOUR, free of charge, for us to escape (I think it worked in our favor that we were the last group of the day, so there was no other group after us)! If not for that extra hour, we wouldn't have been able to escape, and I likely would have left feeling incredibly frustrated and swearing never to return. It was clear that Isabelle had had to stay behind to close the shop because of the extended time she gave us- what amazing service! Will definitely return! read more

So much fun! Was kind of afraid to do this at first, but I thought the clues were really well thought out, but decipherable. We were 30 seconds away from finishing the penitentiary room. Only thing i would say is sometimes we would get the answer to a clue but wouldn't get the result right away due to equipment malfunction. Happened twice during a multi-equipment 1hr 20 minute run tho so it was fine. Guy on walkie talkie offered good hints when we were stuck. Staff are super friendly, room is challenging and fun. I went with two friends and we did the penitentiary game. The cost was $38 on the weekend and $33 on the weekdays. The penitentiary is one of the harder games and had five rooms. We picked this place as they were well reviewed for their technology. We were paired with about 8 other people playing this slot. They divides us into three initial teams and put us into three separate rooms. Each team had to escape their individual rooms and then we were all together in a larger room and had to solve the remaining rooms together. The technology was great with lasers etc and the clues were challenging. Don't worry the staff will give you clues if you ask! read more

So far I've done both Room X and the Penitentiary. The Penitentiary: We did this room with one other couple but weren't able to escape. Despite that, we had a ton of fun. It was challenging but not impossible once you got the hang of the clues and they were pretty linear. I love the room decor and how they use technology. You start off in different cells, and that really added to the atmosphere and overall fun of this room. Room X: We did a modified version of this room since my party was only two people, but we still had a blast. We just about managed to escape, I think in part because I got a hang of the way the puzzles work here (and because we weren't afraid to ask for clues this time). Great set up, would have loved to have done the larger set up of this room. Overall: Booking was easy, and the website easy to navigate. They also tend to have decent amount of spots open so there wasn't as much of a worry about booking very early. The second room we did, we just walked to the place and booked 30mins before. The cluemaster is pretty helpful and enthusiastic, and he was willing to give us extra time to run through the remaining puzzles when we did the Penitentiary because we were the last booking for the night. When we did Room X, he also showed us what the other set up would have been. This room place is pricier than others, but I thought the decorations and use of lasers, etc., was worth it. You're also allowed unlimited hints. I love it here, and will be back to do the last room in the near future. read more

We decided to do the penitentiary, because we loved the storyline and the fact that it is the most challenging room there (only a 10% success rate). We made it out the Penitentiary! The game was super crafty with lots of tasks for me and my ten friends to complete and we literally escaped down to the second! I loved that me and my friends were separated in jail cells first because it forced us to work in smaller groups at first before meeting the rest of our team members. The only hiccup was every time the clue giver announced something in the room no one could hear it because we were all talking! The walk-in talkies we were given were also kind of confusing with such a big group. I think this game works best with 6 -8 friends instead of 10-12 but we still made it and had a blast! We just went to OMEscape again last night to do Room X and it was a great time ! With Room X, your group is split up into two groups to start the room and then you meet in the middle to complete the escape. You have to work together without being in the same room at times so it's a fun, collaborative effort. In the end we were able to escape just in time, with a few seconds to spare. Unfortunately the door did not open even though we entered the code correctly. We definitely needed more clues for Room X, as it was a lot harder than the Biohazard room. Overall, I will definitely be recommending this place to my friends (and already have!) We will be back again once we find enough people to do the Penitentiary - then we will have done all three rooms they offer! read more

I went with a group of roughly 20, and since our entire group had not arrived yet, they let us go upstairs first to wait--there were lots of board games that we could entertain ourselves with first. When our group was all here, we were split into 2 groups, one in prison break and the other in bio laboratory. I was in the latter. and the room was definitely challenging. There is a lot of observatory skills involved--it's easy to miss clues if you don't look through the entire room very careful. Very bad experience. We call 5 hours before to make the reservation, the person on the phone didn't say we need to pay over the phone in order to set the reservation. When we get there in 5 hours, he told us the room was taken because other people paid!!! We made reservation first!! Otherwise why it called a reservation!! This place locates on 38th St, where the transportation is very convenient. I have been a video game fan of room escaping for dozens of years, and this time play on spot gave me so much fun. The room chosen is called laboratory biohazard, where makes you the hero byliby means of saving environment and lives. It was challenging to figure out clues and I am not that good to think outside of the box. But the whole process was interesting, and my friend and I were both engaged in for the overall 70 minutes. I'm from China, and Omescape is a well known escape room in China. I have played there couple times, and I love that place. When I found out there is one in New York, I was super excited. I have to say that this place is awesome, much better than my expectations. I had a extremely good time here, and I highly recommended people to come here to play. They have three games, and I definitely will come back for the other two. I played Laboratory this time, a little bit hard but definitely can handle it. I've done about 10 escape rooms (including the Zelda escape room) and this is by far one of the most disappointing ones. My friends and I were expecting a high tech room like in the pictures and what we did get (X room) was the basic game room that would easily cost less than $30. We even called about the number of rooms and we were told 7. What we got was 5! Sure it was fun splitting up our group but having two different themed rooms it was really annoying. My group had got through to our meeting point but we had to wait for over 20 minutes for our second half to get through. We couldn't even help them out because they had a completely different layout. The high tech portion that they proclaim to have was very misleading. A few lasers from cutout boxes does not mean it is very high tech. I've been to rooms with RC cars that was more exciting. The puzzles that we had were decent but too simple for an experienced player. And some of the puzzles were really loosely designed that they were a little far fetched. Seriously, a photo on a wall with an arrow does not mean it should point to a very important shelf on the floor. And we had to do all of this in a dimly lit room. At one point, we all wanted to take out our cell phones for flashlights instead of sharing one flashlight (but we had to give our cell phones before the game started). Staff are friendly (which is why I gave it 2 stars) but spoke very softly so sometimes listening on the walkie was so difficult. You can find better rooms at cheaper prices in Manhattan (I know, I've been to one) read more
