best sushi place in brooklyn for price / taste ratio. A lot of times my main debate is whether to eat at a buffet or eat at omiya but a lot of times i choose omiya because I eat till I am satisfied and I wind up spending less than at a buffet. Their 86th st location is good but I don't like their Avenue U location maybe because the sushi chefs there are better than the Avenue U location. Edit 1/3/2012: Someone did send me a message saying Ki Sushi would give them a run for the title however the difference is that Omiya sushi cost around $3 for most regular rolls and all the special rolls are buy one get one free of equal or lesser value. Their special rolls range from I believe 6.95 - 30. Ki Sushi could be better but it cost at least $5 for a roll unless there is a special at ki sushi but I did mention for price / taste ratio for omiya is the best, for $3 you are getting pretty great sushi I do not recommend ordering food and eating out of there they usually do a better job when you eat in, I have went to omiya over 10 times there were two times the rice was not great. There are many $3ish sushi places in brooklyn but Omiya has the best one out there. read more

After shopping around 86th street I would stop by here for lunch. The sushi is pretty ok and for a really good price. There's buy one get one free sushi and that's awesome! Back then it was $2.50 a roll, but I guess due to economic times now the sushi is $3.00 a roll. Sad, but it is still in reasonable prices compare to other places. read more

The best Japanese food and sushi you can get in this area! The prices are incredible. $3.00 - $3.25 for basic rolls and buy one get one free for special rolls. The quality of the fish is amazing. Ginza roll, 007 roll, spider roll and anything with salmon rolls are highly recommended. The bento boxes are filled to the brim and they are also excellent quality. Have tried quite a bit on their menu and have never been disappointed. The delivery is prompt and the driver is courteous. Excellent place and highly recommended. Go now! read more

This was my go to Japanese restaurant when I use to live on 86th street and it never seemed too crowded or was there ever a wait to be seated. The last time I went back to NY after moving to Hawaii I tried their sushi again and to my surprise I didn't really enjoy it as much as I used to. I guess after living on an island where there is an abundant amount of fresh fish, my palate has simply changed. Food: The presentation of the sushi rolls where fantastic. It looked very appetizing and screamed "take a picture of me, I dare you!" However I felt differently about the sushi. I didn't know whether it was the sauciness of the sushi or the stuff piled randomly into one roll that made me want to stop eating after after 3 pieces. I couldn't even tell what was salmon and what was tuna in one of the rolls. For those of you who have had good sushi before you will know right away that the raw sushi they serve is not the freshest out there. I would probably stick to the cooked rolls next time I go back. I've never had one of the bentos before so I cannot comment on that. On the plus side their menu has cute names such as the "LV roll" or the "Gucci roll" and I always have fun wondering what makes the roll so LV or Gucci. I always have a good time debating about this with others. So for presentation: Yay! For taste: Nay! Service: I was greeted right as I walked in the door by the sushi chefs and the waitresses. The food arrived fairly quickly and the waitress was attentive enough to pour me more tea when my cup needed a refill. Overall I received standard service that I'd expect from a dine-in restaurant. Price: This place is a good place to eat for people on a budget especially high school students or for a quick bite. Especially their buy one get one free rolls( you can share with a friend). But this is not a place to take a prospective client or someone you are trying to impress. I also remembered that I had received point cards from them before which you can collect and then claim prizes off of their display case in the back of the shop. You receive this point cards for every meal eaten there. However I did not get any this time so I am not sure if they still do the point cards or not. read more

Ok I ordered food online. I was called two separate times to be told that price of the food was increased, first by $2 then by $1. This was very annoying and I'm sure it delayed delivery. After an 1 hr I call to see where my order was because I still haven't received it and I'm told it's on it's way. I'm never ordering from this place again. What a complete headache. Even though they have the buy one get one free for the special roll, it isn't that worth it anymore. I ordered the eel lover and some salmon roll which was part of the special rolls. As for the eel lover, it said there would be eel outside and inside. Of course there was eel outside and inside, but the portion of the eel compare to the cucumber was extremely off. There was approximately 90% cucumber and 10% eel. Why would they call this roll an eel lover when it would be called cucumber lover? Other than this, the wasabi was totally diluted. I added so much wasabi that the soy sauce turned brown but I still didn't taste any wasabi at all. read more

Poor service. Everything was just off about this place. So me and my brother go to this place for a quick lunch. We saw that they had some good lunch specials so we decided to go and check it out. We ordered our food the lunch special and some sushi rolls. We get our salad for the lunch special first and we start eating the salad. As we're eating a lady and a man comes in and sits besides us. We finish our salad and now waiting for our meal. 15 min later nothing and we see two meal coming out which goes to the table beside us. Now we are just wondering what the wtf is going on.. We didn't say anything. After 10 more min we get our food. The food was okay, it was a cheap lunch special so we didn't expect anything good. So we finish our meal and we get our bill. It was 40 dollars and gratuity was included. We were again like wtf is going.. It was lunch time and it was only couple of us. I mean did they really think we weren't gonna tip. We just paid the bill and got out of there. The worst thing you could make a customer feel that's what they did. Unwelcome. Never going back to this place and wouldn't recommend it. read more

How could u beat a buck for a piece of sushi??? I know there are a few sushi restaurant in Bay Ridge offer $1 per sushi, but I have to say that this guy do the best job. (yes, I have tried them all) Of course, it is kinda unfair to compare to those sushi establishment whose charge 2-3 bucks for a piece of sushi, but for what u pay for, this is a decent place for sushi. The 1st thing u will notice, they always have 3 sushi chefs standing behind the sushi bar, so u know right away that they do a lot of sushi, otherwise, how could they afford three chefs, right? Price is excellent here, even for sushi roll, they do offer "buy 1 get 1" deal too, although I am not too crazy about their rolls. Sevice is great here too, as I remember the 1st time I ordered take-out & the waitress was extremely helpful and spent the time to explain. read more

BEWARE!!!!! Don't buy gift certificates from restaurant.com to Omiya sushi. I just brought a gift certificate from restaurant.com to Omiya Japanese restaurant and was pretty excited to go check out their sushi. Much to my surprise, the waitress told me that they are no longer listed as a participating restaurant on the website and that the certificate has expired as of January 11, 2011. I was pretty annoyed; because I had just brought the certificate two days ago and they were suppose to be valid for one year. The staff was not apologetic about the entire situation when I inquired about the certificates and made it seem as if it was entirely my fault for buying them online. I was pretty upset to say the least, because I had made a long trip to go check out the restaurant. =( I noticed that yelp still has the advertisement to purchase gift certificate for Omiya Japanese Restaurant at restaurant.com. Either it was the fault of the website or the restaurant (because they choose to not honor the gift certificates). I have eaten at every sushi restaurant in Bay Ridge at least once and this is my third favorite (after Fushimi and Sushi Hana). The creativite and extensive roll list is really unmatched. My husband was so obsessed with the rock shrimp that he would ask for it on a weekly basis (not ask for sushi, mind you, just ask me if we could order rock shrimp). I had a few things I didn't like here and every now and then the seaweed would have that weird packaged taste to it, but having eaten here probably 30 times (after I moved to Sunset Park and no where else would deliver), I can say it was good most of the time. read more

The quality of the food had decreased dramatically. It went from a 5 stars to 2 stars. The last time I went there, the food tastes like plastic. Not great. I went with my friends last time, and the food grossed me out. Salmon sashimi was very warm and stale- basically not fresh at all. Not only that, but the spicy salmon and the spicy tuna rolls were also very warm! Also, the rice in the sushi must've contained too much vinegar because I could actually taste it! Omiya is my ALL-TIME favorite place for sushi. No other place can beat it. It is very affordable, large portions, and very tasty. Although it sounds like ordering delivery from here may not be a good idea, eating in and picking up is just fine for me. I have never had an issue with their food. Other sushi places will cost you $5-10 for a regular roll that tastes very bland. Omiya has an assortment of regular rolls for $3.25. You simply cant beat it. read more

I call them to tell them they forgot the eel sauce, they tell me that it will take 30-40 min for them to deliver it. It was there mistake and they make no accommodations to fix it. A Sushi standard Anyone would be lucky to have a place like this in their neighborhood. Friendly staff, GREAT prices, fresh tasting. The promotional special rolls they advertise on the board are typically worth trying at least once. They will ask your opinion on it if ordered. If they gain popularity, they are added onto the regular menu. They also do buy one, get one half off their extensive list special rolls. Rezos are currently not needed, but if you come with a group you can call in advance and they will certainly accomodate. Try with dinner: their Nigori, or unfiltered sake. They have the freshest sushi I have ever ate. This place is my favorite sushi place. No other place compares. Not only is the sushi fresh but they give big portions. The have a very large roll menu also. The AK-47 roll is my favorite. I eat mostly sushi not rolls. But hand down this place is the best. Staff is very friendly. The sushi is fresh and the rolls are really pretty and look appetizing. There is that one special roll that doesn't contain rice and it's rolled in cucumber. It's super tangy so beware. If I am not in the mood for sushi, I get the special seafood noodles. It's made with soba noodles and served cold. It's amazing and so different than anything I have had before. I eat sushi at least once a week and being a vegan there are only about four rolls to chose from - Cucumber, AAC, Sweet Potato,and one with pickled veggies. This place has about a dozen and they are at a great price! My favorite is the seaweed roll which is DELICIOUS. Its spicy flavored seaweed! My friends who are fish eaters complained about the small slices of fish and the large amount of cucumber. About 1/6 fish, shrimp or kani and the rest was cucumber or small slices of avacado. Service was borderline awful. Waitress was nice but ditzy. Took my order wrong after I repeated it to her, and forgot to bring out desert for half the table. HOW DO YOU FORGET DESERT FOR HALF A TABLE? Overall my seaweed roll and the price was good enough to give this place a 4/5. read more

After signaling the the waitress, she begins to slowly walk over, hop on the stool foot by foot, raise her paw and bam. The little buddy didn't even get his last words.
