I came here with a friend for Taste of the Tri-Cities and we were both amazed at the quality and service we received. To begin, we were greeted by an extremely friendly and cheerful server who genuinely seemed happy to serve us. He took our food order first as we weren't decided on drinks yet and said he would return shortly after he put our food order in. My friend ordered the 3 course menu, while I ordered the 5 course menu. He did note that since they were still new at serving the taste of tri-cities menu he wanted to get our order in right away as it tended to take longer than some of the other menu items. A few minutes later he returned for our drink order, and I requested a grape-ade drink (white grape flavoured lemonade?). Another few minute later, he returned with our drinks. Mine was absolutely delicious and reminded me of a particular Japanese white grape flavour that I love. After getting through a third of our drinks, our server returned very apologetic. He advised that our courses were taking longer than expected to be served and therefore we would be able to order another drink of choice on the house. As it hadn't even been that long, we were surprised but extremely grateful for the upfront honesty and quick action on the part of the staff. After another 10 minutes or so, our first course was set on our table. My first course was a soup of the day, which turned out to be a delicious cheddar and broccoli soup. It had some carrot slivers as well, and was a perfectly well balanced soup. My next course, the seared scallops, were brought out quite quickly and were also quite delicious. Admittedly, this was my first time trying scallops so I can't truly review them one way or another, given I didn't know what to expect from them. My third course was the beef arugula salad and although it didn't smell as appetizing given the mixture of plates I had prior, it was incredibly delicious. The meat was cooked perfectly and was just as tender and juicy as I had hoped. My fourth course, the red wine braised short rib served with fondant potatoes and roasted seasonal vegetables, was positively to die for. I, admittedly, was stuffed at this point and already knew I'd have leftovers, but I wanted to finish every bite if I was able as it truly was perfection. Finally, for my fifth course, I was given the cheesecake which was rich, creamy and delicious. It was just the right size of slice and finished off the meal wonderfully. I could not recommend this place more given the service, friendliness, ambiance, and quality of the dishes. This restaurant is incredibly welcoming, with something for everyone from morning to night. I started visiting On & Off after a friend recommended it. I had no idea we have such a gem in our neighborhood! The food has been excellent every single time. I tried the French toast, various benedicts, and the set menu with the shakshuka entrée. Excellent every time. Coffee and lemonades are delicious, too. Service is always good. The ambiance is lovely, too, with a view to the mountains if you're lucky enough to get a good table and the weather behaves. Entering the establishment you are welcomed to a very large open space that is well lit and very nicely decorated. We had a reservation and were seated as soon as our table was cleaned and ready which was about 5 min after we arrived. The waitress was friendly and polite, she gave us the menus and let us have some time before asking for our beverages. I ordered a flat white and wifey ordered some tea. Our drinks came fairly quickly and Once we were ready to order we did. I ordered the on&off breakfast with sunny side eggs, sour dough toast, and hash browns(there is a choice of 3 different potato cooking methods) wife originally ordered the tornado omurice with fried chicken. After the waitress checked if we had any allergies(wife is allergic to beef) we were informed the omurice demiglace was made with beef. So wifey decided to see if she could get a Benny but instead of english muffin if she could sub French toast and pay whatever difference it may be. Unfortunately the kitchen said they were unable to do that so wifey ordered a fried chicken croffle. The food came out and was very nicely plated. But one hiccup is i think the waitress didn't cancel the omurice? As they brought one out minus the demiglace but we had said a didn't want that hence why we ordered the croffle instead. The first thing I took a bite of from my plate was the sour dough toast. It definitely was toasty... melba toasty. If you like super crispy and cracker like this toast is for you! I personally like a little bit of crisp and chew from my sourdough. The jam and butter they serve with the toast was very nice. Soft spreadable butter and nice fruity jam that tasted better than those packets you usually get. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the sausage juicy, bacon crispy. Salad served with the breakfast was lightly dressed and decent. The hash browns were in a patty shape and very crispy ALL the way through. Again if your a crispy lover this is good for you. I prefer a bit of fluffy texture in between the crispyness. Wife's croffle and fried chicken was decent. Maybe slightly chewy according to her words. I thought it was ok but nothing to rave about. The rest of her plate seemed to be cooked well enough. Wifey asked for more hot water for her tea pot and a male staff (not our original waitress) came to fill it up. Later on before the end of our meal wifey went to the restroom and asked me to get her more hot water. I managed to get our waitress and asked for more h.water, which she obliged.. but she poured hot water into my wife mug instead of the pot? Maybe a misunderstanding? I dunno. Over all the decor and ambiance of the establishment is very nice. Service was average to below average for our visit anyways. The food, beautiful but it wasn't up to my liking. The establishment has a sophisticated and French-style design that I rarely see in a restaurant. The place was playing piano jazz over the speakers for relaxing ambiance rather than generic radio music we hear too often. I ordered the On & Off Breakfast Plate with the Butterfly Mango mocktail. The drink was very flavourful and vibrant in tanginess. The entrée was good overall. The toast was decent for white bread while the salad was good with the vinaigrette dressing having subtle flavours. The bacon was good if not a little dry. The sausages were succulent and tasty. The potatoes were pretty good. The scrambled eggs I ordered were fantastic since they were seasoned with salt and pepper and without milk too. The staff were great and so was their service when I ate there. My only real complaint is that this restaurant is located in the obscured part of Coquitlam where I had to circle around in order to avoid taking the Golden Ear Bridge. Met up for dinner with a lovely group of foodies from Lower Mainland Eats at On & Off Kitchen and Bar. Featured here: Mussels Mariniere Duck Fat Roasted Fingerling Potatoes Hokkaido Scallop & Crab Risotto BC Mushroom Rigatoni Charcoal Grilled Sablefish Roasted Racks of Lamb Churros with Chocolate Dip One of the first things we all noticed even before we ordered any food was the ambiance. The noise level was quite moderate which made for a relaxing setting where we could all easily converse with each other. I always find myself feeling mentally fatigued when I'm in a loud restaurant where I have to struggle to hear what people are saying to me. Fingerling Potatoes were golden and crisp. Accompanied by a stunning mushroom tempura, the mussels were plump and flavorful. Several people had ordered the Roasted Racks of Lamb and all found it to be wonderfully tender and juicy. Hokkaido Scallop & Crab Risotto sounded so amazing that I just might order it for myself if I find myself at this restaurant again. There was a lobster butter in the risotto that perfectly complemented the scallop and crab flavors. Sablefish was melt in your mouth tender. Mushroom Rigatoni had a wonderfully creamy sauce and was very much enhanced by the crunch of the pangrattato (bread crumbs). The one dish that really fell short of our expectations was the dessert. On the evening that we went On & Off Kitchen and Bar was serving churros as their daily dessert. Two people at our table were served churros with ice cream. After that we were informed that they had run out of ice cream but could do a chocolate dip as a substitute for the ice cream. We accepted this substitution. When we bit into the churros, they didn't taste very fresh, and the chocolate sauce tasted more like coffee than chocolate.  Other than the dessert, this was a very pleasant meal overall. I would have never known of this place on my own as it's tucked away in a remote area of Coquitlam, but am ever so glad that I know of this place now. Wow this place is so beautiful and modern. Mushroom pasta Iced Hojicha Oat Latte French toast I was not a fan of the mushroom pasta. Not a lot of mushroom flavor that I was expecting which was kind of disappointing because mushrooms can be so fragrant. They had a lot of potential with the variety of mushrooms they had here. It was plated beautifully and the breadcrumb for texture was a nice choice. I would recommend mixing the breadcrumb first though. Perhaps it was just me but I kind of choked on the bread crumbs lol. The french toast was fresh and sweet. The outside of the bread cubes were covered in melted sugar which added an extra sweetness. I wouldn't recommend for someone who doesn't have a sweet tooth. The portion was large with a lot of fresh fruits on top. The ice cream scoop also paired well with the bread. The iced hojicha latte did not taste like hojicha. However, it was probably hard to incorporate in the drink because I find that the flavour of oatmilk often overpowers anything you mix it with. I think if I had asked for real milk substitute it would have been better. Overall, the aesthetic and atmosphere is lovely and the space is decorated really nicely. Had the best experience here this morning! I finally had the opportunity to visit this new brunch spot in Coquitlam. I tried a few weeks ago around noon and they were super busy so I decided to go elsewhere. This time I went around 9:30AM and there were tons of open spots. Like others have mentioned, the space is definitely not optimized to maximize seating but as a result, everything feels less cluttered and very fancy. The space is so beautiful and I love the giant mirror behind the bar area that really opens up the space even more. There's so much natural light and they even have a patio with a nice view! All their utensils, cups, and plates were really nice and definitely didn't feel cheap. I love this kind of fancy brunch experience and I'm so happy it's in Coquitlam. We had an amazing server that was super attentive and checked up on us through out the meal. It didn't feel excessive at all but more like he cared about our experience. Even at the end, after paying, he made sure to ask about our overall experience. He was very nice and helpful. The food itself was great as well! I ordered the avo-cotta toast and it was a lot more abundant than I thought. I also saw the very berry pancakes other people were having and they were so cute! I am so excited to have a new breakfast / brunch spot on the tri cities (we defs don't have enough!). The aesthetics and interior are absolutely stunning! If it's a nice day - the patio has an amazing view. The Lavender lattes my friends and i got were delish! Pretty impressed with the coffee :) Now for the food, it was a 6/10 i'd say. I order the fried chicken benny. It lacked flavour and had SO much spinach i had to spit some out. I did let the server know that it had way too much. Next time, i'd try something else! Service was very friendly! but also quite slow - i went in the first few weeks so i'm sure it's better now that they've been open for a while. I managed to book reservations for brunch over the weekend. Menus and water were dropped off shortly after being seated. I ordered the Kale Pesto and Grilled Cheese Sandwich with tomato soup. My husband ordered the Prawn Rosé Spaghetti. Our kid ordered the classic Chicken Tenders option. We also ordered some drinks - the matcha lemonade, Shirley pine-temple, and pineapple juice. finally went around the hype and tested this VERY cute (and very me) brunch place with my parents. i absolutely love the aesthetic and the decor of the place. the floor plan does not allow for a lot of seats but it adds to the clean, minimalist design that the restaurant has. the cutlery and tableware are all of high quality - i was basically wowed the minute i walked in and sat down. there is a waitlist system so be sure to check in right away when you arrive. currently at the soft opening stage so things are a bit chaotic - i hope that once they obtain their liquor license and go thru their grand opening, resos will be available. that goes the same with service - while it was attentive, there wasn't enough servers to take orders and food service was also on the slow side. i'm chalking it all up to the restaurant being softly opened - something to keep in mind and to work on. due to the fact that there's no liquor, i was unable to get to get my usual mimosa. parents both had the american breakfast plate - your usual all around breakfast. parents loved the eggs and sausage. the bacon is not your usual crispy type; it's the softer kind and sweet - the bacon was def laced with maple syrup as it was being cooked. the toast was soft, and butter/jam was provided. i had the eggs royale benedict - the poached egg was done perfectly! the smoked salmon was juicy and smoky, the hollandise was not overly salty, and the avocado and spinach was a very nice touch. i also had the hazelnut caramel financier - the roasted flavour of hazelnut was the main flavour profile of the financier. the caramel was there but not too much - im a big fan of caramel and enjoyed it thoroughly. there were other dishes that i wanted to try - cheese tart tower, the french toast and pasta. definitely going to come back once they have dinner service! read more

It was a new spot pop up in the community. Checked Yelp and wanted to give it a try. The parking was a bit chaotic so make sure you give yourself some time to park the car. When you enter the restaurant the service I find it was amazing 5/5. Servers were friendly and amazing. The atmosphere is amazing to take your love one for a quick brunch. It is not a romantic candle light setting. It is more for a coffee and chat type of environment. Let's go straight to food. I honestly was a little disappointed on the food. I ordered seafood pasta and my wife order egg Benedict. Seafood pasta : 3-3.5/5 - I personally didn't enjoy the olive that was in my pasta. It didn't really blend well. When I bite into the olive and the pasta I find it super salty. Tomato sauce and the olive overpowering the seafood taste. I also feel they should simmer the sauce a bit more because it was too soupy. I thought I was drinking tomato soup. Spaghetti didn't taste like it was freshly made but it was a little bit over cooked. Egg Benedict 2.5-3/5- the egg was cook perfectly but I feel they should reconsider using different bread. The texture of the bread wasn't working well with their hollandaise sauce and their perfectly poach egg. The presentation of the food is so appealing and appetizing. When we tried to get her attention for the food order, multiple times the young person turned the other way and walked off, the first time it happened may have been a one off. However a pattern did emerge, even grabbing the bill was challenging. At this point I understood my presence there was more of an annoyance to her, I couldn't wait to leave. Jerusalem skillet tasted ok first few bites, then a weird taste appeared midway, not sure if the eggs combined with the lukewarm sauce produced it. Ordered more slices of sourdough -came halfway toasted lol. So strange. I'm turned OFF overall, and this appetite won't be coming back ON for this business. I went for dinner with my gal on Feb 4 2024. This place is definitely up-market, but if you are dinning out for an occasion this is it! Excellent service, the food well we had the Duck and the seafood Risotto as well as the Brie board as an appetizer. All were well above average. We started with cocktails one of which was stunning. It was the Pina Lychee a must try! Overall I think this place is well worth the price. For our entire meal drinks and a bottle of wine ran 175.00$ considering alternatives The On and Off is superior. Okay a couple of cons, The interior is not cozy. The tables are arranged a bit oddly and I would not sit in the middle of the place. The wine list and the main entrees needs to be expanded slightly. There are plenty of nice reds and whites in hat could easily be added. Entrees, I feel could use a few more options. I'll be going back. read more

Finally had the chance to try on and off in Coquitlam. 100% recommend reservations cause they are super busy and can get packed quickly. its super cute very open concept, and the aesthetics overall was super nice. Their menu has quite the variety as well ranging from pastas, brunch plates, croffles, and a huge drink menu as well. * Apple Brie Croissant Sandwich ($19) ~ this was so bomb and huge. The croissant itself was big, flakey and buttery and crunchy. The apple was super crisp and sweet and paired well with the brie and prosciutto. The Bacon jam was delicious as well and was a good contrast with the arugula. It came paired with a side salad. The dressing was ok, I wish it came on the side cause it was a bit overpowering. 7/10. * Vietnamese latte ($5.50) ~ delicious, it was perfectly sweet and yummy. I got it hot but you can also get it iced. Good drink to have with the rich brie sandwich. 9/10. * Also got the eggs royale benny ($21) and brewed coffee ($3.50). Overall this place is cute and perfect aesthetics for brunch and photos. The lighting here is surreal. Decent brunch place but not on the top of my list. Portion wise it's a bit smaller and the price is on the pricier side. Nice ambience but can get quite noisy so if you were looking for a quiet relaxing brunch, this isn't it. They have drinks (no alcohol which as brunch is a bummer), pastries, sandwiches, Benedict's, pasta, etc. Staffs are very friendly but as we sat in the end of the corner close to the bathroom, it does get a bit difficult when you need to get the attention of a staff. Parking lot right outside but usually packed so best to park on the streets and walk up or bus. A beautiful space, the kind of place you'd expect downtown not in Coquitlam. Really well done. The menu has changed a lot over the past few months, my wife has been several times as it's quite of a trending spot especially if you're Korean since it's Korean run. But main reason is the food - overall I'd say it's good, a bit hit and miss while they seem to be fine tuning. My first visit I had a risotto with strip steak and it was very good, but that's gone now. Coffee refills are free and pastries are good. It was a lazy Sunday where we slid out of bed not wanting to cook at all and decided to try out the newly opened On and Off Kitchen and Bar. They are currently still on their soft opening which is a very considerate idea as they work through their kinks and ask customers for feedback before their grand opening. During noon this Sunday the wait was considerably long of about an hour for a table of 2 people in my visit, but we were definitely more forgiving as we understand it is still their soft opening. Once you get a table the food and ordering is relatively quick and friendly. I read plenty who tried and recommended the Fig & Brie Cheese Toast and decided to try it as well! They are generous on their toppings and it was very fresh and tasty, but only downside was the toast - they may have over toasted it or it may have been the type of bread but it was very hard that my knife was having trouble cutting through it. Eggs Royale Benedict ended up being our top choice here! We really enjoyed the creamy Hollandaise sauce and the addition of the cooked spinach and avocado in it was a bonus! read more

Wait staff took forever to take our order, couldn't remember who ordered what at our table of 4 and then couldn't be found. We had to walk up to the bar to ask for water and order our wine. Dropped by this brunch spot on a Sunday with a few friends. The location is pretty hidden in a plaza in Coquitlam and it's a pretty far drive up the mountain. They don't take reservations and do get busy so would recommend going early to put your name down if you're going on a weekend. My friends and I waited ~30 min for a table for four. The interior is beautiful and there's a really nice view if you get a table on the patio on a nice day. When we sat down, I noticed the fork on the table was not cleaned well but the waitress was quick to give me another one. It wasn't a big problem for me. I ordered the mushroom pesto toast and a lavender latte with oat milk. The latte was delicious and I could taste the lavender kick to it. However, after ordering, the food took an unacceptable time to come. My friends and I waited just about an hour for the food... after three of our dishes arrived, we were waiting for the last dish to come before digging in. That took another ten minutes or so. By the time we all had our food, my dish was cold and the crust of my toast was hard. I believe the food would be really delicious if it hadn't been cold and if it hadn't taken 1 hour. The waitress acknowledged that she knew we waited a long time but just said the kitchen was receiving a lot of orders. I understand if they were understaffed in the kitchen but I watched the tables near us with people come and go while waiting for our food. At the end, I was quite disappointed and hoped they would take a small percentage off our bills, but they didn't do anything to make up for the long wait and my experience there ended on a poor note. read more

REVIEW BASED ON NEW MANAGEMENT AS OF JULY 3, 2024. We used to love coming to on and off, consistent delicious food that was just a cut above regular brunch. However, after their new management takeover as of July 3, they have gone way downhill. The staff barely look like they know what they're doing. I saw them come out with food and take it to multiple tables incorrectly only to bring it back to the kitchen. The food also wasn't coming out to tables all at once, timing was poor. Everything was completely disorganized, tables are dirty and worst of all, the quality of food is worse. It used to be a great spot with quality ingredients and something better than your average brunch spot, my fave was the apple brie croissant which they still carry but the flavours have changed, even the side salad was underwhelming. Matcha latte lacked matcha and tasted diluted. Sadly with the change in management we will not be coming back. read more

Great room, nice ambiance. The scallop risotto was really delicious as was the duck confit. Couldn't decide which one was better...everyone bite of each changed my mind. Will come back for sablefish and flank steak. Highly recommend this restaurant. If we were being picky, the service was a little slow. But being really picky as it was not bad. read more

Because this restaurant is still in it's soft opening phase I've given it a 4 star (otherwise it would have gotten a 3 star). We were told by front of house that we would be seated in 15 to 20 minutes. An hour later we were finally seated (and that's after numerous enquires). We later see that they kept switching staff around to handle front of house and that might have caused confusion and delay because we get notified about our table being ready after we were already seated! The menu is very comprehensive for brunch and lunch as well as bakery goods. The quality of food is very good and our server was excellent! She was attentive and kept our beverages refilled. Everyone was polite. Their expediting needs work though. We noticed a lot of tables got served their food inconsistently. Usually a table will get their food at the same time. Ours was a little off but other tables were really off. The table next to us got their food way apart...the one person finished her food before the other person even got theirs and they had to ask if the food was forgotten. So one person was watching the other eat the whole time we were there. I give this review in the hopes that management will be encouraged by the input and work on these particular issues. It's refreshing to see a new restaurant in this spot and I hope that they will continue to be a success especially once they iron out the issues of front of house and expediting. read more

Just had the most fantastic meal at On & Off restaurant in Coquitlam. My wife had the Duck Confiet and I had the the Sable Fish. I have to say this is the best Sable Fish I have ever had. The Duck was also exceptional. Service was impeccable. I highly recommend that you eat here. read more
