We stopped at On the Waterfront after a fun day on Block Island. We were immediately escorted to a table that overlooked the water, without asking! The views were very nice and the restaurant was quite spacious. Our server had a great personality and was very attentive and friendly. He immediately brought us bread, which was heavenly very soft and delicious. I ordered the salmon with rice and green beans. My son had the fish. Both dinners were very generous portions very well cooked. I would return to this place in a minute!

This is the clam chowder it has a lot of potatoes. My husband says it's very yummy and it doesn't taste like A canned chowder.

UPDATE: We've been to the Waterfront many times in the past year. They no longer have the $10.00 specials unfortunately. The service is still excellent and the food is still pretty good. I particularly love the fisherman's platter. It's baked. The fish and seafood is so fresh. My husband almost always gets the spaghetti and meatballs. It is so delicious!! If you do there and sit outside the sunny weather is great and the sunset is perfect!

Came here on a Saturday night around 7:30 pm. Was able to get a street parking spot a little bit down the road. Three of us were able to be seated immediately on the porch area. It was nice and on the water. It was a little loud though so it was hard to talk to one another. I ordered the fish tacos and really enjoyed them. I wish there was a little more food but the prices reflect the view of the water. Tacos were yummy but portion a little small. The tacos were $16. My mom got the salmon for $30 and it was very tasty. Overall a nice meal on the water.

The setting by the water, the porch with live music, had beautiful decor. The servers were very friendly and helpful. The FOOD was outstanding. We had a very plentiful and reasonably priced seafood tower with all kinds of yummy shellfish. Then my husband had a dry aged pork chop that was insanely tender. I had a hot buttered lobster roll which was Loaded with fresh meat. We will be back!!

After a really disappointing breakfast in Mystic, my mom and I were hungry for some lunch. I did some googling and found this spot which looked like a good choice. We love having a water view and the large windows provided that. The inside was clean and modern and felt higher end. Our server, Olivia, was so friendly but professional. I decided to have the clam chowder and tuna tartare. I could have used a touch more soy for the tuna but both items were delicious. We also really liked the complimentary bread. It was perfect to dip into my chowder. I also appreciated that the tortilla chips are made in house. My mom's salad was large, beautiful, and very tasty. All the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. We were both glad that we discovered this spot. The menu had several other choices we'd both like to try -- baked scallops, spaghetti and meatballs, fish and chips, chicken Francese, and rigatoni vodka all sounded good. So there's a range of options besides just seafood which is perfect for us.

Very pretty restaurant, and the food is delicious. The view of the boats and of the river is pretty no matter the weather.

Came for a birthday dinner so we had reservations. Saturday at 6pm wasn't too busy so that was nice. Had a beautiful view by the window of the boats so that's always a plus. Staff was extremely nice and our waiter was great. Food was a hit and miss. Calamari was soggy with how much marinara sauce was over it. The tuna crostini seemed to be a big hit so that's good. The clams special was okay, nothing special, the sauce was good. The Mediterranean plate was enjoyed. Chicken parm was fine, chicken was very thin so not much flavor. Baked scallops were a miss, very mushy and overcooked and swimming in white wine / lemon combo whatever it is. The baked cracker topping was sliding off the scallop into the juice so that was just a bummer. Green beans were green beans and the rice tasted like ready rice, good but not what I was expecting. For $38 it was kind of a let down for mushy scallops. The tuna and pork were big hits and were great. Pistachio cake was the best cake we have all had in a while. Overall, a great dining experience but some of the food was meh. Would go back and try again! Everyone's taste buds are different so go for yourself and give it a try!

Great seafood restaurant located close to the Mystic Aquarium, along the waterfront, accounting for a day well spent in Southern CT. We came here for a bite to eat around 3PM and were seated right away. We got a table facing the waterfront which was great, even though it was a rainy day the view was still stunning. The service is here is incredible, which definitely bumps up my rating. The waiters are diligent, helping multiple of the same tables at once. Additionally, we got a complimentary golf cart ride from the parking lot hill to the restaurant, which was incredibly kind. The driver also took us back up in the pouring rain, which was so incredibly kind but we felt so bad! They are too kind! I'm not a huge seafood person, so I got a cheeseburger and it was pretty alright! Definitely middle of the road-- the bun was also a tiny bit burnt but that was okay. Veggie toppings alright, but the fries were pretty tasty. My grandparents both ordered French onion soups, and I tried some, it had a very sweet taste from the caramelized onions and was very good. They enjoyed their fish n chips (unpictured as we dug right in!).

We were seated at a lovely table for two overlooking Main Street - watching people stroll by from that elevated perch behind glass felt almost cinematic. The real star of the show was the food, which is ultimately what you're there for, and it delivered. The menu offers plenty of options without being overwhelming. I started with the Crispy Pig's Head as an appetizer - a bold choice that turned out to be outstanding. For my entrée, the bucatini with seacoast mushrooms, sherry, parmesan, mushroom cream, and fine herbs was perfectly cooked, and carried a subtle but deeply flavorful sauce. And the housemade sourdough with poblano honey butter? Absolutely outstanding. To be fair, our server took a little time to warm up but found their footing and gave us everything we needed. Parking in Mystic on a busy weekend night can also be a challenge and expensive. Neither is reason enough to skip this one. Ship Wright's Daughter is exactly the kind of restaurant Mystic deserves. So, since the Old Saybrook location closed, we set our sights on visiting the Niantic location, looking forward to what we missed so much. Sadly, this was one of the worst experiences we have had! Our order consisted of a kid's hot dog platter, an adult hot dog, side of onion rings, 2 small coleslaws and a side of clam strips. Let's begin with the hot dogs...Both the kids and adult hot dogs were the same size in different buns. The adult in a foot long bun and the kids in a regular bun. Again, same size hot dog inside. Moving on to the onion rings...for $7.00, I counted 19 shoestring onion rings. Not a nice pile, but flatly 19 and shoestring ones are incredibly deliciously thin. The kids platter arrived with just the hot dog on it. No fries. When I went back, I was told it did not come with fries. I disagreed and after some time, curly fries were placed next to the hot dog. I asked about regular fries and I was told that they did not carry regular ones. The nice boy behind this all stated that they did and it was corrected. Hot dog was now ice cold. My side of clam strips for $14 consisted of maybe a cup of clams. Sad portion! We ate what we could shaking our heads in disappointment. So sad our expectations were dashed! When we left, it was decided that a short walk (and I mean short because my mother can't balance for long) might be nice in order to forget the fiasco at the restaurant. As soon as we stepped away from the car, we were chased by their parking guard who said that we could no longer park there if we left the car. I explained that we had just spent almost $70 in their establishment and would be taking a short walk. She continued to chase us. We kept walking. Our walk took approximately 7 minutes. Upon our return, the man parked next to us entered his car with 2 bags and coffees from Sift Bakery. Obviously NOT a Skippers customer, yet he was not chased! So, sadly, we will NEVER again be visiting Skippers in Niantic. Johnny Ad's is meh, but this was way worse. I hope that they can fix things so that others can still enjoy eating there.

I have struggled with whether to write this review because this has become one of our favorite…read morelocal restaurants over the last year. In fact, one of the reasons we kept coming back was because this was one of the very few local restaurants that I believed truly understood celiac disease and took gluten-free dining seriously. However, as someone with celiac disease, I feel a responsibility to share my experience because what I have encountered goes far beyond a one-time mistake. Several months ago, we ordered takeout and I tested three separate items that were represented as gluten-free: tacos, a wedge salad, and a pop tart dessert. Most was already naturally gluten free. All three tested positive for gluten. These tests are not cheap, costing approximately $12 each, so this was not something I did lightly. I contacted the restaurant and spoke directly with the head chef. She was professional, understanding, and seemed genuinely concerned. She thanked me for bringing it to her attention and even mentioned that she planned to order a test herself because she could not understand how those items would contain gluten. Because of that conversation, I chose not to leave a review. I genuinely believed the issue would be investigated and corrected, and I wanted to give the restaurant the opportunity to make things right. Unfortunately, a later visit resulted in a positive gluten test on the smoked fish appetizer. Most recently, I returned again and tested several items. The calamari tested negative, but my gluten-free tacos once again tested positive for gluten. At this point, I have simply been glutened one too many times by a restaurant that I genuinely wanted to trust. What makes this especially difficult is that this restaurant presents itself as understanding celiac disease. I was told that members of the restaurant's family, including a daughter, have celiac disease. Hearing that gave me confidence that gluten-free orders would be taken seriously and that proper precautions would be in place. That is what makes these repeated positive gluten tests so confusing and disappointing. When a restaurant claims to understand celiac disease, I expect more than simply offering gluten-free menu items. I expect systems that actually prevent gluten contamination. After multiple positive gluten tests across multiple visits and after bringing my concerns directly to management months ago, it is difficult for me to reconcile those claims with my actual experiences. During my most recent visit, the waitress was kind and helpful, and I appreciate the way she handled the situation. However, I was told that a manager would come speak with me, and no manager ever did. My tacos were removed because they tested positive for gluten, yet I was still charged for them after deciding to take them home (for my non celiac hubby) rather than have them thrown away. In the end, I received a discount, but only after spending nearly $50 on gluten tests during that visit alone. As I write this, I am sitting here sad, frustrated, and in pain, knowing exactly what the next couple of weeks are likely going to look like for me. People often do not see what happens after someone with celiac disease is exposed to gluten. We do not go into anaphylaxis in the restaurant. We go home and suffer through the consequences alone. The symptoms may not be immediately visible to others, but the physical toll is very real. Every restaurant can make a mistake. My concern is not a single mistake. My concern is a repeated pattern over multiple visits, over several months, after the issue was brought directly to the restaurant's attention. I truly wanted to continue supporting this restaurant. I truly wanted to be able to recommend it to others in the celiac community. Unfortunately, after repeated positive gluten tests, repeated gluten exposures, and no evidence that the underlying problem has been corrected, I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to anyone with celiac disease or anyone who requires a truly gluten-free meal for medical reasons.
