UPDATE: We've been to the Waterfront many times in the past year. They no longer have the $10.00 specials unfortunately. The service is still excellent and the food is still pretty good. I particularly love the fisherman's platter. It's baked. The fish and seafood is so fresh. My husband almost always gets the spaghetti and meatballs. It is so delicious!! Came here on a Saturday night around 7:30 pm. Was able to get a street parking spot a little bit down the road. Three of us were able to be seated immediately on the porch area. It was nice and on the water. It was a little loud though so it was hard to talk to one another. I ordered the fish tacos and really enjoyed them. I wish there was a little more food but the prices reflect the view of the water. Tacos were yummy but portion a little small. The tacos were $16. My mom got the salmon for $30 and it was very tasty. We love having a water view and the large windows provided that. The inside was clean and modern and felt higher end. Our server, Olivia, was so friendly but professional. I decided to have the clam chowder and tuna tartare. I could have used a touch more soy for the tuna but both items were delicious. We also really liked the complimentary bread. It was perfect to dip into my chowder. I also appreciated that the tortilla chips are made in house. My mom's salad was large, beautiful, and very tasty. All the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. We were both glad that we discovered this spot. The menu had several other choices we'd both like to try -- baked scallops, spaghetti and meatballs, fish and chips, chicken Francese, and rigatoni vodka all sounded good. They didn't have a happy hour when I went but we got great views of the marina and boats and could sit "outside" which was covered and heated. I enjoyed my Empress 75 martini which was basically a purple French 75. It was really good. The lychee mojito wasn't as good and tasted more like soda water but the lychee that came with the drink was good. Oysters were about $4 each but they were really good and not briny at all. It was windy out so we opted to to sit not right next to the window but the view was still great and the heaters were cozy. The crab cake appetizer comes with two cakes. A little spicy and a lot delicious! We had the fish tacos and the pistachio crusted salmon. Both were really fresh, and nicely cooked. Side note: we tried to make reservations by clicking the link on Yelp and none were available but when we called to inquire they were happy to accommodate us. Came for a birthday dinner so we had reservations. Saturday at 6pm wasn't too busy so that was nice. Had a beautiful view by the window of the boats so that's always a plus. Staff was extremely nice and our waiter was great. Food was a hit and miss. Calamari was soggy with how much marinara sauce was over it. The tuna crostini seemed to be a big hit so that's good. The clams special was okay, nothing special, the sauce was good. The Mediterranean plate was enjoyed. Chicken parm was fine, chicken was very thin so not much flavor. Baked scallops were a miss, very mushy and overcooked and swimming in white wine / lemon combo whatever it is. The baked cracker topping was sliding off the scallop into the juice so that was just a bummer. Green beans were green beans and the rice tasted like ready rice, good but not what I was expecting. For $38 it was kind of a let down for mushy scallops. The tuna and pork were big hits and were great. Pistachio cake was the best cake we have all had in a while. Overall, a great dining experience but some of the food was meh. Would go back and try again! Everyone's taste buds are different so go for yourself and give it a try! read more

When I walked in and said we had a party of five, the host said, "Do you have a reservation?" My heart sank, but then he said, "We have a table for you" Whew! The entire wait staff is great! Great seafood restaurant located close to the Mystic Aquarium, along the waterfront, accounting for a day well spent in Southern CT. We came here for a bite to eat around 3PM and were seated right away. We got a table facing the waterfront which was great, even though it was a rainy day the view was still stunning. The service is here is incredible, which definitely bumps up my rating. The waiters are diligent, helping multiple of the same tables at once. Additionally, we got a complimentary golf cart ride from the parking lot hill to the restaurant, which was incredibly kind. The driver also took us back up in the pouring rain, which was so incredibly kind but we felt so bad! They are too kind! I'm not a huge seafood person, so I got a cheeseburger and it was pretty alright! Definitely middle of the road-- the bun was also a tiny bit burnt but that was okay. Veggie toppings alright, but the fries were pretty tasty. My grandparents both ordered French onion soups, and I tried some, it had a very sweet taste from the caramelized onions and was very good. I was recently informed if I love seafood and Italian and I haven't been to on the Waterford, then I'm missing out. I don't know how I've missed out on such a great spot. I've visited twice now, once in the summer and once more recently. Both times for apps and drinks only, and plan to return for a full course meal. The service at the bar was right up my alley, and full of conversation! We've had just about every app on the menu with the calamari being my fav but an honorable mention goes to the Eggplant Rollatini. I am looking forward to trying the bacon bourbon tuna, that seems to be pretty consistent to the menu. As far as the ambiance it's a nice waterfront location near eastern point beach. What a nice relaxing vibe, perfect for a Sunday lunch/early dinner. I have been to On the Waterfront many times over the years and have brought family and friends. I recently took my out of state family there after a Lighthouse Tour out of New London a few weeks ago. A few in our party have dietary restrictions due to allergies. It was a very painful process trying to order dinner. My sister in law cannot have any dairy products. The server asked what she wanted and said she would check with the kitchen. Each time the answer was they couldn't make it. In frustration, I asked what could they do. She said she would rather my SIL choose what she wanted. It was literally 7-8 trips back and forth, each time being disappointed. She finally settled on crab cakes which she said were good, large portion, but at that point we were all pretty frustrated. I have celiac. There was so little on the menu that I could have. Their risotto is not "real" risotto, they couldn't modify most of the fish dishes. I finally settled on the two filet mignon with grilled shrimp without the sauce as they could not do that GF. The filets were on the thin side. One was medium rare as ordered, the other medium well. Most people would prefer one thicker cut. They put no seasoning on the filet to compensate for removing the sauce and the shrimp were dry and over cooked. My husband and brother ordered the seafood fra diablo. It wasn't spicy not a lot of flavor. There was a decent amount of seafood. They both said it was fine, not fabulous. My daughter had the lobster bisque and said it was excellent. There were some good size chunks of lobster. She also enjoyed her fish tacos. We had a lovely view of the water, and the place was not super crowded, but our experience was very disappointing. Olivia M. was our waitress, and she was great--very attentive (she noticed I needed a spoon to stir my drink before I even asked!) and genuinely friendly and conversational throughout our meal. The food was delicious from start to finish. We started with the calamari appetizer and ended with the pistachio cake with Bavarian cream and the Nutella churros, both of which were incredible. The strawberry daiquiris were also a hit with the group. The staff was accommodating even though we arrived a few minutes late, and the views made the whole experience even better. My husband daughter and are visiting from upstate New York. My husband had been to New London several times the past two years for work. He always talked about how good the food is at the Waterfront. It did not disappoint!!!! We are foodies! So we tried a couple appetizers (crab cakes, tuna crostini). Amazing apps! Crab cakes melted in your mouth. Tuna seasoned so well on a crisp wonton. My daughter had wings that were seasoned well and crisp. I had the steak medallions w/shrimp and mash. Hubby had tuna w/a bourbon sauce and risotto. Soooo tasty. My steak was juicy and tender, seasoned to perfection. The shrimp was the best shrimp I ever tasted. The mash with a hint of garlic so buttery and smooth. The crab cakes were very bready. The flavor ok but I've had better. The lobster roll lacked flavor even with so much of the melted butter poured over it. The shrimp were fried well, but lacked flavor the breading crispy. It seems they have house made tarter sauce that was very good not too sweet and had just enough tang.
