I always remember On the Y because of the limo parked out front, but never had a chance to check it out. I am on a dart team for my local dive bar and we just so happened to have a league game here so I finally got to check it out. It was a Wednesday around 7:30 and the dart league members were the only patrons inside the entire time. It's a typical dark vibe dive with 1 pool table, 4 dart boards, a stage for a band and a small back patio. They seem to host lots of local rock bands so if your looking for a lowkey spot to play pool or throw darts, weekends here probably won't be a good idea, especially since the dart boards are located where the "dance floor" is. They do not offer food, but the owner was cool about me bringing in some food. I ordered a corona and 2 Cokes and it was $12, which seemed a little steep especially since the soda was flat. Overall, not really my vibe based on the music they play but the owner was cool and we had a good time throwing darts and even played a few games of pool. read more

Came here to watch a coworker's band perform - it was my first time and probably last time coming here. I have nothing against dive bars but the beer here was $5 for a bud light and $7 for a shocktop. That's on top of the the $10 cover to get in. They did provide a ice cold glass for each beer on tap. There was only one bartender and he wasn't very efficient. I had my cash ready in hand and my order ready but he skipped over me to go to the tall white guy next to me. Rude! There's 2 pool tables available here, only $1 per game, darts, and jukebox. The set up for the live band was some what awkward, because if you want to sit up near the bar area, you can't actually see the band! In the downstairs area, there's not a lot of space nor seating. But you can get really close to the band which is a plus. read more

1 because I have to give at least 1 to write a review. But seriously NO STARS! Bar owner, Corey, is a POS! Hiting on me all night. Very disgusting. The moment I walked into the bar with MY HUSBAND and his band. Corey says " oh I like you...your cute!" My husbands band (Graybar Hotel) and the opening band (The Hailey Show) were booked to play on May 15th, for over a month. Corey the bar owner was completely unprepared for the two bands to play at his "venue" the bar. Corey, already drunk when we (Graybar Hotel) showed up at 6pm. The area where people would sit was covered with 4 TVs, hella wires lying everywhere, microphones, pictures and other stuff that hangs on the wall. Myself and the band helped to move it in Coreys office. Corey said he had a bartender showing up at 8pm, which never showed. Then to find out he was lying and never scheduled a bartender that night. There was no one to work the sound. So the band had to, good thing they know what their doing! The floor was hella sticky? Hasn't his bar been shut down because of covid? Why are my shoes sticking to the floor? There was bugs in the glasses. Half of the liquor was gone. Corey was so drunk and frazzled that he couldn't remember what he was doing or how to make drinks. Just an absolute SHIT SHOW!!! He had no door man. Our friend was kind enough to help as door man. Neither band was paid out! It was $10 cover. So instead of the bands showing up for their show and getting paid for being the CHOSEN ENTERTAINMENT of the night. We practically ran the show and the bar...cleaned up the bar( so OUR fans had a place to stand and sit!), had OUR friend/ fan be the doorman and take the cover charge, then he (same guy) went behind the bar to help Corey out! Our lead vocalist did all the sound, for both bands. I was consistently creeped out all night by Corey trying to "sweet talk me" Quote " Oh I won't touch you but you are just so pretty" All up in my face.. DISGUSTING! The last straw was when my husband and I were leaving the bar and Corey gets right between my husband and I says there's my pretty girl...and whispers into my ear "now you should come and work at my bar and make me some money. So I actually did like this bar. The bartender was friendly and made good drinks. The guy working the door had the cutest little dog I couldn't stop playing with. I went this past Saturday night to see a few bands play and will probably never go back here. There was a creepy drunk guy hitting on all the women in the club. I did everything I could to avoid him but he still found it necessary to follow and try to touch me several times. He even grabbed me outside when I went out for air and was playing with a dog. I was not talking to him and wanted nothing to do with him. At one point me and my boyfriend were standing together and this drunken idiot still came up to me. I was holding on to my boyfriend and that didn't even scare him off. Found out a short time later that night the drunk guy was the owner of the club. THE OWNER OF THE CLUB! On The Y boasts that they have "The Coldest Beer In Town!" The advertising is not misleading cuz the Newcastle was icy icy COLD COLD. The karaoke was HOT HOT. It's a great karaoke dive bar. The karaoke hostess was all dressed up in a pretty dress with matching shoes. Nice touch. I belted out a couple solo tunes and then sang a duet with my wife. Love Shack, baby! The crowd of regulars at On The Y were very friendly and attitude-free. The vibe inside was harmonious. The bar also has a small little patio area in the back if you need some fresh air. This qualifies as more of a neighborhood bar than an according-to-Hoyle "dive bar", but we chose it as a venue for the illustrious Sacramento Dive Bar Connoisseurs nonetheless. Thursday was karaoke night, and this bar has a unique topography... a sunken area with additional tables and whatnot to accommodate the karaoke "stage". This helps if you are in the elevated area near the actual bar, because it limits the noise (if only a tad). Definitely a well-thought out karaoke venue, since they have monitors for lyrics near the sunken stage and an additional one aimed at the bar area (always important for ridiculing the lyrics or realizing previously undiscovered pop song profundities). I haven't performed here yet, but I am tempted to return and blow them away with my hand-picked karaoke guilty pleasure of Hall & Oates. I'm considering branching out though and working in some 38 Special. Good lovin' gone bad... The regulars here are apparently from the surrounding neighborhood and do not mind telling you so. Seems like a very loyal crowd that also meshed well with our large group. Quite a friendly, unpretentious bunch. And draft beers were cheap... $2.75 a pop for domestics. I'll be back to On the Y. I came here for the first time on a Wednesday night after a long day of work. I was meeting up with my friend who I haven't seen in a few months, he's a regular here so I knew I was going to have a good time. I showed up at around 6:30 in the evening and was glad to see that it wasn't too busy. They have plenty of beer on tap, chilled whiskey and a ton of liquor options. I went with the Lost Coast Indica IPA and my friend stuck to his usual whiskey on ice. The tab was just $11 and we got our drinks in less than 2 minutes. There are plenty of activities to do here; pool, darts, beer pong, watch a sport show (UFC was playing this night). Music isn't loud and obnoxious like at other dive bars, it's nice that I could actually have a conversation with my friend and not have to yell. Bathrooms we're clean, the bar was clean, bartenders we're friendly and fun to talk to. I will definitely be returning to On the Y. read more

I usually never go to bars in the burbs...let alone dive bars... however, my girlfriend digs this place so i decided to check it out with her... I dig this bar... like fo serious the regulars seem to be non-asshats... i never really talked to anyone in any of the times i went to this bar...but i never got a "too cool for school vibe" so i dug the place... i was able to smoke there, which is always a bonus. they had a outside patio area which is always cool...and two pool tables. hella 80's hair metal posters...beers were cheap... one thing about this place gets me though... why is it every band i see there is horrible. lol it's like a requirement you have to be crappy to play here. ah well... thats just another bonus of the place... they support local bands.. good for them. all in all - i'd kick it there.... read more

This has to be the worst bar experience I've ever had. I came here because of the fact that it had a very good overall rating... seems that rating must of been created by the particular crowd it was catering to. Now I'm not going to jump the gun and say that this establishment is racist or anything like that... although it might not be the biggest leap. I will say without question that my multi-cultural group of friends did not feel welcome in the slightest. We came in ordered a few drinks while getting scowling looks from at least a quarter of the people there. I have noticed this place for years now. frequently passing it on my way to East Sac. I saw it as a "Biker Bar." Well, I was totally mislead. Came her for the first time last Sunday on 04/09/17 with my usual Sunday Brunch Crew. The inside was decorated to keep the eye entertained. A lot of intriguing pieces everywhere. Felt a little out of place when we entered, but the bar tender made us feel loved. Popped us hot fresh popcorn to pair well with our ice cold beers. I enjoyed taking the reins of the bar jukebox, the entire bar was feeling my playlist. Must of spent 15.00 that day on songs. I would definitely come back for a night scene. I've only been to On the Y one time, and I had quite the interesting (but positive) experience. I live super close to this little gem and often pass it when I go for walks for dinner over to Jacks or Chipotle....Mmmmmmm....wait what was this about? Oh yeah, On the Y! Anyways, we were walking back from dinner and my metal-head, Metallica fanatic boyfriend was distracted by the screams (singing?) coming from the bar. We walk up to check out the local cluster F of humans (band?) that were performing. Someone told us that the cover was like $8 or something so we said "Nah, we're cool we were just walking by and wanted to check it out." Out of nowhere some guy we'd never seen before said "they're with me, they're cool to come in." Awesome. We get inside and some different random guy actually bought both of us a beer. Extra Awesome. I don't remember much about the bar itself other than your typical dive. However, I will never forget the names of the two bands that played that evening: Anal Blast and Killgasm. This bar is the definition of a dive bar! It's tiny and dark and dingy and will most likely provide you with a fun night. I came here to see a concert with my boyfriend and friends and I was not disappointed however I was not impressed. I did like the outside area and this bar is within walking distance of my house so that is a huge saving grace for coming here in the future. Why didn't anybody tell me that the best dive bar in Sacramento is in my neighborhood? Well, it is! -and it's On the Y. The decor is reminiscent of an '80's teenage boy's bedroom with Motley Crue, Ozzy, scantily clad models, and other such posters covering every inch of the walls and ceiling. I know that makes it sound kind of lame, but it isn't. It's bad-ass. There are a couple of TVs, a karaoke set up, a patio for the smokers, pool tables, and the list goes on. Sometimes they have live music. The drinks are reasonably priced and tasty. The tasty part I attribute to the fact that the bartenders rock! The patrons are friendly, diverse, and sooooo unlike the crowds at any of the other bars in the neighborhood (you know, the ones all full of college kids trying to score with each other). If you like dive-y neighborhood bars and want the "coldest beer in town" (or even just a tasty mixed drink), maybe you like to show off your pipes and sing a little butt-rock (or Motown, whatever) and you haven't been to On the Y you're missing out. read more

This is a great place to grab a beer and a shot after work while listening to some bands or to karaoke. Even if you don't know anyone, the patrons tend to be very friendly and laid back. I've been here a hand full of times. The bartender has always been this slender lady who is on non-smiling basis with the world, as I only seen her smile once, Not a big deal or anything. The bar has karaoke running pretty frequently which is fun. People did a handful of Prince songs when I was there, which I enjoyed immensely. They got a pool table as well. I'll say more about this place in time. For now I'll say that I've popped in on Saturdays occasionally, and I've enjoyed each visit. In my opinion Nikara is a class act KJ. She makes sure everyone gets a chance to sing a few songs. The small crowd there is warm and not at all judgmental. This is a small but friendly place and even the security is welcoming. This rating is only for this morning or last night as some of us call this morning last night. On The Y was my main place to enjoy myself and have fun, that what I do at the age of seventy anyways to have fun, but there is one dark spot on the bar that seems to kill the fun and enjoyment, who works at the Y, but not last night. Someone who wanted to come by the bar he works at just to ruin the mood. Wasn't even on duties but was trying to have people removed because his tiny ego got bruised because someone asked him if he was working tonight and who was he. He also threatened to kick a seventy year old man for not what to listen to stupidity. If that person is at the Y I will not go back. The KC last night was Jesse, who is the best KC I experienced since I started the karaoke journey on July 6th of this year. I only go to the Y because of Jesse. No Jesse no go.
