First of all, the food served is exactly like the photos. I got the short rib bun burger and bulgogi gyoza. The burger (omg) had a balance of sweet and salty but also a little spicy. Halfway through I noticed something yellow, it was a pineapple! Usually I have mixed feelings about pineapple with foods like pizza. But this complimented so well. Now, the gyoza. Crispy and you can't go wrong with bulgogi. What I was surprised with was inside I think it was japchae! If you like Korean food like me, I was so excited to see this twist. And yes it was yummy. I seem to get lucky most times and get to meet the owners. That day I met them and they're so nice! I can tell they put a lot of thought into the menu, ingredients, decor, etc. The owners are Japanese and Korean. Hence KoJa! Even this detail was really impressive. I ended up going back because the owner told me that his wife (also owner) created Yang Nyum and it was really good and popular. So I got Yang Nyum, kamikaze fries, and taro boba. The portions were great. But most of all, he was right about Yang Nyum, delicious! I didn't realize the kamikaze fries had beef, so yummy but I definitely overate that day, lol. One other thing I really liked was you could order at the register or kiosk. This is a great way to avoid lines. Once you order they have a screen that shows your ETA (why do other restaurants not have this?). I did go during the day though. So, I can only imagine how amazing it looks at night. You order at the kiosk and take a number to be served at your table. we had the following: *Crispy Chicken Rice Bowl w/Fries- - Chicken was lightly breaded and the chicken was moist, fries were good not too greasy. 4 *Masubi- rice was not sticky and fell apart, spam could have been brown little more. 2 *Braised Pork Koja- creatively put together. I remember when Koja Kitchen was all the rage, before food trucks and fusion food became super popular. We came to this location on a Sunday night because there was a long wait at another restaurant. There were no customers, just one cook in the back with a kiosk in front to order. Normally, no customers would be a red flag but we ate there anyway because we knew the brand name, Koja. The food was okay but everyone in my party had an upset stomach the next few days. It started that evening, and our party represented three separate home. We really think it was the food. I eat here a couple of times a year and it's usually a 4-5 star experience. I love their crispy rice patties. However, last night was a disappointment. The top rice patty to my Original was completely overcooked. It was a hard chunk with no chewiness at all. Just hard over fried rice and was inedible. My partner ordered the Zen burger which is usually very good. Last night it had barely any sauce or flavor. She ended up having to add some salt to it. It's not super big but has nice outdoor seating .. it is a little weird if you need to use the restroom cause it's downstairs and down there it's like a bar/club but the worst part is we didn't use the bathroom, it smelt sooo bad and not clean. Delicious wings! The wings were so crispy, so flavorful so large and satiating I was obsessed (and I don't even normally like wings). We tried the korean buffalo sauce and the yang nyum sauce, the yang nyum were our favorite the sweet but spicy combo made them a winner. The wings were both crispy and incredibly juicy. Buffalo was on the spicy side and very very saucy! Great place for a quick in and out before the game. Two minor detractors were the kiosk you order at takes an incredibly long time, would be nice to have a second kiosk so the wait is shorter. Koja Kitchen is easy to find in the corner of 8th & K, but only has street parking due to its location. It has a restaurant up top, a bar in the basement, and they're both dressed in cool modern accents. The bar is definitely more colorful with it's soft blue tones, funky lighting, and anime playing on the TVs. I order some waffle cut kamikaze fries for $9.75 and watched anime while I waited. When they arrived, the fries arrived they were hot, and crispy. They were topped with minced Korean BBQ beef, red sauce, and Japanese mayo. They were supposed to come with sautéed onions, kimchi, and green onions, but I didn't see or taste them. My fries lacked the color, and some ingredients, of the ones pictured in the menu, so I wasn't completely satisfied. They were still good, but I'm only giving them 4 stars. The location is in such a convenient area from Golden 1 center and DOCO. Walking in, the place is basically 2 places in 1. Koja kitchen is the top part while it's a bar vibe downstairs late at night. Today I stopped by as my order at another restaurant nearby was an hour wait and I was hungry and ready to eat! There is a kiosk to order the full menu options. You can also order at the register if you don't like using a kiosk, the young lady was polite and helpful. Order arrived fast, food tasted ok. Kamikaze fries weren't as crispy as I like them, but super tasty as it is topped with bulgogi, Japanese mayo and a red sauce. The chicken wasn't great, serving was chopped up pieces in a thick pasty sauce. I was expecting chicken thigh or breast that is usually bbq'd and sliced. Easily felt like I was back in downtown LA eating at a Ktown spot because of how much the food reminded me of the flavors from back home. If you're in the area looking for good food, this is the spot. Ordered the waffle fries with the beef to share, two of the beef plate that comes with kimchi and rice, and a (boba) lemonade. This is a reliable, quick spot in Doco. They are pretty consistent with the quality and portions, and a great spot for takeout for lunch. This is not a typical Korean BBQ, as they have it already made and dunked in sauce (similar to what you'd find at a Chinese restaurant) vs Korean where the meat is plain and you add vegetables and sauces on your own. Located in a fairly busy part of downtown, it's quite easy to get to. If you're at Golden 1 Center for a Kings game, concert, event, or anything else, it's just across the street (from the practice facility side). Even with its location, this place felt more down-to-earth compared to the DOCO eateries. That is extremely subjective though. Anyhow, the food we ordered was solid. I got a rice bowl and Kamikaze fries, and I really liked both. I'm not in downtown that often, but I'd definitely put this on the list of places I'd be open to eating at if I were in the vicinity. One side of the restaurant is nearly entirely window, so you can even do some people watching as you chow down on your grub. If you do go at a busy time, there may not be enough spots for everyone to sit down. I will say that the tables would also benefit from more cleaning in between patrons; however, with the amount of traffic they receive, it's understandable that their small staff prioritizes the food first.
