I had a really frustrating experience trying to sell clothes at Once Upon A Child. I brought in a mix of gently used, high-quality items--some of them brand name and barely worn--and the offer I received was honestly disappointing. The biggest issue is how much they lowball you on items that clearly have higher value. It felt like there was no real consideration for condition, brand, or resale potential. On top of that, their selection process makes no sense. There's no transparency in how they decide what to take and what to pass on. Items that were in great condition were rejected, while others I expected them to skip were accepted. It just felt completely inconsistent and random. The employee that ring me out. When I was told only $30 for 78 items( which I believe they took more and just didn't put it on there) I question it. She then told me they give $1 for every bodysuit that they take, but they took 45 body suits. So, it didn't make any sense. Overall, the lack of clarity and the very low payouts make it hard to justify bringing items here. If you're expecting fair value for your clothes, you'll probably leave disappointed. read more

I absolutely love this store as a shopper. (I have never tried to sell my stuff here.) I have come here about every 2-3 weeks for over a year. I have found so many baby essentials, clothes, and toys. So much in fact it is rare if I buy anything new to my child. Sometimes when I go I feel like I hit the jackpot with amazing items for cheap. Other times I still find a few wonderful things. The workers are wonderful! They always seem happy to see me and bend over backwards to help me. Today one worker helped to take a part an entire playset and even helped me carry it out to my car (and this is not the first time a worker has helped me take bigger items to my car.) This is a bittersweet type of thing! It's nice to get a few bucks for things that I can't use again because my grand grew out of. When I came back, the price they offered was absurd to me! Most of the clothes still had tags and was never worn. For 17 items it was $20 and that included a pair of Jordans. I took it all back. When I asked about how the decide what to pay, they stated they put the item and brand in the computer and the computer gives them a price. From there, they give the customer one fourth of that price and the remaining 3/4 is what the item sells for and their profit. Such a rip off especially since we generally paid real money for it! One lady in there was selling them Dr Martens and they were in good condition. They were giving her like $5 for them and selling them for way more. That concept is crazy to me. I won't be back to sell them anything and cheat me like that! I would rather donate it to a shelter than sell anything to them! However, it is a nice way lace to shop. Good stuff for good prices. I would recommend you shop there but NOT sell anything there unless you just don't care and don't mind making pennies while they profit dollars for you gently used items. read more

I dropped off so many many item's yesterday afternoon, that included bags and totes. They explained they were running behind but was surprising done in les than two hours. When I went to pick my things up they pretty much gave 95% of it back. I seen there were at lease two pairs of shoes that were very lightly used given back, Nikes and polo boots. I asked why they didn't take them and they then accepted them for maybe $7 lol. Point is I don't believe they went through all of the items, one by one. There's no way they did. Slow cashiers and please get bigger bags. Safety issue....Toys and blocks and shoes hangers etc all over the floor a safety hazard. Customers can slip and fall and get seriously hurt I witness each and everytime I go into this store that the parents let their children destroy the store by pulling clothes off hangers they throw or knock down toys off the shelf get on bikes or big wheels etc riding around the store just destroying it They treat the store like its a play ground and the parents don't do a thing. Sometimes they even join in messing up the store making the work harder for the staff that works there. The staff needs to put a stop to this and fast before some one gets seriously hurt. Mice's running around bath room nasty. I noticed the owner replies to a lot of negative messages so we know she knows of the issue that her customers are having She must not have any business or customer service skills her self to let this type of stuff to go on in her store or she will do everything in her power to remove the bad un professional ignorant rude workers and put in a lot of new workers who has excellent customer service skills and are friendly . read more

I brought in 2 large garbage bags of clothes. Boys and girls. I dropped off on Tuesday and was told they will contact me when they go through everything. They let me know everything was done and I could pick up my items. I showed up the next day to be told nothing I brought could be used. When I got home I pulled up the picture I took of the clothes I was bringing in and realized my daughter's Christmas dresses were missing. When I called to say something, the first person was nice and apologized and tried to make it better. I then called again to let them know MANY of my daughter's items were gone. The manager got on the phone and acted like I was lying and kept repeating no one here would steal and she can just give me a $10 store credit. Not only do I not shop there and couldn't care less for the $10, I'm more disappointed and upset that items are missing and was treated as if I'm a liar. She also made sure to say, a couple times, this has never happened before, but when I asked about cameras on the sorters, the manager stumbled all over her words. I also understand how overwhelming and busy they can get at times and how mistakes can happen. When I showed up to get my items and was asked for my ID, they couldn't find me in the system due to misspelling my name and then was told my clothes were Junior size (which they are not) when clearly my bags were labeled worn and stained. They did find me in the system and then corrected themselves about why they couldn't buy any of my clothes. I'm honestly more upset about my things being missing than I am with how the manager handled the situation. Be aware of the times you bring to sell. read more

This place lost my sister's brand name barely worn shoes that belonged to my nephew. A bag full, they claimed to have misplaced it. I think they went on ahead and sold them. WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER!! While I left my off clothes, a play table & a 4 in 1 walker upfront , I went to look around clothes stank stains on multiple outfits. There were 4 workers, all of them was wasting my time looking at other clothes that were dropped off. Spent over an hour just to get 14$. I would never go there again. One of the workers walked away from me & told me I had to put the walker together myself, my walker was clean and sanitized before I got there instructions in the box as well. The prices here are not great. For baby/toddler equipment, you can get better prices on new items with a sale or coupon at Target. For baby/kid clothes, better prices can be had at other thrift stores, not to mention clearance on new items at big stores. The two times I have been to this location, half of the whole place reeked of sewage. Either coincidence that someone had bowel issues right before I walked in, or there is just no ventilation in that place. Save your time and energy and go elsewhere. read more

Honestly if i could give this location no stars i would this once upon a child is the biggest rip off i have ever experienced they bought some items from me priced at $4.50 and gave me 90 cents when at the once upon a child in hickory hills gave me 1.20 for items price at 4.50. Also the organization is atrocious putting clothes in bins for us to pick though I personally think it is rude if i am spending my hard earned money on the item it could at least be on a hanger, all i know is i will not be back to this store ever again. I like this store for when I'm stocking up on clothes for my son . You really have to spend time going through the clothes and looking for some of the nicer items that are fairly priced . Sometimes they will over charge for items that you can literally go across Lagrange for a lot carters . I Ike the winter options that they offer . You can find decent prices on North faces and Columbia coats and jackets . Also the boom section is awesome ! You have to pick through the toys to find nice ones that aren't beat up . The employees are okay . They stand around talking a lot but I mean they are typically young high school girls but they are nice . I think this store is great if you have time and aren't rushed ! read more

Great selection of used baby clothes, and finds, however not the most baby friendly environment. I have been there three times in the past four months and they never have a working restroom. It's always out of order. The narrow aisles do not make it easy to use a stroller in the store. The real kicker us when I asked the cashier as I was checking out if I could nurse my baby in the fitting room. She said "I'm going to have to say no. We need our fitting rooms." I have never seen anyone use these fitting rooms. And I was a paying customer... I was pretty outraged since this was a CHILD's store. You think they would be more accomodating to mothers since they probably make up 99% of their customers. read more

I am a *huge* fan of resale shops. I tend to have a problem with mass consumerism (I know, it makes me sound like a blast to be around) and general wastefulness so the idea of saving a bit of money and buying items with a lot of life left in them...well, it appeals to me. That being said, I am not a fan of the Orland Park location of Once Upon A Child. I'm expecting my second child and am on the look out for well-priced and gently-loved baby items. Orland Park tends to be a bit of a...big SUV/soccer mom/yuppie-ish kind of area so I thought the OUAC might have the goods. Do they? Maybe. It was hard to tell. Why? Complete and utter disorganization. It appeared that items had been strewn about and never returned to their proper location. Masses of clothes were jammed onto the racks making it difficult to actually look through the items. Strollers and other baby gear were stacked together in a haphazard fashion with attachments from one brand of stroller stuck on an entirely different stroller. The pricing system baffles me. A used Graco stroller (in a long-ago discontinued pattern) was priced at nearly what a new Graco stroller would cost. Is that long discontinued fabric in such high demand that it commands such a price? Doubtful. Carter's jammies complete with worn patches and formula stains (yum!) were priced at $9.00. The higher end strollers and such available had definitely seen better days and were still over-priced. Want to look for a toy for your little one? Don't do it here. The toy selection laying all over the floor and rather dirty. One Sophie Giraffe had the remnants of what may have been fruit snacks stuck to her poor little head. Ew. Other reviews mentioned the less than stellar staff although I cannot attest to that. There was one very long line when I arrived in the store and only one staff person ringing anyone out. The line hardly moved in the time I was in the store so I am assuming that there was no extra staff in the store. The reviews for this store seem very hit-or-miss so perhaps I was unfortunate to arrive on a miss day. However, given the filthy and disorganized nature of the store when I did visit, I cannot say I will be in a hurry to hit up this location again. read more

I've always heard people talk about going here for a good deal for large and growing families. Yesterday, however, an amazing mother and small business woman that I know was shopping at your store. She had with her school clothes money and bill money that totaled $500. It was every bit of money her family has right now. It was stolen in your store and your employees and your store have cared so little that you laughed about an increasingly debilitating situation. You hid video footage from her, you were disrespectful and even as the police came in you failed to show concern for her, her family and your store. You didn't pull the footage up and ask the police to go over the footage with you, as they're supposed to be trained to find criminals, but simply said you didn't see much. I would venture to say that something is suspicious about a team who would be so hurtful and indifferent while working a children's store. Heather Parks didn't deserve this treatment with a brand new baby in tow. I highly suspect the store employees themselves of the theft due to the nature of the situation. Disclaimer 1: I'm a seller, not a buyer. I can't speak to the quality of items available for purchase. I can only speak of my experience of selling things to OUAC. Disclaimer 2: I've never attempted to sell them baby clothes, not ever. So I have no idea what that process is like. So, you're probably wondering what the heck I'm going to write in this review, right? :) Almost two years ago (this week!), we welcomed our baby girl home after a fairly uneventful (thankfully!) pregnancy and a great delivery. We had procured all new baby items during my pregnancy as we pretty much needed every.single.thing one might need to care for a new baby. No, really...we had, like, nothing. So we shopped. Kind of a lot, actually. It took less than .02 seconds to decide she was the end of the babymaking era for our family (um, did I mention our other kids are 8, 7, 7, & 5? :) & once we hit the ground running with that notion, we decided to shed off our gear as she grew out of it. Whatever the exact opposite of "baby fever" would be...well, I have a strong case of that. Suffice to say, we've ditched TONS of gear to OUAC. Here's how it works: you bring in your gently used item and they make you an offer. The nice thing is that they tell you exactly how much they would give you and exactly how much they will tag it for sale. You can choose at that point of you want to proceed. To be clear, you could probably make a bit more money selling through Craigslist or what-have-you, but if you can't be bothered with that (me), have zero time for that (me again), & adore instant gratification of cold, hard cash in hand (also me), OUAC is for you. They don't buy car seats or stuffed animals, but we've sold swings and high chairs and toddler bed and...yeah. A never-used double stroller that's taking up unnecessary space? Sold. A crib? Sold. This is my jam, baby. We've netted hundreds of dollars from OUAC over the last two years. Cha-ching! The employees are nice enough and they deal with a lot of complain-y customers. Oh, and one final note: be prepared to wait a bit. The lines are usually a bit long, so I recommend selling solo if at all possible (even if you have a very patient little one). Ive been selling and buying from this location for a few years. I saw some reviews while checking the store hours but still brought my items in to sell. Maggie was extremely helpful and my items were completed in a reasonable amount of time. I could see they were backed up and short staff. They took a majority of my items and the ones they didn't I looked over and understood why they passed on them. My youngest is going through a moana faze and I was able to find her a few moana shirts and a night gown. Will definitely continue to buy and sell here. read more

I've never walked out of a store because I was being ignored. This store was my first. I hate writing reviews but this once upon a child is horrible. Bad customer service. Was waiting in line to buy items and the cashier just ignore me and check out people that came after me. I had my items and my daughter was looking at the stuff by the counter. The cashier said she would be right there had my stuff I wanted to buy. My daughter was picking out a last min thing. And the cashier took the person who was behind me. granted I was waiting before this lady came. I left what I was going to buy and left. Will never go back to this location ever again. I went in today to sell some items 18 items to b exact. And got little of nothing for 12 pieces bought. When i got home i was putting the items away that weren't bought and it should have been 6 items left. It was only 5 items! because they decided to stick an EMPTY shoe box back in my bag! Perhaps I'm missing something, but I'm crazy about this place. I happen to be allergic to the suburbs, but when I get the email for one of their "bag sales," I'm on it! You can fill a bag (albeit a small bag) with clothing and pay $10 for the lot. I generally shop freely then slink over to a corner to fold and roll each item into the tiniest possible size before stuffing the bag to capacity. Re: selling clothing, check the website first or call to see what they're looking to purchase or just consider the upcoming season (e.g. bring Halloween costumes & winter clothes in Jul/Aug, summer items in Jan/Feb). I try to bring items whenever I go to get a better deal. Now, it IS a thrift store, so you have to sort through the junk but everything is arranged by size and color so that helps and I never have a problem finding multiple, high-quality items. This place is kind of awful, but it's really the only one of its kind in the area, so I guess it deserves some stars for that. They have a new location, which is a lot nicer, but still, when you go in you need to know it's going to take a while to sort through the large amount of crap on the shelves. There are great deals to be had on kids stuff (clothes primarily) but you do have to dig. They have good deals on shoes as well, but while they're supposedly sorted in bins by size that's really not the case and you have to take time to sift through to find the sizes you want. They buy used clothes/shoes/toys, but I wouldn't bother since they won't take half of your stuff and will only take the best of the lot and offer you an insulting dollar amount for it- it's better to just donate your children's clothes, plus it takes them around 45 minutes do go through it. It's a total exercise in frustration. Be sure to sign up for their emails, because they do have occasional sale days which can save you a lot. Also- I wouldn't go here at night by yourself since most of their parking is on the side of their building which has no lighting and is pitch black and secluded. read more

Stopped in right when they opened i was told I had one person ahead of me so I decided to shop around I walked around for awhile nobody said anything to me didn't ask how I was doing 30 mins later I check out my stuff wasn't done (store was not busy) I asked if I can come back in 20 mins cashier said that should be enough time I come back in 20 mins nothing! I went in today to see if your store wanted to buy 6 toy items. In the future, when you don't want to purchase an item from somebody, just say you cant take it at this time. Please don't tell the person the toy is missing pieces when it is clearly not. Also, don't reverse g batteries in a toy to make it look like it doesn't work. Especially when the person put new batteries in that day and tested it. You already wasted an hour of a persons life, don't lie to them too. read more

I was expecting reasonable prices when I saw that the expense rating was only one $. Boy was I wrong! They supposedly had a sale going on but I found very few items actually on sale. Some of the prices are flat out ridiculous. Beat up, worn boys shoes for $10! Dirty stained clothes for $5 and upwards. Any name brand is $10 and over. I can save my money by going to other thrift stores in the area. Do not recommend, don't waste your money. read more

Overall my experience has been good here. It's a OUAC so naturally store will feel cramped at times especially when there is a lot of people in here. Overall my wife and I have been happy with the selection and quality. We only had one bad experience, but I came to find out they were in the middle of switching over inventory from winter to spring 2016. Also this is a second hand store, so naturally they will buy your items at a price that even if they have to clearance it, they won't loose money. It's not a charity, so don't expect to get top second hand dollar. But if you're planning to donate, give away and want a couple of bucks without the hassle of dealing with the person to person hustle, this is the way to go. EVERY SINGLE TIME I go there they say "I'm sorry we can't give you a time frame, we will just call you". Love this store! The store is the largest one I know of and is just filled with lots of goodies. I think the prices are more than fair on clothes. In addition they have dollar days and 90% off days. Sometimes I can get a gorgeous Hannah Andersen, Gymboree, Gap etc for less than $1 each. read more

When I first went to this place I was thinking oh man who's going to buy that but, as you look around you begin to see stuff you like. But it does have a really good price range for most of my stuff I brought there. I recommend this place if you need a little extra money or if your throwing away old toys or clothes you can go here and get some cash Also if your an adult and really not sure if you can drop you clothes off here. Then go to a place not to far from here call PLATOS CLOSET also a very good place to go too. But if you only have a little bit of clothes to take here I recommend to not come here because you might only get around 9 dollars, and yes if you still want to go ahead of course Also this place can get very crowded and busy so going during the week is a very good idea too. I went on the weekend and it was there was a decent Amount of people there but still I've seen it crowded so I recommend going when it's not as crowded as it sometimes gets. You are better off just donating your items in Savers. They make you wait for them to assess the worth of your items which would take an hour. The money they assess your stuff for is not even worth the time your are waiting. Most of the staff doesn't know what they are talking about, it took 3 staff members to find a item that was literally in front of them. 6/19/19 this is to respond to the reply from customer service. Taking time to review and see if the item is right for your store and customers is fine but making me wait while the others can leave is just wrong and unfair. Clearly I was the only one standing around there waiting while I saw others drive off in their cars or better yet come back from driving their cars and saying I brought this from home since I forgot it and you will need it assess the item. There has to be a better system that would satisfy the store and costumers. I guess I was the fool listening to the staff. Never again will I bring my items there! Waste of time! read more
