This was a great place for my birthday I played at Once Upon an Escape today and the Seven Dwarfs: Escape, and I have to say -- it was such a wonderful surprise! The games were fun, * challenging, and kept me thinking the whole time. I love a good puzzle, and these definitely delivered without ever feeling frustrating. * The creativity, the clever clues, and the overall experience made it so enjoyable from start to finish. It was actually a birthday gift for me, and honestly, it couldn't have been more perfect. Okay this is a novel so I'll start with the "Bottom Line": Love the concept and aesthetic, especially as a family run business; very kind game master; would try the other rooms, but after the first one we did: boy, are we FRUSTRATED! We are escape room fanatics. Connoisseurs. Aficionados. Whatever word you want to use - we love this stuff. We've tried many escape rooms all over the US, to set a basis for this review. We were super excited to try OUAE. The website was adorable and from the get go, reservations were easy to make online. Given we were experienced escape room players, we chose the Neverland room, their most difficult room. The ambiance stepping into the lobby was bang on, felt like a darker, witchy corner of a Disney castle. We were pumped! On to the escape room itself... (Mild spoilers ahead, will try to keep this as vague as possible; if the business owners see this and are curious enough to want specific details, happy to chat separately). This room was supposedly difficult because some clues may apply to adjoining rooms. It certainly was challenging: we did NOT escape / finish (and usually we finish the hardest escape rooms in an establishment with a few minutes to spare), which is totally okay, but it felt less like we didn't finish because of the puzzles, and more like we got stuck on technicalities -- You know how it is: when the game master shows you the solve and you're like 'OHHHHH that's so smart!' and you are left nodding in approval and with respect over the ingenuity of that puzzle? Sadly that didn't happen here...: 1. On the puzzles applying to adjoining rooms, it felt like the puzzle mechanics were created first, then the theme was layered on top. The clues and how they were related across rooms felt clunky and forced. Some clues were either very ambiguous / unclear (mild spoiler: am a musician, I would definitely recommend re-drawing a clue completely), or totally broke immersion. 2. There's some non-traditional tech typical of escape rooms here (RFID, magnets, etc.). We had one puzzle we didn't trigger (which ultimately resulted in us not finishing) because of an RFID in a piece not being perfectly aligned. Felt like that was something the game master (who was watching along) should have overridden or nudged as this was a puzzle we "solved" and wouldn't have known to fix otherwise as we assumed RFID was aligned. 3. It was SO DARK. I totally get wanting to be immersive but man... there's an intro video in the beginning that tells you "we will give you everything you need, and you shouldn't use your phone, not even for a light..." HARD disagree. I needed a dang flashlight. We're in our 30s, I've had LASIK, my husband had his glasses on. We could barely see a thing, I can't imagine how bringing my in laws or someone else needing more vision support would have fared. We were carrying these lanterns around but they were flickering so much, it was practically useless. By the time we got to the second to last room, it felt so dark I didn't even want to try anymore. There's gotta be a theme friendly flashlight... Idk, maybe Tinkerbell's wand with a light at the end or something? All in all, ugh... was so sad, because I wanted to love this escape room so much! I think my husband and I would still try the other rooms just to see if our qualms apply to the others, but honestly, Vegas's escape room scene is getting more and more saturated, I feel like OUAE needs to get some of these basic things right to keep up. Again, I love that it's a family business, and I can truly feel their passion with fantasy and escape rooms. I just hope they'll continue to innovate their rooms to make gameplay more enjoyable for everyone! read more

We had a great time! The staff was so friendly and helpful from the moment we got there and the Once Upon a Time room was very fun. It's a 90 minute room but it went by so quickly, and we just got out as the 90 minutes were up too! Will be coming again. read more

This is one of my favorite escape rooms in Vegas and also one that isn't a franchise. This is a family owned escape room that has multiple immersive rooms. I've done 3 of them and they are all pretty good. Some we failed one of them so we'll have to go back and try it again. One of the owners actually notified us that if it is a repeat game that we've done then we can get a discount which is pretty cool. I like the challenges and puzzles in the game and I like that it's linear and constantly moves forward. One thing that is cool about out this game which is different than others is that you receive a "mirror" in which you can receive clues from it when you get stuck. Looking forward to doing all the escape rooms and excited for any further updates. Definitely a must for anyone into escape rooms. read more

Our group did the Arabian Nights room and I really loved the theme. The waivers can be completed before arrival which saves you a few minutes during check in! Obvi your phones are put in a private locker but they give you the key. The decor is super cute but I can't give it a 5 star because some of it seemed a bit dated, can't give you exact details since that might give you a clue.. speaking of which, I really love that you have unlimited clues but to get on their leader board, you can only have 3. I think that's super fair!! Overall I plan on returning to try another one of the rooms in the future! read more

Booked a New Years Day escape room for our party of 4 prior to a a late lunch / early dinner, scoring a $5 off per person by booking online. Having completed multiple escape rooms with this group before, we were excited to tackle the Neverland room, especially as it was rated to be the most difficult at 9/10. The inside of the establishment was beautiful and really captured the magic of the themes of the escape rooms with bright neon and fluorescent lights throughout as well as abundant ambient lighting. Sage, our game master was such a great coordinator, explaining the rules / nuances of the room clearly and providing clues via the Magic Mirror that weren't dead giveaways to the challenging clue at hand. Overall, this escape room was truly the most challenging we've done. Without giving up too much, it was really fun seeing all the different types of clue throughout each of the rooms. Not only were they brilliantly laid out but also enjoyable to see the cause and effect that took place after finishing certain clues. read more

I went with a group of 4 people and we were definitely all needed to complete the Arabian Nights escape room with multiple puzzles in each room. You could tell each item was uniquely crafted for the experience and for the most part, well maintained. Even the lobby was kinda kitschy and fun to hang out while we waited for the rest of our party. They have a super secure space for your phones to maintain the mystery. One of the drawbacks of this room was having to crawl through a cabinet which was fun but unexpected making me glad I was wearing jeans. They give you a magic mirror phone to get clues, which I thought was such a fun addition to the experience but keep trying to solve while you wait. The staff was very friendly but it did take us a bit to get started and we were able to track our full time sadly as the staff was different from our arrival to our solving of the room. Overall, it was a really fun time and I love that this was a family owned business. I'd definitely try out another one of their rooms in the future. read more

Yelp Review 2023 #239: My friends and I aren't strangers to escape rooms. Every few months, we get the urge to stress out for an hour trying to solve things for bragging rights. A friend of mine told us about Once Upon an Escape. Their escape rooms are fairytale-themed. It's a family owned and operated business. Upon entry, you'll notice rather quickly how dark it is. We prepaid our escape room on their website so, all we had to do was complete and sign the waiver by scanning a QR code. After that point, there's no need for your phones so put them in a locker. We watched the instructional video. Somehow, the person assigned to be in charge of texting for clues using the phone they gave us missed the instruction as to what number/ whom to text or we were given the wrong number/ info. We did Neverland which is supposed to be their hardest escape room. We waited forever for clues which wasted a lot of time. Not our best time but we managed to get out. Neverland was a fun Peter Pan-themed room. There's about 3-4 parts to this room. It's thoughtfully decorated and set up - totally on brand. There's a part where you have to go in a tiny and dark crawl space - and I bumped my head in there. Wear something comfortable. This is not the time and place to wear a dress/ skirt and heels. You have to really pay attention to detail as it could be a useful clue. Also, watch your step when going from one part of a room to another - there are steps and a small ramp. If you have somebody in your group that is prone to seizures, do not use their restroom. But overall, we had a good time. read more
