Not too long ago when we were spending just about every day at possibly the most popular original…read moretheme park in the world, courtesy of our residential privilege, we never once thought, as we were standing in line after line after line for up to three hours, just for a 2-minute ride that somehow made it all worthwhile, that the theme park's design was really all based on the original founder's experience of the real thing during his own childhood in the contiguous United States, but of course it was, and so now that we can, we're grateful for the chance to experience that theme park's founder through his childhood eyes, visiting the magical places he created in miniature for us in his visionary theme park rides. So what happens when that theme park gets to be too expensive, or when we don't actually want to spend an entire day in an all-weather queue but still want to experience some magic? An escape room, of course! We are not professional escape roomers - just an empty nesting duo who enjoys all of a theme park's magic in a compressed amount of time, on a reasonable budget. We found our August 2026 hour of fun in Las Vegas with Once Upon an Escape, and as the company name suggests, all their rooms are inspired by our childhood fairytales, starting with their incredible lobby, dimly but strategically lit and misted. The mist fragrance and incense fought a little as you enter from the desert heat, but the air-conditioning, as it is in Vegas, was most welcome. Once Upon an Escape is family-owned, has been in business for seven years, and is located close to Chef Kenny's Vegan Dim Sum and Lunakin. There was lots of free parking when we arrived for our Friday afternoon game, right before we watched the new movie The Magic Faraway Tree at the Orleans. The two Whatever-Gender restrooms were nice, with pebbles in the sink - cute décor tip, as was the hallway going to the rooms. For our first game with Once Upon an Escape, we decided on 7 Dwarfs, which turned out to be what we call a G2 room, where there were some technical aspects, as well as good old-fashioned brainwork and traditional keys. It was a little dark for us, but thematically, worked, because the dwarfs were coal miners after all. There was tons to do, and for a duo who woke up early, drove five hours through 107°F heat and then had a heavy but delicious lunch before doing the room, the riddles were a little more challenging than would have been otherwise, so thank goodness we had a terrific game host in Kira, who obviously loves her job and was eager to share her family's ingenuity with us. This ingenuity included a really cool introductory video via magic mirror and hints that were delivered to us via Rumpelstiltskin by text. The system locked up on us once or twice, but we managed to unlock it by simple hacking (it was just another challenge in our game!) There was some crawling involved, and some of the puzzles were less in-theme than they could have been but we loved the room. Our favourite aspect was the cottage core décor, especially the last room, and our favourite puzzles were the ones with the apple basket and the use of magnets. We take this chance to apologise for inadvertently tearing up the props, thinking they were part of the game. Happily, they were easily put back together, but, yeah, that was time we could have used in solving the real puzzles! 7 Dwarfs was great value for money, with thoughtful props and FX. Some of the props were very well-used, and we would have liked a timer in the room, but Kira did a great job keeping us on track and was very forgiving in letting us have an additional 10 minutes past our time. Most importantly, we loved the victory photos she took on our phones - she actually used a ring light! We can't wait to return for the other adventures Once Upon an Escape offers - that's at least three more reasons to visit the Sin City!

This time, we did "Neverland," their most challenging room. So much fun! It was so immersive and creative. It's an expert-level room, but they also have easier rooms that are just as creative and exciting. Right when you walk into this place, you're transported into a fairytale. This family-owned business was voted Best of Las Vegas for a reason. It's just 1 minute from the Orleans Hotel, 2 miles from the Strip, and has easy, free parking.

A few things made me jumpy but it was more so from me being in suspense than anything genuinely being super terrifying. Wouldn't really recommend for younger kids, but definitely for light horror or creepy-stuff enthusiasts. The puzzles were top notch with fantastic use of technology that made it feel very immersive. Our game master was attentive and honored our request well for no hints or judges. Definitely coming back to do other rooms!

The game design leans fairly linear, meaning your group will usually be working on the same puzzles together rather than splitting up frequently. That said, there are some great easter eggs built into the design, particularly in Operation X-13, where approaching a puzzle from a different perspective gives you a fun, alternative way to solve it.

The staff were friendly and made it easy to navigate. We're already planning on coming back to try out a different room.

They have a quite a few rooms and we booked The Cabin, where you have to escape before the serial killer returns. This is a unique location as the entrance looks like a dry cleaning business. Once you walk in the front door, the masquerade continues, and you must solve a puzzle to gain entry to the main lobby. It's easy, don't over think it. The main lobby and hallways to the different rooms are somewhat dimly lit and decorated well. It gives a good vibe before you even start your room. There are lockers by the entrance door to store your belongings. We were greeted by our game master Angel who got us started quickly. Before you enter the room, the exterior is decorated just like a cabin and looks very realistic. Once you step inside the room, it is very immersive and again very realistic. All parts of this room are pretty dark, but you will have flashlights. There are some good sound effects, and since it is pretty dark, it is a little spooky, but not scary. There are a few jump scares, one part that requires a small crawl, and a tiny bit of gore at the end. There is a good mix of locks and mechanical puzzles. Hints are requested via a walkie talkie. This was a fun, very immersive room, and we escaped pretty fast with sixteen minutes to spare. If you escape early, there is a bonus puzzle you can work on with your remaining time. Their listed difficulty level of 3/5 is accurate. They have a very generous same-day rebooking discount that I think was around 50% off. The only room that was available at the time was Chained, so we gave it a try. This is a two person only room and is normally only $29 per person, so with the same day booking discount added, it is a steal. This was a very unique room. It is narrow, a little dark, and the two people sit back to back in large wooden chairs with your hands in shackles and chained to the other persons hands. All of the puzzles are within an arm's reach, but you have to coordinate your movements since the chains are only so long. I think I remember a few locks, and the rest were mechanical or physical puzzles. It is described as scary, but we didn't think it was scary. But there is a psychological factor being seated back to back and chained together the whole time. You really have to work together as a team since both people can't necessarily see the same things. Hints are given via text messages on a TV screen. We felt a little dumb in this one, and asked for a lot of hints, but we did escape with about five minutes left. The listed difficulty level is 3.5/5, but I'd maybe bump it up to 4/5. Angel was a great game master on both rooms, and gave timely hints as needed. We definitely kept him busy while doing Chained. Their rooms are very inexpensive at only $45 per person, even for only two people. And the Chained room is only $29 per person for two. Definitely take advantage of their generous same day booking discount and do a few rooms. They even have an option to rent out the whole building from 12:30am to sunrise, and your group has access to all of the rooms. Only in Vegas!

Once inside I was inside I was told to fill out a waiver by another young lady who seemed to be a little annoyed, I didn't get the same vibe from her as I did with the lady outside. So that left a bad taste in my mouth.... Next you watch a video that gives you the run down of the process, then you begin your game. The instructor was GREAT!!!! She seemed perfect for the job, she was very animated and was with us every step of the way. I'm glad I was paired with the people in my group because I couldn't figure out a thing on my own. The clown was really good too, however he did get really close--like dam near touching you close. But they aren't supposed to touch you and you're not supposed to touch them. Also, you can't take any pictures while inside the escape room, so there aren't pictures to post from inside, however I did get a picture of the hallway walking in before watching the video. This was overall a great experience but I wouldn't recommend if you have bad nerves, or a heart condition.

He was so kind and patient, and even took the time to show them the big excavators and take photos for us. We also got the digger photo package, and the pictures Max took turned out great! He got this really cool shot with the digger dropping sand that we absolutely loved. It was such a fun photo and a great memory from the experience. The boys each got a paper certificate after their visit. When we brought their certificates back the next day, they added a stamp to them, which made coming back even more fun and special for the kids. They also got stickers and a lollipop. There is something you need to know about me. I don't drink or gamble so Vegas is a tough place for…read moreme to be entertained as you can only see so many shows. I also like doing new and different things. I've gone go-cart riding, I took a shooting lesson once, and I have gone sky diving. One thing I've always wanted to do was learn to drive a forklift so this sounded like my thing. I heard about this place while researching unique things to do in Vegas that didn't included gambling or the Casinos. Once I found there website I was excited to give them a try, but was undecided on which option to book. There were so many good ones. The idea of driving a bulldozer and another option to use an excavator and crush a car sounded exhilarating. I was a little nervous about finding a way to get there as they are so far out of the strip. I was worried that the LYFT driver wouldn't want to drive that far out of town to take us there or pick us up. They are located 20 minutes south of the Strip, which is a quick LYFT ride that costs under $40. And to be houses it can be the same amount of time to get around the strip and back to our hotel, the Rio which is off the strip at night when it's the busiest time and traffic is so heavy. The trip there is almost all freeway. I was a bit nervous when I found out you have to sign a waver not holding them liable if you get injured. The price of the big equipment is between $195- $320 ( Each sessions last between 45 to 90 minutes and range form age 8+ or16+) The most exhilarating one was $799 and you get to use an excavator to crush a car.. Now that sounded like the most fun. That's called the Aggression session and lasts 45 minutes. The age for this is 14+. Driving a bulldozer sounded fun too. Being so nervous I ended up booking the kid's dig. There you get to operate a 1.5 ton excavator. That seemed safer if they offered options for little kids and I mean little. Age 2+ can operate the excavator. Depending on their size they may have to sit on someone's lap. The kids dig is $29.50 for 15 minute increments. You can book multiple sessions. And for each session another person can be the operator. You can't split sessions between multiple people. Prior to booking I did call them and talked to Taylor I believe and she assured me as an adult without a child could partake in the Kids Dig. She assured me that other adults have done it and it's still a lot of fun. We went the last Sunday in May 2026. Our appointment was at Noon. I wanted to make sure I had enough time so I booked two 15 minute sessions. Having two sessions allowed us to each try it. My husband said he'd just watch and be my photographer, but I waned to give him the options too to try it out and he did and enjoyed it. Probably not as much as I did, but he had fun. Alex my instructor was amazing. He continued to yell out directions till I got the hang of it. I was doing it with another kid next to me and I felt Alex was really paying attention to me even though he was direction both of us. I was in heaven as I dug dirt out of the ground and created a giant hole. 15 minutes was plenty for time and I relinquished my second session to my husband. I had so much fun that I wanted to share the fun. I had trouble on my own remembering what to do so he continued to give me directions till I got the handle of it. I wonder how little kids so it as I was having difficulty remembering what to do. On the other hand kids play so many video games these days so they may be more used to this rhythm of movement. I highly reccomend this activity to everyone that is looking for something unique to do in Vegas. This was the highlight of my trip to Vegas. I'm so glad I overcame my fear of getting to and from Dig This. I felt very safe using the excavator. It's a little nerve wracking at first as you lean back a bit when you are digging. You really don't need the photo package as your companion can walk all around you and take pictures and videos. This only works if you are confident in their photography and videography skills. I had my doubts so I bought the photo package and I'm glad i did as Alex go a really good action shoot of me. And I'm a total photography lover. I like to capture the moment and I feel like the money is worth it not to miss the moment. When I went Sky diving I hired a photographer and videographer too and it was so worth it. The digital photo package with plaque is $67.93. If you just want the plaque it's $37.93. It's so much of a better deal to get the digital photo package as you get a minimum of 5 shots. We got 17 for the 2 sessions and that was of both my husband and myself. I was thrilled with Alex's photography skills and his ability to catch those action shots. If you have reservations do the Kid's dig. It's only $29.50 and have your companion take your picture and it's a total steal for all the fun you'll have.

I'm from Los Angeles, where there are some of the best escape rooms. I found this one to be a…read morelittle disorganized and chaotic. Some in a good way, and others, not. There are pre-recordings that you could not hear. You will likely be paired with strangers with varying degrees of experience. Each room is timed and some of the stuff would malfunction. They seemed kind of nonchalant about the issues and aware about them, when we mentioned how certain things didn't work afterwards. (As if it happens all the time!) I think that they should offer a slight refund to people if they're going to run an operation that doesn't fully work. Some of the puzzles were pretty fun, and I enjoyed the actor storyline. We did pretty good considering.
