I am so glad I called One Stop to refinish my beautiful 10 year old wooden front door and sidelights that had been weathered by the west-facing sun exposure and salt air of the South Bay. It had become yellowed and all the finish had stripped off, and I knew if it wasn't finished soon the actual wood would start getting damaged. From the start, Kevin the owner was friendly, patient in answering my questions, and knowledgeable. I like when workers have a positive energy. Kevin gave a prompt quote and was even able to fit me in the next day! And, having had about 5 different contractor companies coming to my house in the last 2 months, One Stop is the most friendly, happy, talkative team compared to any others I've seen! I LOVE how they were always chatting, singing, joking with each other and even took time to rest for lunch (that shows a healthy company that values their team). They worked really hard, both power sanding and hand sanding all the fine details of the wood before staining and finishing. I appreciated how they took care to contain the sanding dust as much as possible and even built a little wall of plastic sheeting just behind the door. So considerate. When I originally hired Kevin to remove my popcorn ceiling, I let him know that I wanted the ceiling primed but that I could not paint at the same time as I had not yet selected the paint color for the ceiling. I made it very clear that I would not be painting at the same time that the priming was to be done. I not only told him this but put it in an e mail to him before the work started. He quoted a price for priming the ceiling and then a quote for painting once I had the color. Due to several ceiling leaks, my project was delayed. I contacted Kevin via e mail to let him know that I was ready to paint. I replied to the e mail that was sent to me with his original quote. His response did not include any change to the original estimate. Once the appointment was scheduled to do the painting, I took off from work so that I could be home when the job started. When Kevin originally removed the popcorn ceiling and primed, there were numerous spots that appeared darker and wavy. I pointed this out to Kevin and he promised that these spots would not show when the ceiling was painted. I did not know that these areas were really the result of less than quality work until my general contractor pointed them out to me. He said that he would have to charge me for fixing the work that was previously done. As I did not want to pay someone else to fix the work done by Kevin's crew, I had Kevin come back to do the ceiling paint. Kevin showed up as scheduled. The appointment went down hill from there. After we walked around the areas that needed to be fixed, he informed me that he would not work the following day nor start painting until Monday. He then asked me how much he had quoted me for the painting. I was surprised as the quote was in the e mail that I had sent him a week prior. He then came and told me that he would have to charge me 50% more than the original quote due to increases in labor and material costs. This sounded excessive to me as the work only entailed a few days of labor for Kevin and 1 helper and I know that the cost of the paint had not gone up significantly since he first provided the quote. I told Kevin that he should have informed me of this large fee increase before he came to the job. As a business owner, this is his responsibility. I offered to increase the price by 15% but he refused. I believe that the real reason that he wanted to charge more was that it would take time for him to fix the work that he had previously done. In reality, he did not want to stand behind his work. It also seemed that he had another job to go to as he did not intend to start the painting on the day that he came. He wanted to put plastic on the floor and leave it there for 3 days and then come back and paint. I told him that if he insisted upon charging me 50% more that he could leave and he did. I will now have to pay someone to fix the work that Kevin had not done well. Kevin is not an honorable business owner. He should have stood behind his work rather than running away from the job. If he underestimated the cost to paint the ceiling, he should have owned up to it rather than make excuses. He did not care about providing good customer service or keeping me as a satisfied customer. I've worked with a lot of contractors over the years. I've never had one try to hold me hostage for more money. I will find a replacement painter. Kevin has lost a good customer that neighbors and others come to for referrals. I could not in good conscience ever refer anyone to Kevin based on this recent experience. read more

This is a very belated review of a job done in October. I was in escrow on a new home (3 bed/2 bath) and wanted to have all the interior walls painted prior to moving. Kevin gave me a very competitive estimate, with the understanding that the escrow may not close on the target date on a Monday. Ended up that escrow closed in the afternoon of the following day (Tuesday). I was renting back my condo and had to be out of there by the Friday. Kevin had estimated the job would take two or three days to finish (and I also had to schedule flooring people to come in to pull up the existing flooring in three bedrooms and install carpet). Kevin saved the day by showing up with three workers the following day and was able to complete the job in the same day. In my book, a 5 equates to perfect. Kevin and crew came fairly close and if there was another option, it would be 4.5 stars. In summary, 5s would've been for Kevin, communication (no issues), great crew (despite different guys each day), work (def tops) and price (murdered other bidders by far). So why 4? My project involved wrought iron gate surrounding the property perimeter which a pristine manicured landscape sits within. I arranged my ground maintenance keeper to comply with Kevin's request to trim/scale back interfering bushes and shrubs along with twining branches back to allow clearance for Kevin's crew. Truth be told, after One Stop completed their great work, I went to take a look on the following day and just cringed at the landscape scene...snapped off branches and twigs on key plants along with river rock pebbles scattered about. I immediately went into a corrective mode to repair what was necessary to restore the landscape. But guess what, I would not hesitate to hire them back in the future...along with the need to communicate any potential situation(s) that may arise read more

First time I hired these guys they were pretty good. So I hired them again for a big job. The second time around was a big difference. First off they cleaned their equipment in my backyard which has artificial turf. This resulted in dried paint all over my artificial turf which even after much scrubbing, I cannot remove. As far the painting, the first time I hired them they took time to repair defects in the walls and on corners. This time they did not do this. They slopped the paint on and it is obvious they did not do two coats in many areas, despite me insisting that they do so mid-way through the project when I could see streaks where the original paint was not covered adequately. So now I walk around my house and still see streaks everywhere. The first time around the same crew of three guys came every day and it was very easy to get in touch with someone during the project as things came up. This time it was a different guy every day, coming at different times, and I had a very difficult time communicating with anybody.
