Everything was great, food and drinks, and the menu had many different options and tje place itself was fun and cool

As a vegetarian out-of-towner, I had to try the crabless crab cakes. (The seitan Philly cheesesteak was tempting but the crab cakes seemed to be a more appropriate nod to Baltimore). I have to agree with the previous reviewer who said the crab cakes were too salty. There were too many flavors going on at the same time in the crab cake even when I didn't add the remoulade sauce that came on the side. I preferred the creamy mashed potatoes that came with the entree over the crab cakes. Still, if I'm in the area again, I'd revisit this hip-but-not-too-hip place and try other dishes. (Baked macaroni and cheese? You can't go wrong with smoked gouda, right?) read more

I've been in here a couple of random times and the experience wasnt as bad as today. ...I went here today on NY's day to grab a muffin and a latte in the early afternoon and to sit in their cafe area. The muffin was ROCK HARD. latte was ok. I'm going to chock it up to them being closed over the break. I was in there to read anyway but still... counter service wasnt the friendliest. I didn't complain. I should have. Hubby was in there to get a beer and some food while he was waiting for me later and he said the regular food wasn't the greatest either.Too bad. I was starving and we didnt end up eating here later and probably wont be back unless we are between a rock and a hard place. read more

I went here once and thought it was way too expensive for the food quality, but I came again and it was redeemed slightly by the vegetarian cheesesteak being pretty tasty. Still, for the amount of things that are vegetarian on the menu you'd think they would have more things that were vegan and affordable, but choices in that vein were sadly limited for a friend of mine (this was at dinnertime). Since I wrote this review originally, I've been back a few more times and I've started liking it a lot more. It's still a bit on the expensive side for what I'd like to spend on a lighter weeknight dinner, but the staff is always friendly and I've found a few more tasty vittles on the menu. The coffee is excellent and everflowing (even the iced coffee!), and the vegan dessert options aren't too shabby. I've also tried brunch at this point and while it's pretty delicious, I have simple breakfast needs and wish they'd have the option of plain & simple eggs & toast. They get busy and fill up pretty quickly on the weekends, so it's a good idea to call as far ahead of time as possible if you've got a big group coming in so that they don't hate you and you don't have to wait forever. read more

This place saved me from a cold rainy Johns Hopkins graduation ceremony. It had been 2 hours in the freezing cold damp and drizzly, to wait for graduation and as soon as my brother's name was called out, we ran to take pictures then headed for the warmth and shelter of the bleachers. From the bleachers we saw people coming with warm coffee cups from One World, and we immediately headed over since the ceremony was for one more hour still. I ordered a small hazelnut latte. And it was perfect. Not too much foam, a decent dose of the syrup, and hot. As soon as I stepped in this place I was pleasantly surprised. It's that kind of place where you can grab a drink with a friend and sit and gab for hours. Or study with a laptop when you just can't get the studying done at home. I wish I had a chance to try the food, but we ran out of time. But at least the latte I had was delicious and warmed my glove less hands. read more

Great place, fun location and good service. As a vegetarian, I love restaurants like this and wish there were more of them in the city. The food was good - I wasn't over the moon and felt like everything could use more flavor. We had the eggplant wrap, hummus platter and veggie burger. Again all good, but not great. They came with tortilla chips on the side, which was pretty boring. For the price, I would love to have a bit more pizzaz. Will definitely go back - but with higher hopes. read more

Lets get this out of the way... I love meat. I love it, people. I want to make a hat of bacon. I want carnitas spread on my casket instead of flowers. I want to eat a Turducken. So lets just say that veggie restaurants and I havent always gotten along in the past. But I went to One World with a friend for breakfast, and it was damn good! I think the first step is to mention that this is Vegetarian food NOT Vegan. Meaning there is fish, eggs, cheese, etc on the menu. Meaning the holy grail of all breakfast foods is possible: the breakfast burrito. AND they had mimosas on the menu. What else do you even need? The burrito was tasty and the mimosa had the right amount of champagne. Straight tasty food, and the price wasnt too bad all said. My friend said that she visits for the pancakes and waffles and that both are fantastic as well. I havent tried the other foods, but breakfast was worthwhile in my book, even if i couldnt get my bacon hat. read more

I've only been to One World once, and that was to take a friend there for brunch. I'm not a vegetarian, so I've never been too attracted by One World's reputation for excellent vegetarian eats. I did find the brunch menu a bit pricey, and the food wasn't exactly spectacular. Hopefully my impression of the place will improve once I visit again. read more

Quite sadly, I have found this place to be disappointing. Its hours are weird (they open surprisingly late for a coffee shop), the food is blah, the service is not very friendly (they aren't good enough to be one of those coffee-with-attitude kind of places), and it's unfortunate that it's all veggie, honestly, especially if they are not that talented in the kitchen to make up for it for the non-veggie public. The coffee it self is ok, but it always takes too long to order it. Anyway, I hope new (or at least newly inspired) management takes this place over and does a lot more with the food quality and options, quality and price of coffees, etc. They could do REALLY WELL if they offered a really good variety of lunches for all the students, faculty and staff at Hopkins that are tired of on-campus and Charles Village options. read more

I've been to One World for dinner, drinks, late Sunday lunch and drinks, early Saturday breakfast and coffee, weekend lesson-planning sessions, and every other scenario imaginable (well, okay, maybe that's an exaggeration)-- the point is, it's pretty much good for any time of any day, with any company or no company at all. The people who work there are great, and so is the beer on tap and the Grilled Tuna Steak sandwich. read more

Some friends told us about this place and we went there for brunch. I wasn't sure what to expect since it's a vegetarian/vegan place (carnivore here), but I have to say, it was really good! I got the iced latte and huevos rancheros. Everything was perfect and very filling. I love their decor, too. I heard they swap out different art pieces every month so there's always something new to see. The front part of the cafe is more for coffee and small treats, and they have seating for those working on laptops. The restaurant itself is at the back. We had no trouble getting a table on Sunday afternoon. I highly recommend it if you're in the area and looking for some good healthy[ish] food. read more

I think One World is fine. I don't really love anything from there, but I've never had anything that was bad. I do like half price mexican night. The vegan blue corn cakes are pretty good for breakfast/brunch fare. The one thing that makes me hold out hope is sometimes they have AMAZING specials, like white chocolate raspberry pancakes. I just wish they would put some of their specials on the regular menu to spice it up a little bit. I also wish their dessert selection was more consistent. When they have vegan cake, its great, but sometimes you'll go and just face an entirely empty case (and this could be on a saturday). Bummer. read more

Not a vegetarian restaurant, but veg*ans will find many choices at this popular college hangout, along with knowledgeable staff. This is a cool kind of place I wish my town had: coffee bar + real bar + restaurant, so it offers many options in a relaxed, art-filled atmosphere. The food could use more spice and ethnic influences, but the local students really seem to know how to customize their orders. I saw one woman get her veg meatball sandwich without the bread but with brown rice on the side, great idea. Try to get one of the two booth tables right past the bar, so cozy with pillows (actually along the whole purple wall). I had a vegan jambalaya, which was tasty and filling. Portions are huge, to feed the hungry college students and staff we saw pouring in happily, and the prices are low. Wish we could have tried some vegan desserts, but we were stuffed. Take some along! Wines were very inexpensive too. Both glasses I chose were barely more than $5 each, something I am not used to in a city. Very peaceful stop after a day at the (amazingly good and free!) Baltimore Art Museum. Parking with the kiosks which are often broken was a pain, so thank you, sweet bf who hates the rain, for running around in a downpour from one stand to another so we did not get a ticket. read more

+1 star for a junk food craving satisfying vegan chili dog. -1 star for lackluster jambalaya. Or was it supposed to be gumbo? Either way, it was that forgettable. The bar was set so high for One World Cafe that it might have failed to meet my expectations even if the food has been better. Don't get me wrong, the food was good. It just wasn't great. And from the "best vegetarian restaurant in Baltimore" I was hoping for outstanding. Or at least something memorable. Maybe we ordered the wrong things? Or maybe this really is the best vegetarian grub you can get in a city that is not known for being particularly veggie-friendly? Either way, I left One World feeling let down. If I found myself in the neighborhood again I would certainly give it another whirl but I can't say that I would go out of my way for it. read more

Food: Thai Vegetable and Tempeh Saute was very tasty and a very generous portion for the price. The Veggie Lasagna was okay, but was essentially like a block of cheese that happen to have a little pasta in it. Cheese is a household favorite, but I expect more from a piece of lasagna. The falafel appetizer was tasty and the soup of the day was decent. Service: Courteous and friendly. Food preparation was prompt, but waiter took quite a while to refill waters and follow up for a wine order after bring a wine menu. This is a great place to go if you are, like me, a vegetarian/vegan because 1) You can eat practically anything on the menu (which is very rare for me) and 2) the food is actually good. I would recommend going for breakfast or brunch. The portions are pretty large so chances are you will have leftovers. Thumbs up to the omelettes and blue corn pancakes. I was visiting Johns Hopkins a few weeks ago and I found One World Cafe right next to my hotel, and was pleasantly surprised. I spent an afternoon here working and hanging out, and intrigued by their menu came back for dinner another day. The goats cheese tacos are to die for - it's my dream meal (I'm obsessed with Mexican, but always feel slightly horrible when I come home bloated and stuffed - this was a fantastic healthy alternative which tasted 1000 times better). Solid vegan and vegetarian fare. It's a really good option when you want vegetarian options but might not have super hardcore vegans in the group. Good beer selection. I met some local friends here while I was in town. We had no trouble getting a table for 6, even a great one tucked back in the corner with pillows. Our server, Logan, was fabulous. We were a challenging group, with 2 vegans and one gluten-free person, but he knew what was good for everyone. I had very tasty gluten-free pancakes with home fries, which were too salty for my taste, but my friend ate them. I will definitely be coming here again in the future! read more

Eating a fabulous tuna melt as I write this note. Yes, lots of vegan options but I wanted tuna fish. It came on toasted wheat with lettuce, tomato and onion and melty cheese. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Baltimore. It's got a great cozy atmosphere. I'm not a vegetarian but there Philly Cheese "Steak-Less" is extremely tasty. They also have great nacho's. My wife and I go to One World 3-5 times a month and it is on the top of our list for Bmore eateries. She is vegetarian and loves having the menu all to herself for once. The cooks truly care about the recipes, presentation, and quality. I've never had a dish that wasn't delicious. The only star I can deduct is for the awkward layout of the sunken dining room. I ordered the eggplant gyro. It was ok. My idea of how eggplant should taste comes from a Cantonese background so hard to tell objectively. However, the spinach was too oily and the presentation was only decent. Waiters ate very nice and close to Hopkins. Only thing is food is meh. read more

This is a lovely cafe with many vegan options! They opened a few minutes early, which was nice. There is plenty of space and is decorated in a cozy way. I had the vegan french toast and the vegan organic blue corn pancakes, both were delightful with coffee. The case up front with vegan baked goods is hard to resist! My only complaint is that the coffee wasn't very warm and the cashier wasn't friendly. Other than that there is something for all! read more

Currently eating the delicious boca burger and chili with my grandpa. My dad recommended the place because he goes there all the time. The prices on their in house menu does not match the prices that are in their computer. A boca burger was recommended to me with a price tag of $6.00. When the cashier gave me my total I noticed she charged me $7.50 for the burger. When asked why - I was told because the menu is old. I said but it's what you have advertise right here. Upon requesting to speak to a manager I was told that the manager is the one who puts prices in the computer. After this the cashier immediately caught an attitude an refused to even look at me. I could tell she really became upset when I challenged her skill level by requesting a receipt that she had no clue on how to print. A short while letter a older woman came out and told me they would charge me the correct price this time but the prices in the computer are correct. The lady at the register refused to put my money in my hand or even say another word to me. She even requested that someone else hands me my food. I'm assuming she was upset because I was charged the price quoted on the menu and not the increased price in the computer. I could tell she was mumbling something's to her coworker about me questioning the pricing. One employee even whispering back saying that the prices were correct in the computer. She replied back saying that's what she told me (as she rolled her eyes and continued giving attitude)I can tell they were all pretty uncomfortable with me expecting the price on the laminated menu located on the counter top and not just accepting the price in the computer. The cashier wouldn't even look at me when asked why she couldn't put my money in hand. Great food but the entire staff made me feel very uncomfortable with the constant side eye, whispering and rolling of the eyes and I waited for my food. I'm not sure if this was race related or just poor customer service in general. Please be sure that the price you are paying matches the price listed on their menu upon ordering . They will argue and try to fight it but eventually will give it to you at the advertised price . All menus should reflect current prices. You can not show customers an item on a menu and charge a price much higher than the listed price. The food is delicious. read more

I stopped at this cafe when I was in the area a few days ago. The atmosphere seemed clean and pleasant, the staff was friendly and helpful, but the menu was seriously lacking. Now, I know this is advertised as a vegan cafe, but if one is to push the "one world" theme, there needs to be at least one choice for even meat-eaters. There was none. But, that being said, I settled on a tuna steak sandwich. It was moderately priced, had a nice taste, but my main complaint is the fact that the bread was wayyyyy oversized for the size of the tuna steak. It made eating the sandwich awkward and unwieldy. I would recommend using a kaiser or brioche roll to better fit the tuna steak. It was well-cooked, just needed a better presentation and bun. I would stop here only if you're strictly a vegan eater. read more

Attended the jailbreak trivia event. This was my first time here and I'm really glad I got this chance to check it out. It's such a rare treat for me to go to a restaurant where I can pick almost anything on the menu. I got the "cheese steak" which I thought was really good. It's pricey but the portion is large. There is definitely a contingent of hippies, pining to be at an anti-globalization protest, working in this place. Sometimes the service is fine but other times hygiene challenged, hippies with bad attitudes seem to rule the roost. I love One World Cafe! I'm a vegetarian and my boyfriend is practically a carnivore and he always loves the food. Some portions are larger than others in the restaurant... for example, he once got enchiladas and was so sad when he saw how big my nachos were. It's not just tex mex food! I just love their tex mex so much I rarely try different items. The only "meh" item on the list was the hotdog. Meh. They have a bar in the middle of the restaurant we've spent many a casual evening and a cute little coffeeshop/bakery at the front. They also offer carryout. The waitstaff is outstanding. We've never had to flag anyone down ever. We threw my boyfriend's 23rd birthday party there and the manager worked with us to book off the entire back of the restaurant. The ambiance is great, the food is great, the service is great.. you really can't miss out. Oh! Their tea selection is excellent as well. They have outdoor tables when the weather is nice that are great for people watching on University. The price is right too. The place of nachos I almost always get is $7 and, I swear to God, it's as big as my head. I have finished it once and it hurt to move. read more

Nice collegiate atmosphere here -- I agree with another reviewer that this really has more of a "bar" feel than a "cafe." I'm okay with that, but some might not be. For Sunday breakfast, we tried a dish off the special menu, lemon-pistachio pancakes -- the batter was excellent, but they over-smothered the plate in blueberry goo and fruit toppings. The lower panacke was actually much better without as much goo. I got their tofu scramble, which was fine,but not exceptional. I think there's a tendency among limited-menu eaters to overrate places that cater to their needs - and I'm trying not to do so here. This is a nice place that has a healthy and "conscious" menu and that's fine if that's your thing (and there's plenty to enjoy for omnivores here, of course) -- but other than appreciating their approach, I doubt there's anything 5-star about the place (though admittedly I didn't get any baked goods, which are rumored to be very good). Pretty good food, decent ambiance, and a good overall approach. I may be back to try a wider swath of the fare. Plant Strong: Excellent options, menu is all vegetarian and maybe a third is clearly marked as "vegan." Whole wheat bread is the standard toast. Very Engine 2-friendly. read more

It's been a while, and this review is way overdue. Not too complex, homey, and not pretentious at all. One World is a keeper. I always feel like I don't have to worry about whatever I get here, The foods is aways light and not overpowernig in a good way , and I always have room for desert! I've only recently tried to become a vegetarian and it's getting easier and easier the more places I discover like this. I'm not the most inspiring of a cook at home, and really do enjoy when I can sit down and relax and let someone else take over. Th past couple of times I've been with my husband and friends, we've had Sophie as our server - and she is just a doll. Although to be fair I don't think I've ever had an impatient staff member. This place is a gem. Conveniently located with plenty of outdoor seating. When it's open, the back room is my favorite especially in the evening. Vegan and vegetarian need not be boring - or without an adult beverage. The bar is well stocked. Don't be afraid to try the more creative dishes. The cook is inspired. I particularly like the zucchini "crabless" cakes and the tofu scramble. The burger specials can be quite nice. The staff exude friendly competence - just perfect. read more
