I was craving Jamaican food and ordered from this restaurant on Uber Eats last night. Unfortunately, my order never arrived because the restaurant was closed, even though they were still accepting orders on Uber. Wanting to give them another chance, I ordered again this morning. I got the jerk chicken special with rice and peas and cabbage, expecting a fresh, flavorful meal. Sadly, the experience was very disappointing. The jerk chicken was extremely tough and dry, the rice and peas tasted old, and the cabbage appeared spoiled& had a terrible smell (not edible) I spit it right out my mouth. The entire meal was not fresh and was simply reheated in a microwave. I eat Jamaican food regularly, so I know what fresh Jamaican cuisine should taste like. I called the restaurant to address my concerns and hopefully find a resolution. Instead of listening or attempting to make things right, I was repeatedly told that the food was fresh. There was no effort to resolve the issue or acknowledge my experience as a customer. I don't normally leave negative reviews, but after two disappointing experiences in less than 24 hours, I felt it was important to share. Stopped by this restaurant towards the end of the day on a a Saturday. Experience: since I'm not local, I called first to make sure they had oxtails and jerk chicken. The gentleman who answered, was dry and quick. Damn near hung the phone up in my face to get off the phone so fast. Upon arrival, said gentleman was sitting at one of the dining tables. It was empty inside of customers. I greeted him with an excited smile and he softened his disposition. Now, if you know Jamaicans, being fair I wasn't overly surprised at his stoicism and seriousness. The restaurant: There was only the remaining patties in the display case. Outside of that, a pretty empty place. Doesn't look like a bustling and meticulously decorated restaurant. It's cold and cafeteria like. There's no smell of deliciousness in the air and again nothing to see. No pictures of the food, nothing. Even the kitchen was so clean and closed down, it looks like the food is prepared elsewhere and brought in. Service: the gentleman wasn't rude. He just didn't offer any advise, ask any questions.. nothing. But as I was waiting on my plate, another young lady walked in. She called in as well and received the same dry and quick energy when she called. But when she walked into the establishment, clearly she's a regular. He lit up like a Xmas tree. She was such a pleasant and beautifully spirited woman, she gave her opinion of the gold (she said it was good). The food: Reminder, I was basically going off of the pictures on Yelp. My boyfriend talking about if the Mac n cheese looks good get him some. My response, I can't see a dang thing! The regular customer was surprised they had Mac n cheese (mind you). I ordered a large Oxtail plate. Wasn't asked about sides at all. Basically giving I'm getting what he's got. And I ordered a large jerk chicken plate. When the gentleman began bagging up my food, before he tied it up, when I saw him try and give me (1) small ahss thing of jerk sauce.. I had to stop him to look before he tied it up. Sure enough, chicken dry as hell. For dang near half a chicken with some dry rice and peas (1) jerk sauce?? At the price point of each plate (over $25) . I ask for more sauce, I said, if I bring this home to my boyfriend he's going to have a fit! He gave me one more. I insisted another and he was getting ready to deny it, but ok told him I'll pay for it. I said there's no way my BF is eating that dry. I was so caught up in making sure the jerk was right, I didn't peep everything else too deep. I bought (2) patties as well (beef). $70 to feed (2) with large plates and a patty. The Oxtails: small oxtails, a good portion. They were ok. Some pieces were a little tough and dry, let me know this was definitely the bottom of the pot. Had they had Mac n cheese (they were out) I would have opted for that over rice and peas. Only because most places don't do it right. Again, it's end of the day.. Both my plates definitely got the burnt bottom. My boyfriend had more of the crispy parts than I. But definitely dry and sitting. BUT not bad actually. I threw some of this Carribean hot sauce I have on it, turned it up. The oxtails: 6.5/10, The cabbage a total NO (0/10) . The beef patty: 9/10 (good ). The rice and peas: 6.5/10 The jerk chicken... as a disclaimer, Jamaica is my choice vacation spot, jerk being a staple upon visits. So my idea of what jerk should taste and look like is high. Do not expect your chicken to come to you already sauced. It's dry, like it's straight off the grill. The chicken was tender, and had a really good flavor. Without the jerk sauce. Now does it give me that taste the grills in Jamaica give the chicken. No. Being fair, it has a really good Smokey grill to it. IF you have your own jerk sauce use it. The sauce they provide the texture wasn't saucy more like applesauce texture. It wasn't spicy and just not jerkie. The jerk: 7.5/10 Last, I was irritated I didn't pay attention. I'm first born American in a Jamaican family and I was happily surprised to find a Jamaican restaurant, in Chatsworth of all places, that was within walking distance of my mechanic's shop. The restaurant is in a strip mall, next to a barber shop. The woman behind the counter was so friendly and helpful that I was genuinely concerned about the quality of the food. Typically in a Jamaican restaurant, the ruder the service, the better the food is. This spot is the happy exception to the rule. The food was EXCELLENT. I asked for a recommendation for their best menu option and she suggested their fried chicken and maaaaaannnnnn, I think about that chicken like white dudes think about the Roman Empire. I'm actively trying to come up with reasons to take the long drive back to Chatsworth to try more of their menu. If you're ever in the area, this is worth a visit. read more

I was in the mood for some Caribbean food and visited this local gem for some take out . Dine in seating available Music and staff friendly Food ordered: Oxtails plate (small) with steamed cabbage , plantains, festival bread, and rice and peas. Oxtail was delicious , flavorful and tender. (Star of the show) Rice and peas were a solid 3/5 loved the flavor of the rice but the were minimum beans in my portion. Steamed cabbage was good , not over cooked and seasoned well. Festival bread unfortunately was hard unable to chew. What I didn't take a picture of because it was gone before I arrived home was their AMAZING sorrel/ginger drink ! I can drink that everyday!!!!! Was ok . Got the lunch special, looks like a smaller version of the main size . Jerk chicken and rice and peas and veggies , a plantain and a festival ! Price around 13.99 , also got a pineapple ginger juice with was really good. Food came out fairly quickly , it came with a side of jerk sauce I think it was . Unfortunately, there are only a few Jamaican restaurants in the LA area and its environs. One of them, is One876 Caribbean Restaurant, in the Valley, specializing in Jamaican food. During my past travels, Jamaica was one of my stops, where I developed a fondness for their signature dishes, in addition to the well known Jerk Chicken, prepared on home turf. Having been to One876 before, this time I opted for their Curry Chicken, one of the three chicken selections from their lunch specials menu. This is also one of the items in their hot-case and it is spooned out with cabbage, rice & peas and festival or plantains. One thing is certain, the chicken is tender, easily detaching from the bone. The other factor to recognize is that a "curry" preparation from Jamaica is different to other ethnicities. This is reflected in the unique mix of spices that makes up the curry and the fragrant aroma that accompanies each bite. Overall, it was a well balanced meal that deserves, many more repeats. However, there is room for improvement. The customer service here is mechanical, indifferent and needs more refinement, if they desire to compete in the dynamic ethnic restaurant marketplace. read more

I thought I'd give it another try. There's a last time for everything. This was my last time eating here. Food - I ordered curry chicken, rice and peas and candied yams. I received 1 and a sliver pieces of candied yam and a lot of sauce (seems like it was sitting around all day and it's what was left for the day ). It was primarily sugar. Super sweet. Ugh! The only flavor was sugar. I wouldn't have even cared about the paltry portion for $5.50 if it tasted good. But it didn't. They gave a great portion for the curry chicken and rice, but BOTH the chicken and the rice was over salted. No real flavor. Just salt and spice. So so salty, I couldn't eat it. The vegetable was so overcooked. Maybe I went too late in the day (4:30 on a Saturday) I wanted to like it, but it was too salty and sweet...gross. This place is wildly inconsistent when it comes to the quality of the food. The last two times I ordered an oxtail dinner, it arrived without the cabbage or festival bread. This time, I ordered the oxtail dinner again, and the meat is so tough I can't even eat it. I literally can't pull the meat off the bone. To make matters worse, the cabbage is barely cooked, it feels like I'm eating coleslaw. At this point, they're 0 for 2. The service is terrible, and now the food isn't great either. 6/21/2025 - This woman-owned Carribean Restaurant was open about five years ago. A lot of business come from online orders. The food presentation is very good, providing a typical Caribbean regions' flavor. The pineapple & ginger drink is 5 stars because it has a heavy ginger flavor and taste with a perfect sweetness (highly recommended) - I consider it as a healthy drink. If you like Carribean food, this place is for you because the Jerk Chicken and Shortrib are the same qualities from the Perfect Day at CocoCay in Bahamas I visited in March 2025. I've been eyeing this spot for a hot minute and finally popped in when I needed a lil something quick. Service was great but the patties were fantastic. The curry chicken patty was so good I was shaking at how immaculate the crunch was. Perfectly spiced and flavored. The beef patty and veggie patty was delectable too but the curry chicken comes out on top for that crispy flaky crunchy crust and incredible filling. You know it's good and flakey when your car is littered in it (def recommend not taking it out of the bag if you're eating in the car lol). I haven't been here in a while but wanted a beef patty'. I waited until 11:00 then 11:05 to call again today and no answer so I opted to eat elsewhere. Had an appointment in Culver City. On my way back I called again and a gentleman answered I just wanted to verify they were open. He responded they open at 11 I explained I called twice and it was no answer. I asked what time they closed because it was after 6pm and he responded 9pm. I was happy because even with traffic I would make it. When I arrived I had a small wait then I ordered a beef patty and small oxtails. He said they were out. I responded no I see one. He responded oh that's for someone else he put it in a bag and placed it back in the warmer. I responded okay. Waited on my food and when I got home I had this. 3 small oxtails and the price has increased since I was last there. This plate looks like a kids meal. I am extremely disappointed. I spent around $30 for this and mac&cheese. I tipped $5. This horrible and my experience was not great as well. I did a review before with 5 stars today only deserves 3! Another Jamaican spot in the Valley! Had to give them a shot. I got the Boston jerk pork and my wife got the ackee and saltfish - which she tends to break open new Jamaican restaurant experiences with. We were running errands in the area, but by the time we arrived, around five or so, it was just us and the staff. The place has an adequate amount of space to the dining room, but with both TV monitors off and no other patrons, it seemed a little more appropriate to eat our food at home. Mentioning this to largely say that the food traveled back well to Sherman Oaks. The heat was still there by the time we dug in. The jerk pork did come off a grill. A nice plus, given the cuisine and the advertising for the item. Not a lot of heat to it, but the spiciness had a presence. The bbq sauce concoction the pork comes with didn't taste like it came from the store and the dumpling in the sauce I guess helped for some house made authenticity. It didn't do much for enhancing the plate though. The rice and peas were very okay. Tasted a little on the old side, but we know these day-long batches of food at Caribbean/soul food places are most available and best enjoyed earlier in the day. My wife was not too impressed with the majority ackee in her ackee and saltfish plate. I had to eat her festival bread and she was less spirited about finishing her half of the beef patty we also ordered - which was flavorful and had a good crust-to-filling ratio. The food we had can satisfy a lot of people who are happy enough to say they know what Jamaican food is, with One876 being their only exposure to the cuisine. The elements of our plates seem to work way better as wholes, if you aren't scrutinizing the quality of the parts on their own. This place checks a box for having had a certain kind of food, without being remarkable. My guess is that their chicken probably does the heavy lifting with a majority of their patrons' impressions. I'm planning to try one of their several chicken dishes on my next visit, with a slice of cake. They do have an attractive menu of dessert options to complete any meal. read more

I ordered takeout from here recently and was very impressed! I ordered the brown stew chicken. It was so tender and packed with flavor! Definitely my favorite part of my meal. It came with a large side of rice which was good but I wasn't blown away by it by any means. It was a bit basic for me but that's just a preference thing or maybe I expected this exciting take on rice, I'm not sure haha. The plantain on the side was delicious. Parking: decent amount of spaces but small lot (not their fault) My interaction was less than 3 minutes because I just came in to pick up some beef patties None of the staff were wearing masks, from the guy taking his break in the front, to the cashier, to the cook in the back...it's cool I'm not here to argue about that but it's funny they have a sign about having to wear masks to come in (which I'm sure they won't enforce) and yes I know i don't have to eat out if I don't wanna run into this...but just letting people know in case it bothers them more than it bothered me Patty is fine...meat was a little dry but I'm not too well versed in Jamaican food so I'm not sure if that's how it usually is.
