What a cute little family-owned cafe! The owner was so sweet and welcoming and super funny. She offered me a sample of the yerba mate and I did not expect that taste- but it's the good kind of surprise. I got the dulce de leche yerba matte and it was delicious! My boyfriend is a local here and has been here a couple of times and always gets the ham and cheese sandwich. Simple yet delicious.

A hidden gem and one of my favorite spots in the valley! Besides the delicious and refreshing yerba mate, the owner is so kind and welcoming! The first time we came, she gave us a run down of the menu, some samples, and, recommendations for flavor combos. I've tried the iced Yerba mate with strawberry + guava as well as with mango + maracuya (passion fruit). The fruit flavors (they use fruit purees!) compliment very nicely with the freshness and slight bitterness to the mate. Such a delicious pick me up on a warm afternoon! A small and cozy cafe, but with tables great for working or chatting. I'll be back for more mate and to try the empandas! Free parking in the lot out front.

this place is such a nice spot for delicious bites and refreshing Yerba mate! We ordered the iced mango and iced dulce de leche Yerba mate. Both were really good! My favorite thing was probably the arabe empanada! We also ordered this slice of cake I forgot what it was called but it was pretty good and not too sweet. They were lovely and handed out flowers for international women's day which was so sweet! The parking is limited fyi. I'm definitely gonna stop by another time!

What a lovely spot to have a meal or drink and even work a little. My husband visited recently to work and kill some time before he had to pick the kids up. He said it was well set up as a work space which included places to plug in his laptop. He ordered some food to eat there, but was also ordering food to take to the kids. The owner offered to wait to warm up the kids empanadas and even suggested ones that they might enjoy. She will kept their drinks in the fridge until he was ready to leave. They all enjoyed the food and drinks and we'll head back soon to try other options!

I came here with my dad for a Sunday morning breakfast after getting a recommendation from a friend. This is an Argentinian cafe, and while they do serve food like empanadas, you must come here for the mate. I had tried mate before in premade cans at the grocery store and I had liked it! This however; was much better. We were greeted by the owner, a very friendly bilingual (Spanish/English) woman! She asked about our familiarity with mate and though my father had tried it once prior, I told her I had not but that I was here to try it. She offered us two mate samples and I loved them. The drink itself is a blend of green/black tea and tastes like it. I ordered the traditional mate (served hot!) in its traditional cup + straw as well as a few empanadas for breakfast. Hot Mate 5/5, this was a very lovely hot tea. It came with the herbs set up inside the cup above the strainer, a metal straw that connected to the bottom of the cup for you to drink the mate minus the herbs, and a gigantic thermos of hot water alongside to keep refilling my cup with hot water. If you don't love it being bitter but still want it traditional; I'd suggest not letting the water steep for long, but they also do have sweetener you can use as well as blended mate for lattes or juices. Spinach and cheese empanada 5/5, this was my favorite of the empanadas. I think the spinach:cheese ratio was well done and this was nicely savory for breakfast Caprese empanada 3/5, this one was just okay for me, I think it was a little more cheese heavy than I would have liked, I'd try another flavor the next time I swing by

The owner of this local cafe is so nice and accommodating. You can tell that she deeply cares for her patrons happiness and satisfaction from the second they enter her shop. I've tried a few different Yerba mate flavor combos, and so far the guava has been my favorite. They use real fruit purée as their flavor bases, which is amazing. I tend to ask the owner to pick her favorite pastry for me, because they always have many options on hand sometimes it's hard to choose. I love going there to enjoy my drink and snacks while working. There is plenty of table space to set yourself up for a few hours to get some work or studying done *For those that have not tried real Yerba mate tea before, do be aware that it is a slightly bitter tea. Personally I like it, especially when flavored, but not everyone might

A hidden gem! The ambiance is so cute! The green sofas are so pretty and they are comfortable. The staff is super friendly! The owners name is Gaby and she even gave out free pieces of cake to customers for her birthday. Super sweet! I love their blueberry mate-- super refreshing on a hot day and their caprese empanadas are DELICIOUS. Stop by, enjoy, and support small businesses.

My favorite study spot in the valley! Delicious pastries and mate, Gaby makes everyone feel like this is their second home and is so kind and welcoming. Always love the vibe here and never had a bad experienceGracias Gaby!!

What kind of empanadas filling do you have?

Hey, hope you're doing well. We have ham & cheese, chicken, beef, spinach, cheese & onion, tuna, caprese and vegan options: eggplant, potato + broccoli + cauliflower, mushroom, corn & red bell pepper, rice & lentil, and quinoa + pumpkin.…

Are they allowing people to work/study inside?

Hey Christian, hope you're doing well. Yes we are allowing work/study inside but have very limited spaces (2 tables). We also require you to wear a mask when you're not eating/drinking per LA City Reopening guidelines. Hope to see you soon!

This location is so cute, its tucked into a small shopping center on Reseda and Vanowen and I love how decorated the shop as well, its consistent as well with their other locations and there was plenty of parking but I do see that parking lot can get congested since theres an El Pollo Loco drive thru and a 7/11. Walked in around 11am today and was instantly greeted and they have kiosk available but the gentleman behind the counter said he could assist me when I was ready. I ordered a drink from their summer menu the cherry vanilla latte iced, its bomb and next I have to try their version of the dirty Dr. Pepper with espresso and I wanted their delicious BLTA but they were out of avocados ='( so I went with the grilled cheese with bacon and added tomatoes and their salsa. Their salsa is fire and I do know where they get it from but my lips are sealed. So, if you're in the area, like supporting smaller coffee shops, give them a shoot. FYI, they also have online ordering and I believe delivery.

I really enjoyed the Thai tea and I don't have much of a sweet tooth so it was nice to have that customization option. I will also note that the boba was great. It was cooked perfectly. We were then told to scan a QR code to place our order because they needed to focus on making drinks. After waiting in line, this was frustrating and felt very disorganized. Overall, the customer service was the worst part of the experience. It felt like in-person customers were not a priority at all. This was my first time at this spot, and it left a bad impression. They have indoor and outdoor seating options. BUT BEWARE indoor seating gets competitive. Especially on a hot day, you'll often see people moving from seat to seat to get away from the entrance or are waiting for a seat to be freed inside. It's a great place for anything really. I've had hours of conversations, reading and work done here. I've also seen many others do the same. My main con with this place is the parking situation. The parking lot is TINY, so you have to park locally. That's about a 3-5 minute walking distance from the store. I normally wouldn't mind, but it bothers me on hot days. The food is so interesting. They have both healthy and hearty options at a competitive price. It's the classic Chicken & Waffles, Avocado Toast, Bouquet Burrito (a breakfast burrito) and Breakfast Tacos. Someone in the kitchen also likes kimchi and loves mixing it in their food because they also serve Kimchi Breakfast Tacos and Kimchi Grilled Cheese. I don't know how many visits it'll take to fully experience this place, but I think it's worth it.

This review is long overdue…read more I've been a House Roots regular since they opened their SFV shop many years ago and frequent the bakery as well. This location is the newest (only about a year or so?) of the three. Each store has a similar and yet distinct style/focus. This shop is located on the ground level of an apartment/leasing space, so if you're not looking for it, it can be missed/mistaken. Parking at first glance also seems difficult but don't worry, there's plenty in the parking garage behind the shop/ below the apartment building. The shop itself is beautiful! Compared to the other two locations, this location is most spacious; There's outdoor seating as well and indoor seating. It's pretty family friendly and equally accommodating to students/working professionals who need a place to do some work. There's a grab and go section, for those who need a quick bite as well as some food items- pastries and burritos. Overall, the environment is pretty relaxed and chill. As far as drinks go, I've tried several- everything from the drip, pour overs, espresso shots, americanos, sweet lattes, and pictured, both matcha and einspanner dreams from the last time I came with my husband and parents. Pricing is fair but most importantly, all their drinks are good! The espresso is good consistently which in turn makes all their coffee drinks delicious. All the speciality drinks are not overly sweet and well balanced, unless requested. Specifically from the last visit, the vanilla cream on top of the einspanner/matcha dreams were to die for. My husband, who isn't a coffee drinker also mentioned how good the matcha was, even with almond milk (he's lactose). If you want to venture out/explore something out of the usual drip or americano, I recommend the einspanner or matcha dream drinks! Besides the good coffee, all the Houseroots locations are set apart by their hospitality, and this shop is unparalleled. Every time I've come to grab a cup on my way to visit my parents or for an afternoon pick me up, all the baristas have been welcoming and warm. Northridge is always a treat, can't wait to come back when in the area!
