My family and I have been coming here for decades but it's not my love for this restaurant, it's because my wife loves their oxtail stew (Rabo Encendido). So we come here for her. I've tried almost everything on their menu and was never able to find something i ordered enjoyable. It's just not for me. This visit I ordered their Lomo Salteado and the meat was extremely rubbery and unpleasant. My daughter ordered their chicken empanadas and it was a hard no for her too. When we were ready to close out, I asked the waiter as he was clearing some things on our table, if he could bring some to-go boxes when he had a moment for things we didn't finish so we could take them home. I never imagined giving this place only one star. Quite frankly, if I could, I would give them 1 minus! I have been to this place so many times in the past 20-some years, and I just loved their "Famoso Pollo Versailles", especially with their delicious BBQ sauce. I can't recall how long it was since I/we've been there to eat, but I always had good memories of the service and food. Nevertheless, tonight, after my spouse and I decided to have dinner there, we both said, never again!! We got there around 8-ish, and the place wasn't really that busy for a Saturday. Maybe 6 or 7 small tables. That was all that was occupied by customers. A female server asked us how many people were there and then showed us a table to sit at. Shortly after, we ordered our drinks and food. The waitress came across as unfriendly and not in the least welcoming. But the unnecessary noise from the kitchen was almost unbearable. Absolutely zero consideration that all customers could hear this since it is an open kitchen next to the dining room. And this place is already noisy because of the tile floors and high ceiling. Altogether, it made it all seem like a mess hall with this noise. When the server came and brought our dishes. My spouse had Lechon Asado, and I had their famous chicken with rice and black beans. The beans were in a small bowl on a saucer, and when I grabbed it to add the beans to my rice that was on another plate, that small bowl of black beans slipped out of my grip and half of it spilled on the table next to my plate. We didn't receive any bread, as all the other customers had on their tables. We had to ask another waiter for some bread. His demeanor wasn't any friendlier than the server we already ended up with. Well, at least he brought us the bread. When the waitress came by, again I showed her my mess and apologized, and I thought she would take care of it to help me clean up that mess. All she said was, it's okay and took off. I ended up with a huge mess of black beans next to my plate with chicken. My spouse and I couldn't believe that she couldn't care less to clean it up or at least give me something to clean it off. Nice. My chicken was very disappointing because it tasted overcooked and dry. So dry I had a hard time to cut it with their cheap knives. We finished our meal, and even trying to pay/asking for our check was an ordeal. She never bothered to come by. We ended up going to the front and paying there. I came by one day because I was in the mood for something different that I did not eat often. When I entered this restaurant, I already felt like I was on vacation experiencing a different culture. I enjoyed going through the menu and ended up ordering the papas rellenas, which were mashed potatoes stuffed with meat and shaped into balls, then lightly breaded and fried. The Famoso Pollo Versailles (Versailles Famous Garlic Chicken) was also a treat. This house specialty was a juicy roasted half chicken marinated in delicious garlic sauce and garnished with sliced onions. I also got their amazing garlic bread bites and this was the perfect addition for this hearty meal. I enjoyed the papas rellenas, which were extremely delicious. This dish was crispy and savory filled with a variety of textures. The sauce it came with was a great way to complement the item! I also understand why the garlic chicken has gotten rave reviews. We came here with friends after seeing the new Bruce Springsteen movie as they said it was great. I ordered the #6 Famoso Pollo Garlic Chicken and an iced tea while my wife ordered a Mixta salad, and we both thought the food was okay. Delicious food and wonderful hospitality! I was at Versailles for the first time time over the weekend and I had an lovely dining experience there. The restaurant has good offerings of popular Cuban dishes in vegetarian, chicken, seafood, and red meat. Serving portion is very generous and prices are very reasonable. For my entree, I had the shrimp with yellow rice simmered with a delicious sauce. My friends had the half grilled chicken and the chicken steaks and they had enough leftovers for a second meal. The restaurant was spacious and it felt like a diner. The wait service was great and our waiter was very prompt with our food and beverage. Was craving a Cubano and decided to finally try out Versailles. Versailles is a great restautrant with terrific food and a great vibe. The Decor is understated but this restaurant doesn't need any gilding because the food is phenomenal. EVerything I tried was fantastic. The garlic bread they dropped off was absolutely delicious, I almost want to go just for the bread! We tried a Chicken Samosa and a Beef Samosa and both came out piping hot and were delicious. I had the Cubano which was fantastic, Even just a quarter of it was enough to fill me up which is great cause then I had left overs for days. We also tried the Beef Stew which was fantastic. The beef and potatoes were fork tender and delicious. The waiter was brisk and efficient. I know some people would probably percieve this as a negative or as rude but the waiter checked on us frequently, made sure our drinks were always filled and checked that we were happy with our food. I don't need a waiter to kiss my ass, I need someone that is good at their job and our waiter was fantastic at theirs. I would highly recommend Versailles!! read more

It's been awhile that I have eaten Versailles food, so today I decided to order for pick up. I got their Famous Pollo Versailles. The food was still good. The half chicken was still tender and moist. The portions are still huge. That's a good thing. But that's not way I'm giving them a 2 stars. It's was for their customers service. It was how my wife was treated when she went in to pick up our food. While I was waiting in the car since there were no parking space. My wife said there was a older man working the front. My wife said I'm here to pick up our to-go orders, name under Kevin. The man said in a rude tone, I need the full name. She gave the full name. The man walked to the food and looked at the name on the order and Instead of handling the food to my wife. He pointed to it and told her to go get it. Ordered pickup and had a frustrating experience. Most of the food seemed ready, but I ended up waiting about 20 minutes past the pickup time just for three milkshakes. No one communicated the delay until I asked, and by the time everything was finally ready, the rest of the food had gone cold. I totally understand places get busy, but better timing or at least a heads up would make a big difference. The experience just didn't match what you expect from a pickup order. Came here for an early dinner and had the ribeye lomo saltado (cuban style). It came with beans, fries, and sweet plantains. Everything tasted great. My wife and mother in law shared garlic chicken plate, which they both enjoyed but didn't rave about. Plenty of tables were available, and the room was pretty spacious. Service was good. After finding out that El Cochinito in Silver Lake had closed, I was pretty bummed--it was my go-to spot for Cuban food for years. I hadn't tried many other places because I kept going back there. So, I decided to give Versailles a shot, hoping it would come close. I ordered to go, sticking with a classic: ropa vieja and a side of tostones. The tostones were delicious and the sauces were definitely a highlight. The ropa vieja was good, just not as flavorful as I had hoped. The arroz con gri (or moros) wasn't for me--it had a buttery taste I wasn't used to, and the rice grain wasn't my favorite. That said, the service was excellent. The waiter was very friendly and attentive, which really stood out and made the experience better overall. The restaurant itself is casual, great for groups, family dinners, or a chill night out. Prices are reasonable too. Parking is a bit tight--it's located in a small shopping center--but there's usually plenty of street parking nearby, so it's not a huge issue. Will I be back? Probably--mainly because it's close to home and has a welcoming vibe. And I'd definitely recommend grabbing one of their sangria pitcher - it was really good. read more

I went here sometime in 2023. It was recommended to me as I am a Miami born Cuban and grew up in Little Havana. Throughout my travels around the world there is only one place to get cuban food outside of cuba. South Florida. Drove from Ventura County to try this place out. Parking can be a pain as the plaza has a one way in and out traffic flow. Spots are tight and not plentiful just like everything in LA. Service was quick and friendly. They had Iron Beer which is one of my favorite cuban sodas. We try a few foods. croquetas, puerco de cuerdo, and arrozo con pollo. It was tasty. I bet its amazing to the uncuban tongue pero que paso!!! Not one dishes reminded me of home and I really hold nothing against this place. The food is good. This is the best restaurant, and my family has been coming here for three generations. My grandfather used to eat here every week, then my mom and I, and now I continue the tradition. I love that the food quality and taste have remained consistent over the years. I even remember one waiter from my childhood who is still working here--it's so special to see that continuity. That said, I have noticed the restaurant getting a little strict with extra charges, like recently trying to charge for onions when dining in or for taking out bread that used to be free. Prices also seem to change often, and it sometimes feels like extra fees are applied inconsistently. It might help if they had a "secret shopper" to ensure fairness. Despite these small frustrations, the staff are very nice, and I'm grateful for the memories my family shared here. I've been to 4-5 different Versailles locations in LA and they've all been very consistent across the board. My go to is their lechon asado with plantains. It's tangy and very porky. The onion slices they add is not pungent like regular onions. I know before they used to give a lot of rice with this dish, but this time around, they did not give that much rice. I really like the plantains as it's soft and sweet. Other places, they don't cook the plantains very well and it's still starchy. I've also tried their garlic butter squid. I remember this was also very good. The squid was tender and very garlicky. Don't plan on bringing a date here as you will stink of garlic. If you are doing take out/pick up, you can ask them to include their bread. It's not the greatest, but good to sop up the sauce. read more

I have been eating at this restaurant since the early 90's but this was my first visit to this location. Actually, this is only my second time dining in any restaurant since the so-called pandemic and it was nice to dine in. I had the ox stew which is my favorite and always on point with the yellow rice which is cooked perfectly every time. I also enjoyed the beans and a side salad - both satisfying. You get a lot of food for $25.00, (2.00 extra for substituting and salad). My only complaint is I was expecting to get plantains because I asked the server if the three sides included them was told yes but because I got salad, yellow rice and beans - the plantains would have been additional and that was a bit much for this particular visit because my mango drink was $8.50, a little pricey for a non-alcoholic drink but maybe mangoes went lol.
