Had the carbonara and agree with another recent reviewer that it was bland and lacked flavor. Very lackluster. Trust me when I say you can make something better at home. While it did need salt and pepper (you won't find it at the table) I had no desire to finish it. It also didn't come out hot, a little less than what I'd considered warm. The flourless chocolate cake was good however. As for service, it felt rushed and careless, no water refills and hardly around. I could have caught someone on a bad day, but certainly made the birthday dinner an uneventful dining experience when combining the flavorless food on top of this. 2 stars for the vibe, but certainly not worth another visit. read more

Food and atmosphere were fantastic!! The fresh pasta was delicious and my truffle pasta smelled so fresh with the aroma of truffles lingering that I wanted more! But, I like the portion size here, I didn't feel like I ate too much or needed to take left over home which is not often the case in today's restaurants. My only reason for 4 stars is that I have never been to a restaurant that serves "bottles" of wine in a carafe table without a visual bottle or cork to pour into a carafe. We were not informed nor asked to taste the wine, just presented with a carafe of wine on the table. I prefer the traditional presentation of bottle, corkage, and tasting. read more

Elegant romantic vibe of a restaurant that was right around the corner from my hotel room at the Journeyman. To start, they brought out a warm bread basket to nibble on with a house made olive oil. I had a glass of Poppy Pinot Noir from CA and ordered the Burrata and meat & cheese board for our apps. I loved Burrata, it was so delicious! Also, you can never go wrong with a meat and cheese board with your glass of wine! I had the half portion of their Caesar salad which was very rich in flavor, but did not eat the sardine lol. I ate here last year when in town for a convention and it was excellent. Tonight, my return visit was a big disappointment. I ordered Meatballs & Pasta which should be a very simple dish. After waiting more than half an hour for our food, the pasta was barely warm and the meatballs were completely dried out. They'd clearly been sitting around for a loooong time. Flavor was meh too. The restaurant was more crowded this year which may explain part of the delay, but my food was pretty bad regardless. The waitstaff also seemed somewhat robotic and not engaging at all which only further diminished the experience. There are a lot of great restaurants in Milwaukee so I will not be returning to Onesto. At best, it is inconsistent, and more likely it has gone downhill. I'd suggest looking elsewhere. read more

To say we are in love with this place would be an understatement! We went on Friday night and loved it so much that we came back for Sunday lunch. The ambiance is intimate and welcoming. The drinks were unique and STRONG. The food was beyond delicious - our favorites were the lobster pasta (beware there is a little heat ), the baked Brie cheese and the burrata. I've been to Onesto several times for a variety of occasions. I've dined here solo and in a large group. It's fabulous for either. My first experience at Onesto was when I first moved to Milwaukee. I didn't know a soul and my husband and son had yet to move (kiddo had to finish up school in Boise). I had some meetings in the Third Ward that ran into the dinner hour and strolled by Onesto, deciding to duck in for dinner. I sat at the bar and the bartender saved my solo dining life. He was friendly and happily chatted with me about everything from baseball to dogs (two of my favorite topics) while I enjoyed a manhattan and gnocchi (with scallops added--divine!). Most recently, I stopped by for some patio dining on the 4th. We ordered their sun dried tomato pesto and ricotta jar (not my favorite of their jars...I prefer the pea pesto, whipped mascarpone, and lemon, which is out-of-this-world...but the sun dried tomato jar was solid) and bruschetta (also a-ok). For my entree, I got their spinach ravioli. It comes served with sautéed asparagus, peas, and a lemon thyme butter. It is fresh and absolutely delicious. I've also tried several of their gin cocktails as well as whiskey and have been happy. They make an especially good Manhattan. The service is prompt and friendly and the atmosphere is all exposed brick loveliness. Get to it! read more

Food was very mediocre. My husband had the Lobster Campanelle. He specifically asked if it was hot and was assured by our server that it was spicy. It was very bland. I had the Pasta Carbonara and the sauce was the consistency of glue. I had to ask to have my water refilled. When we had coffee and dessert, the cream in my coffee curdled and I did not receive a new cup until we were almost ready to leave. Pleasant space in a great location. Feeling angelic today so I'll go ahead and round up what would have otherwise been a 3.5 star review What you need to know up top is: The food is great; myself and a friend shared the Honey Roasted Bruschetta to start, we both loved it. For entrées I ordered the carbonara which I was very pleased with overall; portions are nice and presentation was nice as well. Flavors popped; no complaints at all. Genuinely cannot hype the food enough. Also was a very tidy and atmospheric place. On the flip side the service was generally lackluster, we merely got what we needed and got out. I'll spare the fine details because it's a busy place and there's a lot going on; basically I would need like 2 more visits to make a solid judgement call. Lastly, drinks were so so; I had the blood orange mule, loved it, and then tried the sangria which I personally didn't love but was by no means a bad drink. I was also passed a stray margarita of some nature from another individual at the table, this was the only offering that I would genuinely call not good; perhaps it was just a heavy pour but it was quite literally a jump scare. We ordered the Calamari for an appetizer, it was okay but nothing special so wouldn't order again. The waitress brought us bread and oil after we ordered the app, so we really didn't need to order the app. I had been recommended to get the Rigate alla Vodka with chicken from a friend, so I did! Fancy Lunch Time for an update. I've brought clients here a few times now for lunch and they always leave raving on the food. DON'T CHANGE A THING. Given my recent hesitance towards management change with HD venues I was concerned stopping in today but they did not disappoint. Came here with colleagues for lunch during downtown dining week. I've never been here before, but really like the place. Unfortunately I did not order well. My colleagues had the homemade spaghetti which I tasted and it was absolutely fabulous! I had the grilled cheese, which was good, but it was mostly bread. My bad. The desserts were all incredible. They were beautifully displayed, and as much a work of art as dessert. However my colleague did lick the glass, showing how much she loved her dessert. read more

Was in Milwaukee on business and decided to take a trip downtown to check out the scene. Decided to grab dinner at this spot. Ended up at the bar since it was a 45 mins wait for a table. My friend got the steak. Good portion and cooked perfectly. Delicious mashed potatoes and fresh broccoli. He started with a Ceaser salad but was surprised by the sardine on top since he's not a big seafood person. He just put it to the side and enjoyed his salad. Ambiance was absolutely incredible. I love the skylight and probably the best seat in a restaurant I've been in. The service was also top-notch. The only slight downside was the food. The bread and butter was fine, nothing stellar at all. The appetizer was the best - sautéed calamari was delicious. The portion size for the pasta was eh, and the brisket with barely any tomato as a "bolognese" is an interesting choice.
