If I didn't have to give them a star they'll be given none I hate this bank and I'm leaving it's best to go to a credit union. First off you can't speak to a live person once the bank is closed then on top of that during their Saturday business hours you can not talk to a live person which is very inconvenient when you don't live near the bank because they only have one location in town. Rule number 1 NEVER bank with a bank that has one location in town. Their hours on Saturday is 9 am to noon why aren't the phone lines open when I have one question I don't feel like driving 20-30 min away for a response. I've been using their online banking from Minnesota. They recently decreased the ATM withdrawal daily limit which is super important if there are no branches in your state. After calling customer service to ask why they responded that their daily limit has always been the same which is false. One thing people remember is how much money they can take out of the ATM, especially when needing the cash to pay rent every month. Their customer service is horrible. I have been trying to close my account for the past four days due to their horrible customer service and even that is a huge run around. DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT with One United. You are better off with Chime bank which is where I will be switching to. Their customer service is great and they are consistent. I love saying that I bank Black but not at the expense of being valued as a customer or being informed of banking changes that effect my ability to pay bills on time. Not worth it. Service is Horrible at the bank every time I have been .. Tellers have nasty attitudes . Erica was one of the tellers . I was told that when I opened a checking account i was told that I would be able to cash checks after 30 days . No stars!! I tried to "bank black" to support the black community. That was the worst decision EVER!! There are other ways to support the community that doesn't involve having my hard earned money unavailable for weeks at a time!! Last week I made a $1000 cash deposit through an ATM. (I live in WA state and we don't have a location here). I use this account to pay bills and have my spending money for the month. . . Anyway, I made the CASH deposit on Thursday and didn't have access to any of it. Friday I called the bank. The lady said that I can have $200 of it and the rest of it will be available on Monday (2/6/17). Today is Monday. I called the bank. They said that I won't have access to my remaining $800 until Friday 2/10/17. This is some Bull!!! What kind of mess is that?? The customer service agents were incompetent and useless. They have no answers. I asked for a supervisor and they said, "She's not able to talk but you can leave her a voicemail". Okay? Now I'm sitting here waiting for a call back. I'm like, can I at least have access to half of my money??? Why am I begging for access to MY OWN money anyway??? This is crap. Closing my account ASAP. I'm over the BANK BLACK movement. I can't trust this bank with my money. Update: spoke to the manager today. She asked for a copy of my deposit receipt to prove that I actually made a "cash" deposit. So far I have been pleased with my experience with One United. I am an avid internet banker and don't live near any of their branches. However, I did want to take advantage of their senior banking/no maintenance options but I was told I would have to visit a branch to set that up. I thought that was odd due to how much info they require from you to apply via the internet. I sent a picture of me and of my driver's license with my DOB which clearly puts me in senior status. I don't know how much more they would know if I were to visit a branch office. Otherwise, I am good...I will see how it goes. read more

i am moving this weekend to a new place. all of my funds are in this account. i ordered a new card last week on 01/02/2020 and i have yet to receive the card. but that's not my issue. i have no way to access the funds! i cannot do an external transfer for immediate release to my landlord. they only offer pop money and i am being denied access to and it only allows you to send 1000 for a $5 fee! i am stuck. customer service ...very unconcerned. i have better capabilities with my wells fargo account. they wont unlock my cancelled card for 5 minutes in order for me to pay my bills! just pitiful and inconsiderate. read more

So decided to bank Black thinking this was such a better option, It's not. I left my small city credit union which I was a member for over 10 years ( big mistake on my part). Setting up the account was horrible but I'm going to give the a pass because it was it was during covid. After that seemed okay, then came all the over draft fees, like how? Every time you call, you get disconnected then you have to tell the same story a thousand times. Had an issue with my account called 15x while I was at work the one person who seem to know what do.......we got disconnected!!!! Ughhhhhhhh. I called back got a this I don"t give a shit about your $5.00 in your account was not helpful at all. I then demanded to speak to a manager who went beyond to help me and fix my problem. But here's my current issue they was supposed to send me a new debit card. It's been 14 days since I had any access to my money. Can they said they sent it out but the rep said she was sending me another. 7 days later still no card. Then I transfer money to another bank so I can put gas in my car It took 4 days to transfer, smh. Like what? No professionalism, and as a bank, there are way too many obstacles to do regular bank transactions. Takes too long to get a new card. No checks if you open the account online. I recently opened up a secured credit card with One United bank because I am big on supporting black owned businesses. I received the card and made a purchase of $150, and decided to make a payment in the amount of $150 the next day, to avoid accruing interest. I logged in to the website to make a payment, however there is no option to pay online which is NOT user friendly at all. The only options are online bill pay through your account, or mail in check or money order. I decided to make a payment via bill pay using my other bank account. My bank was able to located one united as a payee and I was able to set up the payment for $150. Typically it's should take 2-3 business days for payment to process which is understandable. A week later, I noticed that the payment was not received by one united even though the money had been debited from my checking account. I call the number on the back of my one united card and connected with a third-party customer service team that doesn't even work for one united. All they advised was to give it more time to process. I waited a few days later and the payment still had not been applied so at this point it has been about 2 weeks. So come to find out, the payment address provided by One United, was actually the physical bank on Crenshaw Blvd. and not the PO box that the payments are supposed to be mailed to. So I called the actual branch in California and was advised that once they receive the check from my bank, they'll process the payment even though they should have already received it seeing that it's been 2 weeks since my bank mailed the check out to them. I gave it a few more days... the payment still had not been posted to the account. I called my bank to have the payment stopped. I had to provide my bank with the PO box address for payment to One United and I made a smaller payment as a test to see if it would process and it did just fine. So then I decided to make a $200.00 payment and process it since I now have the correct payment address and they still have not received it and it has been 10 days. Long story short- I'm taking my business back to the white bank. Lol. But on a serious note, they really need to get things together because of our potential economic power. I am extremely unhappy with this bank. Much like the other reviews I read I was trying to support a black owned business but WE need to do better. I reported one of my debit cards lost and the young man I spoke to was efficient in canceling the lost card; the only thing is he cancelled the WRONG card! He cancelled the debit card that I still had and he somehow managed to cancel my Unity credit card as well! How in the world that happened is beyond me because to my understanding that is a completely different entity. As of today I have been waiting on a replacement for both checking and credit account for literally 4 weeks. This has been a huge inconvenience for me not to mention when I called in once I discovered the issues no one apologized to me or tried to put a rush on it. Lastly, what has made me make the decision to CLOSE THIS ACCOUNT once I can access my money is that I was told there were no fees if I had direct deposit. Well, I just found out I've been hit with a $12 fee every month since the start of my account a year ago and not only do Have direct deposit; I have it for 2 checks and don't ever deposit a check there is a week long hold, even after the funds have been secured by the other institution. I wouldn't recommend anyone to bank with them! I opened 2 accounts with them, I also have the unity visa credit card. I wanted to support a black owned black but unfortunately I have to take my business elsewhere. My biggest issue is the lack of communication with the bank and their webistie. They don't communicate well and expect you to find all the answers to your questions on the FAQ page! The website lacks basic information that we should know as consumers and if you call you are on hold for way too long or if you submit a question online for them to call you it takes weeks!!! After having my secured card for a year I made the decision to increase the limit. After reviewing the site several times I was unable to locate the process; I called the customer service line and was advised I had to go online and apply for an increase; after advising I did and did not locate any process they told me to apply as if I was a first time applicant. This process seemed odd and I voiced my concern. The customer service rep assured me that everything would be fine. I went online followed the steps and after submitting required documents received an email advising I would receive my new card soon. I called customer service immediately to determine why I would be getting another card and the customer service rep explained the process requires a new card to be issued and once I activate the card my old one would be cancelled and my new limit would be activated. A week later I receive an update from Experian, Equifax, & Transunion advising that I have a new credit card for the increase that I requested. I called the customer service line back and requested to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor was of no help and mentioned would send this over to some support department for review. While I understand every company has things they can work on, this whole ordeal has been a nightmare. No only does it now reflect an additional inquiry on my credit, it also reflects that I opened a new line of credit which has a negative impact on my credit vs an increase in credit would have. I have been working hard over the last year to get my credit score to a good place as I have plans to purchase a home in the next year and am sadden at how big of a mistake this was. Considering I voiced concerns about the process several times. I was advised someone would call me within 48 hours and if I don't get a call by end of day Monday my next step will be to file a complaint with the Department of Financial Services. As a victim of bank misrepresentation like Wells Fargo I believe One United bank needs to review the transparency of the process when pulling credit as I'm sure if this happened to me, it has happened to a few others. Remember it only takes 20 complaints of mishandling of consumers accounts for it to become a class action law suit and a possible probe into bank practices. Please fix this! read more

This bank says they support you as a customer, but that's not true. They will not get your funds back if the other party is against you. I banked with them from the 80's till 2017. Nothing like they used to be. Charges you and you won't know about it. It takes you days to get back to you. You just better off banking elsewhere. They will take your available credit for unbeknownst reasons, and hold on to payments for WEEKS ON END before releasing it to your credit. There are better options such as Green Dot Secured Credit which I will be going back to once I pay this card to $0 and close this account. I was trying to support the business..The application process was very inconvenient. I paid the $100 minimum amount to open an account. No one knew where the $100 went but my card was charged. At this point it's been 2 weeks since I submitted my application.I called to inquire about the status. They couldn't find me by my social..but how? Finally after being transferred several times someone was able to help. They said the verification process was taking a bit longer than expected. I was ok with that. Another week goes by. No word from the Bank. I call again. I was told I had to verify my identity by sending a pic of my photo ID and a utility bill. I complied. About 3 days later I received a welcome email. A week later my car came in the mail. They send the pin separate from the card! Where on earth do they practice this! How inconvenient! So I need to get gas for the rest of the week. I am truly disturbed by the level of service i have received at this institution. It all began with a hardship withdrawal I had to make from my retirement account. I asked for a deposit form from one united so the money could be direct deposited because it was for 8000 and i live out of state. I didn't want to deal with protracted hold times due to the payment being needed for an emergency medical procedure. The form they sent was blurry and looked as if i had been printed from a printer. The retirement company had to send a check because of the suspicious nature of the form. I had no choice but to deposit it into a 3rd party ATM and have it held for 5 business days. Transamerica certified that the check had been cashed on the 17th of September but because i called repeatedly to complain, my hold was extended from 5 to 7 days about an hour ago when they finally sent the hold notice required by law. This happened right after i got off the phone. Mind you today is Wednesday and i'm just now getting it. This account is 6 months old and has over 6,000 a month in direct deposits on average. I am clearly being retaliated against and have asked to speak to management ho cant be bothered to answer the phone or return my calls or emails. My wife is sick and suffering and im not blaming one united for that. I am blaming them for a blatant disregard for their own rules and for their horrible customer support. I feel mistreated and undervalued as a customer and as a veteran of these united states. Just like others, i wanted to support my people in business. However, this is by far the worse bank I've dealt with. It's been 3wks since I opened my online account, and deposited $50. Still I have no debit card, but l got over 6 welcome letters in the mailbox. I decided to apply for their Unity credit card with a secure amount of $300. I was approved and had 15 days to fund the credit. Without my acknowledgement, One United bank charged my debit card $300, being that i didn't have the funds to cover the cost, they charged a fee of -$35.00 for a insufficient charged (that they did). Now I have only $15. Then.... I try to popmoney my funds to another card. $10 charge for next day transfer, free for 5 days. Now I'm at $5.00. Some weird fee charged me $3.00 still I have no debit card, no pin number, and now no $50. You'll be better off getting a Rush Card. This has been the most horrible banking experience ever. First for starters I opened the account with 1000 only to lose money on some random policy change that just started taking money out for fees. I opened it just to support a Black Owned bank... then when I realized they had charged me hundreds of dollars in fees though it's online they have never had to process anything from the account I was letting it sit there. I don't live near the bank. So I of course wanted my account closed. They gave me portion of the fees yet still took almost $400.00 in fees that I was to just charge to the game. Now it has been months trying to close this account...the online system is ridiculous and when I call customer service they are nice yet unhelpful technically. This account still has not been closed. I keep trying to verify accounts to transfer money to which they can clearly see but yet won't let me transfer money out of due to some technicality. Now I'm being told to go disconnect the accounts (which I haven't figured out how to do yet) and reconnect, then transfer or they can send me a check to the address on my ID versus where I want it sent. I will NEVER bank here nor will I tell anyone to do so and all of the people who promote this bank have lost credibility. I have been banking for over 20 years with my two other banks and I have NEVER had unresolved issues of this magnitude. It should not be this hard to get access to YOUR MONEY. read more

I am thoroughly impressed by this small, minority owned bank. The beautiful sound of people of color supporting an entity that is for them and by them is awesome. Look, this isn't one of the major financial institutions like Wells Fargo, whose only interaction with communities of color was predatory lending. This is a small and growing business. Yes, there was a small wait. They're growing to keep up with Bank Black/ Bank Brown movement. But the people there were wonderful and friendly. People in line communicated with one another about the beautiful things going on in their lives. I cannot complain. I can only support. Continue growing. I am one of those people that opened a bank with One United because they were a black owned bank, and I realized that is probably one of the most foolish reasons ever. This month I was charged $57 worth of bank fees, $20 maintenance fee and a $37 overdraft fee that conveniently applied the day I made my loan payment. I also saw a $2 statement charge on my account that was reversed 2 days later. I also had an electronic bill payment stuck in my account (bank purgatory) for 1.5 weeks. My gut feeling is that One United plays funny with people's accounts since banks do make their yield on overdrafts fees. If I had a payment go out not knowing of the $2 statement credit, I would be paying another $37 because of $2. Needless to say, I closed my account yesterday. I thought about fighting to get my money back but at the end of the day this banking relationship isn't worth saving (ha!). I have decided to just work with my big bank, Bank of America. read more

It can back denied saying I was already in their system as having a credit card that I never paid on. That is so not true. When I called to try and straighten it out, the woman I spoke with was very rude and told me that they do not deal with people that don't pay their bills. I told them since they had to run my credit report, they should have noticed the fraud alert on my report. They told me that made NO DIFFERENCE. Doing the online application was fast for me atleast.I did get my card &pin at the same time in about 7 or 8 days. When I had called a rep it was less than 3 mins sometimes even a minute or less.They are nice people however there banking experience like mobile CHECK DEPOSITS IS HORRIBLE.YES IT MAY TAKE LESS THAN 2 MINS TO DO N UPLOAD BUT FUNDS ON NEW ACCOUNTS AREN'T AVALIBLE UNTIL 9 BUSINESS DAYS.THIS IS TERRIBLE.WITH WELLS FARGO,BANK OF AMERICA,BBT N SUNTRUST THE FIRST $200 IS AVALIBLE IMMEDIATELY BEFORE 9PM.And to fund my account I had errors with my previous bank not being able to validate one united bank.(which were electronic drafting from account).If they get the mobile DEPOSITS together maybe I'll stay BUT otherwise I can't say how long I can support this bank This is very inconvenient for me and tons of new commers too.If u can't offer new clients same service or better than their previous financial institution than in my opinion I'm sure most would agree it's not worth the headache to switch.They can just stay where their at. read more
